49:00 classic helicopter blowing it self up bug. You're supposed to fight the helicopter like you thought, but some times it fires it rockets to the cliff too close to it self and self terminates. 😋
I'm enjoying your playthrough very much! Glad you decided to play this great game! Here are some tips for you to better understand some aspects of the game: 1. Your rocketlauncher (RPG) is laser guided. Once you shoot the rocket it will follow your laserpointer. You can turn the laser on and off with the alternate firemode (mouse 2). 2. That laser gun with the "bowling ball" ammo is called Tau-Cannon. It can be charged up to deal more damage. hold the alternate fire button to charge it up and let go off the button to fire. Don't charge it for too long (way longer than when it's already fully charged) or it will discharge and deal damage to yourself. 3. You can destroy tanks by shooting their gunturret with explosives or a fully charged up shot form the Tau-Cannon. I think normal bullets work, too but I these tanks have too much health so I recommend using stronger weapons. You can also shoot down helicopters with the Tau-Cannon. 4. You can use the Crossbow to snipe enemies from the distance. The darts are deadly and deal great damage. Once you shoot your dart will have some travel time before it hits so try to prioritise non-moving targets when using the crossbow in singleplayer. In Half-Life Multiplayer crossbow darts hit right away when you zoom in (they removed the travel time for multiplayer). Use the alternate firemode to use the scope to zoom. 5. The standard pistol also has two firemodes. The primary firemode (mouse 1) shoots slowly but with 100% accuracy. The primary firemode (mouse 2) shoots faster but with reduced accuracy. Your manual click speed won't affect the accuracy of your pistol. 6. going to the crouch position takes a short moment of time so it helps to press and hold jump and crouch almost at the same time to pull your legs up while in mid air and jump further than by just using normal jumps. 7. Half-Life maps have a bit unprecise collisions around corners so try not to move too close around them. These problems can be prevented when creating custom maps and mods with modern level editors and compile tools and Valve updated Half-Life 1 very often but I don't think they fixed these collision problems in Half-Life singleplayer with any patch yet. ...also your dog is really cute :)
Great job, Amber! That's just how the game goes when you play the first time - getting blown up, falling, getting stuck on some unknown object, figuring out where to go, doing everything over - all part of the fun 😄
“I know what to do,” said Amber while throwing herself off a cliff into a dry pit on the wrong side of the dam. That has to be one of the most hilarious moments of this series so far, I couldn’t stop laughing. Just amazing, I can’t wait for more!
So a couple quick tips. 1. Explore the right click features of all your weapons. From memory I believe there are only 4 weapons you get that don't have a right click feature. One is the snarks, and you've already found them. The second is the gluon gun which you have not found yet. The third and fourth are grenades and trip mines. Everything else as I recall has a secondary (right click) fire mode. For example, the bag bombs, right clicking allows you to drop more bag bombs out even if you already have one deployed (they all trigger when you push the button though). The crossbow zooms in and works like a sniper gun. Even the pistol has a right click mode that fires rapidly at the cost of accuracy. 2. You can destroy the vehicles like the tank and the helicopters. It takes more than a single hit from the RPG to do it though. Also the RPG is lazer guided so you have to keep the lazer on the target. You can disable this by right clicking which means the rocket will fly to wherever you target. Rockets tend to be a scarce commodity. And the game bugged and despawned the helicopter you were meant to fight when you first got the RPG so you didn't have a fight to learn the tactics. 3. Don't be afraid to slow down and work things through. Sometimes taking a second look without rushing can help you find a solution. In your play through you have already solve a couple encounters in a different way than I typically do in my play throughs. As it said on the original game box, Run THINK shoot live! :) 4. Don't be afraid to explore. As you have found, there are a ton of weapons, ammo, health, and battery caches in the game. They are often off the beaten path. You're play though has been great fun to watch. And it looks like you're having fun playing. Enjoy the ride. I got this game in 98 when it came out and it is still my favorite shooter of all time.
