  • Sheemore, known locally as the hill of the fairies, is a rich archaeological site which holds a prominent position in the South Leitrim landscape and in the cultural traditions of local residents. Sam Moore, Archaeologist and lecture at Sligo Institute of Technology, will take you on a tour of this archaeological complex and outline the archaeological and cultural significant of this fascinating site and discuss its position in the landscape.
    Connecting Through Heritage is an initiative of the Leitrim County Council Heritage Office and is part-funded by the Heritage Council.

    Fascinating stuff,you have the word shee in that part of the Gaelic world too,here in Scotland the word is common too,schiehallion the spirit of the Caledonians comes to mind.

    Yes brilliant presentation! I love this channel takes me back to when I visited there during the filming of Jimmy's Hall. I was taken to many passage tombs it was beautiful and I was so well taken care of by the beautiful local people, same in Wexford on my genealogical visit. Thank you🥰

    Is it located on private farmland? Can the public simply go for a walk here? If yes where is the best access point?

    It may have been much preferable to not place Christian symbols on a pre-Christian site, to have left the hill in its natural form.

      A bit late for that! What about Christmas, all Souls, St John's night etc. Hill of Slane, Tara Hill.
