From one impatient tea girl to another: there are kettles with different temperature settings! Then you can always get the perfect temperature for your tea. I love mine :D

I also have one, and I'll never go back 🙈 BUT I have a tip for brewing green tea without this feature to those who don't have one! Just pour water into the cup first, wait a beat and put in the bag after. That way the temperature goes a bit down before brewing! OR just reduce the brewing time to 1 min or less.

Speaking of time-travel-related novels, a book that I'm currently reading and recommend is The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. Though I haven't finished yet, there's a very interesting mixture of speculative, romance, and historical fiction genres. Plus it has some of my favorite elements like a deadpan morally-grey protagonist, arguably somewhat cosy vibes at times (?), humour (+ some more serious themes), found family, and some yearning. Don't go in expecting the focus to fully be on the romance, though!

in a similar vein to psalm for the wild, I recently read "what you're looking for is in the library", which is a book where each chapter is about different people in Japan just dealing with their everyday lives... and I haven't read psalm for the wild but the way you talked about it, it reminded me a bit of that book. It is also short and it is less about big philosophical concepts but more about our attitudes towards our lives and what they should be. It is really inspiring and kind of soothing. I really love e.g. its exploration of self-care and that the view that managing to take care of yourself is an achievement we can be proud of.
Also, I can really recommend the audiobook for it, as different narrators are used for the characters' perspectives.

Love the novella reads, I appreciate how short books are usually well-structured in order to concisely get their points across :)
re:anti-intellectualism, like you said, there is merit to academic jargon as well as pretension. I think it's also important to acknowledge that not all works are written for the same audience. An expert writing to share something with their similarly expert peers to encourage more research is going to use more complex concepts and terminology bc they're trying to address complicated questions and all of their nuances, and there's a foundation of understanding that the intended audience already has. Likewise, someone writing something for a general public that did not spend years studying in academia should not present the same complex topics in a way that assumes readers already know all of the knowledge they do

    • @katierasburn9571

I read The Tao of Pooh this year too! Couldn't get behind his argumentative attack on so many groups of people, but did love some of advice, like:
    - A tree considered useless for lumber still has value in providing shade and shelter. It is only useless to you because you will not use it in it's proper way.
    - Brain can be fooled, but inner nature cannot. Ignoring your inner nature leads to little understanding or respect for yourself which means you can be easily influenced away from what is best for you.
    - Don't be a "Busy Back-soon" who wastes his time trying to save time, who devotes his life to working to afford devices to save time.

I really think you should check out Becky Chambers’ other books. I read her other novella ‘To be taught if fortunate’ and the hopeful philosophical sci-fi vibes are fantastic.

Yes, many positive reviews of Time War. Intend to read it along with Ministry of Time before year end. btw: 11/22/63 is time travel but without the sci-fi and with a truly great love story.

You need to read the Singing Hill cycle by Nghi Vo! A series of novellas following a cleric who travels around collecting stories! Has a very similar vibe to the Monk and Robot books with a bit more of a focus on storytelling as a theme! You can read them out of order and I recommend starting with When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain!

Came here to comment this! Just read ‘When the lion came down the mountain’ and it was even better than the first one! Def same vibe as Monk/Robot, it even follows a Cleric, and in my opinion, MUCH better! Beautiful language and philosophical themes. (Not sci-if though, but fantasy).

I love your videos ! So chill and so many good books ^^
I like how you talk about books and even so many of those I won't read (my TBR too big already) it's so interesting to listen !
Just as a side note, I noticed the video has some flashing issues (maybe it's the frame rate of the camera causing it ? or it's TH-cam compression), I first thought it was my screen but no. I don't have epilepsy but that can be troublesome, idk if you noticed? 🙇‍♀

I also love Bunny and Rouge, and I've said this to you on IG, but don't skip All's Well! It has all the weirdness that Mona is capable of, mixed with a healthy dose of Shakespeare and chronic pain.
And yes, I also thought that I should have a skin care routine while reading Rouge!! So culty!

I don't know if anyone has recommended the book further down in the commens but "The Long Way to Small Angry Planet" also by Becky Chambers has def similar vibes to A Psalm for the Wild-Built, although with higher stakes
