The Marines and Mechanicus I could understand, since they’re too busy dealing with other shit. The Custodes on the other hand should’ve clapped him long before they finally got involved. Especially since we know they have agents and operatives outside the Imperial palace and would’ve been fully aware of what was going on.

The age of apostasy is even more interesting when you think that Big E himself must’ve been at least a little bit conscious of what was going on, but for the first time in his thousands of years of existence could not do anything about it. Except create warp storms and scream a lot.
He needed Thor to fix it for him. For the first time ever, he had to rely on someone else. Not because he was too busy or couldn’t be bothered, but because he was physically incapable of solving the problem by himself.
That has to have been a hell of an experience for him.
Imagine his frustration at the Legio Custodes dicking around in the palace and having no idea what's going on.

I just have to disagree on a small point. The Big E very often relied on others to solve problems for him, even if he was just a guiding hand (like with Thor solving the Age of Apostasy).
He relied on Malcador to not only help build the Emporium, but relied on Malcador's wisdom & knowledge near the collapse during the Horace Heracy, to build & establish the institutions that would guide the Emporium if the emperor died or became incapacitated.
And also relied on Malcador to find the right people, hand-picking those who would run these new institutions.
And relied on Malcador's psycker powers, to help power the Golden Throne when he couldn't while dealing with Horace.
He relied on many war heros to handle situations through out the galaxy.
He also relied on many, many others. Like the other immortals like Malcador, with many of those helping build his original warriors. As well as doing many other things in helping build the Emporium
Then relied on the Genetic moon cults to build better ( and more on a larger scale) space Marines.
He relied on Members of the mechanicum, when making a treaty with mars, to build and supply his weapons & warships.
He also relied on the "mother of the Primarchs" in order to get his primarchs made. Even though she shot Them into space headed for unknown worlds.
He Relied on many people to solve problems.
@@masstv9052 I understand your point, and please excuse me if I get details wrong. This is all just my opinion, my read of the character.
Personally, I think it’s one thing to chose to enlist the aid of the people around you in order to accomplish a goal it would take too much time or be too troublesome to do yourself. It’s another to suddenly have no choice in the matter.
Before, the Emperor at least had the option of intervening personally if he saw the need. Now, his Imperium, everything he fought for, is in very dire need, and he CAN’T intervene personally, no matter how badly he may want to. He might want to crush Vandire’s head like a grape, but he can’t do that from his chair. He has no choice but to get someone else to do it for him.
He has all the power in the universe, except for the power to make his situation any better.
One of my favorite things about the Age of Apostacy was after Vandire was dead, and Thor wasn't going to assume power. He basically got told he WOULD accept, or he'd be killed as a heretic. Not wise to turn down the Imperium.
What’s wild is that Big E’s biggest flaw was always thinking he could do everything himself. He was an all powerful immortal being. So as a result, he didn’t build a throne or an astronomicon or even really an Imperium that could function without him. Why, when he was going to live forever?
Then the age of apostasy happens and for the first time in his existence, the Emperor is powerless to stop it. He needs Thor to do it for him. For the first time, he has to rely on someone else.

@@evanlight2550 the writing does imply much larger scale destruction and it's always so inconsistent. Like the conquest of Ullanor, the largest battle in the great crusade only had like 30 mil combatants. If it was 30 billion that would make more sense.

The million clones part really doesn’t make sense when this army is meant to cross an entire galaxy with billions of worlds with just as many moons and bases in space.
So when in 40k I hear a trillion, a number that just feels so small to such a power and large empire like the Imperium, I just feel like there should be more dead or at least more destruction.

@@vassily-labroslabrakos2263 The Assassins War happened between the War of the Beast and the Age of Apostasy. At its end the Ordo Assassinorum was established and the High Lords were given more strict control over the Assassin clades.
Great video. I agree that being a citizen of the Imperium would suck worse during the Age of Apostasy unless you where on a world the Chaos Astartes invaded. However the Horus Heresy wrecked the Imperium far worse by destroying the Mechanicum and innovation as well as the Astartes Legions that would wreck everything but the Necrons in current 40K. Either way being a regular human would suck.

Well, since the political system of the Imperium is a shit semi-feudal Imperial dystopia, it's natural that shit would happen due to the state itself. It adds some believability and a bit realism to the otherwise over the top unrealistic universe.

He had to make a deal with chaos to make the primarchs, and then reneged on his end of the deal, which is why chaos flung them across the galaxy. Needless to say, thats not happening again. Also given how big a pain in the ass the half that turned traitor have been, can you imagine how awful it'd be if primarchs were made like astartes?
@@ozzymand1as Also Y'know, production overhead. Primarchs don't come cheap...part of the reason every space marine isn't a Custodes. Too many engineering and labor hours to pump them out assembly line style like they can Astartes...

Yeah I'm not a big fan of chaos either. It's cool and all, but i've never felt that everyone falling to chaos stands up to much scrutiny. Much more realistic that someone would seek power like this guy did, within the structure of the imperium. Being a part of chaos so clearly sucks, and it's not like that was unknown when all the primarchs etc started falling.

The spiritual stuff of the ecclesiarchy is arguably is what gives the receptive presence the Emporer has in the warp. Each prayer actually has an effect on the presence due to the collective unconcious acknowledgement of his power.
