  • GUESTS: Anna from Ukraine - Anna Danylchuk and Jonathan MS Pearce
    ----------
    Anna Danylchuk has been creating a war diary since the early days of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022. Anna Danylchuk aims to tell the truth about Ukraine and Russia’s war and cut through the noise and propaganda. Anna is passionate about the beauty and independence of her country, and communicates this powerfully in her videos, in a clear and honest way.
    Jonathan MS Pearce is a philosopher, author, columnist, and public speaker with an interest in writing about almost anything, from scepticism to science, politics, and morality, to the environment. Essentially because everything is philosophy. He is a former teacher and is now battling primary progressive multiple sclerosis. He can no longer play football with his twin boys, but he can still write a good column and book. And remarkably, and very bravely, he has just come back from an arduous journey to Ukraine’s frontlines. His experiences are the subject of today’s conversation.

    Democracy is hard to maintain and requires the citizenry to participate. Russian people left in the federation do not seem willing to make the effort. Sadly, they will be forever slaves until they find a collective energy to govern themselves as a free people. So much pride, so little strength, like bullies often are..

    • @mattmanc73
      @mattmanc73 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's coming straight from UK and US politicians as well. Trump was telling lies and attacking Ukraine and NATO again saying NATO provoked Russia. That is straight Russian propaganda and not one main stream media is wiling to call out Trump for parroting it.

  • @terryhand
    @terryhand 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    Great to see Anna and Jonathan back. Jonathan Pearce's comment about Russian disinformation was very pertinent today after listening to Nigel Farage's disgraceful repetition of Putin's excuse for the invasion of Ukraine.

    • @RodrickLionheart
      @RodrickLionheart 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if you had kept an eye on the geo politics of the region since the end of the Soviet Union, you would have to agree with Farage. It is not disgraceful, since the fact is that NATO has expanded over the past 30 years pretty much up to the Russian Federation's doorstep. It is more disgraceful allowing a hostile military alliance to expand.

    • @terryhand
      @terryhand 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RodrickLionheartPerhaps you might ask yourself why Russia's neighbours were so eager to join NATO. NATO was never an existential threat to Russia. The only threat NATO ever posed to Putin were to his imperial ambitions. No, I'm not surprised that Farage is repeating Kremlin propaganda almost word, and no, I don't have to agree with him. If you had kept an eye on Putin's statements for the last 30 years you would have realised that Putin's project regarding Ukraine would have happened regardless of NATO "expansionism".

    • @RodrickLionheart
      @RodrickLionheart 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trump winning might actually be the best thing to end this conflict. Ukraine will have to negotiate an end to the war and they’ll get their bad guy to sell to their people that they had no other choice . The west will shift its focus toward Asia, which is really going to happen regardless. Europe just isn’t that important anymore strategically. The only difference is if the status quo continues. This war is going to drag on for many more years. Ukraine will lose more territory and most likely be destroyed as a state . They won’t lose everything but they’ll lose their ability to function like a proper country and they’ll just be left a rump state. Which outcome sounds better ?

    I think the Russian people truly believe their greatness of the "Motherland." They cannot fathom the old soviet block not wanting to be "great" again. This idea comes from my many Russian friends in the US. They have started to wake , but before they all talked about their glorious Russia.

    • @RodrickLionheart
      @RodrickLionheart 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that you will find that the 'greatness of the motherland', is not much different to those loving their country, culture and history et UK, France, US etc...... unfortunately, this has been mis interpreted as some kind of expansionism. The Russians has been there, done it, seen it, got the t-shirt, they are non longer in the empire business (although there are those in the Duma, who are, but not Putin).

