I have use skywatch.ai (look in the description for my referral link), they are great and I personally use them myself! For a quiet drone, the smaller the better.
This has always been a sticky problem with the the clients that I work for. What to charge and what products work best for the clients needs. Recently I have been looking into the 3D mapping world but I have been hesitant because of the $$. I know it has been cheaper than ever to get into this and I have been approached by a couple of business to provide the service. I currently have been flying drones commercially for 6 years but mainly just real estate. My go to is my Mavic 2 pro ( yes I know its bottom of the barrel) but its a very capable drone for I currently do. However I know it will not cut it for 3D mapping not even close. So my question is what would you recommend for the next level of drone? That will provide good data points for doing 3D mapping? But still not breaking the bank for a small operation. Thank you in Advance!
Loved this comment as this resonated with me from my roots of getting into mapping. I started out with the Mavic 2 Pro for mapping 3 years ago! It’s enough to get your foot in the door and is perfectly suitable for some general work with contractors on sites where what want spot checks on! M2P and P4Pare what 95% of my pilots are still flying to this day!
@@DylanGorman been flying with the original phantom 4 and the mini 2. Just got the matrice 300 and an m30t on order. I work with a landfill to provide aerial 3D data as well as methane detecting and thermography. Would love to know how your company works 👍🏼
I'm just jumping into the drone world, but I'm in 100%. I'm actually looking to get involved mapping. We love to travel was it difficult to get travel jobs?
Travel jobs are the most common actually! There’s really never a job that’s just 10-15 miles away (unless you live in massive urban areas)! Funny enough I’m traveling from FL to AZ next week for 2 weeks of flying properties!
Looking to buy the Mavic 3 right now to really start this work. I have been flying the Mini 2 since launch. I was interested in Drone Deploy seeing your videos but I found out the Mavic 3 is not supported yet. Got any suggestions?
Hey, thanks for checking out the video! For drone mapping, I would suggest the P4Pro v2 or the Mavic 2 Pro. I know these are hard to come by nowadays but when it comes to mapping it's the best entry-level drone that you can get. I still don't know when Drone Deploy will support the Mavic 3 drones, it is more of a DJI thing as they have not yet released the SDK for anyone to make 3rd party apps for it! If you still have the Mini 2, I would check out Litchi, they make a $25 app that works for doing basic mapping with the Mini 2! I hope that answers some questions!
Whats your experience level, what industry would you be going after, what software would you be using to process it in, how big of a scan are you doing? All of these come into factor when determining a price. For simple scans I would charge between $75-$275 depending on what the final deliverable is!

As a retired Contractor it was interesting hearing your biz advice, undercutting for example, or lowballing as we call it. Basically there are just two many folks not bright enough to understand you cant charge less than it costs you to provide services legitimately over time with the proper equipment. I would be careful as your industry grows though, coordination between players becomes price fixing at a certain point and has been the downfall of many in various industries.

This will be a bit easier on my body and a good transition for me since I am a technical kind of person, and I don't mind traveling. Thanks for the video, it clued me in on a couple more aspects of the service.
@@kylemchugh276 after further thought I have decided this is not a viable option. The need for drone operators is like 1% and the need for plumbers is extraordinary I can imagine also HVAC in the right locations is also in high demand. Drone operators, no not really.
When I discovered drones (late 2018), I jumped in with both feet going from a Spark to Inspire 2. Then the icing on the cake, I was able to get Level 1 Certified in Thermal for free. So what did I do?, I got my I2 rigged for thermal. I got hired to work an oil tank field in Cushing, OK (huge oil tank farm) and then Covid hit and I lost the job. Probably a good thing because the organization that hired me wasn't the owner of the tank field. Never got another hit for thermal so that ended up being an expensive lesson learned.

I purchased dji mini 2 drone earlier this year and upgraded to a dji air 2s a month ago. I am looking to start creating reliable 3d models and 2d orthographic models for clients. I can't afford paying $200 to $500 a month when I don't have any clients. I have been shopping around when I found dronelink and ODM software. Dylan, you are one of the voices that I really appreciate listening to. I want to know how I and you can guarantee the a level of accuracy one your models without GCPs? I am so tempted to just by an $8000 Drone with rtk setup but I haven't yet made my first credible 3d model. YIKES!!!
Another good video Dylan. The first video of yours that I watched was the about using the Mini 2 with Maps Made Easy to create orthos, etc. I recently tested it out and it gives you all of the files, but what is the cheapest to view those files? The renderings that it provides through Map Pilot Pro even says "low resolution" so I was curious how to create a deliverable that others can view in high resolution? I downloaded and used Agisoft Metashape and it worked pretty well, but I'm still not sure how someone else would view that without having the software. Also, Drone Deploy is not $300+ per month. If you just want to do a job here and there to get your feet wet, can you use something like Maps Made Easy to obtain similar results? Just curious if there are other budget friendly options for people just getting started, or is Drone Deploy providing something that MME does not? Thanks!
Thank you for the valuable information, Dylan. I am a retired carpenter; I received my part 107 earlier this year, and I have OSHA 10 training, and I would like to get into the construction industry because of my background; what other training is required to work in the construction industry?
As a filmmaker you often get asked to bring a drone alongside your cinema camera and stuff and capture a couple shots. A reasonable way to price the drone as an extra ontop of your day rate as a camera operator/DP is to have a rate that includes emptying 3 batteries and then carge extra for every following battery. Price it in a way that it doubles your effective hourly rate. If you have a day rate that covers 8 hours of work and 1 battery lasts ~40m, flying a drone with 3 batteries being emptied should cost ~20% extra ontop of the daily rate. The equipment the camera and the drone itself obviously cost extra. For the camera thats about 1/20th of what was needed to purchase it in the first place, for the drone its 1/10th due to how much quicker it becomes outdated and how much more likely it is to completely crash and loose a drone than compared to a camera. Audio and lighting equipment should be 1/40th of what they initially costed you since they basically never become outdated and basically never break either.
could you make a video on the types of certifications you can get for specific fields with drones. Or if you have one already, can I get the link to that please.
So how do you collect your compensation? I understand the breakdown of equipment, insurance, and such, but what methods do you use to collect? Is there a popular invoice app, checks, what is everyone using?

