One thing (amongst the myriad of other issues) in this version that never seems to get addressed is the fact that the difficulty settings are out of whack. If you choose normal action mode, you'll get the appropriate amount of ammo and health items, but the amount of enemies (and the amount of damage they can tolerate, as well as deal out) will be the same as hard action mode.. One single enemy takes 1 pistol clip + to die and that was never, ever the case on Normal mode in the PS2 version, that's Hard mode.. Thus, it's utterly unplayable in Normal Action mode. You *need* to choose either Easy (lol) or actual Hard mode!
They butchered the HD Collection. If you want Silent Hill 2&3 in HD, then just play them on PCSX2 with the right settings, then increase the internal resolution and turn antialiasing on. However, even the vanilla PS2 versions look and play better than the HD Collection. In addition to the replaced voice acting in 3, and myriad bugs, they also screwed up the fog effects in the "HD" versions.

It was one of the worst ones because they made a low budget compared to the original version of the ps2 which by the way surprises me to see the quality it has for a ps2 game without a doubt if you are going to play Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 it's better on ps2 by far.
I wish Konami could just port the PC versions of Silent Hill 2,3, and 4 to Steam. No remaster bullshit, no changes to the voice acting, just the game itself. If there is any compatibility issues with modern hardware. Fix it, then port it. Btw, Heather sounds way too young in the HD version of the game.
The original version looks way better, but I don't think they ruined it like other people are claiming. It just feels like a budget alternative more than anything else.

philhalo66 You aren't looking at any of the details of the original. This is a fake remaster. This doesn't utlize blueray format of the ps3, but this is upscaled shit ( xbox 360 and ps3 ). The PS2 Original looks better, look at the freaking smoke particles whenever your character breathes. Just take a look at the lighting, very impressive for ps2 standards.
PS 2 version is awesome ! The Japanese developers lost the vocales for all the games and the American devs had to make the vocales once again! they have screwed the original voice acting !
I find it strange that in the HD collection, you have the option to choose between the old and new voices (which are utter bullcrap) when you play Silent Hill 2, but you don't have an option for Silent Hill 3. Being the fact that I've only played the HD collection, I don't mind Heather 's voice. She's not an innocent child, she's been through some stuff, and the original voice does make her sound young (which I guess is what some people like). i don't understand why people keep having to fight instead of just being happen that there was a re release at all.
Because we're NOT happy there was a re-release. That kind of stuff makes people that enjoy the old one have to look HARDER for the original because the prices will go up more than it already is. :'( Aside from it affecting the value of the original, at least make a remaster SUPERIOR. ._. Example: I see NO problem with the Remaster of Resident Evil Remake. Not a SINGLE problem. Nothing that the Remake did better than Remaster I can see.... And I got all achievements plus more and a diehard RE fan. That's an example or a masterpiece remaster. This isn't. LOL Just don't make it, is my thing. Because sometimes people like me say "OH I LOVE SILENT HILL!" And buy it.. Then find out my money is gone forever... ;-;
I see... Well, I was just starting out with the series, and I was super excited to buy it, because two of the games were together. And yeah, I've noticed graphical differences when I watch PS2 let's plays, especially with the fog. I was, and still am, just happy to have the games.

I hate all the 'hd remakes / hd remasters'. Why ? Because you can enjoy modern and betters textures/light effects (and it's not even the case here...) but the original vision of the developers is lost. The better way to play Silent Hill 3 is on emulation or on your PS2 if you have it.

