    Great quartet. It is so good watching these videos from the old times when people dress different than today. Their hair style, their voice were different than today. Only one thing was the same:praise God through the music.

    This is a great song. It is hard to believe that two men in the middle are Duane Allen & Bill Golden. Can't get enough of this song.

    Bass is Herman Harper of Portland fountain head community. He had several brothers and a sister all Portland panthers.

      Fowler moved to Nashville, and from 1946-50 became a regular part of The Prince Albert Show segment of the Grand Ole Opry on NBC Radio. In 1948, he launched his first all-night gospel sing, popularizing a format that would blanket the South over the next two decades. Originating from Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium and later taken to other major cities across the region, each show featured many of the day's premier Southern gospel quartets.[7] Fowler's innate promotional genius took gospel music to a much larger audience than ever before.

    tenor Willie Wynn, Duane Allen Lead, William Golden Baritone, Herman Harper Bass Singer, what a great Gospel Quartet bursting with that southern Gospel Quartet style back in those days. Why did they haft to fool with country music many people asked through the years?

    • @hankgillette
      @hankgillette 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because they were having trouble earning a living, plus they were catching a lot of grief from gospel audiences because they let their hair grow out a little.

      @@hankgillette they was clean cut shaved here neat hair they sort of left the traditional style of southern gospel got into contemporary gospel grew beards & long hair then it went down hill and went from Heart Warming Records to Columbia Records who didn't focus on promoting gospel music quit dressing up folks didn't like that neither after that didn't work they tried county music. They finally made it. Was put on ABC/MCA Records! Until years later went @ signed to RCA then the guy that sign them to RCA quit & the new guy didn't wanna promote Oak Ridge Boys Concerts wanted to focus promoting & push Alabama Concerts who had been established with RCA for years already. I'd thought they'd been enough room for both of them to thrive. Recently Alabama & The Oak Ridge Boys got together to record a few songs together. I been looking for it can't wait to hear it. First time they ever recorded together.

      Paupers Budget yes Duane Allen Lead, to the right of him the best dressed looking one of them back then was William Lee Golden before he lost his Razer. He was always the sharpest dressed one out of the whole bunch back then. He really wasn't that great at singing the part they claim. Many said he was real arrogant back then too. He replaced Big Jim Hamill, Jim Hamill went back to the Rebels Quartet. They claim Jim was hard to get along with. Bill Golden talked them into getting rid of Jim. Then he replaced Jim. We all know Jim Hamill later put the Kingsmen on the map.

      *TheShospitali* yeah I see it now at 0:02 they are the two in the middle with Lee on your right and Duane on the left. My sons mother got mad at me when I said the Oak Ridge boys were way over 50 years old. She said that they got started in the early to mid 70's. I told her that she only knows the Country Oak Lineup but the Gospel started way earlier. She likes the current lineup and to her that is the only group she knows. . .Pure amature. . .LOL

    In this video I see Bill Golden, now known as William Lee Golden, (Here he is 2nd from the right.)very much as he appeared on that singular day in late 1966 or early 1967 when he came by to visit his Uncle John P. Morgan (one of his mother's [Rutha Mae Morgan Golden's] four brothers) to meet me, and to see his new-born first cousin, John's and my daughter whom we named Valerie Letitia Morgan. [Had my child been a boy instead of a girl, I had John's permission to name the baby Arthur Frank Morgan (in honor of the baby's two great-grandfathers, Arthur Morgan, and my own dad, Dr. Frank K. Haynes). After about a two-hour visit with us, and concluding a view of our precious, beautiful and very long thick brown-haired, brown-eyed daughter with skin as fair as that of the fairest of the fair, who was in her roll-around metal bassinet, and accepting our hospitality of my quickly prepared lunch, Bill Golden bid the three of us "Adieu". I never saw Bill Golden again in person. But because I was a high-school English teacher, Rutha Mae used to send me copies of her poems for my perusal and suggestions--Christian poems that she wrote to be sung by the Oak Ridge Boys. Back in those day, as I recall it now, the Oak Ridge Boys sang only Christian songs. Rutha Mae would also send me the group's recordings (on records back in those days), which I was thrilled to receive.
