I used to be huge on the k series (I am midway thru a k20 turbo swap in my lotus 7) but think an LS would have been cheaper. Just the number of v8 parts that are out there has driven the prices down in many areas. I paid $1k for the engine but then you add adapters, ecu’s,harnesses etc and it’s almost a $8-10k swap. That said- the manual v8 transmission is rarely a cheap option
I’m building a B18c4 Mk2 Golf, Hondas especially over here in the uk were always mocked... unless you had owned one! I love the way a Honda engine feels, their gearboxes are inspiring compared to other cars of similar cost. And then there’s Vtec, meme of car memes but it does put a smile on our faces 😂
You forgot to go over the fact that if you have a k24 block and a k20 head with a rsx type s k 20 oil pump.. you can have the low end torque, and the high end power all together.. mine made 273 with drag cartel 3.2 cams and Wiseco 11:1 compression..
I would love to see you guys build a Factory Five 818 with a k24 and type S trans. Looked at a lot of pictures, I think with minimal cutting of the chassis you could get it to sit in there transverse... If I didn't already have 5 projects going I would probably be ordering a kit to this myself.

boosted boiz is using 2 k24 engines in 2 different mr2s, the white one makes around 1000hp. It is a respectable engine, you get it all, power, fun, torque, reliability and it is affordable :)
Hear me out.... ek hatch, mid mounted k with B series awd gearbox(backwards), driving a flipped r200 in the front. I've wanted to do this forever but don't have the resources . Also not sure how the B would like being driven backwards, but I'd imagine it should work 🙂
I love you guys, but I gotta disagree on the K series sound. Most of the clips in your vid there were of dedicated tracks cars with barely any muffling in the exhaust, so of course anything would be overtly loud and raspy, no matter the engine layout. I think B series are WAY raspier than a K series - K series is deeper and sounds like it has, for lack of a better word, more “beef” behind it. I mean, it’s all a matter of preference at the end of the day; what you guys like may not be what I, or other people like. One of the reason why I bought my FA5 was because of the K series sound! And the general performance of it of course (and budget lol). Keep up the good work though 💪
I want to build a k24 ND Miata. I'm just now starting college for mechanical engineering, so it will be quite a wait. I'm going to be careful and save my money.
Guys, check out BoostedBois out of Colorado. They are the K-junkies, and not like the ones we remember stumbling and mumbling back in college. These guys do some crazy stuff, 1000hp MR2 K swapped drag car, K swapped STI (Hondaru) with 700+hp and sequential shifter. I'm sure you've seen their stuff.
Another thing you can do is take a K24 and swap K20 parts onto it to combine the low end torque of the K24 and high revving nature of the K20. I might have that backwards..
I don't really understand power vs displacement. Unless you are getting taxed heavily by your government for the size of your engine. Which I wouldn't think would be an issue with a swapped car. To me the only number that matters is power vs weight of the engine and where the engine carries most of that weight. This is what makes the LS nearly unbeatable.
power to displacement is irrelevant. power to weight and power to physical size is what's important. looks like the K motor can have better weight distribution for FR cars vs. the LS, and it might be easier to package too in some cars. The LS might be cheaper and more abundant in some instances, also not sure if Honda offers K20/24 crate motors.
Hey guys, what do you think about a k swap in a 91 isuzu pickup truck? That's my plan in the near future. Thanks again for the info on this k swap video. 😀
This definitely seems like the go to motor for transverse setups, or anything where you can't fit an LS. For longitudinal where they fit, the LS still has the K beat handily in terms of power per dollar. That $8k for a 300whp K motor would get you a 500bhp LS3 crate engine straight from GMPP.
Why would you waste 8k on a crate engine. Stalk the junkyards. Its not a sema build. An Aluminum 6.0 CAN be found in the junkyard for 200 USD at my junkyard. You're not entirely likely to find them, but you can find the iron 6.0s and aluminum 5.3s all day for the most part. Cheap shit.