ps2 is way better,hd version has a lot of bugs, the new voices sucks, and theres no FUCKING FOG!!
mrsiggia while excessive fog was implemented to coop with the limitations of the ps2, in silent hills case worked out perfectly, not only did it look beautifully realistic, but added so much more atmosphere and tension, looking at these remastered versions, everything looks so plain & empty, no grain or grit
Patrick Kearns the fog in the hd version looks like a wall of fog that moves with he scenario,
konami just cant get anything right anymore now can they?
+Patrick Kearns not only that, the ps2 had special hardware for that fog and the hd verson occasionally crashes.
DAMMIT THE NEW VOICES ARE BETTER! Am I the only person who feels that way?
When you play it on ps3/360/xone without having ps2 nearby, it’s not that bad. Like resident evil 4 hd in comparison to the original.
That moment when the company want to make HD "cos everybody is doing that" without source material cos they lost it. Then are trying sell it anyway to earn extra cash and lose respect even more.
How did they loose it ! Lol
@@dukenukem7043 most game companies after finishing their titles save the coding and files. Archiving them so they can be used later. (Usually for a type of hd re-release on future consoles or simple porting)
However konami in all their fucking grace and wisdom, thought it smart to completely delete everything after the initial release on ps2. Therefore making it much harder to port or "remaster" without the original stuff.
@@Nova-je6nq can't they just use a copy of an original ps2 game and take that information out using advanced technology? It's 2020.
@@Nathan_Hale. ehhh...I cant say that I know all the intricacies about it. I just know that theres some diffrence's between the version released to the public and the original source.
PS2 WIN . . .
Jesus Christ, Heather's new voice in the HD version is fucking terrible!
No hay niebla?! NO HAY PUTA NIEBLA?!!! Que carajos Konami?! Por que mierda? Su voz parece de una estrella porno! Las texturas sucias, ensangrentadas y oxidadas desaparecieron! No jodas!
Amigo calmate
Ya sabes, konami solo quería platita
Just to mention a few things from the beggining of HD version.
1.- Hajinx Team couldn't emulate same "blurry stains" effect in loading screen.
2.- Fog lack everywhere! (most noticiable outside like streets, roofs, etc)
3.- I barely can stand Heather's annoying and expresioneless voice.
Anyway, I know there's much more unfixed or even made it worse details through the whole HD collection, but I can't help bump into each of them after have been playing the PS2 version for over a decade.
+Alex Townsend
I watched a "HD Collection" playthrough recently and I was kinda chocked how many things they fucked up.
From swapped textures, missing graphics, fucked up cutscenes without letterboxes, cutscenes with added overlays, streched cutscenes, inexcusable bad sound mixing, missing soundeffects to changed soundeffects, horrible voice acting and alot of glitches and bugs..... and many many maaany other things.
HOW IN THE HELL DID IT SHIP THIS WAY!?
Yeah, like you said. They couldn't even reproduce the effect of the loading screen....
That's both sad and funny at the same time!
I’m new to the series tho is it worth it on Xbox because I bought Silent hill 2 and 3 HD collection ?
@@martin.aguilar.a As a newbie in SH games, I would say it doesn't matter if you start playing the HD collection, because you won't note a huge difference until you play the original game a couple of times.
@@alextownsend3289 I tried to buy the original ones for the PS2 cuz I have PS2, but there expensive so simple I have no choice but just the HD collection on Xbox 360 then.
@@martin.aguilar.a better to get pirate dont play hd
i cant really say any voice is bad. i feel like both voices had their pros and cons. like some lines the newer dub acted out better than the old dub and vice versa
I think that’s really didn’t bothered me in SH3 I liked the new voice but in other hand with SH2 I preferred the original voice
That's why playing the PC version modded to support 1080p or higher/60 fps or higher is the best way to go. Best presentation while also keeping the original voices lol.
Yeah, pc wins again. ..Yeah yeah
I got the HD collection because it was obviously more affordable. It's crazy how much of the fog is gone, i mean that's a part of Silent Hills identity. Obviously i had no way of knowing it was even missing until i saw this video. I dont fault any new fan like myself for choosing to buy the HD collection over the originals which are $100 to $300 each.
jajajaja Silent Hill withouth a FOG? What next metal gear witouth a snake?
Godzilla without Godzilla....... Oh wait 1998 Godzilla even though thats not even Godzilla....
When i saw Godzilla 1998 i thought it was Jurassic Park. When I see Silent Hill HD collection, i see Tom hullet ruining the series
jajajaja good bro!

Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Rising and
Metal Gear Survival exist, dummy.
Metal gear survive
Oh wow...the PS2 version is way better and creepier too....and so nostalgic for me xD I remember being like eight years old, huddled up on the couch in the air conditing in Summer during the night, watching my mum play until all hours of the night
Yeah silent hill 2 and 3 on pstwo is better.
Oh wow, that sounds amazing! And it's so cool that your mum was alright with you experiencing the brilliant horror of Silent Hill at a young age. :D
You have one brave mom
@@dadee9643 You think females are supposed to be scared of stupid things like a horror game? Lol!
Really? I didn't even noticed. Played it like 2 or 3 times on normal mode and ended up with tons of ammo at the end. Never played the original tho
@@CryogenicBanner Yeah, people who's never played the original probably won't notice
Really why re-recording the voices? Was it some sort of copyright problem or just a dumb decision?

