They only changed the Diff because he is famous car journalist. Anyone not well known will be getting the run around which Australia is well known for.
Wow 4,00km and 6 software update recalls Rough idle from unaligned engine And diff replacement That’s officially more issues than my 500,000km Mitsubishi Pajero has ever had
It’s videos like this that make you guys so trustworthy. Too many reviewers only cover the positives. Glad you go looked after though Paul! Keep up the good work
Using your platform to get Ford to play ball is EXACTLY what I would do in your position, especially if they were originally giving you radio silence on the issue. That whine would absolutely do my head in so I can sympathise. Hopefully this allows regular people with the same issue to get it fixed without too much bother.
No, its a good thing he is famous and well known, imagine what would happen with a ford dealership if an unknown person was to drive in - go away sir, we DONT CARE!
@@alanhoult3613haha OK Toyota fanboi troll. 5 year class action to get Toyota to admit dpf issue... That's just one. Our work fleet of Toyota's have just as poor service as Ford.
That's the legendary Ford Quality😅! If you feel that it's "disappointing" for you and your Ford dealer is obviously cognizant of the fact that you're an Automotive Journalist, can you imagine the hell that common folks would need to go through to have their Ford vehicles fixed? Now, imagine that after the warranty expires. Yeah, exactly 😂 This is the truthful content that everybody needs and other automotive channels should be making more of. Looking after the interest of the motoring public should always be top priority over any vehicle manufacturer. Great job!
If you remove Ford from purchases, then who do you go with that will give you the least amount of headaches that is not a Toyota? I’m just wondering if there’s an actual alternative.
@@CP-pb3pj Toyota dealers worse, wouldn't have changed the diff or claimed it is functioning as expected. He got the problem fixed, crazy to think 1 miliion vehicles per year none are going to have manufacturing problems.
@bazza2540 yeh he got it changed because they know he's famous youtuber , wanna know how Ford actually treated others theres been on the news about it others been waiting for almost half a year before they can do anything about it .
I’ve been in the automotive industry for over 30years and it’s good to hear how they looked after you in particular having the car channel and influence on TH-cam, I’m curious if the other guy with the same issue you mentioned has been looked after in the same manner
Build quality and reliability issues are nothing new for Ford. Diff oil isn't measured properly at the factory and then the pre-inspection check amounts to "Does it turn over? Yep? Sweet."
Generational ford owner here, they have made many mistakes over the years my granddad useto tell me stories bout his falcon issues. It will never be a Toyota and you just have to live with that. You do get a 3.5L, 4.0L and 5.0L engine tho.... I guess you need to weigh it all up
@@snapchat7293Even Toyota are managed by humans, and humans are all prone to errors. I experienced one of this errors from a Toyota dealership. They didn't tighten one of my wheels correctly, then suddenly I saw this wheel overtaking me faster than a racing car. When I contact Toyota, it was the fault of mister nobody, they even stopped replying my messages or calls. Needed to file a case against them in Department of Trade and Industry, to get them being serious in the matter. But even so, they're General manager and her employees, tried to input the mistakes to us. What? I came to service my car in your official dealership, you changed my brake pads, then suddenly my wheel go away and that's my mistake ? They invented crazy stories and theories to blame us of their mistakes. At the final, the lawyer if this Toyota dealership made a mistake in the papers, which disqualified them automatically from winning anything. Suddenly they were ok to negotiate it. These people are only here to make business, they don't care about you or your car, once they sold one to you.
As a ex pre delivery worker I can say we are human and with the volume we are expected to get through we some time miss something but I’m saying that they have our mane and inspection I’d all written dale to said vehicle
same thing i said too! i also doubted the mount as the cause of the rough idle because of how he described it, I thought maybe vacuum leak but it turns out my first instinct was right.
My question too. And how the heck do they just replace the entire dif with a brand new one without actually explaining where the whining noise problem originated from
I'm building a Bronco with a 351, C4 and a 9". Electronic radio & ignition, that's it. It's nearly 40 years old and hadn't had an update other than a restoration. It does donuts, burnouts, wheel stands and hasnt failed, won't fail, though it does idle a bit lumpy..
Imagine if you're just an ordinary driver who doesn't know to recognise the diff whining? You'll just be passed off by Ford probably and they wouldn't even bother to examine it during the servicing. In Paul's case, its a good thing that he knew what to look for!
How it's handled if you are an ordinary punter and not a YT influencer would be the real test, so I would take this particular outcome with a Ranger rear tray full of salt. The fact that it has happened to three of the same model from a relatively small samle size suggests an issue back at the factory when Darren on the assembly line's brain receptors run low on Nicotine and he's hanging for a smoko so goes short on the diff fluid so he can get on the douche flute faster. Do better Dazza!
