You still don’t get it, Steve! Why do we love this channel? You are living our dream. As I sit in my 9-5 grind job, I can day dream your life on the road making my way across America that my blood, sweat, and intelligence keep my 40 year old truck rolling. You keep the dream alive for the rest of us. Keep those adventures rolling!
Well said Steve..the Mulberry TA on 84 stickered me after spending 20 bucks on dinner and 500 bucks on fuel..why are these TA's so greedy? Thx for sticking up for all us truckers. Chris
I'm old school, and this paid parking is for the comfort of the steering wheel holders. I park wherever, if they tell me to move I move. Some truck stops gave up on the paid parking, no employee wants to be parking police at that pay.
Orwell really stood out at that truck stop,I miss not seeing cabovers like Orwell or that gray long nose Pete that 02 Stroker has,in my opinion the new trucks are plain and they all look alike, looking like cheap Kmart toys, thank You for sharing Orwell with us ,safe travels 👍🏾
The last time I was there they stuck one of those giant stickers on my truck window. Never went back. I refuse to give my money to a place that does that.
With the parking, if the companies are going to charge for parking make the 1st two hours free so you can eat then start charging if the truckers plan to stay longer.
If that's the TA in Southington, yeah that place is a shit hole and I never stop at that place even for fuel. The one up in Willington at exit 71 is a little better, if you *have* to shut down in CT. The one in Maybrook, NY before you cross the river is also a dump. It's a tricky part of the country to deal with.
So I bought a 1998 International cabover. I have a Throttle lock the same as your Cadover. They do make an aftermarket cruise control for a manual fuel pump such as yours. And mine. It'll run you about nine hundred bucks for all the components. And it will adapt as you go down the road with the hills. well worth the investment. Later this summer I will buy it and put it on my truck. And my truck has the cummins big cam 444. I can't wait to get it on the road. I bought it because of all the mandates.
Man, that sound of the reefer humming outside brings back memories. Took me awhile to get used to sleeping with it, when health issues forced me to retire, it took awhile to get used to sleeping without it. :P Make good MONEY, they said... See the COUNTRY, they said... It'll be FUN, they said... I miss it though.
gday steve. we pay twice that much for diesel plus all diesel vehicles here in newzealand pay road kms. trucks have hub meters and cars, vans and utes they read your odometer.
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary and the music. Truckstop aren't what they use to be that's sad. Especially the parking or lack there of. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Steve.
I plan my routes to where I don't have to stop at any Truck Stop that requires paid parking. There is always somewhere reasonable to stop. Either a small Ma & Pa truck stop, or a Loves. I usually prefer to park in a rest area anyway. Nicer for taking my dog out.
Too many places are taking advantage of drivers like you Steve. If you are shopping or eating at a truck stop, they should not charge you to park, make more free parking available. If you are ever back my way in NC, you can park right here in my yard.
I miss the old days of trucking. Wish we had cell phones back in the day all I had was a C-110 Kodak camera to get pictures for memories. Just watching these videos, I can see a lot has changed.
TA should print a ticket when you come in with a time entered stamp and if you don't stay longer, than say 1hour you don't pay. Enjoy your videos man, Thanks for doing what you do sir...
Big classic rig. Manual splitter crash gear box a brilliant driver is Poetry to watch only thing missing in these brilliant videos is the old map reading skills
I am with you Steve. I believe if yu buy fuel or eat at the restaurant that is in thei premises, you should park for free buut everyone is after the almightydollar and give a crap about the individual
I figure that red sticker is a notice to tow. here in southeast Memphis there couple of truck stops on (hwy 78 & Shelby drive) that a tow company is clamping/ booting drivers steer tires if parked in no parking spots. you can’t move if clamped/ booted & they tow your truck. our local tv news said the tow company is charging 2,500 to 3,500$ to give truck back. drivers have called the cops over being booted so now it’s in the courts to see if the clamping/ booting is legal
Most people don’t realize the difference between a gasoline-powered vehicle and a diesel-powered vehicle diesel engines are designed to idle because they are so hard to start it makes more sense to idle them than try to start them when it is cold because of how hard they are to start in the winter whereas, gasoline-powered engines are not designed for idling and idling them even if the heater isn’t warm can cause it to burn more gasoline and it could cause more damage to the engine if prolonged idling. 🙂
Put a sticker on my truck and you will be fishing it out of their plumbing. They have no right to touch your vehicle. They are required to call the authorities and let them tag the vehicle. They usually put it on your antenna or glass which isn't a big deal to remove. Off chrome or paint and it could mess up the finish.
First, I just rather think about the suck ass situation and then laugh at the situation and go on with life. TA Rambo parking police can put all the damn stickers on the truck - just rip 'em off and plaster them on their port a potty entrance gate. I really gave up on Trashpits of America when I drove - they just weren't worth it.
Any time i gotta run to b more from up north i run 95, 495, 90, 87, down to 287 in jersey and loop down around. Pop out by perth amboy i think. If time allows.
Dang Steve I wanted to watch you go through New Haven and Bridgeport. Those were the areas I worked when I was a livery car driver in Bridgeport before I moved to Tennessee.
One of my favorite observations whenever I see electric trucks mentioned is where are you going to park them all long enough to recharge the battery. I feel every driver deserves a safe place to park with services available & the ability to keep warm or cool as needed & have power for lights & entertainment. Document & deal with mistreatment of facilities on an individual basis.
Reserved should only be available from 9pm to 5am Better ride would've been rt 8 down, usually very little traffic till Bridgeport, around the interchange
Dang that's wicked high price for diesel, just down the road from the TA opposite direction that you left is a Mobil station that back in early 90's I was getting diesel fuel for .88 cents a gallon 👍😎
