      Same, I'm either FG or DC, I love geomatrical and sharp shapes on me, and there goes my thick, heavy curly hair so... i almost always wear it in a tight bun at the top of my head. :/ plus I have small face and small flat forehead, so I don't look good when it hides my face even a bit.
      I suspect I may be FG so next year I'll go pixie and see how it works for me

      I feel this so deeply-- I discovered kibbe around the same time rhat my hair went from barely wavy to suddenly being twice as curly -I had no idea what to do with the change -I had to relearn how to treat my hair as well as ended up relearning how to dress.
      I love floral prints and 50s style but now if I wear my hair down I find I look cartoonish in those clothes and instead I need to wear more sharp/Yang clothes in order to look balanced.

As a soft classic, I'm kind of bummed, but now I see why. I now understand why my natural hair looks best when I put it up (tamed and rounded) 😅

    I'm flamboyant natural (with what i believe to be some type of gamine essence) i love vintage fashion and for some reason whatever i do with my hair i either end up looking like a 70s rocker or like a glamorous 80s secretary, so i gave in and did a wet set based on a 1989 infomercial and i've never had so many genuine compliments on my hair some assumed it was my natural texture

      im in the exact same boat, and i really feel you. for so long i felt so ashamed of myself for being round and no matter what it wouldnt change, and im going through a slow recovery. after discovering romantic, and other romantic women and styles and these things, I’ve ever felt so confident in my body. being proud of the things I couldn’t change about myself, thinking they’re what makes me different and working around it, I’ve found them very beautiful. Being called delicate, and ‘round’ being a positive thing instead of negative, has really changed my life. you are not alone on this journey, and im cheering you on! and thank you to this channel and this community :)

      💛 Yes!!! Couldn’t agree more. I had the misfortune of being an impressionable teenager during the height of the “heroin chic” era 💀 which seriously impacted my self esteem and body image. No amount of weight loss could ever make me the Dramatic body type that was (and still is to a degree) pushed in the pop-culture. I have to say some of these suggestions for certain body types aren't practical for people who don't have wavy hair but are squarely in the curly or textured category. I do appreciate the concept of the overall shape. I'd recommend Frani Matthews or Merriam's videos if you are in those categories of 3B to textured hair.

      Yes I wish it were clearer how to follow lines for different textures. Merriam Style recommends mirroring the lines of your body with the silhouette of your hair, so the texture is less important than the outline. Think of Dramatic Grace Jones' sharp angular flat top or Dramatic Classic Gugu Mbatha-Raw's neat, round, asymmetrical looks.

    I’m pretty sure I’m theatrical romantic and can attest to this video being true for me at least. I LOVE. Like, I mean, LOOOOOVE big, wild looking curls. It’s just gorgeous. Princess Merida is hair goals in my mind. Oh the times I’ve tried to pull the wild look off… but it just looks extremely messy on me. Not in that powerful, ethereal sort of way, just plain “I curled my hair yesterday, partied all night and forgot to brush it this morning”. Very, very unflattering. Lush, long, soft, shiny curls look way better.
    Oh, and the side-part part is true too. Middle part looks a bit harsh, side-part looks pretty. Side bangs too!

  • @kobrien7945

    I struggle with some of these suggestions as someone who has naturally very curly hair. The weather gets to choose my style more than I.
    As much as I cannot choose my body type nor can I choose my hair style, which has become just as much who I am as any other part of my being.
    Fortunately I think I maybe a soft natural.
    And when all else fails a hat or scarf can do wonders to improve the overall look.

    • @cmscior
      @cmscior ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed - soft dramatic with 2C/3A hair - frizzy, curly/wavy, wild - I feel the suggested hairstyles for the body types don’t take peoples’ natural hair textures into account at all. How do you look your best if your natural texture doesn’t “suit” your body type? Bummer if we don’t want to hear style or roller set all the time.

      @@elliejeanroyden I know. The thing is everyone keeps using the same ladies as examples, so there's no real diversity, and women with actually curly hair are left helpless. Most of the women from the video have straight hair, and they curl it on occasion, while majority of curly women are looking for real advice on how to style and which haircuts to look for for their specific type of curls.

      Agreed. Merriam Style has some good videos on this and stresses that the outline or silhouette of the hair is most important and that any texture can suit any type. Ex. If you were a pure dramatic with tight coils, you would style them with a sharp geometric silhouette to go with your lines.

    Love the idea of the video but i'm a bit dissapointed that it does not focus on natural hair. Lot's of the examples are are not people with natural curls. It's more curls as a stylingchoice for people with streight hair. A few exeptions. Natural curly's can not choose their pattern. So if you're a soft gamine but you have small ringlets (3c -4c hair) it won't work? I 'm curious to see a video that focus more on how you can style your natural hair (cuts, lenghts, updo's) for the body types but working with what's allready there. Density, thickness and pattern are not a choice.

    I'm Soft Classic with 3B curly hair, the struggle is real. To help the girls in the same situation as me, here are some tips:
    - I like to wear my hair parted in the middle with both front pieces behind my ears;
    - My hair is usually long so the weight of the hair will keep it down;
    - I wear it in pleace, don't throw it to the sides too much or it will look frizzy and break our classic charm;
    - Don't over wet your hair so it doesn't look glued on your head, and don't move it too much because of the frizz, choose the side you want your hair and leave it like this.;
    - After you wash your hair use the leave in and DON'T press your curls shrinking them;
    - Make sure that you don't put too much hair behind your ears or they will look bigger, you can use a tiara or hair band to help;
    - Another good hair style is when you take the front pieces and tie it behind your head, it looks good too;
    - Braids are our best friend;
    - Other than that I use it entirely tied in a low bun or low ponytail.
    Hope my tips were helpful.

    For my fellow natural curlies reading this, if you're a dramatic or otherwise yang heavy and can't rock the floof, I bet long, protective styles would look killer on you! And you could choose the twist or braid size based on your best pattern size maybe 🤔 And of course these can probably work for other types too depending on how they're styled (as in up do's)
    A buzz is also an option. Or a half buzz or mohawk on shorter curls to show off your bone structure and curls at the same time, especially for a gamine who needs asymmetry. I've been considering that last one for myself as an FG 😅

    As a very dominant Ethereal and secondary Ingenue, I don’t fit any of the Kibbe categories you mention here! 🙈

    I have a love hate relationship with my hair. Because, while having straight hair that holds a curl well is nice, it's so STRAIGHT without styling and it doesn't suit my romantic features. Everything else is so rounded, the severe line of my natural hair doesn't do it like a set curl or wave.

    This was so interesting! Could you do a video like this but for straight hair? I'm pretty sure I'm a romantic body type but I have naturally pin straight hair that is really difficult to curl so most suggested romantic styles are just not practical for day to day wear.

    oMG this makes so much sense...i'm a soft classic (i'm pretty sure), and when my curls (which are 2c-3a) are messy, my whole look becomes frumpy! especially if my outfit is more relaxed. i've realized that if i get my hair in check, it REALLY boosts my whole look : )

My top is just smaller than my bottom. Does this make since and if this is the only difference am I still the romantic body type? Thanks so much!!!

    I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. I think that not knowing what kind of haircuts or hairstyles work for your face or body for curly hair is part of the reason why so many of us want to keep our hair straight. Some curly hairstyles just don't look good on me, and I have curly hair myself.
