Enjoy your videos! I also have a Honda CRV. 2002 AWD. By far the best car I have ever owned. I bought another CRV and was going to get rid of it but after watching your video I think I will keep it and convert it into a camper. Thank you for all the invaluable information you have shared.
I'm amazed that I already have almost ALL of the gadgets you have, including a CRV. Glad to see what you are using for trash, that was something I wanted to improve upon before I hit bear country. Love your stove, I'm going to check that out. Thx!!
Really cool CRV camper... Just happen to surf around TH-cam and came across your channel. I had a CRV too (original model back in 1997 ) . Had it for 19 years and it was stolen... Very unique car, trouble free for all 19 years except normal wear items. Wish I still had it and do just like yours... :-). Thank you for sharing your video and the tips... Keep them coming... Stay well and stay safe.
Thanks for your content. I was looking on thesame platform. 2nd gen Honda CRV, AWD so i can get out of sticky situations, mud, sand, icy roads.. i think this got to be the jack off all trades mini camper, next to the Honda Element… i love your content, and gives me great ideas on some cheaper alternatives. Like your DIY owning with those poles, that’s such a great idea. I also love fishing, it’s been my dream to live a life like this.. Get out from the city lifestyle, and spend more time with Nature.. I’m also into the FIRE 🔥 movement.. We don’t need so much stuffs in life, just basic items for survival, or maybe spend a little more for items/ things that your truly passionate. I call it “my guilt pleasure”. But i always try to limit myself, as humans, we like to own a lot of things, and end up hoarding. Which is not good in general, we should practice minimalism, like the Japanese. Having less carbon footprint, and we should all take care of our Home Planet Earth. We all live in thesame Home. Which also brings me the fire wood burner, that’s definitely on top of my list.. it’s really economical, also a big thing to point at it prevents accidental forest fires which happens a lot on some dry humid places… Solar power is also a way to go.. way to go brother!! Enjoy life and keep L.I.V.I.N !!!
Great gear you’re using, too bad some of your links are not working anymore, idk if items are no longer at Amazon store, great video, thanks for sharing
Thank you! I really like your videos....they are clear simple and effective. And just so you know, it is your honda that drag me to your videos! I will be doing my first car camping for real this summer with my honda civic probably. I might find a good CR-V till them but will see. Thank's again!
Dude, I think you resolved my side awning issue...thank you. I have a rear awning, 6feetx10feet (made for Jeeps) that extends from my rear hatch but when I remain in one spot for more than one night I would like to set up a side awning as well with a drop bug net. Your set up using PCP would be very inexpensive since I already have several tarps of various sizes. It's ingenious how you rigged yours. I have to figure out how to rig it around my rooftop cargo basket; should be simple. My lighting system consists of strings of 10 foot Luminoodle lights and they light up a good sized area. Jackery sells a dedicated bag for their power units but I use an old CPAP bag that is larger. Along with the Jackery I keep dedicated pouches for cords, one for Anker batteries, spare AA and AAA batteries, charger for my handheld ham radio. You and I must shop at the same (Amazon?) store...LOL. Two Luci lights light up my back hatch area and they stay on the lowest light mode most of the time and an Anker 20000mAH brick serves as the power source. A personal fan runs off the same Anker with my Luci lights. You probably have one and that is a portable battery jumper which can also be used to charge my phone or provide power for any item that has a USB cable. As far as bears I prefer to use a bear bag set up and hang any food products, toothpaste, creams and lotions ( that have a "sweet" odor) from a tree, four feet from the tree and at least 10 feet up off the ground; in grizzly country, get in your car and drive far away :). Good advice on the pee bottle. I hammock camp and getting out of a warm sleeping bag at o'dark thirty to take a piss...man, that sucks! For backpacking I take an "accordion" urinal that compacts to a very small size to fit in my pocket. Its capacity is 750ml, enough for a night, unless you have a huge bladder. Then you'll need a large nalgene bottle. Great video and your property is beautiful!