Ford service is garbage regardless of which dealership you go to. We bought our Ford at the same dealership Paul took his Raptor too and have serviced it at multiple different dealers now. They just all suck, which is such a shame because the car has been fantastic over the last 5 years / 150,000ks
My 2016 Mustang service at Fords initially seemed fine until the AC wouldn't work. Found in US forums a fault but was told here not to believe the internet, haha. AC compressor was replaced. Lose left rear wheel bearing, same story. Then told someone had hit the rear of the car in the service car park and needed repair but no one saw anything..mmm, but my dash cam said otherwise. It was an employee. Diff oil low when I finally had it serviced by local mechanic, WHAT!!! Tip- have your car serviced by a trusted local mechanic.
@@tj323iWhen you're famous guy from a well known TH-cam channel, they'll service you correctly to avoid bad ads. Normal clients would be served in garbage mode after.
Yeah. Most of my services with ford have been fine, but my last one I booked online with a loan car, then 2 days before they called to say they didn't have one available and must have been a "glitch". So I had to wait another 3 weeks to get it serviced.
Yup it's the same across the board with Ford service centres. Our local has had my Wife's Mk8 Fiesta ST for 6 weeks now and waiting for a new PCM to turn up.
My Ranger Platinum V6 diesel has developed this noise at 24,000km. Took it to Ford and they said they thought it was the tyres so they were rotated, issue was still there. Took it back again and had the tech go on a road test, said they would look into it, had the car overnight , checked the diff no metal in the diff oil all good. Told me they hear the sound, but don't know what it is. Had enough of being treated like an idiot. I have a relationship with my Ford dealership that I dont want. Going to make them watch your video and demand this gets sorted otherwise im rejecting the vehicle. I have raised a complaint with Ford Customer Care and received a very average response.
3 weeks after I got my car back from Ford, they said my transfer case had failed. Transfer case replaced, no difference. Still whining terribly. Tested back to back with a mates new Ranger and no noise. Back to Ford for the 6th time for this issue! Over it!
Unfortunately, dealer service centres have poorly trained staff (with apprentices carrying out the work). A good, compentent and honest mechanic, is very hard to find.
@@rowancarn2567 I agree, as a former apprentice myself! I ought to have been clearer: my agreement was in relation to the difficulty in finding a good and honest mechanic.
When my Raptor arrived in Taupo, NZ, the day I was supposed to go and collect it they called me and said that it had a faulty diff and needed replacing. Apparently nearly one in 4 Raptors had this faulty diff. Sounds like yours should have been tested and replaced before you even got it.
Glove box collapsed, rough idle and diff replaced, all in 3000ks 😂 great to see the build quality at Ford has improved. I look forward to seeing how the next few years go for you mate.😂
Thats the difference between an Australian built Ford and one made in Thailand! I drive an AU Fairmont Ghia (S2) and I bet it would drive better than the new Ranger including handling, rattles and build quality.
My 2003 BA Falcon is still going strong. Original drivetrain, exhaust, alternator, starter motor and rear brake rotors 323,000km. They don't make 'em like they used to
I took mine in for its first service and they said they drained the diesel water filter - err?. No report card at all - didn't fix the glove box that has been broken since delivery (but did offer to quote a new one for me to buy?!?). So consider your service about a 200% better experience than I received.
@@nemanjarasula1599 I love the car, but the after-sales dealer I have to work with sucks. I bought the car from the same dealer as Paul but that is 4 hours away so not an option to get it serviced there.
little over 280,000 km in my 2004 Prado VX and zero issues to date. only things replaced are related to wear and tear (rear shocks, Air Conditioning Servo Motor and brake discs). hope Toyota keeps this up with the newly re-done Prado and engines.
Ok so my Raptor has slight diff whine at 80 on decel. It also has rough idle sometimes and the main screen does weird things, all happened from new. It now has 7000 kms. I had the first complementary service on it and I didn't even mention these issues because I am an ex ford service employee of 7 years and I can tell you I was nervous taking my Raptor in to a dealership after seeing first hand what went on. And also what didn't. I knew they would not even bother looking at an issue unless it's staring them in the face. Now I can tell you not one mechanic will check the diff oil at pre delivery inspection. Even with these mild issues I still love my Raptor and I've realised it's not a mercedes or bmw its a ford ute so I just roll with the little noises and vibrations etc.
This all sounds very familiar. Not a Raptor. Not even a current gen Ranger. But we had a 2017 PX2 Wildtrak for work. Towed a braked, 1 tonne trailer regularly. Did a lot of driving. But all pretty standard. Anyway. We blew not one, but two gearboxes. The auto. Luckily under warranty. But my experience dealing with Ford in Geelong left a bit to be desired. Front of house staff not too bad, but the head mechanic and management, oh boy… Anyway. Engines and gearboxes on pallets all over the shop there. And the amount of PX1-3 Rangers and BT50s you see on tilt trays is pretty alarming. Long story short, they didn’t have a proper, dedicated transmission cooler. On the third trans, we got an aftermarket one installed. Saw highway speed trans fluid temps drop from 95 to 65 degrees. Much more inline with the competitors. Just wild to me that they didn’t have proper coolers up front.. Good luck. Ford, they circled the problem!
