As a kid, the forced story aspect made it a lot more playable to me 😭 most of the normal sims, I’d have like 3-4 sessions on a household before making a new one
I’ve only ever played normal sims and I think a story aspect would help me get more hooked on it better. I have the same issue I’ll only play a household a few times before I’m done with it. Sometimes I don’t even end up playing with the household I’ll make them, their house, and dip.
I’ve tried playing some of the handheld versions and I just found them WAY too difficult to get into. Making money in the games is too annoying. I prefer the console versions (specifically 1, 2, and Castaway) since it’s practically the PC versions but with a simple, goal-based story.
As someone who played Freeplay religiously a few years ago, and spent money on it. I have to say I completely agree with you. I honestly think, they should rename it to AdPlay, with the amount of ads the game wants you to watch
Sims 2 Castaway on PSP was bizarrely feature rich. It included Woohoo, and a system that allows you to put highlight colors in your hair that to my knowledge was a first for the series outside PC. also the coconuts were glitched so it looked more like eating a ball of rainbow clay
Wait wait i never knew about woohoo in sims2 castaway for psp!! And i recently replayed it in emulator and reserched that there is no woohoo((( but i had the wedding anyway
When I was a kid, I found the hotel Sims game in one of those cheap game bins at Circuit City. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I had a blast with it.
I rarely comment on TH-cam videos, but I just feel like I have to tell you how much I adore your channel. It's perfect for me in any way possible, the nostalgia, the humor, the sometimes strange and niche subjects, the editing, commentary and overall aesthetic is just 10/10. Thank you for making amazing videos dreamyjellies! 😎👍
Sims Bustin Out on GBA will always have a place in my heart and I lowkey still want Giuseppi Mezzoalto in the back of his van, random furniture of dubious origins and all.
He's such a neat tropey character! As a kid I pronounced his name as Giz-oopy for some reason, and now I still can't read it normally whenever I see it
God, I miss handheld gaming. There’s gotta be some middle ground between iPhone shovelware and triple A switch tiles! (Also, I love how you use the pink versions of each of the consoles for your game footage- everyone knows they’re the best versions!)
@@MarquisdeL3 I have a problem with this however in that the Switch and Steam Deck are not really small and convenient, they're both quite big for handheld consoles! Alas, it a genre / platform of gaming that will likely not see a return. :(
Let me tell you. I FKN LOVE SIMS BUSTING OUT! It was my first ever video game and I have played it in totality probably 10 times. But I still never figured out the cliff diving lol wtf. Also I loved making literally everyone in town be in love with me, filled the void my mom's distance left LOL. But I really love the sound effects and music. It's such a simple and lovable game. I really want to go mow Uncle Hayseed's grass rn
I remember playing The Sims Social back in the day on Facebook. I'm kind of sad that it has been deleted now as I always thought that the artstyle is really pretty and, if I remember correctly, it allowed you to interact with the sims made by people on your friend's list
Nice, a nostalgic video I can take part in. I played and honestly enjoyed the handheld sims iterations like Bustin' Out and Urbz (specifically for GBA) quite a bit. I honestly wish we'd get some new games like that, even if it isn't officially a "sims" game something comparable to the exploration and interactions you can have in those two games would be great.
I'm always happy to see Sims handheld games get some much needed love. I'm a big fan of these weird console & spinoff games, Sims 2 DS is one of my favourite games ever because it's just so out there. I also used to play TS2 GBA a lot as a kid, still need to get around to hunting down a copy of it. I want to play it again so much.
I had ts2 pets for the GBA when I was younger and I used to play it ALL THE TIME. I can literally repeat the simlish from memory. The crunchy eating and drinking noises are ingrained in my brain.