This video randomly came up in my TH-cam feed, and I am so glad! You seem like an incredibly likable, intelligent, easygoing, humane person, with great ideas! Years ago I had a 2006 CRV that I loved until I needed something different. I just recently got hold of a Toyota Sienna minivan that I am doing a “no build” camper conversion on, and I am beyond excited!! Thanks so much for the many great ideas & products (LOVE the awning as well as other items)!! Safe & happy travels to you 💐💐💐
Would like to see your conversion of your vehicle. I’m still searching and learning how to convert my trailblazer. Btw love the canopy you rigged up. Will definitely be doing that.
Chris!!! So glad you’re enjoying the videos, brother. The freedom out here makes me miss the trail more and more... hope all is well with you and the Mrs 💛
I got those mesh coverings last year, and today I ordered the window coverings for this coming camp season. Thanks for that info. Now I will order the Luci light. Going to be a lot more comfortable on my camping this coming summer.
I have been wondering if a lot of the van lifers I watch had had any encounters with wild life trying to get in their vehicles! Will definitely be getting some of those containers before hitting the road!
Do have a video on the window insulation covers you pulled off before showing the slip on mesh covers? I have a 01 crv and am stealth living in it. I'm working on a platform set up for sleeping and storage. One thing I think everyone who is camping/living in a vehicle is a portable car battery jump starter and starter fluid. It's already saved me. It was 5 degrees here recently and I left radio on and killed the battery. Scary situation. It fired the car right up. Plugged it back into charging outlet and am ready for the next emergency. Got it at home depot. Worth every penny.
Enjoyed this video, good tips for lighting, safe food storage to avoid attracting bears, etc., and how to build a retractable awning. Recommended by Caravan Carolyn.
For what it's worth, I've seen car campers fashion a solar shower out of a black PVC pipe mounted to the roof rack of their vehicle. With a little creativity you could convert your existing tarp support to be dual purpose. You may need to upgrade to a little bigger size pipe but you wouldn't need more than 2 gallons of water for a decent shower so what you have may suit your needs. One guy could pressurize his with a bike tire pump, but I would think gravity would work just fine. Anyway, I thought it was a very creative hack so thought I would share it with you. Best of luck!
Hi Pamela, she left a comment in my first Camper Conversion video. I replied to her there and thanked her. You could too! Thanks so much for the kind words
Love your videos; they’re so well thought out and presented! Thanks, my wife and I are looking at buying a van for weekends and short trips! Just discovered you and subscribed!
I came over from Carolyn as well. She was obviously liking you and your channel. I subscribe to a couple other you tubers who recommend other channels....I think it is a great gesture....Happy Camping. 🏞🤗
Good video! I have 1 1999 CRV I love and am looking for my next one to modify. I just returned from a 3 night trip on the Oregon coast with my CRV and tent. I don't sleep in mine regularly but it's an incredible vehicle for my type of camping. I camp year-round with it and get to places other cars cannot. My next Honda will be modified a lot more for my needs. I camp with a partner so sleeping in it is not possible with my equipment. I look forward to more mod ideas of ways to use my CRV. 1st time watching your channel and will continue. Thanks. Scott
I have a 2005 Honda CRV and it’s my all time favorite car but my daughter uses it mostly. I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander as well but I like the CRV better.
I have a 2006 Honda CRV that I love as much as you love yours. Same color too! I am just getting started converting it with some help. It's so good to finally see videos for our generation of CRVs. Question: did you add darker tint to your windows? Thanks.
I got the Costway folding table like you have, it doesn't seem to be as easy as yours to put together, but mine is 29 inches on either side. I am getting the camp chair next. The table was a Christmas present.
Hi Misty! Sounds like a nice sized little table. Mine is the KingCamp brand so maybe that’s why they are a little different? Regardless, I’m sure it’ll be great!
Im new to your channel and was wondering how you installed your foam bed and wood shelf in the back! Really great info! I’m interested in decking out my crv like yours!
