Interestingly enough, he's originally from New Jersey, a bit of a surprise considering the obvious country music styling of the Boys.
Its so funny because everyone who didnt know this band ASSUMED the deep voiced guy was the zztop looking guy.. Yet it was the one who looked like he should be the lead singer... funny how judging by the cover of the book....

Went to their Christmas Concert last night, of course they sang Elvira. These guys are still doing great at their ages. Richard can still hit the low notes very well.
Richard Sturban's voice could melt lead. It's not just how deep he can go, it's how smooth his voice still is at that low end..... like the smoothest whiskey.
In 1977 I had just bought a new AMC Hornet AMX with the 304 V8. In 1978 I had a Craig AM FM stereo an 8 track tape player with the 4 speaker sub sound installed. I had bought the Oak Ridge Boys greatest hits 8 track tape, and would just crank up the volumn to that Elvira song. I'm sure I drove a lot of people nuts at a stop light in the day playing it loud in that AMX, really miss those days, sigh.
I live far far away from America. And in my country don't listen country music. But my wife's name is Elvira and I wanted to find song for her birthday. and I found it. It's awesome! I want to see her face when she hears a song about herself!
I was 10 years old when the Oak Ridge Boys released the version of Elvira. I loved this song and sang to it a lot as a kid. I still love this song today. Richard Sterban was so handsome. I remember thinking that as a kid too. :)
They sang Elvira before it was released at Radio City Music Hall, Wheeling West Virginia on a Saturday when my wife and I were in the audience. It was a live radio show up and down the eastern seaboard of the US. Rusty Frizell was the preact before them and sang "Gonna Get A Whino" (to decorate our home). Some 30 years later to the exact date they sang at Wheeling, they sang it at the Windsor Ontario (Canada) Casino and the wife and I were in the audience as we lived close to the casino. What a great experience that was to be there excatly 30 years later. They could still break a leg!
My mother used to love the Oakridge boys and would listen to them when she was cleaning the house. This song reminds me of the episode of Mike and Molly when Mike buys his mother's car !

Always had to laugh. Back in the day when this was a current hit I had a lot of friends that did a lot of roller skating. Nobody would admit to liking this song but as soon as they played it at the rink the entire skating floor was so packed with people we hardly had room to move!
