I know this video is older, but I want to thank you! You're an artist! We have learned a lot here and now feel very capable to tackle our own teak renovations! Thanks
It's always a pleasure watching a master craftsman at work. Your creativity, intuition and ability to transfer from thought to process is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
The "HIGH POINT" of thiese instructional videos is at the end. The little sweetheart "Voice-Over". With nigh on a quarter million views, she mush have broken a quarter million hearts! already!
Nice job. I used to work for a company that made deck panels for yachts around the world. We had the deck patterns sent to us in wooden crates, we made the deck panels, then crated them up and shipped them back to the boat builders. Quite interesting work really.
+Best Racing Tips Win At The Dragstrip Tha'ts the way Teak Decking Systems operates as well. I have a good relationship with them and they were willing to send me some of their off cuts that were large enough for the project. Don't think that's something they normally do though....
Awesome Beautiful Work inspired by the Perfect use of your OCD Tendencies to achieve Perfection in your Procedure.. You Explain and Teach your Craft in an Exemplary Manner Andy.. Just AWESOME Pal .. Thanks
Very nice video and work done!!Trying to repair my boat i just purchased, second hand.Took whole boat apart and repairing everything from scartch, except the hull.Anyway nice job will try to make something nice like you do.
looks good ! The nibbing is usually off of a small template , the curve comes to half a batten and then they are connected from the half batten curve back to the caulk seam it creates a slight angle.
I appreciate the method of trimming the bungs. I have always sanded them and it takes forever. I was surprised to see that you can sand the caulk and then get the finish to adhere. Is that a non silicone based caulk?
Thirty two years ago when I was a teen, I worked in a boatyard. The jobs I detested the most....sanding off gel coat prior to anti fouling and caulking decks.....why? I always got covered in calking which you reminded me of...got in my hair once .....had to be cut out!
Great Video. Very informative. Can you elaborate on sealing the perimeter border to the deck? Curious about long term weather tightness at perimeter. Would it serve to use the same black sealant at the edge of the border to fiberglass location? Also how does thick pre-fab deck system lend itself to a contoured surface that isn’t so flat? Thank you.
All your videos are great. Tip when you are caulking a seam, instead of pulling the gun towards you try pushing away. I know this sounds counter intuitive. but i find I get a better fill and much less clean-up.
Does this add any rigidity to the floor? I have fiberglass deck with no core. Hoping to beef it up some to prevent sagging when stepped on? I saw you add a layer of fiberglass. Wondering if I should do that first or just go straight to this
Carl, Your videos are so well done. Thank-You and keep them up. I have a 34' Sailboat I'm having to pull the house off of and am trying to salvage the teak on top to reinstall after the new house is built, What do you think? Enjoy
Hi Larry, not sure if the supplier I used in the video (Teak Decking Systems) sells their panels retail or not. I'd try giving them a call. Otherwise I know that there are suppliers that will do this. If I remember correctly figure roughly $60/SF for the materials (ouch). It would be much less expensive to look at a teak and rubber plywood rather than using solid wood..
Great channel! I have a sailboat that has teak seats(it's the solid plywood teak that is glued in place) in the cockpit. It was not installed properly and is lifting in the corners. Do you have any recommendations for pulling the teak off and re-bedding it properly? What material would you use? Many thanks and keep on posting!!!!
I'm a bit confused. If you mounted the teak onto the backer board, how is it that we can't see the backer board on the edges? did you cut a dado in the edge teak to hide it something? great video!
Hi there. Is there a certain resin you used for securing the decking to the fiberglass? Also, do you need to stain after sanding? Great videos! I love them all! Your the man!
Wow that was very cool. I can see I'm going to have a lot more work from watching your show. Because I will be wanting to do this as well hahahaha. Stop giving me more work hahaha just kidding. Love it keep it up 🤣😅🤣
Awesome video! And the final look is amazing. But why do the nibs other than it looks cool? Is there a structural advantage? or is it primarily just for the look?
Looks fantastic, I’m just about to tackle my own boat. Does the main panels come pre made or do you need to fabricate them yourself from strips of teak?
@mongo6606 I touch on the panel construction a little bit in part 1 of the video; unfortunately TDS is not able to give me specifics on how they do it, or the resins that they use (trade secret stuff)... You can find out a little more from their website though... Thank You!
beauty ! Is the teak panel premade ? if it is where can we get some ? is it epoxy on the teak for the finish or something else ? :) thank you for the tips !! beautiful work
hi. I'm interested in removing the fiberglass cabin from my 18' boat. I want to replace it with a teak deck to give the boat and nice appearance. I'm going for the teak deck speedboat look with a painted hull. question.. do you think it's possible
what is the name of the cutting chizzal and what is the name of the multi tool sander.polisher rotary thing that you can attach a vacuum cleaner to. hope you understand Our English.teehee. I have just bought a boat and after washing it ..boy it needs work. I had a brain injury a few years ago and i can only learn through vision /video so i am so very grateful for your vids you star you
The chisel I used is a Japanese style called a crank neck chisel. The other tool I used is called a rotary sander or random orbit sander. Some sanders are able to be hooked to a vacuum while others just use a small filter. The ones that hook to a vacuum work much better at keeping dust down, but they also cost a lot more :-( Hope this helps!
Thanks! Would really like to see your project as it progresses. If interested I'll post the pics and descriptions on my website under 'Viewer Projects'. Good luck with everything, I have no doubt that it will look great :-)
I cannot stop watching Andy's videos. He deserves every accolade in teaching marine repair.