Hi Lydia! Thanks for being here! I’ve made two build videos that explain the bed and shelf pretty well. Take a look at those and if you have any mother questions, let me know :) FYI I took measurements inside the empty vehicle first and then used a hand saw 🪚 to cut the wood to size. Cheers!!
I got the costaway rolling table as I call it. I should have it tomorrow the darn thing is coming from Canada. I can't wait to get it and add it to the tracker. I'm slowly packing things in the car to see how much room I'll have.
I just found your channel last night. I am an avid car camper as well. I managed to camp 28 weekends this year so far and I’m not done yet. I have a Toyota FJ that I sleep in. I keep all my gear in it all year long. I love to check out how other people have their vehicles set up I can’t wait to see more of what you got going on. I will probably binge watch your channel this weekend. I just started a blog on Facebook called car camping and stuff a couple of months ago. Thinking about getting my TH-cam channel going as well I currently only have two short clips on it but I think next year I’m gonna make some longer videos and see what happens.
@@intheopenair3725 im a total gear junkie as well. We have similar likings it appears. I also tent camp but still based out of my car. Washing station, kitchen area etc. depending on how long im going, lo cation etc. i also watch SUVrving. He camps out of his rav4. Very similar set up that you have. Really excited to see more from you. I’m based out of Michigan so winter camping it’s a little tricky but I’ve got my gear and vehicle dialed in. I’m excited to change up my gear with the new season.
hey... I got a CRV 2005 too... i did a platform...we are 2. :D i LOVE your vidéo... Got me started to some great research ...most of your links does not work, I wonder if you knew about it :) saying hello from Magog Québec :)
I've owned my 1st Gen CR-V since 2004 and have never used my table. Despite, or because of, many camping trips. It's just not convenient to get out. But is convenient as a firm platform that can hold heavy gear on top as you lift it (if you can) to get to supplies underneath.
Hey man! I have a 98 CR-V with the 2.0L 4x4 4cylinder. I've actually been wondering if I can do exactly what you're showing us CAN be done! Everyone seems to really be going after the whole van/minivan thing - which I totally get - but a "go-everywhere" (relatively) fuel efficient off-road type vehicle like the CR-V is an excellent platform as well. My biggest thing about traveling in any size of a vehicle, though, is cooking & heating and showering. The full size "sprinter" and other cargo vans have a definite "leg up" on everything else - the full height ceiling makes it FAR easier to take care of personal hygiene, and the additional space makes cooking and heating much easier because of the types of solutions you can add into the vehicle itself. With a micro like we have, the options are much fewer and further between. The best kind of cooking solution I've seen is a small camp stove that extends out the back of the hatch if it's good weather, but even with an awning I don't really know if outside cooking is going to be the best idea if it's snowing or raining. However, if you pack foods that are not necessary to cook that will solve some issues. Heating, unless you're in a climate with mild temperatures and can do well enough by layering clothing and utilizing an appropriate sleeping bag, seems to be very difficult. If one were able to utilize a flame producing product safely away from any combustible materials and not producing any harmful gases like Carbon Monoxide, that would be ideal as it wouldn't require running the engine to produce heat. Unfortunately such a confined space doesn't always allow for an open flame. I'm going to keep watching and learning, and hopefully by spring maybe I can finally be out on the road and enjoying the wide open spaces! I'm really glad to see the CR-V being utilized in such a way, it gives me hope and a sense of adventure that I can do something as fun as this! Also, really glad you put the disclaimer / warning about not peeing while driving... If people think TEXTING and driving is a bad idea... LOOK OUT!!!
Hi Zach!! Sounds like you’ve got some great ideas! I’ve found living in my CRV to be so comfortable, versatile, economical, and fun! It really is such a wonderful and cheap way to enjoy Van Life. Have fun out there!
Great video. I guess you have the Jackery 250? I go car camping for weekends, no electricity, one weekend per month in Texas. I need to run a small cooler , a fan and some small LED light, and charge 2 smartphone . Would that be enough? Either I’d get the 250 and solar cell, or the 500 may last a weekend without the solar cell? Love your insight
Hi Suzanne!! Thanks so much! I don’t run a cooler so I can’t speak to the effectiveness of that but I find it’s great for all the other things you mention. Especially if you have lots of sun (or are driving a lot) and plan on solar charging. Cheers!!!