Well said. What's most frustrating is she's completely stacked with ammo and doesn't use any weapons. Especially the hive gun is so OP and DOESN'T USE AMMO :D She used it almost never. Also the bees have auto targetting. Especially useful against snarks. The secondary of the hive gun also does rapid fire without targetting, so you have to aim yourself. Though the secondary are a bit stronger and can actually destroy objects (crates and stuff like that). The hive gun has 8 shots which slowly recharge. So you have unlimited ammo. Agree, HL1 is also one of my fav. shooters. Though after HL I mostly played Quake3 online :) Though we did play HLDM (Half-life deathmatch) and this is where I actually got my nickname. We used to play crossfire and I always grabbed the longjump module and jumping around like a bunny. I was too fast for the tanks in the towers :) I also practised bunnyhopping and strafe jumping a lot. Though it's much easier in Q3. Back during our Lan-Party time (1999-2005) we always finished the weekend with a round 16 vs 16 TFC dustbowl. Pure carnage :D After 2005 it kinda died out. We had I think15 Lan-parties during that time with about 120 people. It was in southern germany and we called it VerLANgen (== longing, craving, desire). Unfortunately the website doesn't exist anymore, but the wayback machine still has an old version :) Pure nostalgia.
Far out! That's why I am enjoying watching her play also! I remember playing the Uplink! demo from a magazine in 98. I was blown away. The game came out one a bit later in 99 (great year for games might I add) but it's by far my best first person experience! Loved the game throughout the series and we all know the rest. This lady defo needs to explore the second trigger finger a lot more haha!
@@Bunny99s Half life had some fun multiplayer maps like bounce and boot camp. People sucked at playing the game properly, that's why it never caught on like quake and others around my neck of the woods
@@fibophi239 Well, even though the gold source engine is based on idTech2 (Quake2) it has some quite unique movement features. Have you ever played TFC Conc maps? Some of them are brutally hard. I was never really a conc-er but it was still fun. In some sense the Q3 mod "DeFRaG" would be the continuation of conc maps. Defrag world championship is still going on to this day

You managed to avoid the large battle with military grunts at the end of Questionable Ethics in the lobby where the scientist lets you outside, I think because you didn't take the short way back but instead went back the way you came. Funny!
Honestly, her viewership is low because of that reason. A lot of people that grew up with these games are old heads (40+) which just doesn’t do well on these platforms.
@@jarrettath9636 The views seem fine for the channel. Even better than many others. Half Life is not some random older game, it's one of the most well known, most influential games the industry ever produced. Everyone heard of the game, even if he hasn't played it. I doubt Half Life of all games would be a reason for low view numbers, which it isnt, compared to how the channel usually does
@@jarrettath9636 She has played _a lot_ of modern stuff, but I hope she keeps playing old games and even old games that aren't well-known (in contrast to big names like Silent Hill and Half-Life) regardless of what viewcounts she gets. It's better that way. She should double down on it. Streamers etc who only play games they think will maximize views and/or play games just because they're currently popular and are what they perceive as "expected of them" to play (that _"well, all the other big sponsored streamers are playing this so I should too"_ mentality many have) are really extremely boring. They're only not-boring to NPCs addicted to slop and very young individuals. And whenever they play less popular games or less popular versions of games it's not only more interesting but also it's _based_ of them. If she'd chosen to play Black Mesa instead of the real Half-Life, that wouldn't have been anywhere near as interesting and wouldn't have been based at all. And she wouldn't have gotten the proper HL experience (naturally playing HL for the first time now isn't the same as when it was new, but I mean simply that HL is HL and playing BM would be a different experience).
Perfect timing, I just commented that I can't wait for the next video to come out and here it is! I love this series, I hope you enjoyed playing the game.
Right click can turn on and off the zoom on the crossbow and the targeting laser on the rocket launcher. Th rocket launcher and the laser can destroy tanks and helicopters, it just takes a while.
Really surprised how much the game is glitching with the scripted special moments on modern systems. Drop from the big pipe on the table with the health packs kills more often than not. Gargantua doesn't agro. Train drop into the water kills through collision error. Underwater barrels unlock by themselves. (Or don't unlock even though hit.) Helicopter doesn't spawn on reload. Doors don't open. At least it seems to be nothing game breaking that reloading can't fix, but still.
It's partly because of the way she's playing. Constantly dashing forward past things or turning around and running away, especially back and forth between loading zones. HL1 scripting can be a bit fragile, it can bug out pretty easily with the right behaviour.
Fun episode. You play way better than I used to, only observation I have is that numbers 1-5 are shortcuts for weapon switching, e.g. shotgun is 3-3-click regardless of what's equipped, eventually the weapon switches become muscle memory.
