I think the designers should have spent more time on the Katana re-designing the airbox to get a bigger fuel capacity ,this model wouldn't be needed! I like the new lights!
I didn't even think about this but you are right. If they would have done this I likely would have spent the extra on the Katana. I love the design but the fuel capacity is WAY to low. I just can't deal with a dirtbike sized gas tank on a liter bike.
Suzuki will absolutely have to redesign the Katana to give it a bigger tank once they put this Euro 5 engine in it imminently. From the old to new engine, Suzuki state that mpg drops from 53 to 46 meaning in the real world the Katana has a max fuel range of up to 130 miles currently if you do typicall varied riding but maybe 100 if you thrashed it. With the new one that could equate to 80-100 miles maybe which would be absolutely ridiculous. I still reckon Suzuki will only go to about 14 litres meaning it will essentially have the same range as the current one. It will also probably gain weight & be approaching 220kg wet which is getting a bit porky too.
@@williamrae9954 Yes not getting the new colours was a bit disappointing but they'll have to do something with it as I don't think they'll sell many if the fuel consumption gets even worse.
I think the problem is that people are comparing it with the other above-litre super nakeds. If we compare it with bikes on the same price range, which are essentially 750-900 cc nakeds, it's an excellent, value for money deal! Good job Suzuki.
I cannot say anything but praise Suzuki for a well Job done. Lots of added Electronics for 2021 Model. I owned 2020 GSX-S1000ZA (Oort Gray), I have nothing to Complain, on 2020 Model, they Fixed the Snatchiness of Throttle Response, it was not Jerky anymore. and 2021 has Ride-By-Wire Electronic Throttle System so the Rider can Enjoy more in operating the Throttle. VisorDown is the Best, when it comes to Reviewing Motorcycles, has Clearer and More Detailed than anyone. Speaking All of the Bikes.
It's been a while since Suzuki invented anything, but owners don't care. They want a solid bike that does everything well (enough) without costing a fortune, and I am pretty sure that's what they will get with this one.
Agree - Suzuki has definitely gone after the strapped-for-cash market. If price is not your biggest concern they have nothing to offer you: they're heavier than the competition, they have outdated electronics, they are underpowered, their styling is questionable at best... I think it's a shame, to be honest. 20 years ago I would've never guessed the mighty Suzuki brand would one day be going down this route.
Suzuki and Kawasaki, (where's Yamaha and Honda?) are doing what only the Japanese seem to be able to do: Low maintenance, affordable, unbreakable, very fast, competent motorcycles that don't need fanfare. They've always done this and kept classy doing it. (Well, there were a few crazy machines, but I blame that on the American market. We got a few in Canada.) Z1000 rider in BC, and I'll wear out before it does. Cheers.
Finnally Suzuki is doing something. good. Only small negative is a noon TFT screen. Other equipment is great. First time in a long time Visordown dont have a lot of negatives to say about Suzuki bike 👍
I have the new 750, its a great laugh, 114bhp. Really light, bmx steering, 180 rear section on S21s, K5 engine. Knock it all you want, but its super street fast, one down one up on the cogs. Its so much fun. I sold my gen one busa for this......yes busa is legend, but red a buss in secon and its jail or dead, read a gsx in second and you're deaf and grinning
Don't really get the hate for the lights, think it looks sharp. LED lights don't need a huge reflector housing for a halogen bulb! Quality review, what was your final time on the hillclimb?
Had mine a year now after seeing all reviews and buying on. Ride several bikes all a 1000 cc. Took this one to Spain, can't really fault it at all. Done lot of mountain roads and twisty main roads .Took this over my gs1250 thinking 🤔, have I done right thing ,yes was great, reliable to. Just have to travel light as not a lot of room for gear. 20tlr rear kriega and a 15 ltr backpack. Great review Toad. Thanks.
I honestly like the styling on the 2016-2020 better. I’ve had mine for going on 4 years, and it’s been a really fine motorcycle. Next year I’m going to install a full aftermarket exhaust, do some brake stuff, add a quick shifter and a dynotune/ECU flash. I think she’ll be perfect at that point!
Not a head Turner like a Monster or a street triple, but a very handsome, well- proportioned bike. Although most litre naked bikes are ahead of it when it comes to tech, but for the price, it's a brilliant bike.
Good review. I like the look except the dash could have been moved back giving the bike a cleaner looking side profile, like KTM did with the Super Duke R.
Suzuki give kawaskai z1 a challenge now it have a valky looks unlike the old gsxs pug lamo headlight i might prefer gsxs 150 headlamo insted of headlight of 2018 headlight of gsxs 1000
My thoughts are it's a 2016 S1000R (which is a great bike) with Suzuki reliability, which makes it an amazing bike and a killer value. Definitely my next daily.
I have the same issue with the heavy clutch and the far away lever on my 2018 GSXS 750. Amazing bike otherwise. Just need to learn how to change a clutch lever I guess.
Nice review Toad, Thanks. Where I live the MT09SP, Z900, Street Triple R and the new GSX S1000 all cost the same, give or take a few hundred pounds. Which one would you prefer to have in your garage??
The forks look like they almost have no travel with the rider weight on the bike. Look like it’s almost bottomed out. Maybe the preload needs to be adjusted.
I didn't think this updated model would grow on me.. but it is! Nice review in this video. Also some great camera work. I'm feeling a test ride is imminent when the local dealer takes delivery.
it looks like a monster... no way i want such a big bike.... theres no point or reason. i want a really agile bike with a nice exhaust noise and good brakes.... thats it.
Would you trade your sv650 for one or are you still happy with your choice of the SV650? I am thinking about buying a SV650 and this bike also intrigued me!
Toad, would you review the Z1000r please?. It seems to be the super naked the world forgot. They are possibly the cheapest 1000cc currently. I would be interested to know how it does against the gsx s or even the z900. I opted for the cheaper z900 but would be interested in your take on the Z1000 and where it sits in today's world.. thanks
You say the traction control was too intrusive? Looking at the screen on the video you can see the TC kicking in loads, but what do you expect when you have it set on 5 the most intrusive setting ? Just turn it down 🤣
if you go to the suzuki website, they only show a 2020 model, and a 2022 model. anyone know what's up with that? maybe the one reviewed here is actually the 2022?
Yeah it’s ugly, but so is every other modern naked bike. That engine and the price makes this a great bang for your buck. Seems like a great street bike. Toad, how’s the seat height? You mentioned you are 5’6” which is my height, but what’s your inseam?
Nice review. I like it, but not in the blue, looks much better in the other colours. The best thing about this bike is the price & that shouldn't be overlooked as it costs 2/3rds or 1/2 the price of the top super nakeds & on the road I'll wager it's not half the bike. It's not special as such but it's a great value, bulletproof, fun bike.
So i took this out for a test ride the other day. Did you notice the jerky throttle or was this perhaps just my model? I was on a long straight and decided to open it up while riding at normal speed and it was a very noticeable time delay from my cruising speed to monster speed. which caused a jerk motion. Did you experience this? any idea why it does this?
Expensive that for a naked bike, looks like there using parts from the Katana which didn’t sell great.. maybe they have lots of parts that need to be used up, Not a big fan of this and the new headlight looks like the new my-09 Much prefer the z1000 look still looks great. the previous gsx-s1000 didn’t sell too great didn’t see many out and was always on a deal at dealerships