How do you get internet? Is it just cell service from your provider? Or something else? Also, if you do rely on your provider, what happens if there’s no service? You mentioned the portable charger for hikes so you don’t get lost, but that would require cell service (I assume) or some other internet connection.
How is the PVC for the tarp canopy attached? Heavy duty zip ties but how are they used in relation to the cross bars and tube? Is there another video of your tarp build? Thanks for all the info. Already did some research on the fan. Exactly what I'm looking for.
Hey Dan! So I use four zip ties per crossbar. 8 total. Two go around the PVC pipe on either side of the crossbar and two go on the cross bar and loop up into the ones I just mentioned. Does this make sense? Basically I am looping the zip ties to each other like a chain while holding the PVC and crossbars. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any more questions :)
Great video! I'm gonna be traveling out of my 2005 crv this winter and your setup is just about what I'm looking to do! I actually have the same awning idea, Why did you leave the front seat in though? And also, do you have videos of your build and little tricks you learned along the way? You sold me on the lights for sure! Great video and a new subscriber here! Keep traveling and making videos! Love the passion!
At first I like your videos because there is no expensive and no fancy stuff👍👍👍. I must also say that you maked very good job with your car, and with nice ideas. And I have one question, do you have any idea for heating inside? I saw on another channel's that they are using diesel heaters, so will that be allso your source of heating or you will arrange something other please show us everything in upcoming videos!
Thanks so much. In regards to your question.. I just purchased a Little Buddy (indoor safe) propane heater. I’ll be using it in the coming weeks and will do a little video about living in my CRV during winter conditions. Thanks for the idea!
Thank you. Also came from Carolyn's channel. You have such practical tips and gadgets. Looking forward to next summer's adventures in my Pacifica...we are all ready to go!!!
Loved your video! I’m in the planning stages rn, looking for a van but I might add your vehicle to my list now! I really like it! Thanks for all the tips. I sub’d. I’ll check out your other videos too.
Nothing fancy. I believe I bought my last auto battery at AutoZone. Just went in and gave them my vehicle year, make, and model. I bought the cheapest option. That was two years ago and it’s still going strong. Hope this helps. Thanks!
Hey! I love your videos and yours was the first conversion I saw that didn’t have a massive platform! I’m converting my 2011 CRV and I’m just wondering what size cooler you use. It looks like you’re using a yeti, but I can’t tell if it’s a 20 or 35. Anyway just wondering how the size works for you. I’ll be traveling solo so I bought the tundra 35 because I thought the roadie would be too small. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I've been looking for a fly rod, too. And didn't know about Tenkara Is your rod expandable, or is it just a short rod? Thanks again for all the info! (Note- froze the vid and saw the specs on the fly rod😊👍)
Yes, definitely! Both rods featured in the video are telescopic/expandable. The fly rod is 12 feet long when fully expanded and you can see me using it in the short clips the accompany my description of it. I’ve found there are plenty of cool videos on here describing proper Tenkara technique. Hope that helps!
The price on the wood burning stove is great but I don't think I would want to pack it around inside a small camper like yours because of the smell. Maybe up top in a carrier or something.
I have to say, I think you’re incorrect. I’ve cooked countless meals on it and have never experienced any odor inside my vehicle while storing it. Remember, you’re cooking with fire, the heat from which is burning off all food residue and scent. Just leave it burning for a bit after you cook and you’ll be more than fine. Cheers
That homeade batwing with the PVC is genius. I'll keep that in mind for when I finally have a roof rack.
Enjoy your videos! I also have a Honda CRV. 2002 AWD. By far the best car I have ever owned. I bought another CRV and was going to get rid of it but after watching your video I think I will keep it and convert it into a camper. Thank you for all the invaluable information you have shared.
Thank you!!! Glad you found it helpful
Have half of what you showed, love my jackery1,000. Gave my 400 yetie which I loved to my daughter! Got the window covers after seeing yours!
