Hey mates, so a lot of you were asking for some reference pictures for this tank. Like I said, they are all copyrighted and I can't put them in my videos. However here's a link to one of them: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/75/Chi-Ri.JPG They're easy to google but I'll most likely start putting links to reference pictures in the video description.
Your not good at air brushing? This is bad? Holy shit that means that people good with air brushes make perfect models! I’m just kidding, your great at it, now that might not mean much coming from a guy who hasn’t touched a tank model yet but I personally thing your doing just fine
Geeze... I have trouble enough with the English language, I'm impressed you get as far as you do. LOL. Another interesting and entertaining video. Thanks, Martin!
Best channel on TH-cam right now for models! Everyone else is getting old because they don’t do p.e sets or anything else just out of the box kits and that’s fine but this page is gold! Keep them coming!!!!!
I love your presentation style mate, I've used Tipex (typing correction paper) in the past to create chalk markings, tape the Tipex to the model and then scribble away on it and the scribble is transferred to the models surface. I used it to mark the different calibre of shell hits on a Panther tank used by the US for ballistic testing in late 1944 and for writing cyrillic on a KV1. Really fine pencil thin lines are possible and actually look like they've been chalked on. It went really well and just needing sealing in afterwards. I don't have any pictures of them because this happened bloody years ago. Keep up the great work, your content is fantastic! Happy modelling!
I watched the previous video about 4 times waiting for this one, thanks for uploading! Edit: I’ve always wanted to see this tank in its original colors, so yeah, I’m gonna watch this whole series with hype.
As a stencil artist, let me tell you, the terminology was correct. There is overspray, underspray and bleeding - all nasty things that need to be avoided. You did a fine job there. Ghetto tip: if you don't have adhesive stencils you might give the backside of your stencil a coat of spray adhesive and let it dry until it is tacky - good to avoid underspray. I really enjoy your humor and great work, keep it up.
Good job on the stencils, I haven't tried those yet, you make it look easy. Your model of this particular tank makes for a very interesting subject. Your skill level in these techniques is amazing and I enjoy watching you demonstrating them! Take care and thank you.
@@Jagdpanzer-bh4pb After seeing Adam Wilder finishing his today, I don't think there's anything else that could be done with that subject :) But I guess I'll build it one day.
Another entertaining video Martin. I have been trying out your armour texture, flame cut and weld seam techniques for the first time this week, I still need practice but it has improved the look of my model 100%. Thank you for your tips, Heath.
Just love your style Martin, great instructional content, down to earth and dumbed down just the right amount to make me feel, well, not so dumb lol. Great skills and great technique, thank you!
I just bought some Mr metal colour 'buffable' paints, the Dark Iron was'nt great, but if you don't shake bottle it goes down like a pin wash.A dark opaque charcoal colour. And when you 'buff it', because its not well shaken theres less graphite, and only very high points shine.Great video.Cheers mate.
Dude, is this your real voice? If so you have the coolest accent, I'm not an armor maker but I've been watching all your videos. Keep up the good work.
Hello, what grit of sanding paper/sponge did you used for removal of any imperfection on the model’s surface like dust particles etc after priming? Many thx ☺️
Another beautiful and hilarious video. You're quickly becoming my favorite TH-cam modeler =D. I really like the distressing. Its subtle, but very realistic... I hope it doesn't completely disappear under weathering =p

Great video - always watch these as soon as they come out fresh. Question: Doing a three part German camo - using distressing technique - would you distress all the camo colours or just base yellow? Or do an O.P.R (oil paint rendering) for the camo colours? Thanks.
Thank you! Yes I'd try to distress all of them, if, of course, the camo pattern isn't too tight or overly complicated. But it's best to practice this technique on a single colored tank
I'm with you on that 1 Giza I honestly don't abide to any air pressure or viscosity to paint because some paints are a law to their own you know when it feels right it's a bit like foreplay. also I make my own stencils on a plotter I highly recommend you use masking tape over the stencil easy to remove but also keeps stuff in place when you need to
Great videos. If you were painting that tyical IJA three done camo when you go to putting oil paints over the colours would you use different oils for each colour or just use the same mix of oils for the whole tank? And generally what's the trick to selecting the right oil colours for your base coat?
Thanks! I would choose colours that would work with each camouflage paint and blend them over the entire model. Then, if necessary, I would pick specific oils for each camo pattern and add some highlights, shadows, or just some extra discoloration here and there. Picking the right colours is mostly about finding ones that have something to do with the base paint. Example: for a dark yellow model, white, yellow, brown... On the other hand, adding red to a dark grey model wouldn't work. I'll be blending oils on this model in the next video.
Hi, I like your style very much, I had a great time Reading of your build like js7, the maus, the m6, the bmp3 and all the others, can I ask you how DID you thin tamiya Paint in this video? Is It lacquer or acrylic thinner? Do you use any retarder?
i've got a question, i' using regular vallejo paint for airbrush and no matter how thin the paint is (even if its almost just dirty water im spraying) , the paint gets dry at the tip of my airbrush after few minutes . How do I avoid it? Should I switch to vallejo air which is marketed as airbrush paint?
You know, for transferring those stencils, there is a product designed specifically for that. It's called, ironically, "transfer tape", it's designed specifically for transferring vinyl decals and stencils, it has very low tack, and is pretty inexpensive. Should be available at most craft stores, and of course, online.
Hi Martin can I ask how you pic a subject. I.e. do you see a picture then find the model or does the model come first. What is your thought process 🤔. Maybe a future video idea wink wink 😉
Good idea! :) When I see a model that looks interesting, I go on the interwebs to find some good photos. If there are some that show the subject damaged, chipped or just overall dirty, I start thinking about buying it. If not, it's a pass. If there's no weathering potential there, it doesn't really interest me. Or it can go the opposite way. I may stumble across an interesting photo and if it's something really cool, I might go ahead and buy a model and build it like in the photo.
again a very beautiful video, I love it :D Here is an idea that came in my mind while watching your video: you could show your reference fotos while you paint your model so we can get an iedea of what you are talking about^^
Another way I've seen that distressing done is by spraying the model with a coat of water, then covering it with medium-large grain rock salt, spraying a very thin layer of black or white just to tint the paint, then washing the salt off.

What you usually hear is to mix paint to the consistency of 2% milk and to spray @ 20 - 25 PSI.
That depends on your airbrush. Just listen to it: if it splutters, your mixture or the air pressure isn't right. I can't remember when last I checked what the air pressure on my compressor is; I just adjust the mixture as I go along.
