  • Today I am speaking with "Two Grumpy Old Men”, Michael Andersen and Brian Bonner who seasoned Ukraine watchers and have teamed up to create a video and Substack blog "Two Grumpy Old Men On Ukraine." They focus on Ukraine, and issues in related parts of the world since both have lived and worked in many countries. They write, run Q&As, create videos, report on the unfolding war, and resurface content from their collective archive, to help frame current events in a historical context.

I’m convinced that this channel would have well over a million subscribers if only the algorithm worked in its favour. So, please like and share guys to ensure more people gain access to it.

      Those notorious algorithms are controlled or manipulated from the Google office in Moscow, so most pro-Ukrainian channels are capped at the minimum number of viewers and subscribers quite purposefully.

    That's exactly right! Disguised as realism! I just sent this to Senator Marco Rubio in the USA >> I am very disappointed that you said about Ukraine "...unfortunately the reality of it is that the way the war in Ukraine is going to end is with a negotiated settlement." That should NEVER be said publicly like that even if you believe it because it is a surrender strategy. Our 13 colonies fought over 75 battles in the Eighth and final year of our war for independence and lost a little over half of them. But they won the critical one at Yorktown. You need to spend energy getting Ukraine a lot of our older weapons and ammunition; they will win their 1991 borders back. Ukraine cannot pay russia in land for the horror that russia has inflicted on it; that would be like parents paying a murderer to tell them where he buried their children! Why would you encourage putin by publicly saying such a thing?

    Why aren't we talking about the agreements that were signed when Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan gave up the nukes parked in their countries by the Soviet Union and only the Kremlin had the codes. Or the Politburo, whatever the leadership structure was then. They were removed in the 90's, I believe 94-96. It was a BFD at the time, but I never hear much about it anymore. Several questions on a prospective "negotiation" where Ukraine is forced to give up (or stop fighting for) territories, such as Luhansk and Donetsk, and maybe most importantly Crimea, in exchange for peace: why would Ukraine simply yield on Crimea, if they have already rendered it useless for the Russians, and driven them out of the black sea? Isn't Crimea, and the access it gives Russia to shipping, and the ability to use it as a "floating aircraft carrier", as one of your guests described it, Russia's Achilles heel? When the Ukrainians are so close to breaking it now, why would they give in?

      My experience of working with Ukrainian refugees for two years straight showed that a lot of them (NOT all) don't speak Ukrainian on the first place, are ethnic russians who happened to permanently reside in Ukraine when the Soviet Union collapsed and automatically received Ukrainian passports but retained imperialistic russian mindset. They will never go back to fight for Ukraine because they secretly support Russia. True patriots of Ukraine have remained and are fighting.

    • @PandemoniumMeltDown
      @PandemoniumMeltDown 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Not everybody is like you. I met many Ukrainians. I also know many fled the war and paid to get out. some were and are russian sympathisers, yet the majority aren't. Many were and still are too young. Many are studying and will soon become much more useful than an infantry sildier could be! Some study to create defense weapons, some medecine...
      But some are just scared and have no training. Some are last survivors of their family. Some have major PTSD and other issues. But some are going to go back, eventually, maybe. Money is also often an issue for expats are now in countries not receptive to the workforce they represent, even if they are established dortors or have more than one master degrees. Plus there is hybrid warfare immigrations in these countries as well, compounding all this into a situation most people in the west aren't welling to wrap their heads around and understand effectively.
      Empathy is important here. Be careful when you feel like voicing such an opinion, it usually does more damage than it helps. It's more important to help expat Ukrainians to get back on their feet than it is to criticise them.

      Maybe it's because I'm a gloomy Finn -- always prepared for the worst possible outcome -- but I think it's important to get a realistic picture of what's going on and not default into complacency or false optimism.
      The problem in the West, in my view, is lack of urgency. You cannot snap out of it by sticking your head in the sand and hoping that the adults will take care of it. I live in a democratic country. My country needs me to be better informed and more engaged, active, and prepared than that.