Back in 1994 (basically just after modern man stood upright) I purchased a manual VR Commodore 'S' with a LSD. It would physically lift the rear of the car when in reverse and grind and pop and bang. Also the car would stay fixed in place on steep hills with the clutch depressed and no brakes applied... From very early on I might add. Dealer could never find a problem apparently. Until one day when the car jumped about a metre and a half to the left coming out of a right hand corner and nearly threw me into some very large trees. At that point myself and a family member demanded a solid solution to the issue the dealer 'couldn't replicate'.They ordered a replacement diff after finally (ie they hadn't looked before....) draining the oil in the diff and finding it cooked and full of metal. Service manager had to apologise and admitted they'd dismissed my numerous complaints because I was 22 at the time and their service department categorised me as a 'young whinging hoon' who was making the whole issue up. Clearly that wasn't the case. New diff worked as designed.
Hey, I’m driving a Wildtrack with the same transmission as two of my friends. One of them had to change the transmission after three years while mine is causing jerking and whining. The third car seems to be working fine. In conclusion, it seems like the FORD 10-speed transmission is not just excessive, but also seems more like a marketing gimmick rather than a functional feature of the car.
I would put "side strike" up against "doing a few doughtnuts" and go "I think we have a sideways force problem on the pinion gears. With the shot of the diff while moving, it would be interesting to see the shot without a fisheye lens under cornering. I wonder whether the lateral load is not being taken by the case, but put though the half axels and the gearing in the diff, or if that casing has flex. I feel that Ford has finally got a cracker of a product that everyone wants. I would hate for a fundamental problem to derail that.
lets not go nuts mate, press cars are flogged by dickheads who have no idea, jumping it and all sorts. I would be wondering if Paul drove his car on bitumen in 4H
Be prepared for your vacuum system to fail and cause your front hubs to start grinding while your driving. When you hear the grinding sound, engage 4 wheel drive and take it in immediately. They will tell you there’s nothing wrong over and over until they are so badly damaged they will require replacement. Cost is about 2k here in the states. My raptor had 31000 miles on it
$100k for a Raptor gets you 6 recalls, a broken diff, a rough idle and no doubt an absolute hell of a time dealing with Ford Australia to get it all sorted if you aren't a well known journalist/celeb. After a couple of service issues on my LW Focus ST and then an absolute clown show when trying to buy a SA ST I'm really glad I didn't bother, seems like nothing has changed.
I have a Holden Trax which I noticed a squeak in the engine, which got louder if I was in a confined space like a garage. When I took it to service at a dealership and advised them of this, they said they looked and that the squeak was a matter of opinion. This problem was never solved and it’s now bringing up more issues.
I love that your reporting your experiences, I hope Ford watch these videos to improve for other customers & their cars. My own experiences have not been good at all with my Everest, I have ordered a new BMW as I have had enough.
Bought a rexton sangyong after watching your reviews on it. I’ve owned a number of Ute’s for towing a caravan. Took the rexton to Hervey Bay and back to central coast NSW. Very happy with the car towing a touch over 3 ton no problems at all. Did use weight distribution bars which helped however very impressed with the Rexton.
I think the issue is less brand specific, & more pre-delivery specific with lots of new cars over the past couple of years. If it passes a test drive without the wheels falling off, good to go. None of them seem to check oil levels, bolt tensions, wheel alignment, noises & rattles etc, it's up to the customer to complain if they notice something, & in most cases it will get missed. Saves plenty of $ by cutting corners & relying on most customers not noticing or questioning even if they do.
That kind of stuff is done at the factory, the dealers don't have time to go over every nut and bolt on every car before it goes out. These issues are caused by quality control lacking at the factory or the factory is cutting corners.
It'll be interesting to see if the Amarok has the same problem with their diffs as the Ranger. Presumably it's the same diff, so if the Amarok has similar problems then there's obviously a design flaw. However if the Amarok doesn't have these problems, that could suggest VW is better at filling the diff with the right amount of oil at the factory and/or VW pre-delivery inspections are more thorough than Ford's.
@@joelawrence56 they actually don't, the Rangers are built in Thailand for Australia, but all Amaroks regardless of market are built at a Ford plant in South Africa instead.
Wow thanks for this video. What a worrisome development. I'm sure they knew that you're Media and they still treat you like that? What happens to those of us that don't have the same platform as yours -- they wouldn't have replaced the diff if it was a normal person!? Its like the dealerships never know what to do with anything that's why they don't communicate well
Glad it was resolved. Would have liked to have seen the owner pull a couple more donuts at the end of the video to see if he could recreate the diff whine in the new diff. I guess this leaves room for a sequel.