I played a lot that sims 2 game on my mom's motorola razr. I had no clue it was a sims game, but just looking at that footage for half a second made me remember so much about the gameplay. It had to be one of, if not, the most played game i had during those years.
sims castaway brings me so many memories. i'd go to my cousin's house and play it on his psp nonstop until i had to go home. it was my first experience with the sims and i was changed forever. i tried downloading it for pc so i could have a taste of the golden days but i could't get the controls to work with the keyboard. still, i will always love it
Congrats on almost 200,000 subscribers!! That’s absolutely incredible and you deserve it. I remember when you first started out and it’s so great to see how far you’ve come, my friend :)
I had Sims 2 on DS and I had no idea at the time that wasn't what normal Sims games were. The Ratticator plotline was so surreal that as an adult, I had to search out the game to see if I wasn't just remembering wrong or making it up. I never got to finish the game though because it glitched during the pirate casino games and I could never make any more progress.
It surprised me how the PSP versions of the Sims games (apart from The Sims 2, which was it's own thing on PSP) were pretty much just the console (PS2) versions of those games, but with "worse" graphics and adjusted controls to account for having only one stick.
These games are my core memories lmao, the sims bustin out and sims urbz are my forever favorites, i just replayed them a couple of months ago and they are still magical, the suburbs, the bayou, the npcs, the background music. I even play the bep x sims urbz playlist on spotify regularly. I'm in love with canonball coleman saxophone sounds and redman violin duel song. I'm glad i am not the only one with this niche obsession 😭
The Urbz for the DS is still one of my favourite DS games, (at the time at least) it felt like it gave a level of freedom that a lot of other games were lacking. I loved how you could get loads of unique secret areas you could use like a second house. The ending with the Time Machine felt very creative
I would LOOOVE to see a MySims video! especially with the Cozy Bundle on Nintendo Switch coming out. They're classics andI'm glad they're getting renewed attention. The era of Wii and DS games being seen as just inferior versions of HD console/PC games is finally over
FreePlay is super addictive, I started playing it again a few years ago figuring I'd like to get all the achievements on Google Play and eventually realized that I just can't... too much grinding for those last few and even if the actual play sessions aren't all that long, if you want to see good results, you have to check in multiple times a day. It's not like people have lives outside of gaming, right? Also, YES, MySims video, YES!
The Urbz was my second DS game after Mario 64. I love how quirky the NPC dialogue is and had so much fun exploring each new area. Maybe I'll replay it soon, as Evil Larry this time.
Yeesh looking at the Sims 4 mobile thing is creepy, everyone has some terrifying face, and smile. ...The Sims 2 on DS and GBA continue to be the best in the series for the Strangetown lore alone.
The sims 3 pets for the 3DS was my one and only sims game for years and I still play it all the time to this day (I was actually playing it before watching this lmao), its always had a special place in my heart and its awesome seeing it get mentioned along with the other games that are rarely ever talked about :]
Amazing video (I've been looking forward to it since you mentioned the mobile version of The Sims 3 in your Golden Age of Apps video). The first Sims game I ever played was Freeplay. It was fun back then, but it definitely pales in comparison to the mainline games (especially with how ridiculously long it takes to complete the in-game quests). For your next Sims-related video (likely after the MySims one, of course), might I suggest a retrospective/review of all the Sims 3 worlds? Riverview features Evil Larry (as in an evil townie named Larry)!
the DS sims games were my personal hell and I love them dearly even the Sims 2 even though my game always times me out and doesnt make sense and crashes :))))
Urbz on the DS/GBA is still one of my favorite Sims games. Took what made Bustin Out good, and turned it to 11. The story/writing was fun, music was a bop, minigames were a bit more forgiving for a mobile platform, and the Xizzles/REP system gave the game replayability, also the schooling system was a genius addition to make it a bit less grindy. I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
I spent too much time on Sims 3 DS, it's such an underrated "port" and I could totally use it as a Sims substitute at a moment when I didn't game much on my PC
i highlyyy recommend playing out the entire sims2 DS version, it gets waaayyy more crazy than a basic hotel manager. it also creeped me out a lot as a child LOL
I used to have the sims for my DSi and I was OBSESSED I lost the cartridge a couple years ago which sucks cause i'd love to go back and see all the sims I made:/
Still in LURV w/ Dusty Hogg - I really love all the iterations of the Sims. It's amazing how with SIms 3 they were even different depending on the console you played it on. Loved the idea of karma points
Dream Jelly making my dream video taking about my favorite games ever as a kid. I still break out my DS and play Bustin’ Out to this day - and if I really need to scratch the itch while I’m out, Delta Emulator. This video makes me so, so happy. I cannot recommend Prudence Softy enough - they have gone through all the Sims spin-offs and their videos are so funny!
