To be honest, I thought Puma was dead. Now all of a sudden they're making the best shoes out there. I'm honestly happy for them, what a remarkable come up.
Loving the Elites 3, they feel taller and more protective than VF3 and much less agressive in the arch area. Taking the pumas to the México City marathon this Sunday!
I recently swapped the Velocity Nitro 2 out of my rotation for the Forever Run Nitro and it's really improved my long runs. When i come back to my speedier sessions my legs feel a lot more rested. I use the Deviate Nitro 2 on my faster sessions. I love this new generation of Puma shoes. They're doing a fantastic job. This is a brilliant review. Thanks Kofuzi.
I have the DNE3. It’s a fantastic shoe. Only issue I had with it initially was I had bad heel rub, as it’s a pretty long shoe. So much so that maybe I would’ve been better going down half a size. After heel locking them (aka runners knot) that issue went away and I’ve loved them since. I’ve raced them in a 5k, two 10k’s and a half marathon so far and they’re so comfy yet bouncy and quick. They helped me to a big PB in all 3 distances. I will be using them for my first marathon race next year too
The Magnify Nitro 2 is vastly underrated. Not so heavy that it's stuck solely in the recovery category, but with enough responsiveness and cushion that it can be an excellent long run shoe.
Superb review as always! I agree, the PUMA design team have done a phenomenal job of keeping what's been solid about the Deviate Elite line, while making subtle yet impactful changes that take these shoes to the next level. There's definitely a good reason why PUMA athletes choose the Deviate Elite 3. If you try them out, you will not be disappointed.
I enjoyed running in this shoe. It really feels light on the feet and very propulsive in spite of the foam being softer. The stack height is also protective making it more amenable for longer distances. For me, it's one of the best running shoes Puma has made together with Deviate Nitro 2 and 3.
For the life of me the Alphafly3 just didn't work Switched to a pair of Nitro Elite 3 and runs are effortless now 10/10 highly recommend thank you Kofuzi ❤
I've just picket up running this year, ran way less than i intended to, but still i hung onto it! Watched a lot of your vids and loved them, very informative and useful! I've got a pair of Novablast 4 and love them! Only did 2 runs in them, but the 10k felt suuuper easy at aerobic pace. I'm switching a few stuff between gym training and running and i'll 100% put more volume into the runs and next year i'm aiming for a half marathon! Thanks again for your work! Cheers from Romania!
I am absolutely loving these Elite 3s such a fun and amazing shoe it is both comfortable and springy - I will be comparing it to the SC Elite v4 to see which one I want to race in
It looks great as a $200+ super shoes, premium upper solid build quality 🔥 I have a pair of Elite 2, they still lovely at 700+km, helped me won my first ever 1st 10k race at time 37 min. Can’t wait to get the new one🙌🏻
Comparison to the vaporfly 3 makes sense. The plate position looks almost exactly the same (same with the edge paris) and the stack height is similar. Very interesting shoe. I'll have to check it out since I love the VP2
Awesome review! I have been a Saucony girl for over 40 years and within the last year have converted to Puma. Love every pair of Pumas that I have. As a petite lady, I still love the Elite 1s. Elite 2s seemed too heavy. Considering Elite 3s 😊
I just started running about a year ago and as a newbie runner you are faced with a problem on which shoe fits you perfectly. Im so glad i came across puma, dont get me wrong, i have different shoes from different brands but when push comes to shove, i always reach for my cats.
Still rockin' my DNE1s (I believe you reviewed the Tracksmith edition). It's one of my favorite speed day shoes. Not as fast as my TS9 but wayyy more comfy. Itching to try that aliphatic TPU. Pity they didn't bring it to the DN3.
love your breakdown of shoes...it makes me think/ be more aware of sensations when I run...Nabbed some deviate nitro 2 this year when then went on sale based on your previous review - they are working well...Thx Mike!
Great review video as per always 👏. I've just pulled the trigger on a pair of fast r nitro elite 2s as advise from youelf and Eddbud and looking forward to racing in them. Will accompany my other puma's the liberate 2 and velocity 1s, also run in adidas.
I have the DN2, and have tons of miles in it, it is so durable that it still looks and feels ok... i am looking for a race day shoe, and with the experience with the DN2, I would have to go with the DNE3...
Did puma made the shoe that new balance cant do with balancing the freshfoam and fuel cell tech? I think Puma is doing something here and I like how the market is giving us a lot of choices. Thanks Mike for this review
I gave my original foreverrun away because I didnt get on with them. But recently came across the newer knit version which has a lower drop and a better upper (imo) and they are dreamy soft and smooth
personally, I would prefer the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 for the marathon distance. I prefer the aliphatic TPU over the current iteration of Zoom X foam that is in the Vaporfly 3 but I suspect that for many people, if you can run well in the one, you can probably run well in the other
Nice review! Im also more power/lower cadence but need generally wider toe box. Have DNE 2 and DN2 and would love to get to DNE 3 but the narrowness sucks 😕 So hard to tell what shoes will suit wider foot runner. New Balance have wider standard, but also wider options but also amongst most expensive of the race shoes
Both are great options. The Deviate Nitro Elite 3 is lightweight and snappy but comfortable at a wide variety of paces. The Endorphin zero 4 is more stable and softer, but it’s also heavier and less aggressive
Thats because several Puma models dont have a US 12.5… i went a half size up on my deviate nitro 2‘s. Was a bit too long, slight mid foot lock down issue, but no heel slippage
I'm always hearing that you should go half a size down in the puma deviate nitro elite 3 compared to the vaporfly 3 for example. Is that true? I'm having a 44,5 in the VP3, so should I buy a 44EU in the PDNE3?
I think you definitely should. For two reasons. Check the US sizing and you will see that Puma US10.5 is EU 44 and Nike US10.5 is EU 44.5. So if you were seeing it as an American customer, you'd be getting the same size in both Nike and Puma (10.5), but the Puma would be half a size down in EU sizing. And I confirm that this is true, I need Puma 45 (US 11.5) for my DN2 and Nike 45.5 (US 11.5) for my Pegasus for example to have the same length/room for the toes. The second reason you should go for the 44, is that the DNE3 runs even longer than the other Puma shoes (the DN2 and the Foreverrun which I have both.).
if I have to generalize and compare Endorphins (which I will define only as Endorphin Speed 4 and Endorphin Pro 4 and will exclude Endorphin Elite 1 and 2 and also exclude Endorphin Shift) to the Nitros (which I will define as Deviate Nitro Elite 3 and Deviate Nitro 3 and specifically disclaim Velocity Nitro 3 and Liberate Nitro 2), then I'd say the Endorphins are softer but less responsive. but it's kind of a difficult question to answer
couple thoughts: 1) I believe the plate in VF3 starts near the foot in the heel and then scoops low in front of the arch. so I could be wrong, but I don't think that the plate stays near the foot for the entire length of the VF3. looking at the plate through the window on the bottom of the shoe indicates an angle that swoops the plate away from the foot as you approach the pads of the foot 2) similarly, the plate in the DNE3 starts about in the middle of the stack in the heel and then scoops away from the foot at a sharp angle in front of the arch. RunnersNerd on IG has a really informative reel that shows the plate and foam pieces separately.
Hi Kofuzi; I love the Puma Velocity Nitro 3 as daily shoe. It is a very good shoe for heelstriking. The heel feels very stable and secure. Is it the same with the heel in this shoe? What would you say is the best race shoe for heelstrikers?
A1. yes, but relatively speaking for a racing shoe with racing foam A2. I generally don't like to use the word best (because I don't know which criteria a person includes when evaluating best), but it would be a shoe worth trying
Same problem here. It’s out of stock everywhere (at least in the US), including on Puma’s website… It’s like Puma doesn’t actually want people to bug the shoe!