@@benbauer1257 Yeah definitely. Same as you can find reasonably cheap K motors as they were saying. LS handily wins power per dollar no matter what comparison you make. I was just comparing new engine to new engine because that's what they gave numbers for.
oh men i couldn't say it better seriously... & the perfect combo k24 block with k20 head. OMG speechless... just like the old B series with the B18 block with the B16 head nice !!
I can certainly see that if you have something like a 1.6L engine how going up to a 2.4L engine has a lot of appeal, the increase in torque (especially on a light vehicle) is going to make a huge difference. That is without having to go to forced induction in order to make decent power (for a small light vehicle).
How difficult would it likely be to put a K Series engine and manual transmission until a 1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite. It currently has a 2.0 Pinto engine in it but I blew a valve/cam/piston so I'm trying to figure out if I should fix that or swap to something like this.
My man I have a stock 04 k24a2 block with a stock 04 stock k20a2 head in a 92 civic hatchback dx with a rsx type s 6 speed manual transmission rbc intake rdx injectors on e85 making almost 300hp

I'm in the process of rebuilding my EP3 Civic track car engine. Keeping the 2.0 displacement, but revs, lots of revs and lightweight everything!
No doubting the torque of the K24 is a benefit, but I'm hoping for a response monster.
Better be putting some monster final drive in it to get the most of those revs
@@tomasbegley3032 I changed from the 4.7 to the 5.1. It made a massive difference.
I took my "adrenaline junky" friend in a ride in my gutted k20 integra, and he said every gear feels like a slingshot, this could be attributed to the older 60a hasport mounts, but yea, every gear feels like a "slingshot" is very accurate.
Re-watching this and I really miss your 240. It's such a good looking backdrop car for videos like this. But I get it, too many builds to keep them all.
One of the most unique questions in a historical and technical way
Two years ago my good buddy told me to K swap my e36 over LS swapping it and looking back now sometimes I wish I gave the K a chance, especially for the uniqueness of it all
Did you put in the LS?
Wow right of the bat the quality of this video struck me.
Great job guys!! Keep it up!!
Edit: I'd love to see the k motor italian stallion and i think it would do wonders for the channel!
B series will always have a special place in my heart even though K is far superior. Just nostalgia sake!
Exactly
I used to be huge on the k series (I am midway thru a k20 turbo swap in my lotus 7) but think an LS would have been cheaper. Just the number of v8 parts that are out there has driven the prices down in many areas. I paid $1k for the engine but then you add adapters, ecu’s,harnesses etc and it’s almost a $8-10k swap.
That said- the manual v8 transmission is rarely a cheap option
This question was asked and answered over a decade ago the answer is yes
for a soulful sound out of an inline 4 i think the 4age with itbs is one of the best especially the 20v ones.
Just imagine if Honda added just more 2 cylinders and made a straight 6, I bet it would be better then a 2JZ or at least on par with it
Really enjoying the videos as new subscriber. Keep up the great work and cheers from the US
Thanks for the words of encouragement and welcome!
I'm curious, what's the American car scene like over there? e.g. mustangs, corvette, mopar, F150's?
Having a normal conversation: “something something seriously...” Siri: “I’ve been summoned”. Happens every time
You forgot to go over the fact that if you have a k24 block and a k20 head with a rsx type s k 20 oil pump.. you can have the low end torque, and the high end power all together.. mine made 273 with drag cartel 3.2 cams and Wiseco 11:1 compression..
Please, someone give these guys a Ferarri!
Honda is better than Ferrari. Don’t have to worry about door dings.
They millionaires they can buy one
Please give me one instead.
I'm planning a k swap z3. I got a 4cyl with a rough engine. For cheap the k seems perfect for it.
I waiting on a K-swapped RX8 that didn't hack up the firewall.
Cheapie profilic chassis + cheapie prolific motor = combo made in heaven
I would love to see you guys build a Factory Five 818 with a k24 and type S trans. Looked at a lot of pictures, I think with minimal cutting of the chassis you could get it to sit in there transverse... If I didn't already have 5 projects going I would probably be ordering a kit to this myself.