Man, watching Steve (and other trucking channels I follow) always makes me wish I could emigrate to the US and drive OTR... Love the sound of Orwell cruising the highways and byways, Steve, and even though there wasn't much coal footage this time, the sound of those jakes more than makes up for it IMHO. Push on for 2024!
At 29:28 I’m not a professional truck driver just a guy who likes trucks and with that said I sometimes stop short of the white line to give larger vehicles plenty of room when turning left. I don’t want the front of my vehicle taken out by 53 foot trailer because I was ignorant.
..thanx Steve, for Showing us America's Hiways. Happy healthy n safe new year. I never knew how Truck crowded these parking lots are. U may wanna stock of frozen dinners n a toaster for your meals on the road. U may also want to install a kit that provides u with Air Bags between the cab and frame for better ride like the new Trucks have. Pls, polish the spokes of your steering wheel! and pls, tell JP what to do with his many cab over trucks !
Yeah I always hate it when somebody was parked on the fuel Island and the truck stop manager had to go out and put buckets or cones behind the truck because some guy was sleeping in his truck on the fuel Island 99% of the time it's not the fuel pump
Hey Brother, love this channel, I don't like being critical, but around 14.30, when you were cruising along thinking about Boston Market, it would've been considerate to move to the middle lane for the traffic trying to merge.
Three days spent sitting in your truck? That's got to be one of those occasions where a conventional with big, walk in, stand up sleeper would be nice. I never understand why people, when they are driving the speed limit or real close to it, will hit the brakes when they see a cop. Going 5-10 mph under the speed limit when you go past them is not going to earn good points, but it could cause a collision. Here in Virginia, we do not lose more of our rights on January 1. No, here in the Communistwealth of Virginia, we surrender more of our rights on July 1, then on July 4 we can celebrate the time when we had more rights. Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back. That's what I always heard.
That's the TA in Cheshire, CT. On rt 84. SURE looks like it. At any rate, we're outta PA and relay with our drivers from Holyoke MA there. Yeah, it's a real struggle to use a parking spot for a half hour or so. We're on a schedule. We show up at the appointment time , drop and swap and maybe run in for the bathroom and a cup of coffee to go. BUT, we're legitimately parked
Heres my 2 pence worth on highway services (Truck stops etc). Commercial vehicles are earning money, whether its a full Heavy Goods Vehicle or Large Goods Vehicle (HGV or LGV), van, pickup etc, why should you expect free parking for 2 hour's, 24, 48 etc?. If you purchase food and/or fuel, then 2 hours parking is fine, any longer then you should pay. Enjoying your videos Steve over here in little old England 🇬🇧
Ok Steve you can let me know if anyone messes with you. I will deal with that so you focus on trucking because that is what I am good at. Thank you Clint
One of my big pet peeves is if I'm making a left turn and I see a nice gap in traffic coming up....except the driver at the front of the gap suddenly slows down and the driver at the back seemingly floors it to catch up.
Most oncoming traffic reflexively slows when they see a left turn about to happen. In my personal vehicle I go ahead and turn. Not in the rig of course.
@bentonja668 it's nice when they do that, but I drive in the NYC area and the behavior described in my OP seems to be the rule instead of the exception
I did that for eleven years 10 with a reefer outfit that was in Central Massachusetts in Warren. Now I have returned back to my birthplace in Upper Michigan. 😊
Hey Steve! You dont only loose a bit of your rights when starting a new year, you also loose money. Im retired and lost around 3000 Nkr. pr. month. 1% more taxes, and rent for my flat goes up as well. I survive so Im not complaining, but I would have liked to live a meaningfull life as well. Enogh about that. The reason I love your channel is that I love those old trucks, and your historylessions and smalltalk as well. And I like travelling and driving myself, but havent the nerves to drive trucks. For me its the open roads, city driving is a nightmare! Have a nice day my friend.
I try to avoid NYC . Interstate 84 to Scranton Pa is much less traffic. Pick up interstate 81 south. Pick up interstate 83 in Harrisburg to Baltimore. Not sure how many hours that adds instead of going thru Nyc and New Jersey
That part of 95 if you see brakes, its probably cops, everyone is usually doing 75 to 90. Good thing you didnt go down 95 through Providence, they shut down the 195 bridge in providence and it made getting through there a nightmare for a few weeks.
I used to buy 90% of my fuel from TA, I would park in a reserved spot and hang a TA fuel receipt on the drivers window, nobody never said nothing.... hell a 5 to 600 dollar receipt...
Give them a couple of dollars for short term parking I suppose, 30 minutes or so, or run a toll booth, watch them balk at the cost of that, or they could create an app, to keep things contactless, heaps of things could be done.
What's funny with the people who pull past the line & stop way back is that, Most lights are smart lights. They sense if a car is there and how many. No sensors forward of line, sensor a foot or two behind the line another about 50' and if a large intersection more added so fill the box with vehicle
You still don’t get it, Steve! Why do we love this channel? You are living our dream. As I sit in my 9-5 grind job, I can day dream your life on the road making my way across America that my blood, sweat, and intelligence keep my 40 year old truck rolling. Well said Steve..the Mulberry TA on 84 stickered me after spending 20 bucks on dinner and 500 bucks on fuel..why are these TA's so greedy? Thx for sticking up for all us truckers. Chris
It's Milldale, not Mulberry.
PAID PARKING SHOULD ALWAYS MEAN THAT YOU ARE ALSO PAYING FOR SECURITY GUARD.
Don’t ever change- enjoy your videos
As soon as ya parked in that spot, the first thing I thought 💭 of was “U can’t park here, I’m the manager”
Oh I was waiting for it...
Woopie
The truck stop looked bland with all the modern trucks. Love seeing the older trucks still working.
I'm old school, and this paid parking is for the comfort of the steering wheel holders. I park wherever, if they tell me to move I move. Some truck stops gave up on the paid parking, no employee wants to be parking police at that pay.
Watch out in Connecticut. They all have security that checks
Stopping at truck spots becomes a stressful activity, ten times more than driving all the night long...