Wow ... wish your shop was in Melbourne Australia.
I admire your Really beautiful craftsmanship. Job well done. Which do you feel is better to oil teak or let it turn gray? Why?
This guy is master craftsman!
Use baby wet wipes to remove caulking from hands and tools.
looks good ! The nibbing is usually off of a small template , the curve comes to half a batten and then they are connected from the half batten curve back to the caulk seam it creates a slight angle.
I liked your video. good light and audio. I would have done a couple of things differently but you done good.
I appreciate the method of trimming the bungs. I have always sanded them and it takes forever. I was surprised to see that you can sand the caulk and then get the finish to adhere. Is that a non silicone based caulk?
Now that's some sick skills my man..Thank you ssssssso much..

It's called Acoustic Sunrise. Part of the iMovie suite that comes with Mac's :-)
Hi, very interesting video, thank you very much! What kind of chisel do you use here? Is it a japanese brand, like Kote Nomi?
Best, M.

Excellent, tutorial, thanks
Hey, Thanks! I appreciate the compliments :-)

+Dan Hicks mainly for appearance :-). I think it looks better than squared ends
I wonder if I can use old reclaim Oak wood flooring for my sail boat flooring?? Is this good wood to use ?
Hi ...Can you stick the teak deck to the boats's surface gel coat with thickened epoxy or must you sand down to laminate? Cheers..
Looks fantastic, I’m just about to tackle my own boat. Does the main panels come pre made or do you need to fabricate them yourself from strips of teak?

Great tutorial.
Amazing job
Any idea if this decking or similar is still available? They don't seem to list it now.
Nice job!
Great videos! Approximately how much weight is added per square foot when adding the teak decking system?
Not sure, but relatively speaking it's insignificant compared to the overall weight of the boat :-)
beautiful work!!!
Thank you!!
beauty !
Is the teak panel premade ? if it is where can we get some ?
is it epoxy on the teak for the finish or something else ? :)
thank you for the tips !! beautiful work

That's is beautiful!!!!
What is a good thickness for teak decking is 1/4" too thin? Is there a type of teak to stay away from as there are several sub species of teak?
How do u fasten the boarder trim? Screws and apoxy?
great job.
Nice job!!!
what is the brown filler you have used with epoxy ?
I'm refitting a Columbia sailboat and want to replace the teak and holly cabin sole with teak and rubber. Are the decking panels available retail?