I remember how nightmarish and spooky the SIMS2 for ds was, i dont think i ever went past the aliens because it was spooking me when I was a kid lmao :')
i've owned sims 2 castaways on the wii for years, never knew that there was a ds port. it's genuinely still one of my favorite games released for the wii though
Oh, the nostalgia, I used to play the mobile The Sims 2 version a lot on my old Sony Ericsson (that I actually lost in a school trip) and I absolutely love The Sims 2 Castaway for the PS2, I dare to say it's on of my favorite The Sims game
There are so many of these old games I have very fond memories of. I spent hours playing the Java games. Even though they had story lines, I'd just start the game over and over again to replay it. I also loved Castaway on DS, and yes, Pets on DS is very lackluster, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't spent several roadtrip hours playing it when I got bored of the others. I completely agree that the games feel empty nowadays. I tried playing FreePlay years ago, and I thought I liked it, but one day I realised all I did was just open the app once every 24 hours, get the pumpkins I'd made all my sims plant, make them plant another 24 hour pumpkin harvest, and then repeat. There were no consequences to sims having low needs, so they just became my pumpkin slaves, and I wasn't actually playing the game. And this is coming from someone who played The Sims 2 Pets on DS.
I must be about the same age as you because I got the sims bustin out for GBA when I was around 7, and to this day that and URBZ are still one of my absolute favorite sims games. They have so much personality and I love the wacky story lines and characters. I really wish the sims would bring back these spin off games. I also love the PSP game. I think it's one of the best games the sims has put out. It had incredible sims lore, including where bella goth disappeared to. I played this on an emulator as an adult, and I know if I had played it as a kid, it'd be so incredibly nostalgic
I remember getting Sims 2 Pets for the GBA for my bday and being OBSESSED. I had already adored The Sims Life Stories, but there was just something about the handheld version that felt so much cooler! I also loved the evil larry character 😏
Loved this video ❤ fantastic as ever and I always wanted someone to deep dive sim2 games specifically (sims 2 castaway ds and sims 2 ds especially) cuz of just how different they are! Also editing top tier as always...love the consoles and mobiles used per game 🎉
I had all the Gameboy Sims games and later, the Sims 3 Wii game and I played all of them religiously (still play them to this day tbh). This video gave me so much nostalgia!!
I've been playing Sims since 2005, starting with Bustin' Out and Sims 2 on PS2. The games were charming and captivating for my age at the time. I became obsessed and wanted to try all the releases, but I never had the chance. Glad to know I didn't miss a lot, though the PSP versions seemed closest to console and PC. Eventually, I got Sims 3 for PC, which perfectly balanced what I loved about the series. I bought DLCs and still play it today. I also tried Sims 4 but grew to dislike it for various reasons. As I’ve gotten older, I do have less time for PC gaming, but Sims 3 is still a go-to on my laptop when I'm ready. I’ve occasionally played Sims FreePlay since it was released. I like the graphics a lot and found a currency hack but finding it increasingly frustrating with the paid packs, real-time minutes, build and CAS mode limitations, and the adsssss. Omg it feels more like a cash grab now, so I’ll likely just stick with Sims 3 or find another mobile game to burn time while on a work break or tending to my bladder need. Lol
sims 3 ds was my favorite video game of all time when i was younger. hiding my ds away under my pillow because it was late at night is such a strong memory for me,
Both GBA Bustin' out and Urbz were my jam back in the day! Urbz especially! Sure they ain't PERFECT when you're old enough to understand how tedious things can be in them, like either the RNG can collecting [or was it nuclear rods? whatever] but giving a structure to the life sim aspect of the series with missions is something I really wish other games would do.
