She was the most underrated female vocalist ever.... Amazing performance. A legend in my book.
The vocal on the original song is one of the best ever. It can go toe to toe with whitney or mariah. The problem is Lisa didn't have any more hit songs. For such an amazing voice, I wish she had at least one more great song.
The Rolling Stones had her on retainer. They paid her handsomely!
@@moltenpros ..She. wanted. a. career. Not. Hits. And. Fame. She has been working at what she loves since she came on the scene. That in itself is a success! Stop diminishing people's success by Hollywood superficial measurements.
No Doubt.. Vastly Underated.. Facts.
@@septemberjanuary4636 You don't know her so you don't know what she wants. Every star wants hit songs because that is how they make money to feed their family and how they make their legacy. If it wasn't for that one hit song nobody would know about her. I actually love this song and it's in my all time top 10 R&B song. The performance at the apolo is one of the greatest ever. I have the song and video in my home collection and play it often so I have supported her more than most people. I just wish she made more hit songs and I am sure she also wished she made more hit songs.
She sounds so amazing and reminds mr of Phyllis Hyman in her later years. Lisa’s tone is much richer and depoer now. Well preserved voice. I love how she jazzed this up!
Yep and Chaka Khan too 🥰
Damn, she sound better if that possible. Love❤
I had the delight to see Ms. Hyman at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA approximately 6 mos before she passed. She had the voice of an angel.
She sounds nothing like hyman stop it
@@anthonytaylor7928 I didn’t say she sounded like Phyllis. Learn to read and comprehend. I said she reminds me of Phyllis in her later years meaning aesthetically. The hat and attire.
If you don't have your face turned up listening to this, 😲🥺🥹 then you don't know music! ❤
Yessss Lisa..sang!
I concur, like seriously though , I shit my eyes tight like doctor was about to give me a shot, THE WHOLE TIME
I was definitely watching with a tore up face all 3 times
I'm just ugly with my face baby😂😂. Let me tell something here Damn😂😂❤
@TruthTalker Everyone has their own beauty!
Thirty two years later , Lisa still rocks this song. So underrated.
🌬📢 💨 🎙
Luther knew what Gem he had in having her on vocals/background
That whole crew was FASCINATING with the TRUEST OF TALENT EVER‼️🏆🏆🏆🏆‼️💜
That’s because he was a legendary background vocalist like them in his early days …
Was there any doubt?
My thoughts exactly. ❤
She was touring with Prince before his death
She’s a technician with her voice! She looks and sounds beautiful, little different vocal but still as beautiful
Very different vocals!
I must find that documentary about background singers.
@@msthang536620 FEET FROM STARDOM.
Nothing like live, original track great but this has way more feeling she’s a grown ass woman she’s lived so the vocals would’ve matured and her tone would naturally be heavier than 30 years ago.
@@msthang5366It's called "20 Feet From Stardom" & it is real good 🎶
She still sounds amazing without the whistle register. She turned this song into soulful jazz. I love her.
She never sang that in whistle that was head voice on the original she can sing very high in head voice
@@shabrethajennings7291 b s She sang in whistle register. .I said what I said.
@@marvintheatreYou said it, but it was incorrect. She sang above D6 in her head voice (flageolet) and those notes are “whistle notes” but she did not in fact use the whistle register to produce them. We know this in part because her notes from D6-G6 were connected to the rest of her voice and flageolet rarely goes above G6 (A6 in extremely rare instances) whereas whistle register can go up into the 8th octave for some singers.
Lisa Fischer is so underrated! I had this song on a single cassette, yes, I said cassette. I must have played it a thousand times. Her voice is still so AMAZING!! I got goosebumps!
I listen to the original at least twice
Same
played my cassette til it popped!😂
@@katkellz7398 Respect!😁
Boy oh boy!!! Her voice has aged like fine wine!! When I say her pipes are still strong and flawless. She is blessed
We ar blessed to experience her talent.
Baby that is not her she was white the real Lisa
@@TeeFearlessthinking of lisa stanfield lol
Lisa was my teenage crush- Lovely vocals
true, she still has the power, technic, tone etc great vocalist!
