    As someone who has done this at least a half dozen times, including a dual-LED mod, it's a lot of fun, and fantastic practice for soldering. I literally have more trouble removing that dang strap pin than the LED at this point lol.

      How did you do the dual LED mod? Is there space for a cable across?

    • @manoflego123
      @manoflego123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@alfredlille sort of, yes! With small enough shielded wire you can cram another small LED on the right side of the screen. The hard part is that in order to pull enough power for this to work you need to remove a capacitor (or resistor? I am not an engineer) and solder another small wire where it once was. I know there's a decent guide out there if you look up how to do it.

    nice, thanks for the info on the LED type. Just a small tip, perhaps add flux when you solder since it looks like those solder joints may be cold joints.

    • @ageneer5160
      @ageneer5160  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you very much for the tip, but I prefer, if possible, not to use flux, for a few reasons.

      @@ageneer5160 What reasons if I may ask?

    • @ageneer5160
      @ageneer5160  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@V_channel_ If you use solder with rosin built inside you don't need external flux. I had some experience with various type and brand of flux, and I've noticed that some of them release , when heated, a small amount of substances (not sure what kind of substances) that can create electric path from one component to the other nearby. That can make your circuit to not work properly and I think that the best way is not to use external flux, unless you are 100 percent sure that the type of flux you are using have the best quality as possible. I specify that this is my opinion based on personal experience, it is not an objective fact.

    Seems really hard, I built some FPV drones, but I think this pcb board is even smaller 😱
    Also, your sarcasm made me chuckle 😂
    However I think I will try this 😉
    I think I want a UV LED, and also apply a little Lume paint to the backplate of the LCD screen.
    If you then use the light, the backplate will remain blue or green (depending on the paint). Also, I think a hydro mod for diving HAS to be added for 4000m+ WR.

    • @manoflego123
      @manoflego123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It will drain much faster because you will be so happy with the new light that you won't be able to resist lighting it up every few minutes just to see it, something no one would want to do with the stock LED.

      @@ElectricityTaster yeah I know, but that's how professionals refer to the internal mechanisms of a watch, I think. I'm not sure. I'd personally just call it electronics since in a digital quartz watch there are no moving parts usually.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lukasmax6984 You can call something a "movement" if it has moving parts like quartz, wind-up or automatic; or a "module" if it's purely or mostly digital. Though i personally don't mind someone calling a digital module a "movement" or even "calibre", after all industry misnomers are kind of just a thing that happens.
      I have an A168 here actually but i don't have an F91; however i have an impression that the module will not fit, or at least will not fit trivially, you may need some rework and it can be very difficult or impossible. The cutout for the screen placement is different, since the EL boost drive transistor and transformer have caused the screen to be placed differently. Furthermore the EL tape and the gold spring contacts connecting it to the PCB also take up a substantial space in thickness missing on F91, so the internal case dimensions of A168 is larger in thickness as well.

    If you are not an electronic engineer don’t ruin your watch !! 🙁

    You cant overheat this pcb with soldering iron silly... there is a video on YT where they set washed this watchs at 90° temp, then dried them in dryer, then sprayed them with break cleaner and set them on fire and they still worked flawlessly. In order to kill this watch they used propane torch and it still took more than 5 seconds to stop working xD

      Overheating a pcb can cause component destruction or degradation. For example, an smd resistor typically has a maximum solder temperature of around 300 degrees celsius. So why risk ruining something just because you saw a video where they set it on fire and it worked, it could have been a lucky event. Anyway, thanks for watching.

    enjoy being an idiot and messing your watch while saying goodbye to your warranty and at the same time forgetting to upgrade to a better battery...

    The green light is a part of this watch as much as its black case, the rubber bracelet and the sounds it makes.
    So no, thanks.

      That one is simultaneously easier and harder, as someone who has inverted several Casio watches.
