2:24:55 Hi Amber! The man-spider you met in the Research Hall is Patches, a long-standing FromSoftware tradition of sorts. A version of him is in nearly every game they make, including Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
He's not a man-spider in the other games though. But in all versions, he messes with the player in various ways, often putting them in danger. However, he also tries to make himself seem like a helpful ally (after begging for mercy). He usually is helpful, to a point.
In Bloodborne, he's the one that asked Amygdala to 'have mercy on the poor bastard', which landed you in the Nightmare Frontier the first time. You also spoke to him through the door you found him at here, but from the other side.
It's not essential, but there is an encounter with him you missed in the Nightmare Frontier. You saw him dangling in the distance, but didn't walk around the area that triggers it. I wouldn't want to spoil the details for your NG+ playthrough, so you can find him later.
On a related note, I recently murdered Patches on Eldin Ring, before I realized who he was. I didn't find him until mid-late game and his first encounter is a boss fight (with him). I cut him down in like 3-5 hits, and sadly didn't realize he was calling for a truce by the time they all landed. I missed his dialogue and questline entirely.
    RIP Patches (you lovable bastard).

  • @DarkLThemsby
    @DarkLThemsby 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

2:26:00 that was Patches, a recurring character through all the Soulsborne games that FromSoft has made, ever since Demon's Souls. He very famously leads the player to places with "Treasure" where he'll leave them to die.

I am SO impressed by your showing. Fromsoft games are not for the weak of heart, but when you get going it's addictive and it's hard to resist that challenge once you've broken through that barrier. You were a natural, and I loved seeing you absolutely kick ass. Girl you made it look easy, especially for a first time player.
Now play Elden Ring!! XD I would LOVE to see you run through that one too.

Noooo, I’m not ready for this to be over 😭
Thank you for this fantastic playthrough of Bloodborne, it has been such a joy to watch you experience all this for the first time.
Highlight of the series was watching your combat skills grow. The confidence you gained in fighting when you got used to everything, when everything clicked, when you found your sort of weapon? Freaking awesome. I cannot believe how quickly you melted some bosses, girl, it was amazing stuff!
But also the time that Shaun had a mind of his own and chucked that pebble at the locked door in perfect comedic timing lolol
    See you for RDR2, I can’t wait!

Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you so much for playing this game, and recording your first experience with it. And congrats on completing your first From Software game, it's always a good achievement! Last year it took the spot of my favourite game of all time (previous was Jet Set Radio Future, another great game, great unique art style, fun mechanics, highly recommend if you can get an OG Xbox but unfortunately the game can be expensive second-hand), and I absolutely love watching people fall in love with this game like I did. Favourite part of the series was you fighting Ludwig, he's my favourite game boss of all time, especially the music. You had such a fun/funny reaction especially to phase 2 haha!
I think you said in this video it might not happen, but I definitely recommend Elden Ring, and other games in the souls series from From Software. They're similar to Bloodborne, but the earlier entries are much slower, and you can definitely feel their age. That said, they're still worth checking out, even if just to see the other great games from the same company.
Happy to see you've heard of and seen Vaati's videos, he does great stuff. If you do check out other From Software games at some point I definitely think he's one of the best places to find lore videos and just interesting stuff about the games in general. If you're interested in more mechanical stuff instead of lore stuff, then check out Zullie the Witch, who picks out small abscure parts of the game via datamining, seeing how the game is put together etc., based on stuff you've said in this series I think you might find Zullie's stuff pretty interesting.
And finally (sorry for the long comment btw lol), can't wait for the RDR2 playthrough! It's yet another incredible game with a beautifully written story (especially the characters!) and an absolutely stunning, dense world you can get lost in for hours.

Every time I tune in to this series I’m astounded. I’ve played through this game probably 5 or 6 times and beaten every boss and Amber still managed to find things I’ve never seen and figured out stuff that took me dozens of hours to get. Especially with certain bosses like Laurence and the Orphan I remember being like “god I wish I had played this the way she did because she figured it out so quick.” Truly an amazing series and one of the few that made me want to stick with a channel

Congrats, Amber! I think my highlight was just seeing you be so open about the whole journey. That, and you loving oft-hated areas to bits. It's so refreshing to see someone smile and laugh in places that some people curse themselves through.
I was so stressed while playing this game at first and now it's become my comfort game. I haven't even finished Elden Ring yet and I keep coming back to Bloodborne to try out different weapons and builds.
If you're enjoying the dungeons, remember that there are a few especially challenging (and fun!) bosses you haven't seen yet.

Sad that this is over. Bloodborne was a masterpiece and you made it even more enjoyable with your cheerful character.
A note about Elden Ring is that it takes most of his gameplay from Dark souls trilogy with an upgrade to everything. Also, it is a very very long game, so if you want a short one for your next Fromsoft game, you should play Dark souls like you said (or Sekiro!).

