The way Death is portrayed different depending on each country is amazing, it really shows up some cultural characteristics, is beautiful. And Junsu... you will always be my fave ❤
0:26 the hungarian one, Szilveszter P. Szabó's performance is something different...He is absolute majestic and his voice, and the whole man is beautiful. I love him, though i did like all the other performances too.
1:30 That Rudolf is a real standout DAMN I rarely notice his performance but that’s impressive Also I just LOVE the Viennese tradition of fully manhandling Rudolf, it almost feels like Máté and Mark are competing to see who can shake the poor thing harder 😆
I just got into this musical, and it's really interesting to see the different countries' interpretations of it, thank you! Also ahhh your icon is from Legend of the Seeker! Love that show!!
My favourite has always been Mark and Lukas. But I did like how they did the 'Emperor Rudolf' in the 2012 Hungarian one, and I really liked the revolution focus they gave the song in the Korean version with the flags and platform.
Thanks for the compilation, it's eye opening to see different countries' interpretion. The most captivating for me are the German 2015, Korea 2013. I like the calm and graceful Tod played by the German actor, like things are all under control which Rudolf will not be able to escape his destiny. The Korean version is the one that got me into musical, this Tod is intense and able to draw me in to the point I do feel intimidated by death. Incredible acting and know well to use his voice in making such atmosphere. Anyhow awesome work by all actors😍
Great work! Nowadays this song is quite popular in Russian language performed by Russian musical singers. There is no official version of Elisabeth in Russian tho.
The best "deaths" to me are: Uwe, Mate, and Junsu. The best Elisabeth for me remains Pia. But omg i adore this musicial and I am ALWAYS happy to listen to other casts. The Hungarian singer was pretty cool!
2:26 Not to sound too thirsty or anything but I'd give half of my life and my first born child just to be grabbed like that by this dude... like honestly, look at him
You. Are. Incredible. This is my favorite song of the musical and you did the editing so well!! I find the Hungarian version of Elisabeth quite amusing since they did a totally different spin on it. I'm still very used to the original Viennese version. What do you think? (Also kinda curious why you choose the bootleg over the 2005 Wien revival dvd.)
My introduction to the musical was the Hungarian version so it’ll always be my favorite, but that’s not the only reason. I find the Hungarian approach to the story more personal and emotional and the production more energetic due to the choreography and the passionate performances. And to be honest most of the symbolism of the Vienna version is lost on me. I had to use the bootleg over the dvd due to copyright. I used to have a different version of this multi-language video with the dvd version in it, but TH-cam took it down because of it. So this was the next best thing I could do to include the revival version.
@@ionamilne3455 the Hungarian version is a non-replica production. It had a different set and costume design from the Austrian version. The character of Death is the most different, he is more otherwordly and has a rather androgynous appearance. Also the Hungarian version is more dynamic in my opinion, besides the ever-moving stage and choreoraphy the performances are more passionate, the characters' emotions are more in focus especially Elisabeth's stuggle to beak free from her constrains. And yes, the Hungarian historical events in the musical have more prominence.
Good choice. By the way Mate is also Hungarian, he is from my hometown and went to school with my older brother. I can't believe how well he's done for himself! x
Szabo is awesome at Death, but he is a fucking amazing Tybalt (how ironic that two Deaths, him and Mark are Tybalts, and two Deaths were also Maxim, him and Uwe) 1 year edit to say: THREE deaths are now Maxim- Mark is now Maxim!
I only found these 2 Korean versions when I made the video. Do you have the video with Jeon Dong Suk? But the truth is that there are many actors (alternative cast) in these roles in every version so I try to use only the main cast.
aci01 Actually, Jeon Dong Suk was, with Xia Junsu, the main. It’s just that Xia had already fame because of TVXQ, but Dong Suk I know is very famous in his country and Japan. Check it, I think you would like this version too. Thanks for the video, I love this musical.
Dong Suk started as Rudolf, then became Tod. He sang the part of Rudolf during his 10th Anniversary concert. Here he is playing Rudolf to Uwe Kroger's Tod. th-cam.com/video/PtfyETsIc-E/w-d-xo.html
I've been listening to American Psycho the musical and it just occured to me that Mark Seibert is practically made to play Patrick Bateman XD He would nail that role IMO
Okay.. I know nothing about this musical. But from what i can see, in other version, 'death' appears to control the guy like a puppet. But in the korean version, instead of controlling like a puppet, junsu use 'mind' game instead.
Anyone know who the 1996 Hungarian Der Tod is? He's got fantastic stage presence. Unfortunately the only Hungarian Deaths I know by name are Mate Kamaras and Slyvester Szabo :(
@@MadameChristie Yes, but Mester Tamás is first and foremost a rock musician who only ever played Der Tod, while Vikidal Gyula got into acting and also became a well-accomplished musical actor.
It's not out of the question, but I haven't planned to make one for those musicals yet. But if there're suggestions for specific songs I might make them in the future.
aci01 I've got a few to start you off. You could do The title song from Phantom of the Opera, On My Own from Les Miserables, or This is the Moment from Jekyll and Hyde. Thanks for the suggestions! I've just started to collect the On My Own versions today, so your timing is perfect. However I'm not sure when I'll make it into a video, but I will.
I'm not going to ask a stupid question like which performance out of them all is anyone's favourite, but I am going to ask an equally silly question of out of the various performances we've seen here which did you like the best - meaning say out of the two Korean footage ones, the several German/Austrian productions, the two Hungarian productions etc?

I love the editing so much, but I love how the germans all have the same choreo in the chorus, i love it so much honestly. (I love the actors🥰)