I jumped out of bed to give her a standing ovation!!!
😂❤
Lol😅😅😅
Okay! 😂 🙌🏾
Hahaha picturing that cracked me up, but I know that's right! She still sounds flawless ❤
Im saying ... 👏👏👏👏👏
One of the best vocalists to ever exist! This woman knows her voice and she knows how it’s changed over the years so adjusts to that. A masterclass!
Brilliantly said!
And she done it so perfectly.. perfection ❤❤
This should be released now. It’s better than anything else on the radio. Let the great singing be put forward again.❤🎉
Amen. There is no one in modern popular music of any genre that can remotely sing at her level.
This woman is a technical vocal beast. I love the original version but this here was a treat of all treats. I really enjoyed it and Lisa does no wrong!!!
I never paid attention to what this song meant because I was so taken away by her voice, like manna from heaven. But, with this interpretation I get it. Lovely, love her.🙏🏿💯💕
Me too❤
When this song came out it went so hard and still does ! She did that!
I LOVE IT
One of the most underrated great singers! TWENTY FEET FROM STARDOM!
The Background Singers , and Band for Lisa Fisher is Awesome 👏🏽❤️👏🏽❤️👏🏽❤️💃🏾❤️💃🏾❤️
Sang Lisa! “A fool for love is a fool for pain”.
Best line
@@robynrob9471 that hook line says it all.
Yes it does…
The original recording is a masterpiece. Lisa is pitch perfect with every word, skillfully executed to coincide with the precise emotion she wants to convey with every note. Nothing is left to chance. Lisa is in complete control the entire way through. She is in total command of her instrument like a virtuoso to a Stradivarius. The hair on the back of your neck stands up because you're bewitched by something extraordinary. It took Patti LaBelle a lifetime to achieve her first Grammy but Lisa was there to share it with her on account of the brilliance of her performance in this song from her debut album. 'How Can I Ease the Pain' is absolute perfection. Perfection.
Yes the original is epic!! I can never play it just once.
Can’t agree with you more. Lisa is a phenomenal talent. Seen her perform while on tour with Luther Vandross many times. The power of her voice is unbelievable
Totally agree.
One of my favorite records that has remained on my playlist for a number of years since my childhood
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ beautifully said. Much respect
Im dreading listening to this song. This was my favorite song still is til a man hurt me down to my soul. She was singing what I was going through.❤ Its bittersweet. I'll never forget those long train rides seeing my reflection crying. I now know I'm better by myself.
I feel ya! I kept passing the video up until I couldn’t any longer. It took me right back to the place, the day, the season, the Me and Him at the time…sighhhhh❤️🙏🏿
I went crazy! Lisa Fischer still beautiful, classy, wonderful singer. So graceful.
Lisa initially sang back-up for Luther Vandross. Hello? L-u-t-h-er. I loved them both. So when her solo project was released, I made a b-line to the record store and *knew* my mind would be blown. It was. 🎶 👑 🖤
I remember that well..those were the days of sensational vocalists…OKAYYY!!
Girl! Then went and won a Grammy and went back to Luther. Sis said “yall can be the star, let me get back here and sing my part”.
@@karsongiovanni4690 Yes indeed Sis. She was phenomenal wearing both hats. What a powerhouse of a voice, performer, and song interpreter. 👑
She also sang background and toured with Tina Turner.
Also mick jagger and Tina turner
When this song was released I was a silly kid and didn't have the depth of experience to appreciate the lyrics or Lisa's amazing vocals. 30 + years later of living makes this a brand new song to me.
You better say that!👏🏾👏🏾
Ironically I thought about her about a month ago and started playing this song and had the same realization now as an experienced adult it hit TOTALLY different. Such a beautifully sad song. She is so talented and underrated ❤
I was 13 (45) now when this came out & have always loved it❤
I've been listening to a lot of thar old music and realizing what I missed. I get teary eyed thinking of how beautiful these people could sing . We don't very many that sing like this anymore.
@@revenge4468 you’re right unfortunately. Who would’ve thought it could come to an end 😞
Facts😊
I have not heard this song in years and yet I feel like I was hearing it for the very first time.