"It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be."
The real difficulty in FromSoft games is more one of mindset than of skill. Not everyone is willing to try repeatedly, to see failure as progress, to view lost xp as no real setback. And that's okay. Games intended to appeal to everyone tend to be too bland for anyone to really enjoy.
So, yeaf, Bloodborne isn't for everyone. But I suspect some of those who avoid it due to its reputation would enjoy it if they gave it a chance.

    • @nekkofrost1419
      @nekkofrost1419 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

No, the real difficulty of most from games is perception, patience and mostly for bosses pattern reading.
The reason why any from game is easier if you played at least one is because you start to take it easy and be careful, I'm guessing for her, being a game dev she was playing the way the game wanted her to play from the start.

    • @jonathancapps1103
      @jonathancapps1103 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@nekkofrost1419 I don't disagree. But I believe that most players have the capacity for that patience and perception. But, whether due to conditioning by other games or simply being unwilling or uninterested in a more thoughtful gameplay, they don't approach FromSoft games with the necessary mindset :)

A lot of people decided to pick the game up because its open world, however, those who have never played a fromsoftware game are split. Some love it while others feel its confusing more than hard. Brilliant series. It's your reactions to what's happening that are most interesting to watch. I think that's why Bloodborne was perfect. Because the story isn't as in your face all the time (relative to other games) you're mostly reacting to gameplay and that's where your personality is allowed to shine best.

You're the best parry shooter I'ven watched so far in all the blind playthroughs. It's definitely a fun to watch new players found the true power of this move and enjoys it and destroys the enemies. If you feel you're op at this state I suggest try NG+, with better understanding of the familiar enemies, to experience a new balance and challenge in a totally freshing way. Also, it will allow you more time to read item descriptions to think about the true story behind the main game and the DLC. It absolutely amazing and heart catching once you understand all, and the Childhood's beginning is the best ending after you understand it. This is a very enjoyable playlist, I love it. Hope you keep on playing for us, thank you.

Loved watching this playthrough so much.
What I love about Fromsoft games (but Bloodborne most of all) is how the games feel tailor made not just for "emergent gameplay" but like genuine serendipitous moments, where the gameplay, environmental design/storytelling, and playstyle create moments where the player feels like their are learning, discovering, and progressing naturally, not just being fed down a pipeline of choreographed scenes. I think it's the confidence in their game design philosophy that allows them to be more than happy to let a player miss 50% of the "content" so long the player feels like they are exploring a world that existed well before their character was created, and will continue on after you stop playing. I feel like a tourist passing through Yharnam, and even though I've seen several people on youtube play through the game completely, my first playthrough still feels like MY first playthrough.
That's all a tangent just to say your playthrough had that magical serendipity to it, so many great moments & open minded determination. Everyone's first playthrough of Bloodborne is special and their own, but after watching several full playthroughs and experiencing my own, I genuinely think you had the attentiveness & attitude & resilience to have had what felt like one of the most special first playthroughs I think anyone, alone or with an audience, has had.

This is easily one of my favourite playthroughs for someones first experience with a Souls game. It's always delight seeing the game click with somebody and sink its claws into them.
Bloodborne is a different beast from Demon's Souls, the Dark Souls trilogy, and Elden Ring, but it shares enough of the same mechanics that it isn't completely separate from the rest; and I'd be excited to see you tackle the others too. Bloodborne is my favourite Souls game, I have over 450 hours in it and I HAD NO IDEA YOU COULD PARRY A WINTER LANTERN!! That was cool.
Again, such a fun play through, too many good moments.

  • @Dylan_Platt

I know I'm a couple of years late to this playthrough, but let me just add to all the others who have already said it -- FANTASTIC playthrough, one of the very best I've ever seen. The diligence and attention you gave this game was superb. That's exactly what Fromsoft games require most, even more than skill at the gameplay -- and you developed a HUGE amount of that too! So cool to see you slowly but surely become an absolute Visceral Master over the span of 18 videos.
Since this was 2 years ago, you've probably played it plenty since this first time. If not, though, or if any of the following seems like unfamiliar territory still, then the next time you're in Yharnam, investigate:
    - The wall beside where the elevator with the broken door descends past in Upper Mergo's Loft.
    - The elevator that appeared on the bottom floor of Mergo's Loft.
    - Try attacking the blood-covered man you spoke with outside the windmill in Forbidden Woods. Alternately, invite him back to Oedon Chapel and introduce him to the other NPCs.
    - Wait to go speak with Imposter Iosephka until after the Blood Moon rises (aka after you beat Rom).
    - Win the fight with Henryk (the hunter in yellow in Gascoigne's graveyard) and don't let Eileen die. Later, find her again in front of the main cathedral (where you fought Vicar Amelia), then proceed inside.
    - When you get to Old Yharnam, don't go up the tower to kill Djura (the chaingun hunter). Later, when you unlock the shortcut behind Darkbeast Paarl, take that back route into Old Yharnam, and then go up Djura's tower.
Edit: LOL!! I wrote this comment as soon as you hit credits. If I'd watched the rest of the video, I would've realized that you addressed the two most important of these right away!

