- What are the misses on the Innova HyCross? Here are three things you should keep in mind:
First, it’s pricey. For 30 lakhs, one might expect more luxurious interiors with a higher quality of materials. What's even more surprising is the super pricey waiting period for this model. So much so, they have stopped taking bookings for the top end ZX variant according to Toyota’s website.
Second, non-hybrid powertrain options are not available in the top trims, which means non-hybrid car buyers will be restricted to the GX variant. For buyers with an annual car mileage of less than 10k, opting for a strong hybrid may not make sense from a pricing perspective.
Third, comfort complication with the hybrid. There’s an issue with the hybrid due to the placement of the hybrid battery under the front seats, which means middle seat passengers may not be able to keep their legs in a natural (resting) position.

We bought hycross zx on last year today (7/7/2023). Driven 7600 km. Till now no scratch and dent. Driving stability is superb. Travel is very comfort. Below 70 km speed travelling like smooth boat. I tried speed maximum 170 kmph. Durability good. I'm driving 100 to 120 kmph only on the highways. Mileage 19 gives on the highways. Heavy traffic in the city mileage 14 to 18 kmpl depending the battery charging...
Worth to buy it.

Got my Hycross ZX(O) after 1 year waiting. The comfort is next level. Travelled for 500 km and then went to office in the afternoon.

1.Its pricey but keep it for 10 years and it will sell for 15lakh
2.Hybrid drivetrain costs more, maybe toyota thought people wouldn’t buy an expensive drivetrain in the base model interior(maybe a petrol top spec should be on offer but then i guess they wouldn’t make as much money and it might make sense to buy the hybrid top spec instead of petrol cuz of fuel savings)

@@motorinc For sure, i think it brings a perfect balance. Reliable highway cruiser returning good fuel efficiency figures. And i think it is not bad too once you give the beans. But is there a chance we get to see a strong hybrid with a manual gearbox?
Electric Motors are never coupled to Manual Gear Box Transmission.
Further Hycross has eCVT and not a Torque Convertor. Even when Engine is on, the Engine drives electric motors which in turn drives eCVT transmission to turn the wheels
Of course. Diesel also has a much longer life. I’ve seen Innova’s doing 10L+ KM’s without breaking down.
A petrol hybrid will require multiple battery changes till that time and petrol engines are not known to last half as much as a diesel.
It's great!! Foot room is great for mid or for the driver.
The base or high end issue is pushing to choose the hybrid instead of the traditional gasoline. The HyCross is designed to be a part of the hybrid line up and the gasoline is there for people who cant transition to hybrid yet

Couldn't agree more especially with that of the variants combo - I don't need a Hybrid, but NAP isn't available in mid or higher variant 😢
Anything above 30-40L is dangerously close to Volvo/Mercedes range. Add some more and get those instead.

Bcoz if someone is buying a 30-40L car for space, then the entry level Mercedes/BMW/Volvo etc won’t match their choice…

The entry level cars from most luxury brands are not worth it. Take the bmw x1 for example, comes with a 3 cylinder engine making less power than a Verna which comes at less than half the price🫥
I thought finally one car that Toyota was worth it before launching! But after going through the spec and conf. It's messed up ! No manual option and the sunroof varient is around 30 lakhs !

What about Toyota's hybrid and petrol engines....are they reliable as diesel engines and are they good for long term 10yrs +

1. Ceo is continuously deviating Toyotas originality from making cars to only sell cars at FIXED margin of profit.
2. In India especially they didn't wanted to compete in hatch back or less that 4mtr length segment. Liva etios never got updated in time with feature. Platina over priced.
3. Some point all auto manufacturer outsource some part of business but Toyota india all together gave manufacturing to Suzuki which is core usp. Customer thought he is paying extra 1lakh for Toyota badging under pretext of quality.
Japanese mgmt is not interested in Indian mkt more as in several foreign mkts they enjoy monopoly

What if a person wants to get a bench seat in middle row for all of his family members but also wants all the features ( Sunroof / connected car tech / etc) from the top model.
In hybrid variant, there is warranty of 8 years on battery pack and it does not include any physical damage. New one as on date costs 12 lac to replace. I’m confused should i go for GX(O) or VX. Does paying extra for hybrid and then again paying 12 lac for replacing battery justified?
Hi Anirudh, the battery does not cost 12 lakh. It will be much cheaper. Hybrids make sense for long term and high use cases.
@@motorinc One of the taxi guys driving Innova Hycross petrol told me it was 12 lac and that’s why most taxi guys don't buy a hybrid. I went to the showroom yesterday and confirmed it. They confirmed it’ll cost 12 lac if the battery needs to be replaced.
My decision to not go for the Innova because lack of bench seat in 2nd row in the Top spec ZX variant.

Bro u have made the best review !! The most important point is told . Like I don’t have a lot of running so I’m ok to buy a non hybrid model . But the non hybrid model is highly compromised on interior finish and tyres size is much smaller . So better interiors and bigger tyres are on zxo and upwards which is really out of budget !! Actually Toyota should rename itself as Maruti

Most of people doesnot buy car by seeing just a blant review. Mostly buying is based on necessity and budget. Hycross is being sold in a good number considering its cost. I dont think people are stupid.

When driven by battery, it is the rear wheels that are powered. So its as effective as Crysta for initial torque

Make it FWD but some how it is heavier. 2.0L Na for 1.7 tons not good enough, it need 2.8L diesel. Don't forget it have CVT. non hybrid 0-100kmh around 15 seconds.

Another point to consider is the size of the tires. They appear to be quite small and inadequate for an SUV of this size. Larger tires would enhance the overall appearance of the vehicle. These small tyres spoils the whole look of the car 🤢
True but remember that the Innova is supposed to be an MPV. So having larger tires may have affected its efficiency figures or utility.

For 8 seater car, Front wheel drive, no diesel option, low torque petrol motor with CVT automatic is a deal breaker. Crysta RULES.

Innova hycross is the cheapest car in toyota line that uses the m20a engine. The exact drive train out of many international toyota and lexus models. The rav4 , camry corolla & 2 entry level lexus models have the same engine option. It has proven to be reliable as with most toyota engines.(not all). There are videos in youtube where owners of corolla driven 400k miles (640k km) on the original drive train of a 2018 corolla that has the previous generation hybrid with the engine from this innova.
You have no ground to complain about their price & engine choice. Yes it would have been better with the 2.5l instead of 2l. But big petrol engine demands big fuel supply.

I saw your videos concerning positives and negatives of innova hycross. Positives outweighs the negatives. Here are my reasons to get one:
# A big car like hycross makes real sense in its hybrid avatar from the perspective of efficiency especially at this time of extrication of diesel cars looming around.
# Toyota's bullet proof reliability.
# The badge value it carries.
If we consider these points then cons like lack of premiumness at this huge price point, weird engine - variant combination and minor discomfort at the rear can be ignored and forgiven...