I know that the hilux is no where as quick or comfy as one of these but in 18 years of owning 3 different hiluxus I have never had a problem with them. My 2017 had the dpf issue and that was fixed. Other then that no issues with the drive train, no issues with the engine or anything else. These new cars have way to much technology for there own good.
I’ve been on the fourums for these rigs and they are full of issues. Glad this well known guy in the industry is getting looked after when others are turned away
Hi Paul, great video as usual. Sorry to hear about your problematic Raptor. I got my Raptor December, I have thrashed the thing! Very rough 4x4ing, mud holes, jumping over sand dunes at high speeds, driving over speed humps at 120+ kph and I've been lucky enough to have no problems except for a headlight warning that got "updated/cleared" at first service. I have just over 10k kph on it and loving it.
Plenty of comments on here about typical ford, the competition is no difference, Hilux has plenty of recalls over the last few years, Dmax is the same, steering arm falling off, turbo failures requiring 5 revisions to fix the issue , the Ranger is an all new model so there's bound to be some issues, and the factory was pushing to get them out ASAP due to massive pre-sales, that's what happens when you buy the first gen of any new model, the main thing is if the dealer fixes the issues, if they don't then that's a problem (for any manufacturer)
My 2020 Ranger Raptor Diff blew around 70,000km . Diff locker engaged by itself on the motorway and grenaded itself . They found their was a short circuit engaging the diff.
That happened to my neighbours mitsi Triton twice. First time they replaced the diff but the next time they had worked out what the cause was. happened twice at 5000ks and almost bang on again at 10,000ks.
I've had my Raptor since November 2022 with just over 10k klms now. Sorry you've had some bad experiences. Mine have been excellent - except for two out-of-service interval trips to the dealer for software recalls - which I can't tell what has changed except resetting my dash to factory settings. Thanks for the content and sharing your experiences.
Hi Paul, I followed the time you bought your Raptor and drove across Australia . It's too soon to have the diff lock changed on a Ute that hasn't even done 5000km. I don't think Hilux would ever disappoint like that.
I think it’s fair to say that Ford recognised the problem and fixed the issue. Although frustrating it’s been resolved. I had a VW Golf R which went through 9 wheel bearings in 6 months. VW refused to take the car back as faulty and didn’t believe it was a safety issue? Things like this happen on mass produced cars. I think it’s a good outcome for everyone.
I agree its crazy. Not enough oil... thatsvery strange, as the pumps they use on the factory floor is fitted with a measuring device to the exact quantity. Think they only change the complete diff, because they knew you are from Car Expert. Replaceing the internals would have been cheeper and in less time. Glad they fixed you up. 😅😊😊
It's cheaper for Ford to replace the complete diff as they don't need to pay for the labour of a rebuild or risk questionable repair work. It is common place for manufacturers to just replace whole units and not have dealers carry out repairs.
I've also noticed that the raptor and rangers 2L biturbos has been downgraded to wet-type timing belts instead of timing chains which were seen in the 2.2 and 3.2 L phased out variants. I guess the purpose of that was to make the ride more smoother but at a cost of course.
Glad you got it sorted. I had a diff replaced on my SSV Ute because the dealership put wrong diff oil in and didn’t have the additive. Sounds the same but mine got clunky very quickly. But hearing about all these new Ford Ranger platforms issues makes me glad I have a Hilux!
The Ford Ranger maybe an extremely popular model in the 4x4 segment. But I have to say just because it is popular does not mean it is the best. Although I admit I do like the look of the new Ford Ranger Raptor. I am very put off by the amount of "faults" and "Issues" they appear to be having not just mechanically but also electrically. If you ask a lot of mechanics they all say avoid Ford their reliability has fallen through the floor. I admit am looking at a new 4x4 and as said do really like the Raptor both in looks inside and out but, all the issues are seriously putting me off getting one. I am leaning more towards the Toyota Hilux SR5 Cruiser. Does it have all the bells and whistles that the ford has? No. Is it reliable ? It appears to be. Yes, I know there is supposedly an updated hilux coming out in 2024 but, that is 2024. I do like the look of the widebody version and although doesnt have all the bells and whistles of the Ford. Reliability to me is more important than gimmicks and additional features.
I bought a new triton in May this year and had all the fluid levels checked at an independent workshop and found the diff was a 1l low and transmission was 1.5l low. It had 150km on the clock. Id hate to think of the issues if i didnt decide to have it checked somewhere i trust
Some dealerships will say "never heard of this before" or "can't fault it". Other dealerships " fixed, here are your keys". Everest 21.75. So far so good.