Brilliant walkthrough, Amber! You began the game so cautiously, but got to grips with it pretty quickly, surprisingly even getting passed the pain-in-the-arse Father Gascogne without too much trouble. Epic Finale! The new Bosses, the old Bosses, your summations, your reactions (Brain of Mensis), ALL, Top Notch! Most People get that feeling after completing their first Soulsborne game. Typically, People jump back in, which is EXACTLY what you did! You can't get enough. Take your time on the next Souls game. They are just as epic. I strongly suggest doing them in order (or an abbreviated version, Dark Souls 1 Remastered, Dark Souls 3 then Elden Ring). No matter the time it takes, I will watch these type, of games. Brador was drinking "Lead Elixir" making any attacks "bounce" off. It is a consumable and restricts your movement drastically yet improves defense, a whole lot. Great Catch on Master Willem's chair/office! and finally meeting PATCHES!! "What is friendship but a chance encounter", brilliant! No Matter, You shall meet him MANY more times, in your journeys! Gab Smolders has back up computers for her back up computer. Since she is Full Time, her downloads, to TH-cam, take FAR less time. She is Awesome! However, I sometimes prefer Part Timers more, due to the gaming "burnout" which inevitably happens. Gab somehow makes mostly ALL of her productions with the right amount, of excitement. Enough about that. Point being please take your time, with your vids. Creativity is best enjoyed with the proper amount, of time given! You do this well! Thanks for ALL your work you put in, for this amazing playthrough. You are a super smart individual and I really love your style, with your work. You are kind and sensitive and portray that, in your narration. One can really feel your white aura, through all the screens! Cheers from Angel 53, from across the Pond. Oh and Symbalily is an Awesome name! OK, "We're finished", for now!

This let's play, was clearly one of the best. And I am sure even the developpers themselves would be very happy to see someone like this go through their games.
The challenge of games are enjoyable by all, but many people fear it, afraid of how people would react to them struggling, or afraid of thinking to themselves that they just suck too much. But a challenging game is not just hard. It makes you feel like you can do it. That it's not impossible, and that the process of beating it, is, in itself, fun.

Omg this run back to the Laurence fight is downright hilarious. Such good laughs. Edit 1: The worst thing about Bloodborne is having to farm for Blood Vials. I love the music in the Laurence fight it's soooo freaking good! You almost had it on that third attempt, Darn! Edit 2: "Thank you for Lavaling the floor, I appreciate it!" Had me rolling!!! OMG lol, Great job killing Laurence in 4 tries!!

This will be the third comment I've left on one of your Bloodborne videos. Probably my fourth or fifth comment ever on TH-cam, after around a decade or so of using the site.
Came here for Bloodborne, it was fun to see a fellow first timer making their way through. Subscribed and stayed for Amber. Your attitude to the games you play, your inquisitiveness and your unique design perspective, it's infectious and makes me want to play this game all over again. I cannot wait to explore the rest of your content. What a fantastic channel and host.

So happy to see others enjoy Bloodborne as much as me its my favorite game. Years later even after platinuming the game I still jump into the chalice dungeons. My soulsborne experience started with Bloodborne, then Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls Remastered after that and I don't regret any part of it. I'd also recommend the Nioh games too!

Congrats Amber! I immensely enjoyed your playthrough of the game. The way you see Bloodborne's world and its design is so entertaining and insightful, even to those who played the game multiple times before. Your grasp of the lore from just playing the game is admirable too, usually players just end up cruising through the game with no understanding of the lore. About lore, if you want to read what's probably the most detailed Bloodborne lore document, check out "The Paleblood Hunt" by Redgrave (it's a google doc). It covers the entire in-game Bloodborne and the most popular speculations and will likely answer your remaining questions. There's a superb narration of it by Jay Britton on youtube as well, if you wanted to listen to an audiobook-esque version instead.
Excited to see you play other FromSoft titles and Hollow knight! Thank you for the awesome playthrough, absolutely loved it!

Currently watching your Dark Souls playthrough, going super well!

Congratulations on beating BB for the first time. It was fun following you on your journey through it. Hope you continue on and have fun playing NG+'s on your own time - and Dungeons as well (although they're a bit less fun, but some bosses are awesome). If you wanna look more into lore, there's a whole bunch of sources, but I reckon a good place to start is The Paleblood Hunt by Redgrave. Just bear in mind that it's all in good fun. If you have your own theories and head canon, don't let anyone tell you that you're wrong. It's mostly theories and head canon on everyone's part.

