They’ve randomly introduced a similar cut out in the Velocity Nitro 3 too and can confirm it’s now a rock magnet too. All to safe a few grams of foam weight seems a bit silly.
@gwynncompton6777 it's not just the weight, also gives the foam space to expand for cushioning and can improve stability. But I've caught stones in my Deviate 2 as well and making it wider and/or shaped differently could help reduce that.
I don't comment often. But this review is spot on. Alot more detailed, compared to most other reviews of this shoe. Also stating in detail the differences between this shoe, and the previous version. For example the fact that the Nitro foam is present in higher quantities in the forefoot compared to the Deviate Nitro 2 having more of the Nitro Elite foam. Spot on review 👍🏾👍🏾
It's a good shoe, but based on RunRepeat, the heel stack height is only 31.7 mm, which is quite low. I felt it in my knees during longer runs. Deviate 3 is much better in this case with 37.4 mm, and Magnify 2 has a similar height of 37.1 mm.
Perfect timing and excellent review! I had these sitting in my cart to use as an all-around daily trainer but I’m glad to see your Puma lineup and alternative comparisons that probably suit my needs better for off-season training. I still may go Puma for 2025 season. Thank you Kofuzi!
Just got my second pair of Deviate Nitro 2 for 75USD, really great price for the "GOAT" of arounder. the Gen 3 looks fire still, but i'm bit mind the extra weight on it. looking forward to see your review on Deviate nitro elite 3🙌
I have 180 miles on my DN2, for sure will continue to put on many more. DN2, Superblast 2, nimbus 26 are my rotation. I’m yet to buy a race day shoe, for now the superblast will do.
I have the DN3Elite. It’s an amazing shoe, comfy, bouncy and helps propel me to go even faster. Would recommend probably going half a size down though as it runs surprisingly long. I had to heel lock them to eliminate bad heel rub
I have the Nitros 2’s, wore them out and ordered the 3’s. Didn’t like how the new drop felt, returned 2 days later and ordered another new set of deviate 2s on eBay since sold out everywhere.
I just got the ascis novablast 3 after watching your video about it and honestly it is great shoe so far! I was considering the puma deviate nitro 2 but the $20 difference was the tie breaker 😂
I feel like there is a convergence of design in running shoes -- particularly features such as dual density foams and that center channel. The latter does more than give the user an opportunity to admire the carbon plate, but might actually be functional in allowing the foam to have a place to go when it squishes. I think the old DN2's version of Pumagrip is still better for offroad use.
Was waiting this review from you thanks @kofuzi! DN2 was a beast of a shoe, i was tempted to upgrade it but i went with another pair instead. Velocity nitro 3 was a letdown for me and i'm in doubt with this newer version. It is difficult to improve what is already at a very high level.
I have been using it for a week. I speedwalk/run 20000 steps everyday and also workout. On weekends my steps goes between 30000 to 40000. As someone with very wide foot and very wide toebox I will very much recommend this to the giant foot gang. I would recommend buying 1/2 size bigger for more extra space but it's not necessary. The one I bought is my exact shoe size and faced no issue. I don't know if it will be good for people with flat foot.
I got this in a pre-release here in Germany. I have about 150 km on it. I think the ride is slightly more cushioned than v2. I don't like the heel. I agree that the shark fin thingy stuck on the back is useless. The heel counter could have been better (See the Nitro Velocity 3s for an excellent heel fit and counter), and I have to use the runner's loop to get a secure fit - I don't have to do that with my Velocity 3s. Both are the exact same sizes. It's not the bad shoe, but it could have been better. Thanks for your review.
I loved the Deviate Nitro 1, and just recently picked up the Deviate Nitro 2 for 64€ at the Puma Outlet. Nice to see that the third version seems to continue being a great versital running shoe.^^
I think the Nitro Elite in the 2 just wrapped over the Nitro in the forefoot of the 2. If you look at the bottom the Nitro foam is continuous thru those exposed grooves in the forefoot.
