I have developed a severe spinal deformity due to ankylosing spondylitis and a few other complications, which together have caused me to be unable to sleep in any position except sitting up in bed. So I have a bed wedge to lean against; however, this creates an additional painful problem with my neck as my pillow inevitably flattens or moves slightly from where I had put it before falling asleep … Therefore I’m looking for a travel pillow that will keep my neck supported throughout the night instead of allowing my head and neck to tip way backwards. My question about this travel pillow (any/all of the three trtl pillows) is can I put the plastic stabilizing part behind my neck, vs. on one side or the other of my neck? Every ad I see for the trtl pillows shows the stabilizer only on one side or the other of the model’s neck … Thanks in advance for any answers or suggestions you may have to offer, and be well!🥰🥰🥰

The TRTL can be used like you suggest, but you may feel like you are getting "choked" in the front of the neck. Have you considered a Pillowise custom fit pillow? th-cam.com/video/2LVatPpx-9o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7S4UR1haB21fi_PT

@@PhysicalTherapyKS I hadn’t heard of the pillow you suggested before, but just by looking at it I think I would have exactly the same problem I have right now - which is that the pillow would either flatten or move out of place, leaving my neck unsupported and my head tipping WAY backward. If I could sleep flat, almost any pillow would work, including the one you suggested. But since I have to sleep sitting up against a wedge, it’s impossible to make a flat pillow stay where I need it for very long. 🥺🥺🥺

Thanks for the video. Have you tried using that U shaped pillow with open part towards the back of your neck and the support under your chin? Might stop the head bob.

I've been considering getting one for this exact reason - I do exactly what Cody mentioned re: head bobbing forward, jolting awake with sore neck etc. The 'legitimate' reviews of these pillows seems to be pretty hit or miss though, and they aren't overly cheap. Maybe i'll just have to bite the bullet and give it a go.

@@JezzaN1 I bought a pillow recently. Typical horse-shoe shape. For each pillow I tested how stiff it was by squeezing it. I wore it, open end behind my neck, good support at the front and sides. Worked a treat on a 10 hour flight. Worth the $25. But there were many that were too soft and more expensive.

@@PhysicalTherapyKSThanks, I realised a typo in my first comment. It should have read 'U shaped' not 'I shaped'. Corrected it now. Try it with the U shaped pillow, OPEN part at BACK Works perfectly.