Hi, I’m currently considering between Salomon S/LAB PHANTASM 2 and ON CLOUDMONSTER HYPER and I saw borh of your product review videos but can’t decide by myself. What would you go for?
@housinihou Another helpful way to decide is to try to find a brick and mortar store that has both in stock (Roadrunner Sports, eg) and actually try them on and test them yourself. It’s always better to see how a shoe works for your individual build and biomechanics in the end if you have that option. Or order both from Running Warehouse and return the one that doesn’t work as well for you. They have a nice return policy even after wearing them outside.
we are at a point in the industry where there isn't an objective absolute answer anymore. a lot of the decision is going to come down to preferences and mechanics of the runner. personally, I prefer the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 over the Endorphin Pro 4
I ended up preferring the Endo Pro3 over v4. It’s not quite as soft (which for me is preferable in this case) and suits my quick turnover better. I stocked up on two late-date-manufactured pairs recently-highly discounted on Running Warehouse.
I have DNE2 in my standard size and they feel really tight, should I size up with DNE3? I plan to use them for my 1st marathon. Some feet swelling is expected as I am experiencing it from the 2-3,5 hour long runs.
I’d recommend trying to find a place where you can try them on. Version 3 fits differently than version 2, and depending on where and how they feel right, the differences may be enough. If you absolutely cannot find a place to try them on, size up.
@@kofuzi thanks, these carbon shoes are usually missing in all the local shops, so I just ordered online - 1 size bigger without trying and I am hoping for the best :) if it will be slightly bigger, I can use proper thicker socks, which I couldn't do at all in the previous case