So ergo's are great if you are between 5'10" and 6'?🤔 I felt very upright and wide on the bars on the old model. I am 6'2". That the handlebar is higher and closer does not sound appealing - guess I have to try it to find out. Coming from a VFR 800. Thanks for the review!
Change to offset risers and a bar of your choice if you’re a bigger guy. Same with springing suspension to your weight. Nonsense reason to critique a bike.
No excuse not to have a cruise control if it has a ride-by-wire throttle now. Yea, it might increase the price a bit but honestly it's a wrist-saver. And possibly a life-saver as well. IMU, who gives a shit, to be honest. Up & down quickshifter and a cruise control are pretty much the only "new" techs I'd like in a bike. Especially in a bike which is meant as a do-it-all kind of a bike.
I think the designers should have spent more time on the Katana re-designing the airbox to get a bigger fuel capacity ,this model wouldn't be needed! I like the new lights!

I know a lot of people hate the front but I really like it. This is proper old school Suzuki, cheap hooligan thrills.

It's great value for money! That's why when I saw an Mt10 with 2000 miles for 10k USD I jumped on it!
@@zackphelps3052 Cheers, man!
I acutally like this headlight design. It's kinda similar to the MT-10 but IMO better executed. Reminds me of a sport car from the 80s.
The front face become the best one in the segment , I love it more and more

Suzuki are well know for their evolution rather than revolution so I think they have nailed it for the price. 👍😎

I see it more as competing with the likes of the current MT-10 and CB1000r price wise more so than those hyper naked Italian models.

Toad, i alwayls love your great reviews - thx alot!
When you compare it to the Z900, which one would you prefer?
The big question is; is this a much more powerful alternative to an MT09 or a much more affordable alternative to a Speed Triple?
It has more power that the MT09 but the Yamaha would be more exciting to ride on the road.
Why not compare this too MT 10

At that price with that lovely motor inside, the bike looks kind of decent in certain angles 😄
