I fly to the mines all the time on these planes and love them.
    I'm 196cm (6ft 6) and still have leg room.
Less bumpiness in the cabin when you go through turbulence or just the pilots making great moves to get out of town 😝

I have only ever travelled on an F100 once which was on SR from CPH to GVA in 1989. Believe it or not this small aircraft was configured in a 3 class configuration, FCY. Fixed size 8 seat F cabin 2 X 2 seating, flexible divider 'Euro business' concept with 2 X 3 seating in C and Y. Flying on this type of aircraft would be a similar experience to flying on the BAC-1-11 or DC9 (have travelled a lot on both of these types). I like the 2 X 3 seating. Good for low noise levels but not so good in terns of noise for those unfortunate enough to be seated at the very back of the cabin near to the engines. Seats on this aircraft look comfortable; well padded with good legroom.

The Fokker 100, successful aircraft that crashed the company who made it. Difficult to compete with MD95 / Boeing 717 and many other aircraft in that market segment. As for the roo's paws missing, what's next the head? That's the problem when you keep cutting back at what was once an amazing company.

Excellent video, well researched commentary too. Back in the 80s, I worked on both the F27 Friendship and F28 Fellowship as cabin crew. Both were amazing to work on, very reliable, and popular with passengers and us crew alike, especially the F28.

I did my first solo at Kalgoorlie in VH-KGA, a C172 back in 1979. 40 years later when I once again touched down there after flying my Glasair from Canberra, they'd moved the terminal from over the other side of the field and things looked a lot more schmick. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

nice video. i worked for several years as an groundengineer on the f28/f70/f100 and f50, great planes to work on. Interesting fact is that with speedbrakes extended (complete rear most part of the tail) it was one of the few aircraft being able to fly the steep approach into londen city airport. The two most inboard liftdumpers extend less far to avoid disturbing the airflow into the engines.

The spoilers flip up at the front of the wing at landing.
This is to break aerodynamic lift to help the plane land.
Plane wings overall have an astonishing range of functions.

    • @massmike11

I never got the chance to fly on the F-100 when they were flown in the States by USAir and American, but I did fly on the F-28 when they were in the fleet of Piedmont Airlines. I remember flying from Key West to Miami and the crew was all excited because the founder of the airline, Thomas Henry Davis was on the flight. The cockpit played music through the intercom and the crew had a drink service on this very short flight. I could tell he was much loved by the crew members!

I flew on a number of F-27s while living in the Netherlands and Luxembourg and on one trip chose a different routing so I could experience the F-28. Yes, a nice aircraft that competed well with the similar BAC 1-11. I didn't try out the Fokker 100s, though I did sample the Fokker 50 a couple of times.

Nicely filmed Paul, liked the various wing feature descriptions. I’ve often thought the rear engine design made sense, especially for a quieter ride if up front. I wonder if it’s not as favoured now because of maintenance access? The size of Kalgoorlie Airport surprised me too...that’s the mining industry for sure...

Great video as usual Paul. I didn't realise how the word "Fokker" was pronounced until what you said at 1:51, :-). I always pronounce it as "Fork-ker." But the way you pronounce it is correct in the Dutch language (I checked on pronunciation website called 'Forvo') Anyway, look forward to seeing your next video.

Landing in Perth van sometimes be interesting if plane gets hit with one of the wind shears I think they are called. Been on a A330 that got hit as we touched down. Whole plane felt like it went side ways. So many people were screaming. Was pretty scary if I'm honest.

    Hi Paul.
That info you gave early in the video re the numbers painted on the wings was really cool.
I found myself automatically looking as the flaps were lowered to 42degrees on the approach into Perth, just a second or two before you announced that it was happening 😂
As a child in the 60's, I recall adds for either TAA or Ansett flying " Fokker Friendships", I am guessing that this Fokker-100 is a "newer" version of one of those, I never flew back then , so I don't recall much else.
My other question, the good ol' Mad Dog 80. It also has its engines on the rear of the fuselage. Do you think the Fokker is quieter ( especially in the rear),than the Mad Dog?
    Also which is bigger ?

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks Heather! I believe that the Friendship was the turboprop one (F27) while the jet was called the F28 Fellowship. And this is the upgraded version of the F27 Fellowship.
Yeah I'm not sure tbh. It might be a little smaller than the 717.

A few years ago i booked a "redEdeal" on one of these... aka: The cheapest Qantas ticket... and as they do, they sent me the "you can pre-check-in now" message the night before. To my surprise, seat 1E was available to select... which i did. So I get there the next day to find that the front row, (and second row too, i think,) was actually first class, with both 1B and 1D being dedicated drink tray seats... and the passengers in 1A and 1C were clearly being waited on like First Class... and then there was me.... in the window seat... with more leg room than i could use... seriously, i tried to touch the wall panel in front of me with outstretched legs... couldn't. (Granted, i am only 5'6"... but still.) And to top it all off, we had the Americans in town for military exercises, (Rockhampton,) and they had the C5 parked right out my window. Aside from the two seats in the cockpit, i legit had the best seat that day... and paid less than anyone.... For the win 👍