The agent has his own drone but can't fly it so i do it for him. He said he is going to hook me up with other agents that he knows. Thats where im at.
Stepping stones is what I like to call that, it takes time to build momentum with clients and referral clients are always the best! I hope for success in your near future with the endeavor!
Hey Dylan, did you do any specific schooling to get into this type of work? Thanks!
I did not! Mostly all self taught with some help from a few mentors in the industry!
Hi @@DylanGorman I'd love to hear about your start in the industry and how you found your first paying customers (and how much work was it). It's clear you have a lot of experience now. What worked for you that you would do again? What would you do differently if you were just starting out today?
Thanks Dylan for sharing your wealth of experience. As I transition into the professional side of the Drone industry, your information is very helpful for me to choose which path to take. Thanks again for all you do for the drone community and I look forward to more of your videos.
Glad to hear I am able to help in this industry! Best of luck as you transition!
What drone insurance and drone can you recommend for event coverage as I looking for a quiet DRONE 🎬🎥📡🏌⛳ Great Vid 🤔🙃😎

What app do you recommend for a new drone pilot drone base drone up ?
Drone Deploy, if you are on a budget then WEBODM
Amazing 🤩
Thank you!
Awesome videos...
Thank you!!
What software do you use for photogrammetry?
With gcps
Drone Deploy! There are also several other softwares that you can use GCP’s with
@@DylanGorman been flying with the original phantom 4 and the mini 2. Just got the matrice 300 and an m30t on order. I work with a landfill to provide aerial 3D data as well as methane detecting and thermography. Would love to know how your company works 👍🏼
Oh what’s that’s cool! Reach out to me dgorman@idplans.com! I’d like to learn more about your line of work!
Hi from Turkey , do you have any advice or lesson from Udemy?
I do not have anything yet! Working on some things!
I like to comment to you off the Tube. Write me. Thank you.
Hello!
Nice video Dylan, are you interested in creating a course on getting started in the business or a mentorship?? Im interested
It’s been something I have been working on but not ready to release yet!
That's some great information, thanks. Like # 65!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Dylan! Very helpful thank you
Thank you Glenn!
Thank you for doing this video. Appreciated!
Glad you liked it!
Awesome video thank you 👍🏼
Thank you as always!
Saw this 5 minutes before I have to go to work. I know what I am watching during my lunch time, lol. Can't wait.
Haha that’s awesome!
Thanks Dylan. Supporting the drone Pilot community is key. It’s a good and fun community 🍻
It comes with its ups and downs but mainly all positive! Thanks for watching!
Great info! Thx
Appreciate it!
If I bought a dji maverick air2S to for doing 3D mapping in photogrammetry what’s the guideline and prices to charge for that?
Whats your experience level, what industry would you be going after, what software would you be using to process it in, how big of a scan are you doing? All of these come into factor when determining a price. For simple scans I would charge between $75-$275 depending on what the final deliverable is!
@@DylanGorman I’m in Architectural Engineering and I’m new to the drone industry however it would definitely help me moving forward and add value to my work. I’m just thinking of getting in it at this point and working my way up as I advance and get better. Pixel 4D as far as software and for square footage anywhere from 5000 ft.² ~ 25,000 ft.².
Is this for full 3d models or just top down view for planametrics? (I most likely spelled that wrong but you understand what I’m trying to say!)
@@DylanGorman both actually and yes I understand.
Very interesting. No BS and good tips. Big wow for the informations provided. You bring up specific inputs that barely no vids contain. Congrats 👌.
Great information, and it is very helpful for us new comers of the drone service community. Thanks for your sharing Dylan
Thank you. I am just starting in the commercial drone industry. I purchased the DJI Mavic 3 pro. I am part 107 as of July 15th . The information was very useful. Thanks again
Awesome video! You know, it's funny you mentioned offering a free demo to the potential client. I asked about doing that in the Real Estate Photography community as a way to get started in the industry and get your first client. They were all like Do Not Do That! I thought though, it was a solid point of departure to not only build a relationship but your portfolio.
Music rocked.. Snow.. I miss 50 everyday during winter.. rainy. But no snow. landing was cool too . Good video my friend 💪💪🙏👊👊 God bless
Wow this is incredible information, thank you for this information, especially identifying other certificates exist that may be needed to do those jobs, I didn't even think of that!
Very helpful. Thank you for putting this together in such a structured way. I'm considering to level up my skills as drone pilot and I really get the perspective of what a future might look like for me in few years time if I dedicate some of my free time to it. Good job and keep up with the good work :)