I like the slight music in the background of this video. I was entertained. 👍🏻
K swap the world
♥️
Yes this whole segment was awesome! Love you guys and will always drive Honda. Have 2 currently
Ok you need to stop everything else and start the GTR Build!!!
@1:14 Humble Performance is awesome! They make great power on budget K motors.
Look forward to the k swap miata project, you guys should do it as a budget track car.
lol I couldn't tell if you were trolling Stance Works and their K swapped Ferrari 308 🤔 But then I saw the date this was uploaded....
Man, I'm shocked at how shitty CoronaChan has made even TH-cam vids. Honestly, seeing you guys back in the same room distinctly elevates the joy I get from watching. Thanks, and I hope you're well. I have a cheap-ish pet project resto-mod ideal for a K-swap... 1974 MG MGB GT. Light, sporting, a considerable aftermarket available... I can dream.
Comes down to personal preference. I don’t like the sound of 4 cylinders but I will not deny the versatility
this video came up on my feed, so I'll watch it again :)
You’ve got to do the 308 project
Gonna k24 swap my b5, full NA itb hooked up to the quattro is gonna be so awesome for the snow
Planning to do k24 awd mirage/evo. Awesome video guys
When it comes to exhaust size, i have an eg with k24a2 with 3 inch exhaust and it made 215 whp and 175 ft lbs of torque. I also have an ek with the exact same setup and mods but it has a 2.5 inch exhaust..the ek made 220 whp and 181 ft lbs of torque on the same dyno.
could the difference in transmissions, tires and axles played a part?
boosted boiz is using 2 k24 engines in 2 different mr2s, the white one makes around 1000hp.
Also not sure how the B would like being driven backwards, but I'd imagine it should work 🙂
Speed academy is the reason i bought a s14 to k swap and is close to being done by july should be over 1000whp
You guys always have such good info! Love the content keep it up guys.
@StanceWorks started their K24 Swap a Ferrari 308 project a few weeks ago
I'm guessing the k swap is better than a f22c because of cost and parts availability?
As a 1st gen and 2nd gen acura tsx owner, the K24 is soooo easy to work on and very reliable.
K24 swapped MR2 please!! Either AW11 or SW20 would be awesome. They getting kinda cheap!
porsche swap. i saw one at a import show video and the power and weight balance is brilliant.
You can also say the F20C engines are versatile as well for swaps.
Thank you Rover/ British Leyland
I love the K swap Ferrari idea. I want to do the same with a Lancia Montecarlo.
StanceWorks started their k swap Ferrari project a few weeks ago
@@tomturner3394 I've been following that build. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Another thing you can do is take a K24 and swap K20 parts onto it to combine the low end torque of the K24 and high revving nature of the K20. I might have that backwards..
If the engine in my focus RS blows I was considering swapping a 4g63, but a K swap may be realistic.
A focus RS revving to almost 10K with a tuned K20 would be incredible.
I'm gonna k swap my 94 toyota celica after watching this thanks for the video.
K swapped Lotus Esprit from the 1980’s. The original engine was less than durable but plenty powerful for the day.
I’m gonna invest in a K motor for a rainy day in case my F20C blows up lmao
I'm thinking I should probably do the same lol.
I was hoping for a K swap W30 mr2. Longer wheel base than a S2k and a better power to weight ratio.
you guys have done it again.. another grate vid. ideas ideas...
A company in Ontario, Canada swaps K20A in sub-compact Fiat X1/9 !! What a pocket rocket!!
Love this video 😎👍🏾 very interesting and informative
I have a dream of k in a DMC delorean!
j series would be better for that
My man I have a stock 04 k24a2 block with a stock 04 stock k20a2 head in a 92 civic hatchback dx with a rsx type s 6 speed manual transmission rbc intake rdx injectors on e85 making almost 300hp
