  • Although I’m a long-time EV owner, until recently there’s one thing I would have never thought to check if I was buying a used EV.

Great advice. Tesla Model 3/Y on-vehicle chargers have 2 or 3 circuits, each capable of 16 A. Base RWD models have two, for 32 A max charging. Long range and Performance models have three, for 48 A max charging. These circuits are known to fail, reducing the max charge rate. If owners charge below max rate at home, they likely don't even know anything is wrong.

Unfortunately that's what happened to my friend. The dealership L1 charged the bike and assumed all was well. This video is also a lesson for dealerships that sell EVs. All dealers should have or have access to L2 and L3 charging equipment to test their vehicles before selling them. It's so basic that it never occurred to me it would be a problem but yet your comment and my friend's experience proves that it is.

I found my ex-demo Energica Experia DC charged at 40W (even above 80%) but only at 3W on AC charging. That is how it is designed.

It sounds like your Experia is performing exactly as expected. It's an awesome bike by the way. Here's a road test I got to do of one of the first Experia's to be imported to the U.S. from a while back: th-cam.com/video/zzlQvTEas40/w-d-xo.html
