Considering that the Lumas are fated to transform into new planets/galaxies, seeing one that's just embraced the inevitability of its demise is a pretty good in-joke.
One tidbit I like is the reason why Brooklyn suddenly got flood is probably because Bowser smelt all the ice in Penguin land which lead it all leaking to the pipe somewhere.
@@sbp1763 why would Waluigi & Wario have access to a bunch of water and why would they flood Brooklyn for no reason? If it was them then they would’ve been shown in the post credits, not Yoshi
Jack Black gave such an incredible performance as Bowser. Equal parts menacing, hilarious, and just a little pathetic. And of course there's his banger song, "Peaches". Seriously, that will live rent free in my head forever.
When Charles Martinet retired from voice acting, I thought we wouldn’t hear from him again. Now the guy is the ambassador of the whole franchise. He totally deserves it!
I have a funny feeling that the reason they went with that song for that scene was because it can sound like they're saying "Ta - *Kong* - me". The music in general may be the "worst" part of the movie. Not because any of it is a bad fit or anything. But the music Brian Tyler composed is so great. Consider how great everybody thinks the super star theme was at the end, and then you find out he had to fight for that and Nintendo was instead going to use... Jump by Van Halen. And *that* choice is clearly just because of the name.
@@ducksauce9187it’s not that the songs are bad, it’s just that we could have gotten more original songs that would fit into the Mario world rather than a bunch of licensed songs which can feel out of place

I remember hearing that instead of 'Take On Me' when traveling to the Monkey kingdom, they had one of the songs from the Donkey Kong games. Illumination decided to use the final song instead, despite the scene apparently having been animated to the beats of the game's music.
The studio influence in the music department was as obvious as you could make it. Like we really thought there would be a need for pop songs when… I don’t know… this is the MARIO series? And the DONKEY KONG series???
It's actually a mash up of a bunch of music from the Donkey Kong Country games. It sounds fantastic, you can find it on the official soundtrack. All the 80s tracks had great Mario music scores made for them but they were replaced with crappy 80s tracks.
Nintendo / Illumination wrote a song for Jack Black and asked for his input and his thoughts, and he wrote the Peaches song instead, performed it and sent it back to them and they loved it. So he kind of took it on himself to write the song for it probably without it even being in his contract. Also, a funny note, in the song he says, "Peach, you're so cool!" and it reminded me of when Miyamoto introduced the cast of characters for the movie in the Nintendo Direct when he said about Chris Pratt "He's so cool!" I wonder if Miyamoto was referencing the song in a subtle way since it certainly would have been written and most likely done by that point.

I think the reason they used the real life songs was just to play it safe. I think they wanted to make sure they made a good movie, so they played a lot of things safe including the music. A lot of those songs are ones that have been used over and over. They know they work, so they did it.
@@galonski64 The issue people had was that members of the crew admitted that they had a score made for the scenes that used mario music mixed and synced to the movement of the animation, but they went with jarring pop music instead because of studio intervention. The kart scene in particular could have felt like it fit more instead of feeling like a weird music video in the middle of the movie.

if you guys can, donkey kong 64 is super fun. You get to play as multiple Kongs and overall it is a very well done game. so many fond memories growing up playing that game.
The only music use that I felt was too much was the beginning Kill Bill penguin. I just love Take Me On and I need a hero so I'm always happy to hear it. The music isn't as egregious as other illumination movies. The Addam's family music was terrible.
This movie was a blast. Though I will admit that the licensed music took me out of it every time. It also stings because the official soundtrack has songs that were supposed to play in those sections. Hoping someone makes a fan edit that changes the music out where possible.
Must be hard being in your group and mostly not being able to go to the movies or watch shows you want because you have to wait for the group reaction.
Not really, cause they can. Plenty of movies some of them saw in theaters cause they just couldn't wait. Like take Spider-Verse. Most of the crew was fine waiting to do a reaction, but Aaron really wanted to see it, so him and Melanie saw it with their family. And plenty of shows they watch on their own too. They can watch whatever they want, but are just fine waiting for most things (also its their job, so imagine you'd find it easier to wait for things knowing you make a living off it)
If I had to compare this movie to another, it have to be "Ratchet & Clank." (Not just because both were made by Universal.) Mario and Ratchet are both small time wokers who dream of doing bigger things. Both of them also have "accidents" at the start of their movies. (Mr. Microns ship for Ratchet, and the plumbing problem for Mario.) Mario and Ratchet also go through character development throughout their movies. (Both of them also want to help others and do good, and become heroes in their own rights.) It took me some time to realize how similar both of these movies are. (If they haven't seen the Ratchet & Clank movie yet, I highly recommend they watch it.)
It's annoying because the composers did make video game adapted tracks for all those licensed song parts of the film (except for No Sleep till Brooklyn, I believe), but movie executives denied them and insisted on playing it safe with licensed tracks that, as Rick says, really take you out of the movie. It was a cowardly move, if you ask me. They had to fight to keep the invincibility star music in it. To address Rick's question about that, I think the reason it works with Shrek is because Shrek is pretty satirical of the fairy tale genre and the contemporary songs are a part of that humorous tone. Even then, they're getting covered by Donkey in-universe half the time. The Mario movie, on the other hand, as much as it's a kids movie, it is taking itself seriously. It's not meant to have a meta element to its setting or jokes (for the most part - there are references but they're to the broader game universe, not pop culture). So the licensed tracks are just jukeboxing a movie that is the same with or without those songs whereas Shrek loses a little of its intended satire if you take out its songs.
In terms of a sequel I hope they don't go straight to Wario and Waluigi, I'd like to see King Wart from Mario 2 make an appearance since Shy Guys first came from Mario 2 (obv doki doki panic but...)
Here are the cast that I hope to appear in Super Mario Bros 2: Chris Pratt- Mario Anya Taylor-Joy- Princess Peach Charlie Day- Luigi Emma Stone or Zendaya- Princess Daisy Jack Black- Bowsler Walker Scobell- Bowsler Jr/ Diddy Kong Keegan Michael-Key- Toad Seth Rogen- Donkey Kong Fred Armisen- Cranky Kong with Bill Hader as Waluigi Ke Huy Quan as Yoshi and Pedro Pascal as Wario (I also heard Jack Black, who voice Bowsler, wanted Pedro to voice Wario)