Absolutely Outstanding!!!!!
Wow... what happened to music. So thankful to have witnessed 70's, 80's and 90's true music. True talent. One Love.
Music industry, you lost.
Fascinating . She was fully clothed, stood still and Sang. Yet I remained entertained and enjoyed it immensely
Many of the popular singers today look like skanks on the stage
I didn't think her clothing was no other choice TBH
@@dontreldontrel416huh? Your comment makes no sense to me.
@@dontreldontrel416like she's LITERALLY an older woman now, she'd look a mess 😂😂😂, idk why OP made the jab about clothes. I thought we weren't judging women on their clothing choices anymore
@@domotemujin7780 lol
Holy smokes she still sings like an angel
Thee Lisa Fisher and Narmada Michael Walden on one stage! It doesn’t get any better than this.❤❤
laawd them 90s was a great time to be alive...My GAWD..
she's straight giving me goosebumps with her vocal styling. This is all I wanted. Just a little touch of Lisa's talent. I couldnt get into the super duper mellow version of this song. But this right here is beautiful.
❤❤❤
She has probably lived thru what she is singing....Storytelling.
Experience is the best Teacher...for sho ❤️🔥🙏🏽❣️
The original is what i love but this live version is hitting!!!
How many times have she sang it??? U better have no choice but to get better....
@@dontreldontrel416 have you watched any of the clips of her singing this in the last ten or so years?? She doesnt sing it anywhere near the way she use to. Its like some lightweight, airy, floaty, really slowed down version of the song. We can easily say she changed it up because she's older and doesnt have the vocal power that she had in her younger days but I dont think thats why. This is the closest I've heard her sing this song to the original version.
In a world of her own, the best at her craft. She's an amazing vocalist.
What can I say? Lisa is a vocal beast. She's fearless on the mic. A true song stylist.
This is truly vocal acrobatics 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I didn’t blink one time, mouth open 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 still running circles around 90% of EVERYBODY in the game. I would love to hear her and Chante Moore do a song.
It's more like @L.I.S.A.F.I.S.C.H.E.R. is STILL running circles around everybody else, 100%.
Still got those breathtaking vocals🔥🔥🔥
no she doesn't but her voice is still beautiful. She can't hit the high notes like she did in the past.
@@yakzivz1104that’s your opinion so what now?
@@yakzivz1104 I'm aware she can't hit the high notes, but her new arrangement is still beautiful❤
@@yakzivz1104 You mean she can't hit the highest notes. She hit and sustained a full-bodied G5 in this performance and has done so much more in her recent shows with Grand Baton with glaring consistency. Most normies just don't understand what a rare feat this is.
@@foreighteen7797 the bottom line is that she does not sound the same as she did when she was in her 20's; however, she will always be an incredible singer. Stop taking my comments as an attack on her because I am actually a fan of hers
Narada Michael Walden is one of the greatest songwriters ever. I love his work so much!! ❤ He inspired me to become a songwriter. His music is beautiful and timeless! Incomparable! Xoxo xoxo ❤️
Did he write this
@@cecegiles7286: It was co-written by Lisa Fischer and Narada Michael Walden; also,
he produced it. They both also co-wrote her hit, "Save Me," which was a HUGE dance
floor hit.
She won a Grammy for best vocalist while singing back up for Luther van-dross she is a vocal phoenix she is amazing sang Lisa !!!!!
How many of y’all was waiting for that original high note? She’s still 🔥 tho omg what a vocal instrument 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
This comment should have more 👍🏽
Oh my, my, my! She's still a vocal surgeon. Such precision, power, emotion, soul. I feel every word floating from her mouth into the atmosphere. Wow. 💜💜💜
🗣️SING THE SONG!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 She looks & sounds fabulous!
Ms. Lisa Fischer,
Thank you for coming back to grace us once again.
Seeing and listening to you have been a sight for sore eyes and for sore ears !
What a treat it has been to watch you perform.
You are like a
Cordial Cherry to me !
May God continue to bless you.❤
This sounds and looks very personal for her (and for me), gave me chills. SHE SOUNDS AMAZING!!!