SH1,2,3,4 is designed for a CRT image. When in these games you put HD resolution, then immediately, for a kilometer, you can see that the background is made of sprites, low quality textures, which is all chopped, angular (low poly). Most, in general, FullHD put in the PS1 emulators and believe that the graphics have become better ... P.S. The video did not watch, just decided to leave the comments)
Heather sounds like a middle aged adult in the HD version.
yes she sounds worse in hd version, but the detective voice is way better
I think the hd is a little bit more structured.
Graphically HD is better, but PS2 has better voice actors. I do prefer Douglas' HD voice more though.
It was one of the worst ones because they made a low budget compared to the original version of the ps2 which by the way surprises me to see the quality it has for a ps2 game without a doubt if you are going to play Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 it's better on ps2 by far.
PS2 Is still much more better and works perfectly...but in the HD version there are damn bugs sometimes!
So they just decided fog was not necessary in the HD version? lol
It's like they really did want to kill Silent Hill.
I don’t get it why is everyone hating the remastered ? It’s my first time too see Silent Hill 2 and 3.
It's mostly due to nostalgia and a primacy effect cognitive bias. The HD collection is totally fine.
Lapis Lazuli well I have ps2 tho, but i’m thinking that I need to get a memory card before I buy Silent hill 2 and 3

So Silent Hill 3 HD is messed up as well? Thought it was only Silent Hill 2
THE VOICE KILLS ME
I wish Konami could just port the PC versions of Silent Hill 2,3, and 4 to Steam. No remaster bullshit, no changes to the voice acting, just the game itself. If there is any compatibility issues with modern hardware. Fix it, then port it.
Btw, Heather sounds way too young in the HD version of the game.
There are already retail versions of the games...
The original version looks way better, but I don't think they ruined it like other people are claiming. It just feels like a budget alternative more than anything else.
How can an HD version be inferior to an older game? Remove your nostalgia glasses, kid.
R.I.P. Fog....

They look the same to me... But Silent hill 3 looks like a PS3 and 360 game on a ps2. Impressed...
Quinn The Quartz you need to have your eyes checked dude because your blind as hell
philhalo66 Clearly the ps2 game LOOKS BETTER! Has more details like fog. :)
***** I totally disagree with the HD. The Original kicks more ass, look at the cold breath, look at the reflection on the metal. Look at bunny how it has a very doom and gloom look to it. Look where there is some cold breath and white fog. The HD collection doesn't have those.
philhalo66 You aren't looking at any of the details of the original.

Silent hill proves that not all HD enhancements are better... ♥
PS 2 version is awesome ! The Japanese developers lost the vocales for all the games and the American devs had to make the vocales once again! they have screwed the original voice acting !
You sure about that.
We need a remake of the collection
I find it strange that in the HD collection, you have the option to choose between the old and new voices (which are utter bullcrap) when you play Silent Hill 2, but you don't have an option for Silent Hill 3. Being the fact that I've only played the HD collection, I don't mind Heather 's voice. She's not an innocent child, she's been through some stuff, and the original voice does make her sound young (which I guess is what some people like).
i don't understand why people keep having to fight instead of just being happen that there was a re release at all.
Because we're NOT happy there was a re-release. That kind of stuff makes people that enjoy the old one have to look HARDER for the original because the prices will go up more than it already is. :'(
Aside from it affecting the value of the original, at least make a remaster SUPERIOR. ._. Example: I see NO problem with the Remaster of Resident Evil Remake. Not a SINGLE problem. Nothing that the Remake did better than Remaster I can see.... And I got all achievements plus more and a diehard RE fan. That's an example or a masterpiece remaster. This isn't. LOL Just don't make it, is my thing. Because sometimes people like me say "OH I LOVE SILENT HILL!" And buy it.. Then find out my money is gone forever... ;-;

HD?? maybe they mean UD (Undo Definition) lol
"What if we just took the fuckin' fog out of Silent Hill?"
"Are you sure we should do that, Tom? Sounds like a bad idea."