You can destroy the vehicles with the rocket launcher, it just sometimes takes multipe hits. It has a guided rocket that follows the laser (so if you duck behind a wall after firing the rocket the rocket will turn around to try and hit where you aimed the rocket because the laser pointer is now pointing at the wall). You can turn off the guided rockets with the secondary fire button and the rocket will just fly in a straight line.
55:32 - Another random game design note. 🙃 Vehicle design is one area where Valve didn't do great in HL1. Objects in this game are either destructible or invulnerable, and there's no standard visual 'hint' about which is which. For tanks, there's no clear change after hitting them for the first time that shows you're causing damage. This leads to the mistaken assumption among players that they're invulnerable, and they think they're supposed to run past. This was a lesson learned for HL2, where you see the clear damage you cause right after getting the big weapon in the first 'helicopter ' sequence.
Maybe back in the day we had a lot more patience to try things out? I certainly did not decide something was invulnerable after firing a single rocket at it. Maybe after twenty rockets, I would have assumed so. But we were coming from games like Doom and Quake, where rockets were plentiful and quickly fired, and we carried about 50 or 100 of them. Btw. I was curious enough to find out whether I can destroy a tank with a crowbar. Yes, it is possible, it just takes a lot of time.
You can destroy the helicopter with the energy weapon. Both with single blows and with charging. Try charging the energy weapon please with the secondary fire/right button, its really fun. Also if you duck and move, you will crawl. Helps with moving through narrow passages next to an abyss.
Evil game lol, yup you're right about that, still comedy gold 10/10 Rockets would have killed the tanks & apcs etc (I think even the big gargantuans technically take damage from explosives and the tau/laser cannon? Which also does damage to armored stuff) problem is it takes multiple direct hits and so it's easy to think on a first playthrough with the nonexistent damage feedback on tanks and such that you're not doing anything when shooting them. The bee gun (hivehand) is super underrated by many HL fans, because to me it becomes a crowbar replacement for dealing with headcrabs, zombies, barnacles, ichtyosaurs (though that might be more a Black Mesa thing?), and of course the snarks (the "fleas") are good to drop down into pits where enemies are all busy fighting each other just like you did a few times. Kind of dreading Xen :( That's where the fun will start to wane... Fingers crossed still comedy gold though.
Surface Tension was definitely my least favorite chapter when I played the game for the first time a couple years ago. It still has some pretty cool moments though
Loving seeing someone playing my childhood! SO many fond memories...🙂Best advise i can give...... Treasure your 'Crowbar'! Use it for ALL 'Quiet Area' Enemy's... Including the guys on the ceiling! 😁 If your still having ladder issues....Walk into the ladder with your view piont at a 45 degree angle so it clearly set's whether your going up or down...The old games were Fersnickety😉 P.s. Burst fire the 'smg' 😁 1Hr in "Are there mines here?" 🤣 P.p.s. Not sure if your playing Keyboard or controller....But this game was designed for keyboard use, if you can get used to playing keyboard you can use 'Left' hand to jump from movement to number keys to Quick Select weapons rather than scrolling through
Your laser gun (called Tau cannon, officially) can bounce shots from walls if fired at a low angle, and can penetrate through thinner walls (this is why there is a scene you can witness), and holding down the right trigger charges it for a very powerful shot. Also, if you aim downwards, you can launch yourself high into the air with it, and can get to some otherwise inaccessible secrets..
Press and hold right button with the Radioactive gun to amplify the power and then release. Press right button with the Crossbow to get a sniper scope. Press right button with the Rocket Launcher to turn on/off the laser guide.
Please save and test your guns, you are missing their secondary fire right click, the bazooka has laser guided missiles they go were your are pointing so if you shoot and go back a wall your laser is pointing the wall, you shut doen the laser with right click, tanks will take a couple of rockest to take down.
13:38 "someone got to be the last survivor" - not if the marine shot an underbarrel grenade right into the face of the alien grunt. The explosion could be clearly heard.
I was afraid you might have skipped the Gargantua chase down the tunnel. It had been so long since I played this game, I thought that part happened with it's first appearance in that previous level. I think that's my favorite part of the whole game. It was so creative how they designed it.
@24:47 If you die, you will automatically respawn at your most recent save point, whether it's a quicksave, or an auto-save. But if you quickload, it always loads from your quicksave location, even if you have a more recent auto-save. If you want to force loading from a more recent auto-save, you have to load it manually from the menu.
