I don't know how or why this came up in my recommended videos, but it's cool. Thank goodness for Google Translate so I could figure out that this is from a Japanese production of Elisabeth featuring Yu Shirota and Mari Hanafusa. Gotta say, I can see the David Bowie influence in Yu Shirota's performance. Even the costuming reminds me of his iconic role as Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth. (And yes, the character he's playing was written as being is based on a combination of Heinrich Heine and David Bowie.)
English Translation (approximate): - For your love I am able to face against His Majesty the Emperor. But you chose him and now you intend to escape from me. The love that you two profess is nothing more than a farce. And, while in the arms of his majesty, with great sweetness, you smile at me placidly. - That's a lie! - The last dance belongs only to me. You are destined to dance with me. The Habsburgs are declining. The guests in the hall hold their breath. Our duet can't wait any longer. The last dance belongs only to me. You are destined to dance with me. All this time I have been watching you from the dark. So, the final victor will be me. The last dance belongs only to me. You are destined to dance with me. The last dance belongs only to me. You are destined to dance with me. All this time I have been watching you from the dark. So, the final victor will be me.
This is a story about Emperor Franz Joseph's wife, Elizabeth. She was very young (15 or 16) when she married him. At her wedding, Death personified attends as a guest. Death and Elizabeth fell in love earlier in the play, before she met Franz Joseph, when she almost died after a fall and he couldn't bring himself to take her. Her relationship with Death personified is the underlying theme and love triangle in the story. In this piece, he warns her that even though she's giving her time and body to the Austrian emperor, that she belongs to him and that *HE* will have the last dance. What's absolutely lovely about this is that a German play about an Austrian empress (she was NOT Hungarian) has been adapted in Japanese. It has also been done (very well, I might add) in Korean with Kim Junsu playing the role of Der Tod (Death) and of course, the German version with Mark Seibert. The German version is available with subtitles for anyone that wants to get the whole story. Just search for Elizabeth das Musical English subtitles. Just google 'musical elisabeth - the last dance lyrics' and you'll get them :) no need for subtitles!
Yu shirota really does look like a prince ^^
Honestly I clicked on this hoping to find a Labyrinth musical. I'm not entirely disappointed, but I'll keep looking for my Labyrinth musical elsewhere
Edit cool cape and coreography though!
It's been a while since I last saw Shirota Yu. Good thing TH-cam recommended this to me :)
I knew I recognized him from my days of watching J-dramas, but I couldn't pinpoint his name! Lol. Thanks! (I was thinking of his appearance in the 2007 Hana Kimi, which I've watched half a dozen times by now... does he age!?)
@@Emilytea He's probably a vampire of some sort.

I don't know what I'm doing here but DAMN I like this song
Amazing! I clicked it thinking it might be Tanz der Vampire, but when I heard the music I was like... ELISABETH?!?! Amazing singer/actor playing Death!
Please put up more scenes with this cast. I really am hungry for more of Yu Shirota in this role! Could you put up the scene between Death and Rudolf? “Yami ga Hirogaru”.
This reminds me of Labyrinth she's looking like Jennifer Connolly and he looks like David Bowie my childhood coming to life
Я не знаю как это попало ко мне в рекомендации, но согласитесь что актёр очень красивый ;)))))❤✨
