I used to work for a company that made real Teak decking for boats around the world. The templates were made in a completely different fashion by ripping 1 1/2" wide strips of 1/8" paneling and using a Hot Glue gun. We cut and trimmed the strips to fit around the perimeter of the deck area to be covered, then glued them together to make a full size semi rigid pattern of the deck. Much easier to work with than flimsy plastic sheeting, although your material cost for the paneling was a bit higher.
Looks great. My 84 year old father has kept a 1968 Westerly Nomad for 42 years, I'm about to restore it to it's former glory. I have no idea what I'm doing so your tips are great! Cheers from England ☺
Looks great! A huge improvement. I have original laid teak decks in my Transworld 50 ft trawler built in 1989. I was going to lay a faux teak over them but after talking to various people and boat yards who advised me to sand and refinish my solid teak decks, I have decided to go that route. As expensive as teak is, it would be a shame to cover up the real deal if it is serviceable.
I wanted to get you feedback and review of the synthetic floor covering you used on your boat. How did it hold up in the cockpit area in the sun and weather, and how it has done in the cabin. Is there a noticeable fade in color or texture from one to another. Perhaps you could do a followup video and review now that its been a couple years of use. Thanks and look forward to hearing or seeing your take on this stuff.
Hello Jeff, the cockpit still looks like new. However, it does need to be scrubbed as it does get dirty from the dirt that gets stuck to your shoes from walking around the marina parking lot. The inside is easer to keep clean. Also on in the cockpit i have gotten paint on the floor and it can be sanded out to look like new. That is a good idea of doing a follow-up video on how it is holding up. thank you for watching
Looks great but on my old boat the teak floor was too slippery. The outside stuff looks really good but requires too much up keep. Life is too short to waste ones time every few months retreating the wood...
Thanks for watching. Here is the reply from PlasTeak :) Hi Domenic, Happy New Year to you also. We can ship the vinyl flooring to the UK just need an address to get pricing. Hello we're considering plasteak on our monohull. Just wondering if you'd consider doing a follow up on how it's held up? Are you happy with it? Things you don't like etc? Love you're channel. Thanks!!
Wow I just did a follow up th-cam.com/video/HH4baOEYyZI/w-d-xo.html on several products. it still looks great, it does get hot in the summer on the outside, the inside is easy to keep clean and still looks like the day i put it in. thanks for watching :)
This looks great! How thick is the plasTeak? Did you lose any significant headroom? I have a fiberglass sole but have two teak bilge covers. Did you run the plasTeak over yours? Thanks very much for the video and tips!
Are there drawbacks to gluing the floor down? What if the cabin floods a little? Will moisture eventually get underneath the floor and mold and get full of mildew. Will it start to smell?
It still looks like new, if I were just a better housekeeper. I use regular old soap and water on both. I get a lot of great comments on how good it looks.
@@VagabondEpicurean Oh, ok, thanks. It's a little difficult to get a feel for the thickness of the exterior product on the video. Nice work & video, sure improves the look of the inside and out once installed.
Well everything on a boat is coasty; however, if you do the work yourself it helps. For me the cost of material was around $1,400. It is basically maintains free, just clean it as any other floor. Here is the website www.plasteak.com/ to calculate how much material you will need. It still looks like the day I put it in.
Even the million dollar boats are being built with "faux" teak nowadays. You might not even know unless someone told you the floor your standing on is fake teak.
Just found a load of offcuts in a skip at the boatyard more than enough to sort my boat floor with looks amazing and free highly recomended
Wow, That really made the interior cozy and inviting. You did a great job explaining your technique.

You will an expert before you know it, :)
Great video. I been thinking about sailboat life again. I lived on a boat back in my early 20's. We didnt have the internet for info back then.
Nice! May have to try this on our new purchase...looking forward to making improvements on our newly purchased boat. Thanks

tks and it is still great,
what a great product. Thank you for sharing that. Now I know what to use.
Excellent job , thanks for the video skipper, even encluded a couple negative comments from the land dwellers we left behind
Great video. I’m definitely doing this! It looks great!
The interior teak & holly has a 10 year warranty and the exterior has a 5 year warranty but both will be around for 25+ years.
Thanks for that video. How’s it holding up after 5 years?
thanks for watching, still looks like new :)
Just found this channel, and I love it! Subscribed

u did a very nice job.well done.more waterproofing can only be good too

my thoughts too :)
great job!! And the comment at the end was very funny.
Some boaters use PlasTeak, some prefer PlasDeck... I only use PlasDick.
Do you know if plasTeak delivers to the uk because I have been looking online and every teak design looks awful but this one looks really nice thanks

it is only about 1/4" , i went right over the fiberglass, my bilge cover was wood so i went right over that as well,
yeeaaa it looks good

Still looks like new, very happy with it

tks, more to come this year
keep posting the vids
that was very informative.. thank you for posting :)
mike carey i have a couple more improvements coming up next month, low cost high impact, i hope :)
Looks great! My only question is, how slick is it with water on it? On a pontoon?
the ,PlasTeak inside is a little slick the PlasDeck in the cockpit is great, not slick but does get hot
Thanks for the come back, most don't. Good information thanks for that too.
Hi also a Chesapeake Bay guy, I was just wondering after almost a year, how is the plas deck and plas teak holding up?
It still looks like new, if I were just a better housekeeper. I use regular old soap and water on both. I get a lot of great comments on how good it looks.
That is great to know, thanks. It looks very nice in the video. Thanks again.
Thanks great vid
there is self adhesive stuff now FYI
What glue are you using ?
I bought the floor and now trying to get some adhesive for it locally and no one can seems to know 😔 Help lol
i got the glue through www.PlasTEAK.com
You should write a book.
So how has this stood up after 7 years?
great some spots are difficult to keep clean, like any other floor, near the stove and sink, that might me because I am a sloppy cook LOL
How does the PlasTeak feel underfoot both with shoes as well as barefooted, wet and dry?
Griot's Reverie good even wet it is not slippery, barefoot is comfortable
We have it on our Cheoy Lee and Love it. The anti skid is probably the best you can have and the product is cooler than natural teak on the bare feet
What specific product did you use for deck?
www.plasdeck.com/ they are a great company
literally Bill Murray's voice

good, very comfortable

bello
How heavy is it?
not sure of the weight, but it is VERY durable! After 4+ years still looks line new. I think they will send you samples.
Chicago area accent, right?
Well sort of, Kankakee, IL :)
Too bad you went all the way to the edges, it would look better to leave a white bleed around with round corners. Good job anyway.
Whay are all synthetic teak companies coping each other and making floppy soft plastic instead of copying teak which is stiff and hard wearing.
dont like it good work but dont like fake teak
I made it too very easy. just used woodprix plans and instructions.
Vinyl flooring on a boat. Really!
+Andrew C. Ballantine yes it has a special glue and it is holding up very well
I watch you running that straight edge and I cringe. 05:24 you almost cut your finger again.
+William White
That is why I say I should have use angel iron instead of a straight edge :)
+WaterfrontVacations1 In that situation, scissors.
it s not actually teak then...............
no, i think it is better, because of the low maintains
Sea-dek is a lot better product
i don't think so, but thaks for your input
the stuff people do to their boats....
tks for watching, it is a lot better than what i had and feels good to walk on, I like it
Why is my senial 70 yr old uncle doin a shill vid ?
So....linoleum for a boat? No thanks.
Well it works for me, I am very happy with it, it is holding up great! But not every product works for everyone.

Not really, I only do videos on products I use and believe in. I don’t get a commission on any of the products.