Lisa Fisher still has that beautiful!! voice. I love!! her voice. She still looks great!!! vocals are still on point. Those high notes and runs amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! God bless her. Excellent!!! performance.
She still has it. She did not shy away from the high notes and hard parts of that song!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Yes she did .. she didn’t hit some notes because she can’t 😢especially the whistle notes
@@torturingsouls9635 "Especially the whistle notes"? Those are the only notes she did not hit. And those notes happen to be the least important ones in this song. Whistle notes are used for effect and don't hold any lyrical significance. As for the important parts, she hit virtually everything, and even sustained the mixed/belted G5 in the original.
In some of her recent renditions of the same song, she ascended to a mixed A5 for effect.
When she sang "Feeling Good" twice with Ledisi in 2019, she sustained a full-bodied Bb5 with no visible effort in both performances. Name one other female singer over 60 who has that much freedom and consistency in her upper belting/mix. I seriously can't think of anyone except Patti LaBelle (and maybe Karen Clark Sheard), and I know a ton of veteran singers with well-preserved voices.
Also often ignored is how much she gained in the bottom part of her range. She can bring her chest voice down to a baritonal A2 with strength, fullness, and consistency, which is difficult even for some men.
She fucked up dawg ok admit it it’s ok to not sound as good as you once did shit look at Mariah and other singers ITS OK including Lauryn Hill so shut up
What a pleasant surprise to see Ms Fischer performing a live set! Clearly the lady's vocals haven't lost a thing, that range is still awesome.
WOW she STILL sounds GOOD......EVEN BETTER!!!!! Beautiful Beautiful VOICE!!!!!!!
I was fortunate to see Lisa in concert with Luther Vandross. I have always loved her music and her voice. She’s an amazing talent.
I saw her concert with Luther Vandross too.
She's still got it!Forever a fan!!!🎤🎤🎤🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️❤️
I saw her live back in the day when she was touring with Luther Vandross. To this day it's still one of the best concerts I've been too.
She is such a gifted singer, and oh my she is giving me remnants of Ms. Phyllis Hyman! Another awesome singer!
Never lost that beautiful voice. Blessed to be able to have grown up in that era of music
I love how her interpretation of this songs has evolved with her over the years
Whoooo Chile! She still sounds so freaking Good! 👏 such a talent, we love you ❤ Lisa! Always have, always will!

Ms. Fisher that voice, that voice, that gotdamn voice girl. Flawless.
Lisa is an INCREDIBLE SINGER!!!!!! She has been ready to emerge from the background for a while!!! The band is amazing as well! Narada Micheal Walden is a very skilled and accomplished musician who doesn't get enough mention along with the other great and pioneering drummers and it's cool to see him still wielding the sticks!
Narada is unsung for sure! Love Lisa!
Lisa has been extraordinary no matter where she’s placed and been emerged from the background ever since hitting the incredible A Night in Tunisia for Chaka Khan back in the 80’s when she first started touring.
Narada is Pure OG ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Talk about "Divine Emotions" (pun intended) 🤟🏾❤👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Hunh? She has BEEN out of the background! TF?!
I can see me listening to this version on the quiet storm. On a long drive drive late at night
I found out about Lisa in the documentary film "20 Feet From Stardom". Since then I've heard her in a lot of presentations and recordings and I must say that that she is, without a doubt, the best female singer I've ever listened to. It's not only the voice but the performance. This woman is a force of nature.
Thank you Lisa! Thank you Narada Michael Walden Foundation! 🫶🏽
i love the vocal skill and choices here. Its a fresh current update that showcases the growth and depth of the artist all the while maintaining the integrity of the song. I also love the look and the band and singers! Had me singing with the background. Bravo Lisa! Thank you Narada!

Ooh. Wonder if there are reruns of the Alan Thicke show on TH-cam.

I saw Lisa while she was a background vocalist for Luther and she performed this tune ,it was more close to the recorded version and she killed it,in later years I got to see her with the Stones and she was excellent especially on Gimme Shelter, she’s still holding it down and far from underrated, one of the greatest background vocalist ever along with Cissy Houston,Tawatha Agee to name a few