You are a very good teacher. I am considering Part 107 training and am so grateful to have stumbled onto your channel. I’m looking forward to this journey. Thanks for sharing your experience.
you need training to get a part 107??
@@talmagekohler8718 you don't need to do a training course. You can if you want. It defintly will make the test easier. Also I am pretty sure you get other certificates for doing the training
Just do some studying the 107 is not hard to get.
Loved how in depth you went on pricing, tools and certs. Definitely looking to get into drone piloting. Nice jeans btw 😉
Really great breakdown on the billing part of your business. This info is valuable for the newcomers like me. Maybe I shouldn't be skeptical but the last bit about being a family is pushing it a bit in my opinion. Business is always dollars over companionship in my experience. I'm looking forward to learning more from your videos, thanks.
Thank you for watching! Fair enough for your last point, I’m just very passionate about this industry and want to educate newcomers as best as possible! It’s still such a new industry that I’d like to see as many people succeed as possible! But yes money is money and people will do what that want to get it, can’t stop that.
Thanks Dylan and Hi from the UK. Just came across your channel. Very helpful and bags of common sense in what you say.
Thanks Dylan for your video and all that expensive information thanks a lot 🙏
Thanks, for this Video! I an new in this, trying to go in this industry. Still dont know where the beginning is... But i will find.
Is anyone else just waiting for him to bump the Inspire right into the pool?
I could never haha!
You're wicked 😂
One of the best videos that I have ever watched on TH-cam for drone industry. I totally agree on the 15% from the last bit of the video. Thank you for this video. You really helped me alot and I hope to see more videos like this one in the near future. Respect!
I'm now coming up on 61 and I own and operate my small Plumbing Service where it's just me, myself and I, it's great money and I've been very happy with it, but thinking of slowly transitioning over to drone services, and getting the Autel Alpha after taking some courses and whatnot. This will be a bit easier on my body and a good transition for me since I am a technical kind of person, and I don't mind traveling. Thanks for the video, it clued me in on a couple more aspects of the service.
I own a hvac company and i myself is telling myself i want to do it
@@kylemchugh276 after further thought I have decided this is not a viable option.
Thanks Dylan for sharing your wealth of experience. I appreciate you sharing the professional side of the Drone industry, it began as a hobby interest and then I soon saw the various niche markets I could offer services part-time. I'll be joining your mastery course soon. Thank you
Amazing! Let me know if you have any questions
How do you go about getting clients/ work? Where does one look? If there is a video addressing this let me know! Great video!
This channel deserves more subscribers. So I just subscribed 😀
Wow thank you!
Thank you soo very much for your honesty and humility to help others out. Still working on landing my first client. Growing my roots I guess. Videos like this grow my confidence with the business. Branching my drone business off of my fence company business. Again thanks,..
The inspire drone just on the edge on the pool side made me scared the whole time - but great video.
This is a great video. Very clear, straight forward and most of all informative and honest.
I appreciate that! I try and put out the best information that I can!
If you were in the real estate game could you use sqft to price your work. For exp. 0-3000sqft is $75, 3001-6000sqft is $100, 6001-6001+ is $125.
Exactly!
I hope you're talking per hour? Lmao...cuz I wouldnt roll out of bed for $100.
@@lowellirishYeah imagine getting paid 100 bucks for the real estate company to make an extra 50 grand lmfao
Wow...yeah, 100 bucks for a couple hours work or less...Image making $50 an hour....
The standard rate is around 3 to 5 cents per sq foot
Good Job Dylan! You laid out a very thorough and practical approach to understanding the market for drone services. You hit some areas I did not think about, which generated some new ideas I might want to pursue as well. Thanks for the information! Subscribed!
Glad this video helped! Thank you!
Very helpful in determining what (and IF) this is something I want to pursue. Good stuff!
YIKES!!!
Hello! Great video.
Question what drone related applications are being used in the oil and gas industry?
Thanks for sharing such valuable information. I've learnt a lot.
Thanks for the Video! We appreciate your time on this! ✊
Thank you!
Man I really appreciate your detailed guidance! Super helpful 👍🏼
And moving forward as a family!!! ❤❤❤
could you make a video on the types of certifications you can get for specific fields with drones. Or if you have one already, can I get the link to that please.
So how do you collect your compensation? I understand the breakdown of equipment, insurance, and such, but what methods do you use to collect? Is there a popular invoice app, checks, what is everyone using?
GREAT video full of information Dylan. I believe i will be able to take my GRADD 107 training paired with your additional information and have a payback method!
