For me, the best version of The Thrill is Gone which you can find and listen to (I say that because who knows, maybe BB performed it better than any recorded version of it at one or even several concerts which were not recorded) is the version on my favorite BB King album, "80", which he recorded when he was 80 years old and almost every song on that epic album is BB teaming up with one iconic music legend after another (e.g. "Early in the Morning featuring Van Morrison, "Rock This House" with Elton John, "The Thrill is Gone" with Eric Clapton of course, etc.)!
There is no finer example of guitar talking you will ever see recorded live like these two do at the end of the song. No matter how many time I listen to it I am left in complete awe of perfection these two men have brought to the music they love and live for.
B.B King, Clapton and Phil Collins! My God this is rare and few are for ... These guys are amazing and extraordinary! Yes, of course. It's the best version of "The Thrill Is Gone" done today, Clapton and King of the Blues humiliate anyone on the guitar. And guys, that perfect solo! What a beautiful thing! jazzandblues1, heartfelt thanks for their rarity. I'm only 23 years and I am fascinated by music from the 70's. It's painful for me to know that many teens do not know what is really good!.
footnote: That coda jam between BB & Eric was incredible!!!! Not only were they great, but BB's unselfishness and Eric's understated playing showed how much respect they have for each other. That's what makes a great song & a great band even better - when they both respect and enjoy each other. The music really elevates to another level and the magic is felt everywhere. Again, GREAT post!
That was great! You can see Eric and BB are having a great time, All the smiles. I've gone to see BB several times. My favorite, is at a place here in Michigan that is outside. Nothing better than sitting outside in the grass on a warm summer night listening to BB.
You know it is quality, when it is better the second, third, e.t.c. time. I loved BB 20 years ago, he just gets better every day. Eric is one of those who will carrie the torch once BB is gone.
' makes me sad to think about the fact that people dont listen to this amazing music anymore... i eman, im only 15 and my friends turn on lady gaga when i turn on eric clapton or AC/DC. those good old days must've been amazing. thank God i was raised well
I'm only 25 years old and I've been lucky enough too see B.B.King in concert and Eric Clapton on a few occasions. These two are true legends! An this video truly shows their genius. Never will this be again, long live the blues, Clapton and R.I.P the king of the blues B.B.King. Clapton is God!
Music is common ground for all people regardless of race, creed or color. Hate and racist statements have no place in this world today. Grow up people, its a new world.
Does anyone else get like ridiculously happy watching this? You just know you're staring at true masters in their class - musicians that truly enjoy what they're doing.
If I could play like Clapton and sing like BB King I would be able to quit my day job! LOL! WOW!!!! One heck of a band too with Phil Collins & Paul Butterfield sitting in. A musician's wet-dream to have a band like this. Add the BS&T or Tower of Power horns and I'd be in heaven! Thanks for posting this! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, safe & prosperous 2011 (even the 65 people who just didn't "get" what they were watching!) Rock on!!!!
I never tire of hearing this song. ....The thrill is gone.....the thrill is gone away for good. I'm free from your spell and all I can do is wish you well. Ain't it the truth!
The birth of most music genres. Truly the ART of MUSIC, before Hollywood and Detroit took over dictating the crap of today. Though there is some Rap I love, there is more ol' blues rattling around this ol' head. Thank you BB. Thank you Eric C.
hey dont be sorry...we can always turn on you tube and listen to it! And don't worry these guy's heritage will live on long after we are gone. at that time many others will be long forgotten.
Same Thing happens to me my dear friend...People on our days dont respect even the real music...They have the right to hear what they want to hear but dont turn down everything else...
jazzandblues1 great up.tyvm..shame most of the young generation has no idea or appreciation of this melody/talent...this dont get any better,,,opaaa from a greek canadian..btw when i heard this...i thought i died and woke up in heaven...
Paul Butterfield's harp is so emotional. Same as Eric Clapton's blues guitar. I saw this performance over 20 years ago. So it is great to see this again. Thanks for uploading.
Ive seen BB 3 times with Buddy Guy... I consider it an honor to have seen these two people play. I only wish i was old enough to see the other 2 "kings" play. (Albert and Freddie) Good music is out there.... You just gotta start by turning off your radio.
B.B. King… You were not only a music icon, but an inspiration to EVERYONE of us!... You may have left this world, but your music will live in our HEART'S forever! Because of you BB … "The Thrill will Never be Gone"… ♡
can you imagine what Clapton was thinking/feeling. to perform with who is, with no doubt, one of his biggest influences. BB king essentially handed the torch down. what a great song.
Back in the early 80's, we'd drive from the north shore of Tahoe over to the south shore and go and see BB play the lounge show for five bucks. A room that could seat no more than maybe 75 to 100 people. And you'd get two cocktails included. We'd watch BB for an hour long show. Drink our drinks, play a couple rolls of craps and smoke a joint on the 25 mile ride back to the north shore and wake up the next morning atop Squaw Valley, skiis pointed down and thinking of the dream that life is.
Yep, the thrill is gone because they just gave it all to me! WOW!!! three masters of music in one show and B.B. and Clapton at the end was well beyond amazing!!! Thanks for posting this vid!.
with BB king you can honestly say you saw a unique show, as every time he plays the "Thrill is gone" it's never the same, he might add in a note there, a pause, he plays it how he feels, diffrent speeds. It's not just a repetition from memory but really playing with soul and feel. I really wish I had the money to go see him in the states. He's such an influence on me
This is the best version I've heard!! Needed that Clapton guitar!!