That's what they used to do there.
Sometimes, you do what you have to do.

Orwell is now 40 years old Happy Birthday!
Не is deep shitt..

Thanks for showing us how real trucking works.I remember when I would ride in the truck with my dad and it brings back good memories thank you.

Steve thanks for your work. And videos! I’m retired and now have you driving for me 😊
Yah man
Your from Jersey so I would think you would take 95 to 287 get on the pike at 10 and take that to 7 and run down 295 and save on tolls 😉
Enjoy your channel. Always interesting to see how others get through their daily work.
Great video Steve really enjoy all the different camera angles and your commentary and the music. Truckstop aren't what they use to be that's sad. Especially the parking or lack there of. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Steve.
Damn that cabover is freaking awesome! Love it! It's got a look everyone loves at least I do be safe !

One of the saddest parts of truckers life. Happy and healthy New Year 👍

Hey Steve! Godbless & Be Safe!
I'd rather drive off a cliff than pull in a TA , 30 years otr and I can count on 1 hand the visits to them , Jessup OMG
I miss the old days of trucking. Wish we had cell phones back in the day all I had was a C-110 Kodak camera to get pictures for memories. Just watching these videos, I can see a lot has changed.
Drivers were nicer to each other tho
TA should print a ticket when you come in with a time entered stamp and if you don't stay longer, than say 1hour you don't pay. Enjoy your videos man, Thanks for doing what you do sir...
You pay before you park.
I don’t drink sodas anymore either. Once a month or so is about it, just for the caffeine if I’m driving home late.
Big classic rig. Manual splitter crash gear box a brilliant driver is Poetry to watch only thing missing in these brilliant videos is the old map reading skills
HELL IF IT WASNT FOR TRUCKS HOW WILL WE GET OUR STUFF THINK ABOUT THAT ......THANK U STEVE FOR ALL THAT U AND THE TRUCKER DO

Steve you are awesome out there doing it .thank you for sharing
It all about the Money , they don't care about the truck driver's needing to park .
FSC the only one out there at the truck stop with a real truck
Only one that’s not PLASTIC!
@@maxracingteam23that's true