Hey Mike - thanks for the run through and comparison… Which would you say compares best to the saucony speed2…I’ve had multiple pairs up to 900kms, love them. Speed 3’s and I did not get along, but as I can’t find deviate nitro 2’s in my size I’m looking for a new speed day shoe and I’m drawn to these three. Daily trainer I’m in now is the Novablasts which I’m getting on really well with. Any advise appreciated
Awesome review. Im planning to either get the deviate nitro 3 or the magic speed for intervalls (400/1000m) and short tempo runs. Which one do you think fits better? Since they are both kinda in the same category, i think both would fit either way.
Great review as always! I currently have a cloudsurfer as a daily training and superblast as a do-it-all shoe and looking to add another into the rotation. Was considering among Magic Speed 4, Deviate Nitro 3, Brooks Hyperion 2/Max 2, Endorphin Speed 3. Any thoughts!
hello ! I use the puma magmax for my long run and I absolutely love it..I look for a daily trainer to pick up the pace and the velocity is too narrow for me...do you think the DVN3 is a good option? thanks for your response
Great review thanks, maybe i will take your advice and start first with the deviate nitro 2. I will use it for long runs, not for cruising or easy miles nor for race day or realy fast pace but for a steady pace training towards 30-50k. Is this shoe suitable for that kind of work or would you recommend something else?
I got the DN2 and VN3(Bought it also with 50% off discount) shame that the DN3 wasnt on sale but I’m happy with my DN2. Both are my speed shoes in my rotation.
for a variety of reasons, I typically wait for a brand to send me a shoe. one reason is that, if a brand doesn't send a specific shoe, it sends me a very strong signal about what the brand thinks about the shoe. In that situation, I will typically end up not-reviewing it, as I already have more shoes to review than I have miles that I can personally run. but periodically, I'll go and get a shoe myself because there is enough viewer demand. the Hyperion Max 2 may be one of those shoes.
currently got an ES3 and Hoka Mach 6 in this range, tried out the peg plus as it's an old fave, and definitely found I liked the nitro 3 more, keen to get a pair when my mach 6 is dead for those threshold/tempo runs.
Thank you for the PDN3 review 👍 the older version(2) has been my fav shoe for long runs and I guess I will stick to it. Eventhough the new one is slightly lighter. But any reason why they thought of increasing the stack size?
I've never owned a Puma running shoe, but I've been trying to read the brand's reviews to get to know their models better. From everything I heard in this video, what I liked most and was interested in was knowing that the midsole is relatively firm, as I hate soft midsoles, at any level.
I’ve tried all three DN3 Magic Speed 4 and ES4. I admit i didn’t run far in DN3’s but I felt my DN2 and ES4 were a bit faster. Not sure which one I’m keeping for my workouts. Very tough decision this year.

So which one do you prefer after trying, version 2 or 3? 😄 Really surprised also how the mach 6 and rebel v4 was not included in the alternatives 😅 Overall, nice review as always Mike. Watched it from start to finish 💪
Ohh I see. Missed that part. Was too focused on the daily trainer/workout type of shoes that I forgot that the two featured alternatives were plated. Thanks!

Which Puma Running shoes you recommend for full marathon & ultra marathon? Velocity Nitro 3, Deviate Nitro 3 or Deviate Nitro elite 2? I hope you have postive response.
I'd ideally love to have more information, other than the fact that it's a race and what the distances may be. and assuming that by ultra marathon, you mean road marathon of about 50k, I'd probably pick Deviate Nitro 3 of the three shoes you've listed.
