This taping was made in the last few weeks, if not days of Willie Wynn singing with Oaks. When these songs were released on an album, Joe Bonsall had joined the group.
@@tbkulavik William Lee Golden hair did not get longer til they went country Check out the album covers of the Columbia records they were still singing Gospel mainly on Columbia records
Yes i was wondering. I didn't know Willie ever sung these songs. So who's voice was on the album then? Joe was in the picture but it didn't sound like him on What A Time?
Jason Pope Willie Wynn sang with the Oaks from 1959-73 when Joe joined the group. This had to have taken place about that time because Richard Sterban replaced Noel Fox as bass in '72.
1973. The Oak Ridge Boys had recorded the songs for their first album on Columbia with Willie Wynn, then Willie Wynn left the group and Joe Bonsall went in and overdubs What A Time We'll Have Over There.
Wow, so young now that the end is near, but they never lost their Gospel roots.
Aired on March 16, 1974.
My pappy used to sing this song every time he brought his guitar out. I miss him so much, but I'm glad I have this song to remember him ♥️
This song stuck in my head 🗣️ and I sing it every time it comes on

Weeks if not days before William Lee Golden started growing his beard too.

It was Joe on What a Time. Willie had a different type of tenor. Listen to Loves Me Like a Rock. You'll hear Willie.@@davekauffman5520
I love all of songs by the Oakridge Boys
Absolute showstopper! Whoa so awesome!
Have to give some due to the Oaks Band that backed the Oak Ridge Boys. They were a great group in their own right.
I love this song one day he going to smile on me
He’s already smiling on my mom because she’s up there.
IIRC that was their last performance as a Gospel band. They went county shortly after.
Allen and Golden were apparently aspiring ELVIS tribute artists!
BL Roberts was the syle then!
Talk to the man next to them who had just left singing with Elvis to join the Oaks
@@markbrewer4862 Yes! Sterban had just left J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who were part of ELVIS's onstage entourage.
First time I ever saw the Oak Ridge Boys.
I love these songs wish willie was still the oaks such a good tenor
Yeah I love Joe Bonsall but man Willie is one amazing singer....
Thank you both for your sweet comments about "Little Willie", great singer and even better father...
Willie went on to sing with the Tennesseans that backed up Billy “Crash” Craddock
Man, I loved Willie Wynn's voice. Other than Sterban, he was my favorite Oak Ridge Boy

What year did Garland leave? (NO GOOGLING! 😎)
Who are these Oak Ridge Boys? Which year was this
champbear90 Thx. I'd have guessed 72 - 73 based on clothes & hair.
Duane, William Lee and Richard, don’t know the tenor

Who was the drummer? He was really good!
Mark Ellerbe was the Oaks drummer.
Who’s the guy on the left?
Willie Wynn. He was the ever-popular tenor for the ORB for years before Joe Bonsall joined them later this same year.
Who is singing the Tenor?
Willie Wynn
My daddy Willie Wynn, he was replaced by Joe Bonsall
Joe was a good choice, glib & well-spoken.SO glad they all dressed the way they wanted.

Show
Only two are oak ridge boys I don't know the others
Theyre all the oaks. This is before Joe Joined in 1973. But the third from the left is William as he proudly says "before I lost my razor!"
@@markbrewer4862 Nice response. I bet Tammie still doesn't believe you--but that is William Lee Golden for sure!
Which one is Joe Bonsall
Neither one. Joe joined a little while later after this. I think a year or so later
I can easily identify Duane and Richard, I assume maybe William between them and Willie is on the far left??
CC Marshall Golden will almost always be between Richard & Duane, as is the case here.
Willie Wynn: The "Pete Best" of the Oak Ridge Boys... look it up.
This performance was on November 12, 1996.
You might need to double-check that date.