I deeply miss the times when games were released on a million different platforms and none of the games were the same 😂 Also definitely miss the silly humor of The Sims franchise. I still play The Sims 4, but I feel like the heart is missing. Great video as usual! 😌🌸
I loved playing the GBA and DS games as a kid, with the Urbz GBA still being an all time favorite for me (which BTW, the OST for it was a masterpiece, it's a shame the composer, Ian Stocker, isn't more popular) and I loved how most them share this tiny mini universe with tons of recurring characters among the games like Dusty Hogg and Daddy Bigbucks to name a few and also references to other game's settings, so I admit I was a little bummed when The Sims 3 decided to go for a more traditional gameplay because I wanted to see their stories continue. I dont know what name the genre for this subset of spin off Sims games should be given but I do know is that I want to see it return in some way or another.
Loved this video ❤ fantastic as ever and I always wanted someone to deep dove sim2 games specifically cuz of just how different they are! Also editing top tier as always...love the consoles and mobiles used per game 🎉
Your channel is really comforting for me in recapturing the magic i felt in the world during y2k popculture. Thank you very much for making videos. Theyre charming, funny and feel as nice as my 7 year old Build a Bear. cheers.
My absolute favorite sims game are the RPG ones like bustin out and the urbz (the DS one). I still play the Urbz as an adult, and it still holds IMO. It’s pretty addictive. They don’t do em like this anymore
The first time I played The Sims 2 Castaway for the DS, I borrowed a copy from my Aunt Jenny. I managed to get up to 99% before I got a copy of my own. I would delete and make new save files all the time. For some reason, I could never get to 100%. The crates and plane cases rarely gave me any new items.
I really miss the era of true handheld consoles that got their own unique versions of games designed specifically not only for weaker hardware but around being played in short bursts on the go. The Switch for better or mostly for worse is no longer a true handheld like the DS, Game Boy and PSP line were, it's just an inferior console that happens to be portable (not that that isn't impressive, but the charm has worn off for a lot of people)
Urbz on GameCube , Ps2, and XBOX deserved a sequel. That game and the soundtrack are ELITE. I remember when people thought The Sims franchise would finally acknowledge the game with TS4. (Some of the sims in the previews looked like the characters in the Urbz game intro trailer. The pink-haired girl especially) I absolutely hated the Gameboy/DS ports as someone who absolutely loved Urbz and the PC version of The Sims.
Here me out; the GBA version of Sims 2 and DS version of Urbz are two of the best spinoffs of the franchise. I wish they did more experimental RPG stuff, but that kinda fizzled out with the PSP era. I think the only time that two versions of the same handheld game were identical was with Urbz, though even then the DS version had an extra chapter and a bonus island. The DS, GBA, and PSP versions of Sims 2 were entirely different; one was a hotel sim, one was a reality show, while the last was an Matrix plot.
My first exposure to The Sims was a demo of The Sims 3 that was preloaded on my mom’s LG feature phone along with Need For Speed Shift back in like 2012 when I was 4
Oh god, I remember Urbz. Not only was the soundtrack so unique and fun, it was so much it's own thing. With it's minigames and apartments you can buy and upgrade, I wasted so much time on that game.
I have the sims 2 ds game, it’s horrifying xd, I love the sims free play. I used to play it for hours back in 2015, though now it is very VERY micro transactions 😭
Urbz on the gameboy was my first hand held sims game. Still have my original copy. Still play it. And I will continue to play it over and over again until I die. Also still have my sims 2 and sims 2 pets for gameboy cartridges…sims 2 pets continues to humble me. ITS BEEN 20 years and I still haven’t beaten it
Please do a video on MySims!! Everytime I hear someone talk about it they reference the Wii games, not the DS games 😢 MySims Kingdom DS specifically was so much fun and very charming!
Sims 2 Castaway is peak. Super fun, music is amazing, great game. One of my favorite PS2 games 😄 Never played the PSP one as a kid since the pirated version always froze for whatever reason 😭
The Sims 2 on DS was literally too scary for me as a kid and I felt bad about it because my dad bought it for me and I know he was so excited for it to be the perfect gift because I had wanted to play the computer game for years but they thought I wasn't old enough 😭 how could he have known what he was getting me into!!