@@dragginmedown Yeah I had the auto replaced in my bt50 in 20 thousand km's from new, and I had a diff replaced in a brand new navara as well. After the replacements the cars were fine. Although the transmission fault was 100% due to not enough oil. I know this because when I replaced the oil on the second box it was way under filled again.
Hi Paul thank you for your experience and this video. After work today I will jump into my Ranger Raptor ( just 900km old) and will listen for this issue. Since I bought this car in April I had two times by now a frozen middle screen. Greetings from Switzerland
Be keen to see the difference between the actual fuel usage, compared with the dash display usage. I'd like to see if the Raptor can make it to the next service without any issues. The Raptor is marketed to be the most capable ute, maybe you could try some actual 4x4 day trips/weekenders.
most capable hahahahahhahahaa Mate, I hate Chinese fucking cars, but borrowed one of those while they fixed the ford. LDV was fucking way better, considering its got all the balls of a fkin ebay non name vacuum, thats sad.
Here in South Africa the FJ cruisers value just keeps climbing. Many people drive them in the dunes as well. I have a 2016 fortuner and the only part I replaced other than servicing and brakes was the manifold. My current mileage is 197,000. I drive 10% dirt roads.
Greetings. My Raptor now sitting on 3500km, 1 month old and all is fine. However it seems to have developed a little rattle in the driver side B pillar. Otherwise it is the most comfortabel car I have ever owned. More comfortable than my Land Cruiser 200 VXR and my wife’s Defender D300, not even to mention the fun factor 😁😁😁
Word of advice for anyone that has an issue with their new vehicle. Don't add diagnostic jobs with your service booking and expect it to be fixed the same day, because the service work goes to the apprentices/low trained service techs. It's fine to add the jobs, but dont expect any real diagnostics to be done the same day as your service. If you want an issue looked at properly, only book it in for that issue. It will then go to an actual diagnostic tech that has more than half a brain. Also, if it's not a simple issue, then it's normal for it to not be rectified the same day because sometimes the brands technical assistance hotline might not have a solution the same day. At the end of the day, the service work and recalls take priority over diagnostic job's. Oh, and when making diag bookings, make sure you talk to someone and dont just book it through their dealer website. This way you can make sure any loan vehicles are extra diagnostic time will be allocated to you for your booking.
Hi Paul, your videos on the new Raptor Ranger are unreal. I would like to see how it goes off road on sand dunes as I have heard about a trans overheating problem on the new Ranger. Please do a review on the Ranger Raptor in the sand or perhaps you could even put it up against a 2023 3.6 JL Rubicon unlimited on the dunes & beach. Can't wait for your next video, I'm about to purchase a new vehicle & this could help me decide.
Good luck mate. I had a Wildtrak T6 with all kinds of problems from air-conditioning to transmission etc... Easily spent more than a month in the workshop. The straw that broke the camels back was the rear door lock which gave way. Great truck to drive when it works but crap reliability. I am back to Hilux!
It's just a diff change due to whine( pinion backlash would have been out of wack from factory). It happens more than u think, and like others suggest some ppl wouldn't even know they have diff whine as they won't listen for it. Ford did the exact right thing here for warranty! Changed diff, no questions asked! Would have been more worried if they gave u the run around and changed oils, put additives in it to quieten it down etc. I Had diff whine happen once on one of my xr6 turbos, changed diff problem fixed under warranty. Can't say diff is rubbish as they can easily handle big hp with no issues. Could be worse toyota front diffs are known to strip the pinion teeth off them and catastrophic themselves. But toyota loyalists call this a feature and not a fault. They happily pay the toyota dealership to replace it because they are told it's their fault and they don't want to admit to their friends their indestructible prado is stuffed!
I am keeping my eye on the Raptor and hope to get it or the new Prado in a couple of years. But I doubt any sane person would call an issue on their vehicle, a feature. Some times people would not make noise about it if it gets fixed once. I think it is when the dealer has no clue on the fix. My 2022 Tiguan got a mechatronic replaced within 2000km, if the problem persisted, I would have made some noise for sure. 6 recall and a diff replacement is more than enough to make noise as compared to one front diff issue
@braalo07 I think Paul needs to differentiate between recalls and updates( software) there has been just 1 recall on these vehicles and that was to do with twisted drivers seatbelt. Sure there is probably a few technical service bulitens that are out and a few software updates that will keep coming as small software glitches get sorted. All cars get these by the way. Like I was saying a whining diff from new does happen. It's all about how the dealer handles it. They did the right thing, just like your experience with your tiguan. It's if they give you the run around or more issues come up that u start to question. I had the model of prado with the dpf issue and many customers just believed Toyota when they said it was their fault for not driving it on the highway enough. I found the issue never happened if you blow the cob webs out a bit here and there. But many ppl had big problems and out of pocket heaps for a real problem the manufacturer ignored. Ford did the same with the dual clutch transmissions in fiestas etc. No manufacturer is perfect. But I do like that ford in this instance changed the diff without questioning.
