thank you, thank you for driving over the mackinak bridge with your rig, i am 89 yrs old and with my family, we have traveled up to the UP for over 50 years, in fact, we saw the bridge being built it brought me a lot of fond memories . again, thank you.

Every time I watch your videos it brings back so many memories my dad passed away in January of 2017 he drove tractor trailers all of his life he was 98 years old when passed away he worked for a company JJ Sullivan for 23 years they were a division of Mayflower Andy worked for Anderson Benson another moving he held milk for a company called Crowley they are located in New York state and he used to work for finest super markets in 1975 he started there because he was driving for a company in Connecticut in hauling Royal typewriters and computers to California and then he would come back with a load of raisins and fruit but that contract ended so he started with finest supermarkets that was a 1975 and he worked there until he was injured couple times for stupid things that were not his fault and because of his age they were kind of basically trying to force him to retire so bought his own tractor and trailer because my oldest my cousin and my Uncle all worked for finest supermarkets also they did the same as my dad and started a company called northwind transport not sure the exact year my dad bought my favorite tractor a cabover 1974 Peterbilt ❤❤ miss that truck and my dad so much but thankyou for making your videos like you do because i relive those days each timeo see your videos there great i was 20 years old when he asked me to travel on the road with him I will never forget those days die that until 1985 when was 22 years old I stopped working with they had five tractors and about 12 trailers. Some other guy started driving my dads tractor and blew the engine not checking the oil and fluid levels each day so i put a cat 330 i think it was called he used to argue with my brother all the time about who's tractor was best my brother had long nose 1971 Kenworth they also bought 1973 cabover Freightliner and 1974 international transtar cabover and a Ford cabover 1976 i think that's long time ago I'll be 60 years old in November would have given anything to have my dad here for my birthday but he was born in 1918 my mom lived to be 96 years old she passed during covid sorry to drag on but just wanted to share this with you how much pleasure enjoy your videos bring to me thankyou Steve keep up the good work and as back in the day they used say keep on trucking I used to have a sweatshirt with a peace sign on it and it said keep on trucking

A family tradition for me is to listen to the 1610 am station everytime we cross. Super fun.

Back on July 4, 2007 (or '08,I can't remember for sure), my wife and I loaded up on the Badger in Manitowoc and disembarked in Ludington. We were in her car so the ride was quite affordable!
We've always wanted to go back and do it again. Unfortunately, an untimely and career ending back injury, and being forced to retire real early, we simply haven't been able to rub enough Georges together to be able to swing it again.
Oh well, no reason to pout about it. That ain't gonna change a single thing. (However, we still hope that we can swing at it and catch a lucky grand slam someday!)

Was stationed in the U.P. for a time, traveled to and from Ohio for about a 3 yr period, beautiful part of the country. Had friends that were from Wisconsin and Minnesota, good folks and fond memories.

As a native Yooper, I've been across that bridge more times thasn I can count. It never gets old going up home again... until about 10 miles down US-2 when you realize you still have three hours of mostly desolation before you get to Marquette. Hope you found a decent place to get some rest. There are more moose than truck stops along that route.
Back in the 70s there was a TV show on Sundays about the UP they showed the moose being transplanted from Canada onto a logging truck and brought out into the woods and released.
Don't forget the Scent stretch.

I miss Yooper Country. Born & raised there. Job opportunities in lower Michigan may be better, but most factory jobs have you working 7 days straight. And if you non-union, maybe you'll get 1 day of vacation per month. Grant it will only be a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for doctor's or dentist appointment.

Those living north of the bridge are called Yoopers because they live in the UP or upper peninsula..... Those living in the lower peninsula or south of the bridge are called trolls because we live under or below the bridge!!

Awesome new sights I haven't really seen anywhere before. Almost twenty years ago I used to play computer games with a guy from Manistee. I've never seen what that part of Michigan looks like - beautiful! As always, a pleasure to see Orwell puffing coal through the countryside and over the bridge. The B Block CAT sounds amazing, I love that turbo-spool.

I so wish I had known you were coming right passed me Steve I live right at the 322 cheboygan pellston exit just 15 miles south of the bridge you came right passed le I would have had you pull off at the exit and shake your hand it woukd have been my honor to keep you sir then you could gave got right back on the highway

I haven’t been over the Big Mac in a long time. If you ever want an adventure, do the bridge walk on Labor Day. You’d be amazed at how much it sways.
I was there the day it opened . Mom made us all matching shirts. Boy, we must have really looked like a bunch of fudgeies.

This is David Wilson commenting. When I was 14 in 1955, I passed thru the Straits of Mackinac on a German freighter (M.V. Ciandra) on the way to Montreal from Chicago. The bridge piers were standing up out in the strait but no bridge on them yet. The freighter's final destination was Venezuela.
Is the S.S. Badger still running from Manitowoc Wisconsin to Ludington Michigan? I don't know what the cost would be for a truck, or whether the accept them, but the ship used to be a R.R. ferry so it could certainly a truck for size and weight .
It does still run. But was cut short this season with a broken ramp.

Steve thanks for taking us over the top today, that is one road trip I have always wanted to do but haven’t had the opportunity. This summer I plan on taking that trip it looks awesome.
Bring your swimming suit on nice warm days people pull over on highway 2 and go swimming in the lake there are beautiful sand beaches
Did the dunes at Silver Lake this summer, what an awesome place and recommend anyone with the need for speed and adventure make a point to spend a day there!

I always enjoyed the ferry ride across the Straits though there was often a four hour wait that might stretch to eight hours around deer season.
That was a few years ago.
Years ago, a very small 4 wheeler was blown off the bridge in high winds. Killing a female driver. But it is a beautiful bridge, and the view are awesome. The Upper Peninsula is just amazing. Great video Steve and Orwell.

Am from Michigan born in Michigan from Bay City and up in the thumb of Huron county city of Bad Axe did live in owendale in thumb now I live in Bad Axe Michigan I have never been to Mackinaw bridge it was nice to be that close I don't think I could have been there it was gorgeous view

Work has never taken across the bridge in a truck but I’ve walked the bridge. Also the tour boat at 18:30 is called the “Ugly Anne” and a great sunset cruise.
I don’t see any place to walk on the bridge where do you walk.