The Deviate Nitro 2 and 3 are what I wish the Boston were. It seems to be a minority position, but I think the Boston has strayed quite a bit from what it originally was. If I were to out it on a spectrum with the other three shows compared in this video, I’d say it’s the softest and more easy pace oriented and the least speed oriented out of Deviate Nitro 3, Magic Speed 4, and Endorphin Soeed 4
Ah, good question. In each situation, the shoe is “plated”. It has a shank-like element in the shoe sandwiched between two layers of foam. If the plate is fully carbon fiber, we say it is a carbon plate or that the shoe is carbon plated. If the plate uses a blend of materials, we specify the blend. If the blend includes carbon fiber, we call it a carbon infused plate. (And generally, I believe the main component is nylon or similar plastic)
I have the deviate 2 they’re mu first plated trainer i use them on intervals and speed days also when it’s raining and i notice i dont feel the plate that much can you feel the snap on the deviate 3s cause i dont notice the plate when i run in the 2s
went to the Puma store today to buy the DN3, but came out with a Puma MagMax, a super stack cushioned trainer. First time I buy a running shoe before watching Kufozi review it…
Just bought this for my wife: we got a miss on this one. Tongue dug in so much on the run that she ended up with a bit of a limp. So it hasn't worked for us so far! Had high hopes too. Ah well, different strokes for different folks in this case I guess. Too bad bc the looks are 🔥.
I have not yet run in the SC Trainer v3, but if it is anything like the SC Trainer v2 or v1, I do not consider them to be the same type of shoe. they are complements, not competitors.
Kofuzi knows the pain of the rock magnet. 🤣👍🏼
Agree that it feels a tad firmer. Still a top option though
I've cut the foam around the slot to a wider angle, no stone pick up at all now.
Thought of you when he said that, lol
They’ve randomly introduced a similar cut out in the Velocity Nitro 3 too and can confirm it’s now a rock magnet too. All to safe a few grams of foam weight seems a bit silly.

yes, I understand that. but I think that the difference is more than cosmetic.
10mm? So like VN 2 to VN3? VN3 feels like less material in the front because of the 10mm drop for me.
Great review. I put together an all Puma rotation with the Magnify 2 instead of the ForeverRun.
Is Magnify 2 better than ForeverRun?

Do you recommend this for daily training? Is it comfortable if I ran at least 6min/km?
it can be used as a daily trainer as it has daily trainer features. I personally prefer something a bit softer as my daily trainer.
After watching this, just got my Deviate Nitro 3 😊
hope you enjoy!
What’s the difference between carbon infused and carbon plated?
Ah, good question.
In each situation, the shoe is “plated”. It has a shank-like element in the shoe sandwiched between two layers of foam. If the plate is fully carbon fiber, we say it is a carbon plate or that the shoe is carbon plated.
If the plate uses a blend of materials, we specify the blend. If the blend includes carbon fiber, we call it a carbon infused plate. (And generally, I believe the main component is nylon or similar plastic)
I have the deviate 2 they’re mu first plated trainer i use them on intervals and speed days also when it’s raining and i notice i dont feel the plate that much can you feel the snap on the deviate 3s cause i dont notice the plate when i run in the 2s
just purchased mine an hour ago, can't to wear it and I love the design too.
hope it gives you many happy miles!
Good description. Like to Kofuzi. A nice weekend for everyone.
Can you review xtep 260x?
Best upgrade for me is the colorway in white feather grey. I really really dislike some of the gimmicky things that Puma does.
went to the Puma store today to buy the DN3, but came out with a Puma MagMax, a super stack cushioned trainer. First time I buy a running shoe before watching Kufozi review it…
hope you enjoy!
How is it compare to the Ultraboost 5 and 5x???
They incredibly different shoes intended for different things. They are more complementary than they are competitors
The outsole and new upper sound good, but everything else seems kinda... Eh. Was hoping for more of an all rounder like the DN2.
I have not yet run in the SC Trainer v3, but if it is anything like the SC Trainer v2 or v1, I do not consider them to be the same type of shoe. they are complements, not competitors.
Thank u!
thanks for watching!
What do you mean by “workouts”? Like, gym ?
Maybe speed session
I like this Sensei!
10mm drop is yikes. Loved deviate 2s 6mm
Such a shamez I'm not going to 10mm!
are you going to review the cloudsurfer next?
I don’t have any current plans, although we’ll see if On sends any for me to review
1:45 haha that is some next level logics from Puma
By the way it’s also $10 cheaper than the soon to be released Nike Pegasus plus!
Where do we get this awesome T-shirt??!
I got it from puma.com