I really like the detail of the bedazzled Ipod touch, very slay
Still in LURV w/ Dusty Hogg - I really love all the iterations of the Sims. It's amazing how with SIms 3 they were even different depending on the console you played it on. Loved the idea of karma points
the sims bustin out for gba was my first sims experience too! i love to see it getting the appreciation it deserves
This is the kind of content I need. So much memories
Omg. You just unlocked an ancient memory of the sims DJ iPod app. I used to play that all the time! Totally forgot it existed haha.
i've owned sims 2 castaways on the wii for years, never knew that there was a ds port. it's genuinely still one of my favorite games released for the wii though
I've always heard it was good. I wouldn't check it out now; but I felt I would've enjoyed it as a kid.
Oh, the nostalgia, I used to play the mobile The Sims 2 version a lot on my old Sony Ericsson (that I actually lost in a school trip) and I absolutely love The Sims 2 Castaway for the PS2, I dare to say it's on of my favorite The Sims game
18:13 I would always mess up my Sims' food somehow in that game 😭 it's SO frustrating because even now I do NOT understand that mechanic
Lol
sims 3 ds was my favorite video game of all time when i was younger. hiding my ds away under my pillow because it was late at night is such a strong memory for me,
I wholeheartedly respect you keeping MySims separate. It's kinda its own thing.
I love the editing style!
I don’t know how many people know this, but in sims 2 for ds if you tip the cows over and then milk them, you can get a milkshake
I felt bad and didn’t wanna tip them :(
Perfect timing, I've literally just been thinking about GBA sims and was hoping to have a video to watch about it.
love how u put the gameplay vids in their respective consoles!
The first time I played The Sims 2 Castaway for the DS, I borrowed a copy from my Aunt Jenny. I managed to get up to 99% before I got a copy of my own. I would delete and make new save files all the time. For some reason, I could never get to 100%. The crates and plane cases rarely gave me any new items.
the sims 2 & the sims 2 pets on psp were certified school bus classics when i was in primary school
I really miss the era of true handheld consoles that got their own unique versions of games designed specifically not only for weaker hardware but around being played in short bursts on the go. The Switch for better or mostly for worse is no longer a true handheld like the DS, Game Boy and PSP line were, it's just an inferior console that happens to be portable (not that that isn't impressive, but the charm has worn off for a lot of people)
SHE HAS RISEN
Urbz on GameCube , Ps2, and XBOX deserved a sequel. That game and the soundtrack are ELITE. I remember when people thought The Sims franchise would finally acknowledge the game with TS4. (Some of the sims in the previews looked like the characters in the Urbz game intro trailer. The pink-haired girl especially)
I absolutely hated the Gameboy/DS ports as someone who absolutely loved Urbz and the PC version of The Sims.
I still play Sims Busting Out on my gameboy to this day. Glad you started the video with the goat. 😂
I have the sims 2 ds game, it’s horrifying xd,
I love the sims free play.
The Sims 2 PSP is one of the most under rated games ever. It's basically a psychological thriller lol.
Sims 2 Castaway is peak. Super fun, music is amazing, great game. One of my favorite PS2 games 😄
Never played the PSP one as a kid since the pirated version always froze for whatever reason 😭
YAAYYY THE BEST TH-camR UPLOADED!!!!
The Sims 2 on DS was literally too scary for me as a kid and I felt bad about it because my dad bought it for me and I know he was so excited for it to be the perfect gift because I had wanted to play the computer game for years but they thought I wasn't old enough 😭 how could he have known what he was getting me into!!
you're videos arw awesome!!! always wanted to replay these, thanks for reminding me they exist!!
Who would've thought they'd give an incredibly accurate vet tech simulator game in the sims? 😂 Sounded like an average pet check-up to me
I’ve played all of these multiple times but did I watch this video, yes. Did I love this video? YES 🙌🏻 🥰
