This case from 1890 County Kilkenny Ireland is horrific by any standard, The brutality of the killing was said to rival the ripper - justifiably so. Quiet Edmund Hart invests all his spare time and any spare money he earns from fishing to upgrade the farm of his wife’s family. Then, they sell the farm without telling hm and he is booted off as a trespasser. Edmund utterly breaks and unleashes his terrible fury in an unexpected manner.
A true horror of a murder in 1890 County Kilkenny Ireland is today’s episode of Murderous Mondays.

What a mysterious case!! Why on earth did Edmund murder his poor mother?! I would have thought he would have targeted his mother-in-law (not that I condone ANYONE'S murder)!! You're right!! I reckon that Edmund was placed under the permanent care of the Lunatic Asylum!! I wish we knew for sure!!
What a sad story for all concerned - apart from the person who bought the land, that is!! 😭💔
Thanks for sharing, Robin!! 👍❤💞
Thank you - yes, a really sad case. Many of the medical recoirds are sealed and we do not have access to them. The story just vanishes, so that is why we assume. No idea at all why he targeted his mother nor why the crime was so incredibly ghastly. 🪦Thnak you very much for your support! 🙏
Why are the records sealed over a century and a quarter later?
Have you asked for the under FoI? You should at least get an answer why your request is being refused, if they do refuse it, that is.
@@satishsekar4868 No, we have not asked for permission. 😊 We are making an assumption there - as we say, the case in the papers just dries up! Thank you so much for your support and interest. 🙌
Love you podcast!!
Thank you! Very much appreciated! 🙏
Thanks very much. Enjoyed.
Thank you - glad you liked it! 🙏
Terrible case but I Love these older stories, I’m a new subscriber!!
WELCOME! 🤗Thank you for joining our community! We try - not always successfully - to do about 75% lesser-known stories on back pages. We tend to like the more obscure stories ourselves. BTW, we give an update every Sunday on our community page of what is coming up in the next week. 🗓️ This Sunday, the last Sunday of the month, we have a two hour long compilation. Thank you so much for subscribing and supporting our little channel -- very much appreciated and welcome again! 🙏

👍 as usual 🙂 👋Robin and Team,oops only 10 month's later on😉
Better late than never 🤨
Dear Lord, seriously horrifying. Just up my alley. 😉
😁 Scientifically proven to help de-stress😉
This was a "horrific," case of man who murdered his mother and the question remains was he insane or not. The main physician that examined Edward seemed to be of the opinion that he was sane and yet some people thought that he was insane. I personally thought that Edward would be committed to an insane asylum because of the heinous murder of his mother. Do you know whatever happened to his wife? I'm really curious as to what eventually happened to Edward? Great investigation, presentation, backstory, illustrations, photos and videos, as well. Take care 🦋
We believe he was actually committed to an asylum as we can find no trace of him. The wife remains mysterious and did not come up at all in any of the new reports. Absolutely awful. What we see in this case, as with many others - the neighbours know. The community knows something is wrong, even if no action is taken officially. They had expressed concern before he actually “broke”. Thank you! 🙏
Unreal episode! The Irish!
He was not having a good day! 🤔
Seriously?? Exactly what does being Irish have to do with anything?🙄
I wouldn't be surprised if he did away with himself while in custody
Yes, he sounded insane to us! We think it would have made the papers of he had died in custody (or maybe not! There was a lot going on in Ireland at the time...) The story just vanishes...🤔
Wow!😮 No doubt he killed his mother and lunched on her. Could he have had temporary insanity when he killed his mother and knowing he did it drove him to permanent insanity.🤔
Great point! After the first attempt of a hearing in which Edmund is reckoned unable to plead his own case and which is then delayed, he just vanishes form the papers. We tried the local papers we have access to - and he just does not appear, even in passing. There is also no information on the mysterious wife! One can argue if you are eating your mother, you are definitely insane. One has to question the competency of 1890 relatively rural psychologists...🤔
