- There isn't one clear reason why pets eat grass. What we do know is that eating small amounts can be a harmless, if curious, thing for a perfectly healthy dog or cat to do. But when nibbling turns into gulping, it's time to ask your vet what's going on.

I live in a community in south Florida where the grass is treated with toxins to kill off frogs and other small critters, they even put up small temporary cautions signs once in a while...
DON'T let your dog eat this kind of grass
My dog will go on runs with me and will take a couple chomps. It's quite funny, but sometimes on rare occasions he will throw up.

So, what kibble dog food do you recommend? Personally I'm distrustful of Vets that are younger than 50 with a high over head office! I'm 72 have owned "working dogs" all my life. My previous Vet that died recently at age 88 was a wonder, his office was drab from the turn of the century decor. Many times or few times my pups would catch a bug, I would call my vet, he would say bring in 1 or 2 pups and stool sample, he would diagnose the condition and prescribe accordingly for all the pups and adults. Once my vet was on vacation so I was forced to call another vet, they wanted me to bring in all the pups and the parents! They were going to charge me for each dog I brought in! Talk about padding the bill! Another time one of my most valuable dog, was either poisoned or was bowel obstructed, basically he was dying! The vet suggested the options, I decided let do a blood screen and abdominal XR. But instead they gave a dying dog a full coarse of 3 different antibiotics. Also, I brought my dog in with an IV I inserted, a task I have been doing for over 50 years. They took out the IV I placed and but a new one in and charged me! I asked what was wrong with the IV I placed, the aid said nothing but the vet ordered a new one and added to the bill. After awhile a surgical team came in and suggested they do an exploratory surgery that would have cost $8000. this for a dying dog!
My old vet would have gave me the information and would have humanely euthanize my dog. So, young vet are not to be trusted and if recommend a brand a kibble, they are definitely in the pockets of the dog food industry.
People out there, if you own dogs, find and get friendly with dog breeders and farmers, they have been treating their animals for ever! Learn every thing you can, google it and save yourself the inflated prices of the new breed of Vets out there. Oh, its no big deal if your animal eats grass, I add spinach or kale to my dogs feed and I feed "RAW".
They fancy a bit of salad now and then like we do.

My dog eats grass all the time. After he finish going to the bathroom he will just walk a graze. If you let him stay outside by himself he will barf up a grass ball in the shape of his stomach the next day.
dogs or cats eat grass if they are experiencing upset stomach. possibly a too basic or too acidic food. A grass might neutralize the acidity before they throw it up to avoid heart burn
My dog always ate grass, but now with diabetes he's trying to bindge and it makes me vomit
My dog keeps eating grass once in a while. He just did it this morning on his walk. We went to the vet a few weeks ago and they said that it's what wolves do in the wild when they aren't feeling well to help the vomit sooner. Now he isn't eating. I have a feeling he is now because I hear chomping lol.

I was thinking the same thing. I can picture her getting home from work, taking off the glasses, taking the pin out of her hair, and tossing her head around to get her hair to fall down. All while Marvin Gaye's song "Let's get it on" is playing.... Lol

Eating grass can be dangerous for dogs....Long grasses can cause grass balls in the digestive tract in which when it enters the small intestine it cannot pass and can cause a blockage causing many complications. Grasses take longer to break down hence the blockage. If your dog is unfortunate to pass the grass ball surgery will be required.