Nice!!
Yeah I am loving that tiny outdoor woodstove!
Great info! I’ll be getting the luci string lights.
I Love how you Love her she is your baby and your home and thats sooo Awesome.👍♥️👍

Hi Jacqueline! Your FJ adventures sound awesome. Thanks so much for being here and following along. I hope you enjoy the videos, more to come!
Thanks for the detailed review of those gadgets, I have my eye on that Luci Light string!!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for being here. That LUCI string is soooo good

You are very welcome! Thank you for watching
hey... I got a CRV 2005 too... i did a platform...we are 2. :D
i LOVE your vidéo...
Got me started to some great research ...most of your links does not work, I wonder if you knew about it :)
saying hello from Magog Québec :)
Yes I did enjoy your video
Thanks!!
Do you ever use the picnic table that came with your crv or does it act as a base/foundation for the back?
I've owned my 1st Gen CR-V since 2004 and have never used my table. Despite, or because of, many camping trips. It's just not convenient to get out. But is convenient as a firm platform that can hold heavy gear on top as you lift it (if you can) to get to supplies underneath.
You can get those bags on Amazon and thanks for sharing. Stay safe
Thanks Rita! Much appreciated. Do you have a link you can share?
Good tips❗ TY for sharing❗
Thank you!!
If you have the Luci lights do you use the fairy ones still?
Do you know the dif between heat shields and the weather tech ones I notice they are gold not silver?
What window shields do you have?
Great video! I'm gonna be traveling out of my 2005 crv this winter and your setup is just about what I'm looking to do! I actually have the same awning idea, Why did you leave the front seat in though? And also, do you have videos of your build and little tricks you learned along the way? You sold me on the lights for sure! Great video and a new subscriber here! Keep traveling and making videos! Love the passion!
Thank you for the video :) what do you do in bear country - do you keep the cooler/food/garbage inside the car at night?
Great video
Where did you find the windows heat shields for the CR-V ? It’s impossible to find nowadays
Nice tips thanks.
Thanks!
Thank you. Also came from Carolyn's channel. You have such practical tips and gadgets. Looking forward to next summer's adventures in my Pacifica...we are all ready to go!!!
Thanks Kim!! Enjoy that Pacifica!
Loved your video! I’m in the planning stages rn, looking for a van but I might add your vehicle to my list now! I really like it! Thanks for all the tips. I sub’d. I’ll check out your other videos too.
Barbara!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you! Very useful info
Thanks Dori!
That water bottle is a #1 "chamber pot". :)

Good stuff.
Do you use a certain type of battery for the Honda it’s self to have that much power?
I don’t draw power from my car battery while camping. I use my Jackery instead. Cheers!!
@@intheopenair3725 I understand but you still need a batter for the Honda’. Do you just get a cheap one or do you put a nicer one in
Nothing fancy.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
thanks for tips
Great video!
What do you do when it gets really cold out and you need heat?
Hi! Good question! I’m planning to release a video about this subject very soon... Stay tuned!
@@intheopenair3725 Thank you! Looking forward to it!
Maybe a link to Caravan Carolyn?
And would love to get a small reel rod, as well. Hadnt even thought of that, but the one you have is so small-scale , great size to travel with!
Thanks!
why you don't use the honda picnic table?
Camping im in 👍 subscribed
I've been looking for a fly rod, too. And didn't know about Tenkara Is your rod expandable, or is it just a short rod? Thanks again for all the info!
(Note- froze the vid and saw the specs on the fly rod😊👍)
Yes, definitely! Both rods featured in the video are telescopic/expandable. The fly rod is 12 feet long when fully expanded and you can see me using it in the short clips the accompany my description of it. I’ve found there are plenty of cool videos on here describing proper Tenkara technique. Hope that helps!
@@intheopenair3725it does, thanks!
I'm losing all..but i'm a good fisherman and have a Crv too.
Cheers
What’s the link for that table? I didn’t see in the description box. Thanks
