    Great video! I wish more black women would use their platforms more to discuss how Kibbe could apply to black women. You are indeed a trailblazer! Unsurprisingly, Pinterest has a lot of helpful pins and boards that do include ideas for how Kibbe hair suggestions would look on black women. Personally, I've just decided to follow black celebrity FNs. Specifically Solange, because she fully understands her lines and what hair fits her which may be unbeknownst to her, aligns with Kibbe's standard.

      @Marygraphy Hi! I am a soft gamine in kibble but I was body typed by Elyssa here on TH-cam and she typed me as a Gamine with an undercurrent of Yin. With an essence of playful and inviting based off of a series of questions and conversation on zoom.

    I feel the bob is so universal and can really fit all types, depending upon how it's styled. I guess that can be said for quite a lot of haircuts though.
    I've been more interested in hair representation since my little cousin was born. She's only 5 and already equates straight hair with "pretty hair". No one told her that. It just goes to show how a lack of representation can send the message that what is not represented is not desirable, if that makes sense. She also wants her hair rainbow-colored and with stars shaved into it, but that's not quite as worrisome.

    • @franibeard
      @franibeard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's amazing the unspoken messages we receive from such a young age. I remember feeling that way about my hair, especially because I got it straightened for the first time when I was about 6 years old. Very formative years for such a limiting message about what is/isn't beautiful.

    • @unneighborlyarcades6356
      @unneighborlyarcades6356 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@franibeard It's really upsetting and, as a white lady myself, difficult to know whether I am being part of the problem even if by complacency. It's really easy when you're part of a majority to not think about representation because it never affects you. I think that's probably why there is such a lack of information for non-white women in quite a few style systems and color theories. (I could go on a whole rant on seasonal color analyses.) Back before I knew of Kibbe and gamines, I chopped all my hair off because my little cousin (same girl, who I should clarify is black I suppose. I forget people can't read minds.) at the age of 1 and some change said she wanted hair like mine. Maybe that was an overreaction, but I didn't know how to communicate to her that all hair is beautiful at the time.

    Love this! I’m a soft natural. I love wearing twist outs, especially when they’ve lost a lot of definition and more effortlessly fluffy. And I’d like to have locs one day. I get the natural description lined up perfectly!

    I am a soft classic and yes agree on the hairstyle being neat. I do a lot of flat twists, low buns and plaits. When I do wear my hair out I make sure it's structured and not all crazy.

  • @ngozijanea
    @ngozijanea 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    This video is sooooo needed! I think I'm a soft dramatic and a great style for my hair is a twist out cut into an asymmetrical bob. With my shrinkage, the cut brings in some angularity that highlights my cheekbones, while my curls bring the rounded shapes that compliment my body. You've got me thinking about other elements to incorporate as I develop my style. Thank you 💛

    I appreciate this channel sooo much. I am soft gamine(well I did get tr once but I’m certain sg) I love the style ideas and I’ve always had long hair my entire life😅 but I do feel more myself when it’s shorter/natural fluffed air dried hair. Or basically I love volume/natural lived in look ,over definition so I think like flexi rods, the rollers if wanting to stretch the hair

  • @alyjahflakes
    @alyjahflakes ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think I’ve settled on dramatic classic and I agree with what you say. I prefer my hair to be neat, I never frizz up my curls by picking or diffusing them- I feel best and most put together when my hair is defined or pulled back. I prefer middle parts or a very slight side part but usually when I wear my hair down.

    Great video. As I understand, the outline of the hair is to be the focus. Sharp vs. Rounded outline.
    As a Dramatic who doesn't want a blunt bob, I will take the advice for long hair. Thanks.
    I have naturally fluffy, fine hair that does what it wants and does not do "sleek" and "sharp". As I recently did a butterfly cut that makes me look very unpolished, I will now leave my hair alone and do the long line thing. I have always tried to soften my facial features with face framing layers, a big no for a D, and Romantic and Natural lines in clothing to look more "feminine" lol. And felt miserable accordingly, until I found Kibbe.

    Love the content. This is a much needed space as it taylors to ethnic women but using Kibbe's principles. The only feedback I would have is it would be amazing to provide timestamps in your discription for your viewers. So if someone wants to just get the advice for a soft dramatic lets say, they can refer to that exact point from the provided timestamp.

    So happy i found this video! I've just recently discovered the kibbe body types. I'm a soft classic. I've shaved my head a couple of times - fun but too much yang. I'm finally growing it out - about 5 inches with shrinkage. And add some texture with a sponge and i think i could wear my hair like this forever. It's such a classic look but the texture adds such a softness 💖 thought i'd share.

    I’m grateful for your content! I recently discovered that I’m a Soft Natural and not a Theatrical Romantic. It’s led me to try to find a protective style that will work with my body, and I think, based on your suggestion, that I’ll try Senegalese Twists because they will resemble the dreadlock look the most.

    What about a soft dramatic with chin length locs? I just stated to Under stand the kibbe method and it explained why I liked certain clothes on my body. I mean I finally understand about the long vertical lines. I would always alway get compliments when wearing my lines. And why I looked better with longer hair. I had my head buzzed cut for awhile and when I grew it back it was I looked better in my clothes. There is really something about this kibbe method. I just subscribed to your channel because I finally found some representation.
