Home sweet home looks more like a port than a new game. Natsume has been so disappointing for years. That plus their deceptive marketing means I'll pass on buying.

I definitely agree on Hometown Story. I was so hyped for that game. It seemed really like the ideal game for me. But everything that happens in the game is just so random, it seems like there's no logic behind any of it. I also ended up having a glitch where, after upgrading my store to max size (which took less than 1 season to do), the game would freeze and crash if too many characters were in my store at one time. I gave up after that.

Seeing Hometown Story on this list awakened some repressed memories. I had high hopes for it and even gave it more than a little leeway. I played for over one in-game year, expanded my shop, unlocked new villagers etc. But the game felt so bland and directionless. Fitting, because the game also gives you no direction in how to progress in the story. And even if you look up a guide (which I am still shocked that there are) some events can just choose not to trigger for unknown reasons, making you wait for the next opportunity.
And then there's the marriageable characters... First of all there's only three for each gender (at least from what I could find) and they look so similar to each other, especially the bachelorettes. Add to that the confusing way of triggering events and you have a very weird game.
Though I can see someone liking the game, but for a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons fan, this game is very unappealing, sadly.

I've skipped and will continue to skip all of Natsume's. I think it's pretty trash to continue using the harvest moon name imo. Also they seem to be very low quality, only mariginally getting better recently which makes me continue to think it's been a cash grab this whole time using the IP. If it didn't use the name, it likely wouldn't have survived the first one. When I originally saw it I thought it looked like a crap minecraft and was highly disappointed as A New Beginning was my first and I was excited for another. Luckily I researched and definitely passed on it.

Some of the stuff in hometown story felt like a fever dream, some things were so strange and just came out of nowhere… like that one event with the little boy?? HELLO??? WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY???

OMG! You just unlocked a memory of mine with Hometown Story! I think I used to own that game in the past when I had my old 3DS, and yeah, like you said, I also found it very boring very fast, lol!

All i can say with the current sets:
The characters, model, art, game structures…They ugly as f.
The world. Like… i tried ti get into anthos but the heavily open world is so empty and a hollow soul. They never learned from One world’s criticism and just ignore.

I only played HM MFoMT, HM DS cute, SoS, HM Animal Parade.HM MFoMT is my TOP nastalgia game. DS cute was fun but the lack of bachelors (even with the MFoMT attachment) and harvest sprite mechanics lost my interest. Chotic things I miss:
HM MFoMT
Opportunity to poison the town soup event
Crazy dreams
Gold lumber fence drama
Confessions in the church
Sprite labor
HM DS Cute
Dog house fight club mechanic (SERIOUSLY this is the only reason I played some days 😅)
Animal Parade is my favorite but Story of Seasons is more portable so I play more often (2nd favorite). I logged 400+ hrs in SoS and I'm half way yr 3 in game. I love the character customization, town map, towns folks, and rival farmers. The in game unlockable items are bitter sweet on 1 hand it keeps my instrest on the other it sux having to wait 4yrs for a hot spring or certain animals to make clothes or craft Items. I especially find the crafting mechanic is a bit over done and annoying. ESPECIALLY when there is a limited mining point that gives 30 random ores and stones max.

i'm gonna take a guess, that all of the 'bad' games are gonna be the ones that are still being made in america marketed as 'harvest moon' bc the original harvest moon games were always called 'story of seasons' in japan but when they localized it, for some reason called it harvest moon here. years ago they had a disagreement or whatever so they're two separate entities now and all modern day 'harvest moon' games aren't made by the original creators that made the Good games, they're made by an american? (i assume) team and many are bad and cash grabby nonsense. the Real modern day harvest moon games are the Story of Season games.

I feel like the new studio the one that kept the name harvest moon is only profiting because of people recognising the title harvest moon with the games that were made by the old studio ( aka the good games) am glad the old studio that is now going by story of seasons is thriving compared to the new harvest moon studio

I hated Lost Valley with all the hatred available in my body when I played it. It was my first harvest moon game and I felt SO disappointed. I gave myself so many migraines over this game when I was younger !!! I kept getting lost and everything felt so empty and lame and I was having the worst time ever 🫠