@tcmx712 not so just using some examples. Dpf issues in prado/hilux are pretty recent. Just trying to show context in the conversation, 1 bloke has diff whine in his ranger and everyone says never buy a Ford as it will fall apart. Their customer service is rubbish and they will give u the run around. Toyota literally have issues the same as every other manufacturer and now we are all Toyota bashers. I actually have a 2023 prado gxl and an older everest so get to see both sides of the camp. See how Toyota dealer handles customers as well as the Ford dealer. To be honest they are much of a muchness. Biggest thing in this instance is the diff had a whine, car looked at, diff was changed, customer wasn't given the run around or blamed. That's a win for all involved in my experience.
Love to see if the oil is braking down after the clutches have been put under stress after a few thousand kilometres of use. Probably start using a different oil or the preloade on the clutches could be out of spec from factory. Plus that on and off throttle whine is more like crow an pinion bearing. Lack of oil will definitely cause those issues.
I wouldn't be shocked. All of these new vehicles are lacking QC. My wife's 2016 Ford Explorer 2.3l (USA) with only 1200 miles had to have the transmission replaced. Was slipping pretty bad. It has 65k now and has been fine ever since it was replaced. I think it is all manufacturers. I have friends with new vehicles of all makes and models, and they have issues as well. Our government is making to many demands for certain technologies, and the manufacturers are rushing these vehicles out without truly testing them.
Sounds common, I also know some one with a raptor with 4000kms, riddled with issues, one being a complete engine change. Was considering buying a raptor but all of this is very concerning, hate to know what’ll happen after 50000kms. I’ll be buying a GR hilux, say what you want about them but I’ve owned two hilux’s in the last 17 years which have been absolutely faultless, can’t believe I considered swapping brands.
I developed this same exact issue after going to the dry lake beds to do what the raptor was mean to do. Immediately after a couple hours in the dirt, the whine started coming from the diff and it NEVER had that sound before i have 6,500 miles on my Ranger Raptor. I'm calling ford first thing in the morning (today is Sunday). I really hope they dont give me the run around because this is clearly an manufature defect in a differential that is subpar and possible ill assembled or cheap parts/defective.
Not one bit surprised, I purchased 2 next gen raptors one in conquer Grey which was delivered in first week December 2022 and then my shadow black next gen raptor was delivered in February 2023 while my brother purchased a wildtrak premium pack, let me tell you both my raptors had the idle problems that your car has and my Grey raptor had the exact same whine which also was a problem with the diff which also was replaced, my brothers wildtrak also had a diff issue with also having a gear box issue when stopping or taking off or when it’s in reverse. 3 of the utes had the issues within 2000 km, and same issues with the glove compartment getting stuck lol. Let me tell you this once the problems where fixed by ford me and my brother, I sold both my raptors and he sold his wildtrak. We where just turned of and apparently it’s not an isolated incident either. Thankfully we still made a profit selling them which made this whole process a little bit easier. I’ve since purchased a 2023 Hilux rogue, and waiting on my GR Hilux to be delivered end of this year. Rather be in a dinosaur but a reliable one then be in a lemon.
It's pretty poor for punters to post here, stating he should get a Toyota or serves him right or chuckle at his poor luck. Paul wanted a Raptor and bought one. Good luck to him. At least he's in good spirits about it. Hopefully he doesn't endure other issues and he kicks on happily ever after and we continue to enjoy his videos.
No it actually does serve him right. There's plenty of info out there on the internet about known issues with Ford Raptors. They appear to have distinct build quality issues as well as a reputation amongst mechanics for being "built to a price". You pay your fare you take the ride, as the saying goes...
4x4 of the year 👍. Typical ranger. Used to work next door to a ford dealership and 5 or 6 a week benin on the tow truck. Good to see ford being consistent.😅
Had a lot of apprehensions about ordering mine due to reliability, so this hasn’t filled me with much confidence. Either way, can’t wait until it arrives and just hope I don’t see any issues!
Hey mate I’ve put 20000kms on mine 8 months old. Not a single problem. Don’t let this deter you. All cars have problems just have to be one of the unlucky ones like Paul
Things happen. The diff started to make a funny noise in my D40 Nissan Navara after 4,000 miles many years ago. Nissan replaced it under warranty. The second diff now has 100,000 miles and keeps going strong.
I have a newgen Raptor that developed a fault with the hill start assist and experienced great service from my local dealer. Mine was one of the early ones so initially Ford had no clue what was going on so my truck was used as a bit of a guinea pig and a number of tests were required, but if I wanted something (or they), it was always 'when can you bring it in' ...none of these long waiting times you mention. IMO, thats really poor service, particularly initially. I can appreciate new parts taking longer to be ordered and delivered to your local Ford, but not appointments! Thats poor. I wouldn't recommend booking through their website and would always call them, personally. Anyway, my fault is fixed (faulty door sensors), I'm 12,000kms in and no diff whine here. Love the truck, best vehicle I've ever owned.
