When I was 19, I traveled around Europe for 5 weeks and brought both a TRTL pillow and the BCOZZY neck pillow. I ditched the TRTL within a few days. The BCOZZY is much more adjustable and softer, as well as provides stability for my whole head (no bobbing!). It took a little getting used to, as the weight of my head pressed down upon my jaw and chest but I quickly adapted and napped comfortably on planes, trains, and buses. It’s my absolute favorite travel pillow. Would never take a flight over 2 hours without it.
I just googled Bcozzy and it looks extremely thin like it would have zero support... I wish they would just make a thick one that actually supports your head all around. It's crazy that it doesn't exist.
Actually there is an updated version called the trtl pillow plus, where the "side pillow" is much sturdier and can be regulated in height. It would be interesting to see your opinion about it. I bought the plus version when it was on kickstarter, but was a bit disappointed, maybe because my expectations were too high, or maybe cause i never found the perfect setting for me.
I have the one like he has in fact 2 and it is not quite like that but very similar but there are in a box I do not use them I use the one I have for a very long time😃
I guess I'm old school. Use the same blow up neck pillow for 10 years. Works for me. Have FUN in Hawaii - you deserve it. Glad you have your son with you (keep you out of trouble).
I love it. I'm 188 cm (6"2) and never had problem wraping it around my neck while seated. And I change my head from left to right, it only requires tiny shift of the pillow :)
I love this pillow so much! Ive had mine for years! My favorite way to use it is in the FRONT! It lets you completely relax your head and it keeps it up :D
You actually are reviewing something that I have owned for years. I tried about 4 travel/plane pillows and Trtl is the only one that I have still. It's much needed for International travel and I only carry it for domestic if the flight is over 3 hours. It lets me rest so I can actually fall asleep on a plane which I used to never be able to do. The fabric cover is easy to wash and the only negative is that it's big in my backpack but worth every square inch.
I freaking LOVE my TRTL pillow!!!!! It hides the drool when I fall asleep. I have never ever covered my mouth with it and my insert has never popped out like yours did. Mine is several years old and I will have to check to see if it has the same weak Velcro closure????
Hope you enjoyed your trip! It looks beautiful! This pillow might be better than the alternative: being an actual bobble head when dozing off during travel. It might prevent that kink in your neck from your head snapping back and forth. But then some folks, like me, have an issue having things wrapped against your neck.
I guess the big question is does the "Turtle" pillow beat the "Ostrich" pillow you tested some time ago?.... at least on embarrassment factor, that's a yes.... lol
If you're using the Ostrich pillow properly, there shouldn't be any embarrassment factor. You're not seeing anyones reaction so it doesn't really matter does it? lol
Please try the Dream Sling! It's a travel pillow with a sling for both of your arms. When I travel on international flights, my arms always put strain on my shoulders. So with the sling, I can rest my arms higher than the low arm rests that are on the plane seats. And it was invented IN HAWAII!
This neck pillow doesn't look very comfortable for me. When I get sleepy on a plane, I have the regular neck pillow and end up leaning next to the cabin wall or window. I think I would end up with a stiff neck with that pillow. Thanks for the review and those gorgeous pictures in Hawaii!!! Merry Christmas!!! 🎄
you can actually use it on both sides (unless your version is strangely unsymmetric); it's very practical and depending on how light i have to travel, i pick this one or the j pillow, so yes i like this one and the support it provides ot my neck. this is coming from someone who can barely ever sleep in a non-horizontal position, so these two pillows have at least allowed for some naps
I have developed a severe spinal deformity due to ankylosing spondylitis and a few other complications, which together have caused me to be unable to sleep in any position except sitting up in bed. So I have a bed wedge to lean against; however, this creates an additional painful problem with my neck as my pillow inevitably flattens or moves slightly from where I had put it before falling asleep … Therefore I’m looking for a travel pillow that will keep my neck supported throughout the night instead of allowing my head and neck to tip way backwards. My question about this travel pillow (any/all of the three trtl pillows) is can I put the plastic stabilizing part behind my neck, vs. on one side or the other of my neck? Every ad I see for the trtl pillows shows the stabilizer only on one side or the other of the model’s neck … Thanks in advance for any answers or suggestions you may have to offer, and be well!🥰🥰🥰
Be inovative with it, regarding the length. Think outside the box. Why not buy 2 and wrap around with the headrest on both sides of the head. It can get cold inside the aircraft on long haul flights, thus keeping the neck & shoulders warm.🙂😁🤷 just giving some suggestions.🥰
I used one off and on for years and I didn’t have any problems stretching it side to side. I never reached beyond my space. To use it on the opposite side of your neck, just wrap it from front to back or back to front depending on which side it’s on (or clockwise or counterclockwise)
I was actually thinking of buying one of these. I don't know if it's the same brand, cos there's a few that are almost identical. I didn't push ahead with my purchase and I don't feel like I'm missing too much.