"Why do I feel like that was the bad ending" That's the fun part, there is no good endings in Soulsborne games. It's all different levels of morally questionable choices. Even the closest to "good" endings definitely aren't good for everyone.

I’m so glad TH-cam recced this series to me! -
I’ve watched a bunch of Bloodborne let’s plays, notably the ones by the Game Grumps and Jack Septic Eye because I love the story but epically suck at the game itself 😂 - honestly, your playthru is my favorite so far! Not only are you preternaturally good at this game, but you also just seem like a genuinely nice and cool person that I can’t help but root for!
I will definitely be watching more from your channel! Your playthrus of Dark Souls, Subnautica, and Hollow Knight are already in my cue 👍

Dont stop here keep going down the rabbit hole with Dark Souls, Sekiro, and Elden ring :D If you want to get everything give New Game+ a go too on your own some time, its honestly where the difficulty gets picked up lol. Glad you had a blast hope to see more!

Enjoyed this way more then other playthroughs by other players, thank you. As a conceptartist I enjoyed watching you appreciate the work of the art / assets etc. Actually I wouldnt have minded a playthrough where you'd go into technical detail, share what you know, what you want to learn from the game and such, I think your job background is a seldom quality among streamers. Needles to say you give off a very comfy, humble vibe on top and it was fun to watch you go from stumbling to counterqueen. Hope to see more art on you A.station soon ;)

My favorite part of the series was the fact that I stumbled upon your play through as I coincidentally had just started my very first play through myself. It was really fun going through an area or defeating a boss and then coming to watch you experience it. Obviously not everything happened in the same order for me and I most certainly wasn’t as good as you 😂 but it was really cool to play this game and have this experience and I can’t believe I beat my first fromsoft game!

Congratulations on beating bloodborne! It also ranks as one of my favorite games ever, the mood it sets, the actual gameplay itself, the really fun Lovecraftian story in it, all really really great. I’m really looking forward to whenever they do the remaster/remake, not just because higher frame rate etc… which of course will be nice, but because it’ll give me another excuse to revisit such an amazing world.
My standout for your playthrough was just how much you really got immersed into the game, your attention to the worlds details and truly wondrous attitude in each area made every episode a genuine joy to watch!
It’s been so great watching you dive into each area and truly improve in your play style! You became really good at parying, which not a ton of people are, so well done there!
I think you’ll like other fromsoft games, but they are generally much more slow paced in combat. But the basics of the games are very similar. Plus level design concepts are as well.
Really excited for you RDR2 playthrough, it’s another incredibly big game, but it’s really well done. Fantastic story and great characters abound. Plus a hollow knight playthrough will be great as well! It’s a shorter game (comparatively) so I think it will do well alongside a big long one like red dead.
Anyway thanks for all the really great content! Always a true joy to see a new video show up! Keep on being awesome!

Your comment about finishing the game as a beast . . . i just realized that would actually be very fitting, since when you fight Gascoigne, he says there are beasts all over the shop, and that you'd become one of them. Other NPCs say similar things as well throughout the game.

    Heyhey!
Superlate to the party, but the TH-cam algorithm has blessed me with a video from this playthrough and after watching a little bit I then proceeded to binge it all in a few sittings cause I loved it 😊
It was wonderful to see you experience the game for the first time and whilst I don't have a particular favourite moment off the top of my head, in general I really appreciate the way you immersed into it and took everything in like the environments, item descriptions, connected the dots with lore... You've connected bits of lore in one go around that took me several playthroughs and watching some other playthroughs, so I'm really amazed how full this first experience was in that respect! And it was very enjoyable to see how the combat clicked with your playstyle and you really flew through some fights after getting the mechanics down. I'm so sorry that some people were very petty about how you played the game and that it affected you at times, but I'm very happy that overall it didn't sour your first experience with this game.
Anyways, seeing as I'm more than a year late to this playthrough, there's a good chance you won't see it. However, on the off chance this does reach you, I just wanted to let you know that I very much enjoyed watching you experience Bloodborne for the first time. Now I'll hop onto more recent stuff and watch you kick ass in Dark Souls! 😄

Rolling credits on your first From Soulsborne game is such a special feeling, we all go in worried that it'll be too much, that we're not up to the challenge but once you get through the first few hurdles and your mindset adjusts to what the game wants from you it becomes enjoyable and fascinating and then when the credits roll there is a release and then... The Hunger for more sets in.
I'd definitely recommend Sekiro, I think it'd suit the skillset you built up in BB better than Elden Ring.