Use the alt fire on the shotgun (two shot burst) the rpg (disables laser guidance so you can shoot and duck) and the hive hand (unguided bees that fire faster). You can kill all the tanks with a couple rpgs. Other guns kill them but just take longer. You can even crowbar them to death but will take damage when they blow. Be sure to use the hive hand when you want to conserve ammo since it recharges.
She's very self-deprecating in that British way so she'll never admit it, but Amber has seriously become good at KB + mouse, very quickly. It takes skill to bunny hop across the broken plank bridge, and she did it twice!
You should play Baldurs gate 3 , it's one of the best games I've ever played, you'd be really missing out, it's such an amazing game. I think you would fall in love with it.
1:18:25 Yes, you could have used the rocket launcher to destroy that vehicle, but you left the laser seeking on (right click), so as soon as you ran back, the rocket flew haywire. Either turn the seeker off, or if you have it on, you have to keep the target in your crosshair.
When you are using rocket launcher, rockets are following red dot, so you need to keep it on your target. Also if one rocket doesnt f up tank, more will do
If you want to shoot your rockets quickly while ducking behind cover, you should turn off the laser by right clicking. In fact, you should right click all of your weapons. Also, you should be able to destroy the tanks.
Hints: The weapons under Group 4 are your "Heavy" weapons - good for taking out vehicles, helicopters and armored or difficult enemies. You can destroy mines with grenades and by shooting the ground. Use the RMB with crossbow to zoom in for mo accuracy. Enjoying the playthrough and chuffed you reached my favourite HL1 level! And I understand if you forget how some mechanics (like secondary fire) work out that they are there, there is a lot going on and from one week or session to the next, it can be easy to forget things
Surface Tension was easily my least favorite chapter of this game on my first playthrough. By the end of it, I was totally burned out and just kinda ran through the rest of the game as fast as I could. After playing the game a second and third time, it's one of my favorite chapters now.
Yes you wete ment to blow the tanks up with the rocket launcher 😂 it just takes more than one rocket. Also use your weapons secondary action with right click. The laser gun charges into a powerful shot that can take out even tanks and heli. Your crossbow is your sniper rifle. When using the rocket launcher, the rocket follows the red laser, its great for fighting helicopters. You can turn the laser off with right click, making it more useful for other scenarios.
If you love Half-life you should check a game called Abiotic factor. It's like Half-life without Gordon Freeman but survival and multiplayer if you want.
"ARE there mines here?", 0.5 seconds later: "Yes." Hilarious. You should do a speedrun reaction video to "half-life done quick" after you finish the game. And play HL2 of course.
Press jump if you want ladder to let you go. I mean.....its not like "blink if you are in danger". Literally jump.....well....not literally. Dont jump. Just press space. Sorry🙄. Bye.

IKR, the second game clearly deviates from the original plot and therefore can't be canon. It's very much a Disney Star Wars sequel.
I'm enjoying your playthrough very much! Glad you decided to play this great game!
Here are some tips for you to better understand some aspects of the game:

One is the snarks, and you've already found them. The second is the gluon gun which you have not found yet. The third and fourth are grenades and trip mines.

You so cute and entertaining such joy watching you still havin fun with this game ^^
You can destroy the helicopter with the energy weapon. Both with single blows and with charging. Try charging the energy weapon please with the secondary fire/right button, its really fun. Also if you duck and move, you will crawl. Helps with moving through narrow passages next to an abyss.
Evil game lol, yup you're right about that, still comedy gold 10/10
Rockets would have killed the tanks & apcs etc (I think even the big gargantuans technically take damage from explosives and the tau/laser cannon?
This was such a fun and high octane episode!
Def a highly entertaining watch seeing you play through one of the greatest video games in history. 🙂 Here's hoping you play Black Mesa next.
If your still having ladder issues....Walk into the ladder with your view piont at a 45 degree angle so it clearly set's whether your going up or down...The old games were Fersnickety😉
P.s. Burst fire the 'smg' 😁
1Hr in "Are there mines here?" 🤣
P.p.s. Not sure if your playing Keyboard or controller....But this game was designed for keyboard use,
if you can get used to playing keyboard you can use 'Left' hand to jump from movement to number keys to Quick Select weapons rather than scrolling through
IIRC the alternate fire on the alien gun shoots a bunch at once.