The regular neck pillows don't work for me. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome and my neck is way too flexible and floppy for them to do any good (I can touch my ear to my shoulder without raising my shoulder), and after using one for even 20 minutes I end up in severe pain from the position I wind up in. I have been looking at this one for a while, you've convinced me to give it a try.
You can't switch the side you have the support on by turning it upside down? Or do you mean you move your head from side to side a lot while you sleep and having the support on only one side would bother you?
I just bought the TRTL Pillow plus and think it's pretty cool, HOWEVER when I would use it on my side it would continuously pops my earbuds out. For this reason, alone I can't justify keeping it because I definitely wear my headphones the entire time to drown out the sound. I feel like if they address this problem I would totally buy another one.
Could you stretch it out in front of you rather than side to side. Could you place one of those plane pillows inside between your neck and the trtl to make it softer? Can you flip the insert upside down to swap sides?
I worry about your backpack sitting in the seat beside you, as you look like you're going to sleep. :-) Thanks for taking one for the team, testing this.
I enjoy watching this channel. Now whenever I see a product advertised on TV that you've reviewed, I just laugh at how bad it's actual use went vs how the commercial is playing it up to being awesome
7:24 Tilly hat you are wearing. I had my first one in 1991 when we did 15 months of traveling in South East Asia. No TRTL head rest at that time... Got 2 free replacements of our Tilly hat though, life time warranty!
I have one and use it under my chin. Most of the airline seats I get have wings on the headrest so now it is almost like my head is locked in and doesn't bob left, right or forward now. I have bought many different travel pillows from cheap blow ups to $70 high tech foam pillow and this my be my last. Thanks for your review.
The TRTL takes a lot of practice to use. The models in the ads all seem to be in first or business. Those in economy class have to (1) avoid elbowing the person in the next seat, (2) avoid spilling whatever is on the tray, and (3) constantly get out of the seat, interrupting your sleep. It also needs to be readjusted during the flight. Not many people sleep in the same position for hours at a time.
I was thinking of getting this for my trip last week. decided not to because i thought it was too expensive. happy you finally made a review about it. still can't say if i need this in my life but i did notice my head bobbling during my trip so this could've helped maybe. but not at that price point.
I think I'm gonna try this. Thank you James, for all the work you do to help us consumers make informed decisions! I so totally appreciate it! Btw, can I go with you and your family to Hawaii next time?!! 🤣🤣🤣 Enjoy your trip! God bless you! Xoxo 🙏🏾💕
I have used a knock-off brand of this pillow and I do like it. At least better than other options that I have tried. This particular one is way overpriced in my opinion, especially for the occasional long haul traveler.
If I was the airline, I would have asked if you had a doctor's note to fly as you look like some weird medical condition using that thing. Unless you can switch to lean your head in either direction, it's not very good. I'd rather lean my head towards a travel companion and not a stranger, and I'm sure they would like that also since you look scary using it.
Came across your review, and I think you're using it upside-down. All of the product videos show the wrap going from left to right, not right to left, and there's a 'flap' that should be on the upper side of the wrap, not against your shoulder.
no, it's not. If you're looking for a travel pillow because most don't work for you - this one won't work either. There's not enough support or you have to tighten it so much it strangles you (and there's still not enough support)
I’m already claustrophobic just watching you trying to put it one for the very first time. I’m flying nest week and this is something I’m going to take a pass on. Love your videos and your truthful reviews. I’ve recommended yiur videos to my friends because you do test and review honestly.

well it will work nice in the cold without the plastic thingy as just a neckwarmer.
The TRTL pillow is difficult to use if you wear glasses and/or “can” headphones on a flight, because it pushes up around your ears.
Agreed. I have multiple ear piercings, recognized the problem, and gave the TRTL away.