I believe the toad Royal guards were designed based on the Swiss Guards
Completely random but King Bobomb is the most adorable thing ive ever laid eyes on, ever
I loved this movie.. seen it 3 times in theaters not one empty seat either time..us non TH-camrs love needle drops like this movie had...8/10 for me
seeing any movie more than once is a waste of time
Was just making my lunch and suddenly remembered I could watch this today and it’s made my day hahah so excited
Fun fact Chris Pratt was mario in this movie and he played 2 roles in the same year and the same song no sleep till Brooklyn started playing in both the movies Chris Pratt was in this year
Seeing this in theaters was such a treat 😁
Rick whiffing on Geno’s name. Then Aaron say he’s never played it. Remake is coming out in a couple months boys!
Super Sonic and Super Shadow 21:54
17:53 it’s the eel from 64
Unagi
@@bemasaberwyn55 that’s that bastards name? Thank you now I can curse them by name!!!
I loved Luma😂
if you guys can, donkey kong 64 is super fun.
This got me so excited for Mario Wonder
This movie was a blast. Though I will admit that the licensed music took me out of it every time. It also stings because the official soundtrack has songs that were supposed to play in those sections. Hoping someone makes a fan edit that changes the music out where possible.
35:43 That’s why I don’t watch trailers when I know I’m gonna see the movie. They are like mini spoilers,
I didn't know it was Jack Black until he sang peaches lmao
10:44 older twin brother.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15:05 15:06 Seth Rogen Dk laugh 😂😂😂
Must be hard being in your group and mostly not being able to go to the movies or watch shows you want because you have to wait for the group reaction.
Not really, cause they can. Plenty of movies some of them saw in theaters cause they just couldn't wait. Like take Spider-Verse. Most of the crew was fine waiting to do a reaction, but Aaron really wanted to see it, so him and Melanie saw it with their family. And plenty of shows they watch on their own too. They can watch whatever they want, but are just fine waiting for most things (also its their job, so imagine you'd find it easier to wait for things knowing you make a living off it)
If I had to compare this movie to another, it have to be "Ratchet & Clank." (Not just because both were made by Universal.)
Mario and Ratchet are both small time wokers who dream of doing bigger things. Both of them also have "accidents" at the start of their movies. (Mr. Microns ship for Ratchet, and the plumbing problem for Mario.)
Mario and Ratchet also go through character development throughout their movies. (Both of them also want to help others and do good, and become heroes in their own rights.)
It took me some time to realize how similar both of these movies are.
So the licensed tracks are just jukeboxing a movie that is the same with or without those songs whereas Shrek loses a little of its intended satire if you take out its songs.
holyshit a “Warriors of Virtue” reference
What a fun guy to be around Rick is 😒
THE BEST VIDEO GAME MOVIE EVER!
In terms of a sequel I hope they don't go straight to Wario and Waluigi, I'd like to see King Wart from Mario 2 make an appearance since Shy Guys first came from Mario 2 (obv doki doki panic but...)
No dogs were injured or killed in this movie.
Chris Pratt did good as Mario and he should the normal Mario voice during there commercial and it sounded great
Here are the cast that I hope to appear in Super Mario Bros 2:
Chris Pratt- Mario
Anya Taylor-Joy- Princess Peach
Charlie Day- Luigi
Emma Stone or Zendaya- Princess Daisy
Jack Black- Bowsler
Walker Scobell- Bowsler Jr/ Diddy Kong
Keegan Michael-Key- Toad
Seth Rogen- Donkey Kong
Fred Armisen- Cranky Kong
with Bill Hader as Waluigi
Ke Huy Quan as Yoshi
and Pedro Pascal as Wario (I also heard Jack Black, who voice Bowsler, wanted Pedro to voice Wario)
yoshi shouldn't talk that would be a horrible idea.
I remember when this movie came out. Yall really reacted the old school one 😂
since nobody else said it... Bless You
