would personally pick both the newest adrianne lenker album and the new big thief album. The songwriting and lyricism just feel so organic, alive and almost intertwined with nature in a way and i just love them so much
The music-in-place that first comes to mind is two albums I would listen to while people-watching in the Raspail station of the Paris Metro. One side of the cassette was Brian Eno's Music for Airports; the other side The Jazz Butcher's Fishcoteque. I can still smell the station and hear the people and the trains sliding and wiling through the music. Wonderful selections and topic. Thank you!
Bon Iver fan here! Very nice cover of the themes of For Emma, Forever Ago. You've also introduced me to some new beautiful sounding albums I'll have to check out. Very cool stuff you do, and I loved your hat too!
Such a nice video. I love Nick Drake. Great compilation of music here Stella. Also, Further by Flying Saucer Attack is a great pastoral album. I think you would find the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. a beautiful place.
Liege And Leaf from Fairport Convention gives me the feeling of merry old England. I've never even been to England but I get an Excalibur (The Nigel Terry early 80's film) vibe from the album. 'Come All Ye' is one of my favorite opening tracks. And you can't beat Sandy Denny's vocals.
I appreciate how this list is not purely about music that emphasizes nature in its lyrics, but rather in its cultural response ( or in William Tyler's words, "cultural geography") to the natural environment of its creation. It's certainly giving me a lot to think about 💖
Hey Stella, I know this video is almost 10 months old, but it's my favorite, as I also have ahouse in nature/forest/mountains where I do my creative work. And like Bon Iver, I recently had a "bear experience" - unfortunately, my neighbor's dog was mauled.:( I've been a fan of Nick Drake a long time...we tried to bring his story to the screen over 10 yrs ago, and an A-list actor was attached to play Nick, but the studios ultimately passed on this film due to Nick's tragic ending, which I had considered a crucial part of the script/treatment. What a cute cap you're wearing in this video - stylish! BTW - I've been enjoying the World Cup - exciting matches :)