You get free parking out in the states in the uk you get 3 out free but if u got to park over night you got to pay ever where you go
Coming through my neck of the woods Steve , Connecticut
Hey Steve GOD bless you and your beautiful family
Your truck looks amazing

ROLL that Beautiful Coal Footage
Howdy good evening Steve great live last nite brother
did you happen to see Freightliner is coming back with a COE? I saw a youtube on them yesterday. Keep ON TRUCK'N!!!
Park at the fuel ⛽ island like the steering wheel holders
There aren't to many of the Boston Markets around anymore, they are closing them down, which was owned by McDonald's anyway.
Hell we make so much money out here. That we need to give it all to them. If people weren’t so greedy shit would be a lot more lovelier
Steve I did the same thing when I was driving find a spot , go get something to eat , eat in the truck then leave
having reserved parking is a racket and a scam
Hey Steve. I spend a lot of time in grain lines and I have Uber eats, door dash or grub hub deliver food to my truck.
At 29:28 I’m not a professional truck driver just a guy who likes trucks and with that said I sometimes stop short of the white line to give larger vehicles plenty of room when turning left. I don’t want the front of my vehicle taken out by 53 foot trailer because I was ignorant.

CT/NY DOT been hot and heavy lately everywhere 🤦
That T/A is in Greenland New Hampshire, it used to be called the Exit 3 truck stop
What's wrong with the driver door that you have to slam it all the time? Somethings going to crack or break. Love the channel!!
He put a new seal on it a while back so now it’s a snug fit.
I couldn’t imagine doing a weekend in a flattop cabover.
Who sleeps standing up.
It’s cozy 😊
Think of it this way, this will make you get out and move around when parked, not just lounging around
Yeah I always hate it when somebody was parked on the fuel Island and the truck stop manager had to go out and put buckets or cones behind the truck because some guy was sleeping in his truck on the fuel Island 99% of the time it's not the fuel pump
As far as sounds? AP Unit doesn't really help if all the rest of the trucks don't have it.. I agree
Hey Brother, love this channel, I don't like being critical, but around 14.30, when you were cruising along thinking about Boston Market, it would've been considerate to move to the middle lane for the traffic trying to merge.

That's why I refuse to stop at a TA !
There, they are the only game in town.
Ok Steve you can let me know if anyone messes with you. I will deal with that so you focus on trucking because that is what I am good at. Thank you Clint
We used to call it the cross bumps and the gee wiz bridge 😂
Another good video steve. I've got load to Barrow-in-Furness for BAE ran out of time for today so catching up on your and other channels
I love McDonalds, i also love the sound of your truck and shifting thru the gears
Your not wrong it's a BIG MONEY MAKING sham
One of my big pet peeves is if I'm making a left turn and I see a nice gap in traffic coming up....except the driver at the front of the gap suddenly slows down and the driver at the back seemingly floors it to catch up.

Sorry to hear!
I did that for eleven years 10 with a reefer outfit that was in Central Massachusetts in Warren. Now I have returned back to my birthplace in Upper Michigan. 😊
Boston Market are the best!, though it seems they have become far and few...
Hey Steve! You dont only loose a bit of your rights when starting a new year, you also loose money. Middletown,CT is off of 384. I watch. Your you tube channel. I live in Pomfret Center, Ct. Off route 101. Keep making the great videos.
Greed Steve,I loved trucking on the east coast when trucking was old school. My stickers are in a plastic bag,Keep On Truckin
I met you at MATS and Roy Hubbard last year. Probably see u again.
i think you are absolutely right Steve where do they expect you to park and then expect you to spend money there too
12:50 ... NH doesn't have toll attendants at night. They do work during the day.
That part of 95 if you see brakes, its probably cops, everyone is usually doing 75 to 90. Good thing you didnt go down 95 through Providence, they shut down the 195 bridge in providence and it made getting through there a nightmare for a few weeks.
I would be fighting mad if any place tried to put anything on my my nice truck. Especially some damned idiotic sticker on my grill shell.
What a F hassle just to park at the 28 minute mark enjoying the video driver stay 1/19/24
I overnighted at that TA about 5 yrs ago but I was in my SUV so I was parked out front.
I used to buy 90% of my fuel from TA, I would park in a reserved spot and hang a TA fuel receipt on the drivers window, nobody never said nothing.... hell a 5 to 600 dollar receipt...
I have been here at this TA plenty of times
Give them a couple of dollars for short term parking I suppose, 30 minutes or so, or run a toll booth, watch them balk at the cost of that, or they could create an app, to keep things contactless, heaps of things could be done.
I live up here and i never go 95 through rhode island. Nothing but wagons every 5 feet it seems like
What's funny with the people who pull past the line & stop way back is that, Most lights are smart lights. They sense if a car is there and how many.
