Tim Buckley one of the greatest of artists respected by all other artists, an unbelievable range unmatched by most, 'The Siren' exceptional. A poem.

Gotta say this was never one of my top Tim songs. I give him credit for trying new things with his voice, but at a certain point, I had to give up. He certainly had tremendous range and I don't think he ever sang an off note.

That's why he is the better Buckley.

Love Tim but yet to have taken a liking to Jeff though I've given him a modest try over the years.. Have made recs to various channels over the years to no avail. Guess you need to be on a channels Patreon and I'm not even subbed to most. Ah well. Perhaps when I retire in a.few years will feel like bothering with all that.

No hyperbole here, but this guy had the greatest voice ever. He did for the voice what Jimi did for the guitar!

Hauntingly beautiful. Tim is Jeff Buckleys father. Both passed young. Both had a distinct sound. A lot of airplay in Detroit on WABX in the early 70’s. Thank you.

Also became a huge fan of Tim Buckley in early 70s in DETROIT on WABX. Saw Tim at his last concert (wrongly opening for a rowdy and drugged/drunk Rush main event). Just like these people don’t seem to register the genius of Tim Buckley upon hearing for the first time, that crowd couldn’t fathom the subtlety of the performance and Tim left Detroit in anger. It was the last concert before he died tragically in 1975. A few years later, I went to a wedding in Orange County, Ca where I was shocked to meet an adolescent Scotty (Jeff Buckley).
Tim was sadly, a man who never found commercial success despite an enormous body of work. Recommend looking into the other tracks on Greetings from LA, See also Honeyman, Blue Afternoon, Sefronia, Look at the Fool, etc. The single, Once I Was, at the beginning of his career, is one of the most beautiful masterpieces ever written, IMHO.

If I was to suggest anything as an introduction to Tim Buckley it would be from his first two albums Tim Buckley and Hello Goodbye.
His last few albums were very jazz orientated.
I found his album Lorca to be the most challenging of his works.
    Another tragically died too young.

Interesting, it's more common to see reactions to Jeff!
Both pretty intriguing singer/songwriter types. I think personally i prefer Tim's stuff, he reminds me of Terry Reid somewhat, though i dont think Terry Reid has anything like the same vocal range.

Tim Buckley’s voice was incredible. At any range crisp and clear. I would listen to “Sweet Surrender” on the radio driving home from work at midnight every night on K101 Houston. My introduction to many great artists not played on pop radio. AOR stations were the best. This was around 1973.

This is the hit song from one of the best albums of the 70s. Many of the the songs here are so steamy , I`m sure Mick Jagger was jealous when he heard them. This is the culmination of Tim`s unlikely transition from a sensitive white poet-singer to a fully uninhibited soul singer as emotionally compelling as the famous black soul artists. He arrived at this point with all the tools, the voices, the spontaneity and the presence to produce this masterpiece. It is one of the sexiest and raunchiest albums ever. If you want to woo and seduce somebody this, along with Sam Cooke`s Live At The Harlem Square Club, are recommended albums.

Tim Buckley was Jeff's father. He died at 27 of an overdose when Jeff was 7. Roughly 20 years later, Jeff Buckley released Grace and like his dad, died young at 29 by drowning. I enjoy Tim's voice more than his son's, but I'm more familiar with Jeff Buckley because he got a lot of hype in the mid 90's.

If you can find it - listen to "Live at the Troubadour 1969". The first track, "Strange Feeling" is good, but tracks 6-8 are 3 songs of perfection in a row: "Blue Melody", "Chase the Blues Away" and "Driftin'". Great guitar work, but his voice is much more playful, casual and experimental at times. Effortless range and emotion.

what was said about tim bucklets voice is ... "what hendrix could do on the guitar .. tim buckley could do with his voice " this record .. greeting from LA '74 ... is a classic .. would duggest to listen to whole album in one sitting from start to finish ... to fully apreciate its beauty ... most oldies my age 60ish would have it in their collection ,, was very well known yrs ago ...

The lush string arrangement was an anomaly for this album and oretty much all Tim's works but I don't hate it, just prefer the version of this song from Honeyman that doesn't have it.

Ok, this was never one of my favorite Tim songs. Try another -- Buzzin' Fly, Song of the Sired (Starsailor version). Anything from the Happy/Sad album, Blue afternoon. Tim was my favorite in the 60s and put on brilliant shows but after a certain point he lost me. He was all about stretching the boundaries and he did. I didn't like it all, but this gorgeous man had tremendous vocal range. And far better vocal control than his son Jeff.

  • @NoBeard-v8b
    @NoBeard-v8b หลายเดือนก่อน

Tim thought of his voice as an instrument. His prior two albums were very experimental - Lorca & the magnificent Starsailor - but the record company apparently wanted him to make another 'proper' album and this was it. I can heartily recommend anything of his but don't dive right into Starsailor. Blue Afternoon is a good place to start or just start at the beginning and follow the ride. Tragic family, sadly. Both him and his son died far too soon. Miss them both.