How anyone can give this a thumbs down is beyond me... Blues is the pathway to some of the greatest music we have.
There is no finer example of guitar talking you will ever see recorded live like these two do at the end of the song. No matter how many time I listen to it I am left in complete awe of perfection these two men have brought to the music they love and live for.
Just as I thought BB King and Eric Clapton couldn't get better, he said PHIL COLLINS! This is one of the best stages in history!
B.B King, Clapton and Phil Collins! My God this is rare and few are for ... These guys are amazing and extraordinary! Yes, of course. B.B. died yesterday. Long live Lucille and her master. He sure loved the blues as is so evident here.
this is one of the most amazing performances i've ever seen. clapton and king together- !!!!
B.B. Has left us.Now the thrill truly is gone. A much belated R.I.P. to the KING.

Nah man it's like Kid this is how you Blues. XD
B.B. King's voice could cure cancer, if only its immense power could somehow be harnessed.
Amazing to see these two guitar wizards soloing together.
These guys are Aliens Great Musicians! Hi to all of them from Argentina!
De acuerdo contigo, la pura vieja escuela del buen blues, eso sí que es música.
Gary Moore needs mentioning here. They did an amazing rendition together. One of the greatest guitarists EVER
That was great!
You can see Eric and BB are having a great time, All the smiles.

I never get tired of listing this amazing piece of art!
The interplay at the end is magical. The tone difference between the strat and Gibson just makes it that much more special.
The best of the best!!!!! Thanks for sharing!

BB King, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins on the same stage....'nuff said :-)
Music is common ground for all people regardless of race, creed or color. Hate and racist statements have no place in this world today. Grow up people, its a new world.
Brilliant, saw Clapton in the 1960's with Cream, and saw BB in UK in the 90's, stunning xx
This world won't be worth living in when these two great men have gone away...
Good by and God bless, Seen him live in Wabash, in, Truly a gifted man, & His music will be in my heart till I pass.
The Thrill is NOT GONE! This is it. OUTSTANDING!! BRAVO

My dear. The "Guitar-Conversation" B.B. and Eric have is pretty darn epic.

BB King is a real gentlemen and should be a role model for anyone who ever picks up a guitar!
They both sure had it on that night !
Does anyone else get like ridiculously happy watching this? You just know you're staring at true masters in their class - musicians that truly enjoy what they're doing.
best version!!
Even though I am by myself in an empty room. I just HAD to clap at the end of that. Truly magnificent.
Me encanta. King of the blues
BB King really mellowed out through out the years with his music.
But regardless, he probably is the King of Blues.
They were just having fun in the last two minutes.
If I could play like Clapton and sing like BB King I would be able to quit my day job! LOL! WOW!!!! One heck of a band too with Phil Collins & Paul Butterfield sitting in. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BB KING
I don't know how I missed this in my 45 years of being on earth but I sure did. This is freaking amazing
clapton must have been like "OH MY GOD IM PLAYING WITH BB KING, DAMN IM GOOD"
Nah. He had already long been playing along side him by this point
@@ClaptonFan91 since 1967
No, he had been playing with him since the cream days
That beginjng by EC solo 👌
Absolutely no better duo than these two on guitar, along with Phil Collins on the drums! The blues at its absolute best!
RIP BB, and phil collins'hair
I never tire of hearing this song. ....The thrill is gone.....the thrill is gone away for good.
I'm free from your spell and all I can do is wish you well.
Ain't it the truth!
this is blissssssss
The two gods of the blues together, like you said, soothes the soul. I wish more of the pop-crap loving teens would listen to them instead.
Phil: "The hair is gone, the hair is gone away from me!"
I am sure Phil cares nothing at all about his hair
The "duel" between B.B.King and Eric Clapton during the last part of the song is enough to say: They are true guitar Gods !

"I'm free from your smell"
Those who got to see these 3 play together live are a lucky bunch for sure!
there's more talent on that stage right there than damn near all the bullshit "artists" that are out there now.
hey dont be sorry...we can always turn on you tube and listen to it! And don't worry these guy's heritage will live on long after we are gone. at that time many others will be long forgotten.
This would be perfect if Phil Collins didn't annoy me so much
Diarmaid Finnerty Then it IS perfect
Three legends, one song, fucking amazing.
Same Thing happens to me my dear friend...People on our days dont respect even the real music...They have the right to hear what they want to hear but dont turn down everything else...
The last 2 mintues where King and Clapton are bouncing off each other and exchanging riffs made me smile.
jazzandblues1 great up.tyvm..shame most of the young generation has no idea or appreciation of this melody/talent...this dont get any better,,,opaaa from a greek canadian..btw when i heard this...i thought i died and woke up in heaven...

All people who dislike this piece of art and history should´t do that. You don t have to like it. Just leave it as it is and show some respect.
Oh my that call and response solo is magnificient.
three gods on stage :o what I would do to be born back when music was bearable and true legends were young
can you imagine what Clapton was thinking/feeling. to perform with who is, with no doubt, one of his biggest influences. BB king essentially handed the torch down. what a great song.

A form of music which within all the spirits of music is BLUES.

The "conversation" between the two guitars in the second half is stunning.
You should hear the conversation between him and garymore in live 1993 you will love it