Paul from South Africa here. I had the same problem with my Ranger. What actually caused the whining was that Ford had installed the wrong diff for my vehicle. They installed a female diff. This would obviously lead to whining. Also, low lubrication did not cause the whining, just the other way around. Her whining caused her to have low lubrication.
I had an ABS fault on my 2016 Ford Kuga. Tried to get it booked in to my Ford dealer . They told me they didn't have a diagnosis technician at the dealership. I said surely one of the mechanics can just plug the scan tool in to read the codes. Apparently not, that's the diagnosis technician s job. So much for Ford training. I went to a local mechanic. He diagnosed the fault and told me which sensor had set the code. I bought a OEM Ford ABS sensor for $40 and changed it myself.
These things happen especially to series 1 vehicles. No car manufacturer is immune. Just as long as they fix the issues & it doesn’t cost you anything.
Because the Raptor is a performance vehicle with lots of power and technology. Mazda is a small dull japanese car that is suited for small families. Totally different vehicles in terms of technology. @@Big-Show1
@@Ryzen9800-c2y High performance yeah? - If that's the case then there's no excuse for failed Valve springs (which new gen Raptors are known for - that's the cause of the rough idle which they discovered). It's just cheap lazy mass produced engine components that are the problem. The difference I'm referring to is Mazda have a really strict quality control program. Ford on the other hand ..... Lol.
You clearly dont know what you're talking and have no clue about how the industry works. Engine components are not made by Ford, they are subconstractors. Also Ford Motor has strict regulations about their engines too. Ive worked on their turbos (Garret) a while back and we had very strict regulations, on par with the german ones. Every engine is "mass produced" its the technology and complications that made them faulty. Ford is not responsible for blown up engines, their manufacturers are. @@Big-Show1
Will be checking on this, thanks Paul..Though don't expect anything. Living in Thailand, October'22 Raptor, got 24,000 km done now (mostly city and highway), no problems at all, 2,000km check, 15k Service (free), 1 software update and a fuel-sensor replaced (caused engine light to go on). (My wife's Benz, GLA-200 just had her first service, 490 AUD..) Service with the Garage has been stellar, I can call them anytime and they'll log into my car and check when there's a problem. (like the engine-light). Diagnosed, no worries, can keep driving and pop in tomorrow to have the sensor-issue fixed and we'll do the software update at the same time. I have a 7yrs/250,000km factory warranty, car is an absolute dream to drive and I'd buy a spare one if they'd announce a replacement with smaller (or electric) engine. Absolutely zero worries.
I do think this video is a great post. We need more of you interviewing owners that back up longevity ownership of kms doing caravan and off road and trade jobs in the bush off road. Yep ford service isn't great unfortunately. I waited 5 weeks for an inspection for a loud rattle. Picked it up at the end of the day. Service adviser says "yep there's a rattle" I said yeah I know DiD you fix it ? Ford service go. Nah too busy mate you'll have to book it in for that. Next available is another 5 weeks. WTF. That's what it's here for now ya Muppet..... Shrugged his shoulders and asked if I'd like to book it in..... Go ford
Frustrating I know but like most industries there is a shortage of mechanics. But it isn't just Ford service that is poor but Toyota as well. My sister took her corolla in for a service and told them the windscreen wipers needed replacing, the car came back with the report saying she should consider replacing the wipers at the next service.
@@tomnewham1269 it's more profiteering by hiring apprentices for the cheap wages and skipping service requirements to save time on capped cost servicing. Greed and nothing more. If you've ever talked to anyone who used to work in the workshop they have nothing good to say.

Big respect for sharing this. All manufacturers have their issues but how it's handled is what counts. Please keep the updates coming 👍
yeah thanks Daniel Andrews
It was handled because he is an INFLUENCER.
I’ve bought 3 Mitsubishis from new and never encountered major issuez.
can’t say I have been too impressed with my two experiences with a Ford dealer service with my Mustang either.

Nothing's wrong with apprentice's doing the work. It's the lack of supervision and training by qualified techs.

I got a question: do you have to take it to ford in particular to check or can you take it to any reliable mechanic?
This all sounds very familiar. Not a Raptor. Not even a current gen Ranger. But we had a 2017 PX2 Wildtrak for work. Towed a braked, 1 tonne trailer regularly. Did a lot of driving. But all pretty standard. Anyway. We blew not one, but two gearboxes. The auto. Luckily under warranty. But my experience dealing with Ford in Geelong left a bit to be desired. Front of house staff not too bad, but the head mechanic and management, oh boy…
Anyway.
New diff worked as designed.
on the plus side they're not in business anymore

My raptor had 31000 miles on it
Glad you got your car fixed, but its hard to trust what is reported and what the actual issue is.