The Helicopter can in fact be shot down with the Gauss-canon. Hold down alt-fire to charge up a shot.
Ah my favorite time travel experience. What antics did 12 year old us go through
32:30 There was only water on that side of the dam after your interaction in the pump station. All was working as designed.
You jumping on the dry side of the dam was the funniest thing! But god you not even trying to kill that chopper stressed me the most
Please save and test your guns, you are missing their secondary fire right click, the bazooka has laser guided missiles they go were your are pointing so if you shoot and go back a wall your laser is pointing the wall, you shut doen the laser with right click, tanks will take a couple of rockest to take down.
6:20, 6:27, 8:36 Lllets Goooee😅
"Are there mines here?"
💥
😌
Little tip : you can safely pass a laser mine by walking on the mine.
You have to hit the tank with multiple rockets to destroy it. Not one lol
1:18:25 Yes, you could have used the rocket launcher to destroy that vehicle, but you left the laser seeking on (right click), so as soon as you ran back, the rocket flew haywire. Either turn the seeker off, or if you have it on, you have to keep the target in your crosshair.
"THERE'S NO WATER IN THIS BIT!"
(BTW, the water on the downstream side appeared when you opened the drains.)
You have better ranged weapons than the pistol. The crossbow has a scope. Press the right mouse button.
Puppers circling in the beginning!!!!
There was a weird bug on the Surface tension map where all pickups disappeared. Never seen anything like that.
Wonderful episode.
It occurs to me that a Tank might take more than one rocket to blow up. It might take several.
Episode 5 was posted 5 days ago, awesome
30:00 there's no wataaah in this bit hjahahaha
Hints: The weapons under Group 4 are your "Heavy" weapons - good for taking out vehicles, helicopters and armored or difficult enemies.
You can destroy mines with grenades and by shooting the ground.
Use the RMB with crossbow to zoom in for mo accuracy.
Enjoying the playthrough and chuffed you reached my favourite HL1 level! And I understand if you forget how some mechanics (like secondary fire) work out that they are there, there is a lot going on and from one week or session to the next, it can be easy to forget things
They’re like pugs, an army of pugs!
39:09 unknown situations often are stressful.
Armored vehicles require more than one rocket to disable.
22:00 o7
Amazing videos
You can charge up the laser gun with secondary fire for a powerful single shot
So sad she might have already finished the game by the time this is out, I wonder if she ever found out about the right trigger for most guns
The bow works well as a sniper in case you need it
awesome
You look like Aerith! 🤗
I can see that she does kinda look like her.
No she is her
There is only one wrong way to play this game...the way that gets you killed everytime.
Surface Tension was easily my least favorite chapter of this game on my first playthrough. By the end of it, I was totally burned out and just kinda ran through the rest of the game as fast as I could.
After playing the game a second and third time, it's one of my favorite chapters now.
The burnout is real!
8:57 im dead hahahah
22:02 With friends like you... 😄
Don't be afraid to slow down a little and take stock. Half-Life isn't really a run-and-gun shooter--it rewards planning and execution over reflexes.
Please try all the weapons secondary fire, there is many surprise!
"I know what to do!"
... Leaps blindly over a cliff
P.S. The water appeared because you turned the turbine on.
They're Space Pugs. 😅
I'm watching a video of you playing the game, but I keep having the urge to quicksave.
Please use the Rocket launchers on the tanks and armored gun vehicles. :) You have to hit them on the moving gun part. :)
You became so serious playing this, comparing to the first video 😅
If you love Half-life you should check a game called Abiotic factor. It's like Half-life without Gordon Freeman but survival and multiplayer if you want.
1:00:20 Savage!
"ARE there mines here?", 0.5 seconds later: "Yes."
Hilarious.
You should do a speedrun reaction video to "half-life done quick" after you finish the game. And play HL2 of course.
Surface Tension is my lovely chapter
And you skipped several places with ammo and medikits
Tanks can be destroyed, even by crossbar =)
Also play Half-Life Opposing Force and Blue-Shift!
maybe shoot the tanks 2 times with the rocket launcher?
The shotgun and assault rifle really aren't ideal at longer ranges, should use the magnum, crossbow, or if those are low on ammunition, the pistol.
Press jump if you want ladder to let you go. I mean.....its not like "blink if you are in danger". Literally jump.....well....not literally. Dont jump. Just press space. Sorry🙄. Bye.
Yay , it's storytime 😊