That’s two very different questions. 1) this is not great for daily training 2) I don’t have a problem with daily training in a shoe that has a plate, per se. it’s not as simple as “plate=bad”
@@kofuzi I tried to get both questions to go in the same direction: that I find plated shoes in general to provide a bit more assistance than the non-plated shoes and if that is the case, it might be safe to assume that you get more of a workout in the shoes without plates. More to the point, it takes more energy output to move down the road and therefore a runner increases leg strength with the necessary endurance following. Doctors of running seem to also postulate the same conclusion. As a show reviewer, with much more experience than I have, I was wondering if you noticed that general phenomenon. If I move more into specifics then I find that I get a better workout in shoes such as the SB2 and the NB Balos more than the B12 or the DN3. I just find myself basically fitter the next day when daily training in non-plated shoes. Not to say plate is bad, they help with extending my distance and over enthusiasm. Just wondering if you have noticed any of my aforementioned thoughts. Thanks
Without speculating on what a brand may or may not be thinking when publishing a weight, I assume that there is likely variance in weight that randomly occurs due to variances that may exist in the production process I’ve never tried sitting down a weighing 100 pairs of identical shoes before, but I would be shocked if they all weighed exactly the same
Someone that successful is probably courted by multiple brands and aside from monetary factors, I expect they would factor in whose shoes work for them. A shoe that doesn’t suit their biomechanics would not be conducive to maximizing their success in major races. Grumpy take indeed.
To be honest, I thought Puma was dead. Now all of a sudden they're making the best shoes out there. I'm honestly happy for them, what a remarkable come up.
A big assist to Nike’s terrible business plan of the last 1/2 decade. Gave air to Puma, Saucony, NB, and even allowed for OC to grow from nothing.

Kofuzi owns a VF3 😲
Do you know where the plate is placed in the shoe? Near the foot like the VF3 or near the ground like the Edge?

it's the shoe depicted in the livestream clip at the end of the video. it arrived to me two days before this video was published
Yo, what’s going on!!
yo Luis!
Would you use a show like this for daily miles? A bit more to the point- do you think it’s a good idea to train in plated hoes?
That’s two very different questions.
1) this is not great for daily training
2) I don’t have a problem with daily training in a shoe that has a plate, per se. it’s not as simple as “plate=bad”
Thanks

Awesome Review!
genuine qn, why do brands always under/over report the weight of their shoes? compared to when we actually weigh them.
Without speculating on what a brand may or may not be thinking when publishing a weight, I assume that there is likely variance in weight that randomly occurs due to variances that may exist in the production process
I’ve never tried sitting down a weighing 100 pairs of identical shoes before, but I would be shocked if they all weighed exactly the same
Love the thicker tongue
"Certainly capable enough for Olympian to use on the biggest world stage". Cut the BS. Olympian use whatever brand they are paid for.
Hahahahhaha! This is such a grumpy take
Someone that successful is probably courted by multiple brands and aside from monetary factors, I expect they would factor in whose shoes work for them. A shoe that doesn’t suit their biomechanics would not be conducive to maximizing their success in major races. Grumpy take indeed.
That person's a Debbie downer. So negative. I feel bad for the rest of the people around them
Any chance of getting the Magmax review Ko? Also, any news on Adidas Adios Pro 4? Adidas taking forever with that one. 🥲
the clip from the livestream shown at the end of this video shows my unboxing of the Magmax. I just got it two days before this video was published