100% This is going to be a common problem. You can just tell..

Nah just ford trash 🗑️
That kind of stuff is done at the factory, the dealers don't have time to go over every nut and bolt on every car before it goes out. These issues are caused by quality control lacking at the factory or the factory is cutting corners.
That's incredibly frustrating when you have a new car and there is an issue that local dealers either can't sort out, or too lazy to sort out.
The dirt on the wheels is the ' instant dirt ' spray from Supercheap😅.

Thanks for your sharing experience. Glad you got it sorted. Makes me think twice about buying a Ford. They certainly need to up their game!
And imagine the price tag on that ranger with issues of faulty glove boxes, diff issues and all. It's just really not something nice to hear
It was short of 500mls so I doubt it was the wrong oil in Paul's ute but a lack thereof from the factory.
Had my SSV auto trans changed after 1,000 Km did not wont to change gear !
On my Raptor I have a rough idle absolutely from the begining, so I thought it is normal. No other issues, no diff whine. 7000km.
Nice to know Ford reliability hasn’t changed. That’s poor performance for an 80k+ Ute.
I wouldn't be too bummed about having the diff replaced, these things happe from. Time to time. But the delay in getting it fixed is a bit BS.
In a brand new car?
@@dragginmedown Yeah I had the auto replaced in my bt50 in 20 thousand km's from new, and I had a diff replaced in a brand new navara as well. After the replacements the cars were fine. Although the transmission fault was 100% due to not enough oil. I know this because when I replaced the oil on the second box it was way under filled again.
Yea diffs happen from time to time like windscreen chips 😂
What a stupid comment !!😂🤡
Hi Paul thank you for your experience and this video. After work today I will jump into my Ranger Raptor ( just 900km old) and will listen for this issue. Since I bought this car in April I had two times by now a frozen middle screen. Greetings from Switzerland
Be keen to see the difference between the actual fuel usage, compared with the dash display usage. I'd like to see if the Raptor can make it to the next service without any issues. The Raptor is marketed to be the most capable ute, maybe you could try some actual 4x4 day trips/weekenders.
Are you kidding me? Chino man would shit himself at the first sight of a spider
most capable hahahahahhahahaa Mate, I hate Chinese fucking cars, but borrowed one of those while they fixed the ford. LDV was fucking way better, considering its got all the balls of a fkin ebay non name vacuum, thats sad.
SO THANKFUL for honest videos like this. The Ranger is definitely off the list for potential upgrades for me. What a shyyt show ford is.
Paul, have you tried “Help me CarExpert, the diff in my Raptor is whining”?
😂😂
Great content as usual! Just an FYI, I'm still waiting for something to go wrong with my 2014 FJ Cruiser despite proper technical 4WDing.
whatever mate got any inner guard sidewall cracking?? Seatbelt recall fixed?
More comfortable in what way over a D300 Defender??
@@billybob1511dont get too triggered, each bum has its own sensitivity😂😂

@@bobbob8770 Thats true
Yeah Toyota's from 25yrs ago used to do front diffs not new ones, damn you Toyota haters really stretch for faults don't you
@tcmx712 not so just using some examples.
Well done mate. Hold them accountable
Welcome to the FORD ownership experience.
I have an FJ cruiser and just done 250,000km and the diff(s) are as new. Even still have original CV Boots and fan belt, radiator hoses 😂😊 amazing!
This bloke embodies the raptors market completely
Legends with impeccable style?
@@CarExpertAus haha fair play I didn’t know you owned a VL?
Sounds common, I also know some one with a raptor with 4000kms, riddled with issues, one being a complete engine change. Was considering buying a raptor but all of this is very concerning, hate to know what’ll happen after 50000kms. I’ll be buying a GR hilux, say what you want about them but I’ve owned two hilux’s in the last 17 years which have been absolutely faultless, can’t believe I considered swapping brands.
this is why Toyota is still considerable choice
Only by those that don’t read or follow current toyota issues, or deal with fleets of them
I developed this same exact issue after going to the dry lake beds to do what the raptor was mean to do.
Dealers do virtually nothing for pre-delivery except take your money! It's the biggest racket going.
I think they polish the shit out of it after sitting in a yard and boat for 2 months
Yep nearly $2000 dealer charge to take it out of pre-delivery mode and peel of some protection stickers.
Hey Buddy, gonna be watching this space if your provide any updates. Cheers!

I blame the donuts
Yes, but some unexperienced users think that only Ford has issues, lol.
@@Ryzen9800-c2y My wife bought a MY23 Mazda CX5.... No issues, No Recalls. Why does Raptor have so many?
(My wife's Benz, GLA-200 just had her first service, 490 AUD..)
Service with the Garage has been stellar, I can call them anytime and they'll log into my car and check when there's a problem.
