Went to NOLA one weekend, on my own, and just wasn't by the HOB just to see who was appearing.....yep, you guessed it! Met a sweet/fun couple who invited me to hang out with them ON THE VERY FRONT ROW. Without a doubt, one of the best nights of my LIFE! RIP Mr. King and may God richly bless that sweet couple and NEW ORLEANS!

He was amazing when he was younger. I wasn’t fortunate enough to catch him then.I saw him when he was older.
There’s a clip that’s never going to see the light of day. Around 1963 maybe.
He was playing in a more informal concert & in the line up backing him was a young Jimmy Hendrix. last guy on the right.
He introduced them all very politely & then said
“Oh yeh & that’s just Jimmy Hendrix” (Not his brightest moment)
Hendrix let loose & BB did not play one more note after that.
    That concert ended early.
He denied the whole thing. But the clips out there someplace.
I saw it about 20 yrs ago.

I grew up in New York followed BB around late 80s 90s and was lucky enough to see him at the Blue Note very intimate about a hundred fifty people and he allowed several groups to visit with him after and my friend and I sat with him for 10 minutes. I feel my life has been touched just to be able to do that and I will have the I told him I loved him that he made me a better musician and gave me countless hours of joy. And continues to to this second and always will of course :-)

@@josbruls Hi, yes I did! I went for a Maybach capitol 59 cherry, I custom ordered it with a side mount jack. I had tried a Freddie King model that had fretnibs and a stereo varitone plus a slim neck. I took a chance on the Maybach because of no fretnibs and custom option, which would have been way too expensive with Gibson. The Maybach was delayed 5 times, so I went for an off the shelf model from Thomann. The Capitol has BIG neck, almost 44mm. wide, medium to vintage frets, I would have liked them bigger. I think the BB model also has a big neck if I remember correctly. So getting used to the neck takes a little time. But the tone is there, big bright with good sustain. Maybach cut corners on pots, pickguard and tuners, but the rest is fine, and is has a nice light relic job. So I will play this guitar some more and eventually make a TH-cam video on it ;-)

4:00 he is playing sort of an interlude of the song Darling I Love You. It's quite recognizable. If you search BB King on the Ralph Gleason show, there is a beautiful full version of the song. In my mind some of the most beautiful guitar playing I've ever heard, and the song is amazing.

@@jamesjohnson1522 I think there are also bits of "Easy Listening Blues" in there. Same on the Live in Japan version.
Also the piece at 28:34 is already "Guess Who", he's done it like this on a few other live recordings I have.

This is the King BB KING at the top of his game. Lucky me this is near the time I discovered THE MAN. Blues/rock is one thing and I love it but this is a masterful bluesman at work. Sure do miss him one of my most prized processions is my BB KING anthology cd set.

I love how they play "To know you is to love you" during this show. The beat is much more aggressive than in the original

There was a lot of jazz in his playing at this time... Earlier and later he was playing mostly straight blues. MK

I’ve noticed that too. Nice jazzy blues in the instrumental here. As he got older, his playing became much simpler.

BB King was heavily influenced by Charlie Christian & Django Reinhardt. Listen to "Live At The Regal" recorded in the early 60's there's a lot of jazzy diminished runs played on Lucille that night.