    June 20th, 2024, read in Putler's Personal diary:
    (Day 849 of the 3-days "Special Military Operation"):
    - It's all good. I went down to NK (no planes malfunction - tks to my last 50 trusted Engineers), grooving with my buddy "kim" downtown Pyongyang in a German-made Mercedes LIMO!
    - That's right! A German LIMO! Pal, I swear, ain't no Lada I'll tell ya! We could even stand UP! The both of us! And God knows that lil kim ain't so little wide-wise!
    -Standing up with no cope-cage! It felt... "liberating"!
    -All day, we did groove 'n cruise and I guarantee ya, even a few Western media were "D-enough" to publish our insta picks in that (other German-made ) car! ! Just like we were Jay-Low and what's his name? That famous guy who does not look russian enough?
    But I digress... Still on today June 20th...
    - We signed a military pamphlet directly threatening South Korea... !! Can you believe it!?
    - We did! Against South Korea! One of the biggest and most modern military equipment manufacturers in the World! Ain't making this up!
    - The idea is for NK to help me (ru) threaten Ukraine...
    June 21st:
    - I got home safely. Now checking my troll army if they have shared and liked my pics
    June 22nd 2025:
    Oh well. It's been a year now. I miss these fond memories with kim.

Should be compulsory for all our modern dumb 'press' who know nothing of critical thinking and knowing how to read back 3-4 steps between the lines of the bull espoused by putrids propaganda machinery. putin surrounding himself with 'yes' men providing him with unverified information reminds me of that funny scene in the first series of Blackadder, in which Brian Blessed played King Richard IV. In the scene, Richard is angry and preparing for war, when a messenger arrives at court and says: "bad news your majesty, the arch bishop is dead." Richard fumes in anger and says: "I like not this news, bring me some better news." To which the messenger leaves the room then comes straight back in and says: "good news your majesty, the arch bishop is not dead." To this, Richard says "excellent, some good news." And this is the joke. Whilst this was a funny scene, it's not funny to think that a nuclear country is being run like this in real life.

If you see that intro over and over time if you enjoy the game that intro will get into your unconscious and may at some future date influence how you view russia and America and your beliefs and level of fear. Especially iif that message is reinforced by several different sources as russia threatening to nuke America or Europe or putin claiming that russia is stronger than America or Ukraine and can not win WW3 or war in Ukraine. These games are targeted at young people with little sense of history or life experience.

Which is why the Majority of Americans will always support Ukraine! Slava Ukraine!!!

      ...except that those living in the east and south of the country are culturally Russian, The two regions in the Dombas wanted the autonomous region status with Ukraine just like Crimea, but the newly install government launched an 'anti-terror' campagne against them. So it is more like when the Union states started the war against the Confederate states in the 1860s, the south wanted to cede from the union and north did not want that to happen

    Today I've watched three different videos about conquerers and their written 'accounts' about the indigenous people they have conquered. In all of these cases the indigenous peoples didn't have a written language and therefore couldn't offer their own written accounts of what happened. Written history has always had this failing. The accepted version is the one written by the victors. I think it's fair to assume that even in ancient times propaganda was prevalent as a tool to manipulate public opinion and perception. Those who create accounts oral, written or visual are also victims of their own perception. They may actually believe that their account is true or intentionally manipulate it to further their own ambitions , either personal or political. This still happens today even in democratic societies but we at least have an opportunity to research information to at least get nearer to the truth and we can counter false claims and accusations. In Russia and other autocracies the truth is not required or even found to be important. They write the narrative to support the message they want to be heard, true or not. Russia's account of the history of the 'Great Patriotic War' (WWII) is completely different to other accounts of the same incident. They even redact their own history to make it compliant with the current message. For them information is just the means to an end and the means always justifies the end.

    Uk needs to wake up and stop Nigel Farage. Farage suggested the West "provoked" Russia's invasion of Ukraine by expanding the European Union and Nato military alliance eastwards.

      The provocation wasn't the joining of the EU, but rather the continued NATO expansion that has taken place over the past 30 years. NATO should have gone the same way as the Warsaw Pact, straight to the dustbin of history.

    Many of your versions of history contains Kremlins propaganda. I have noticed it when listening to people from western parts of Europe, like your kings and queens probably adapted it to score points with the Russian Empire... All I can say: There is a reason why our folk lore talk about darkness, there is a reason why someone that took inspiration from our stories writes about a darkness growing in the east. There is a reason why our poet 100 years ago wrote to Ukraine not to be a slave and that the tribes of Russia needs to rise up against the dark night of the tsar. Like now you hear the same darkness thing from Ukraine...
    This is why I have even said "Hitler was a teddy bear compared to the Kremlin".
