If you're still looking for new Slowcore bands, Shallowater is a great one. They're kind of like Red House Painters in that their sound is significantly influenced by folk/country
Tall dwarfs' three songs ep is sooo freaking good
No one acts like that.
You're too naive to know what Siouxsie is really about. Too young and stupid. The only song that warrantied a number was number 1. The rest is rubbish. Listen to the first album the Scream. Best debut album ever
I love the Cocteau Twins too and they helped me appreciate opera.
Funny Deer hunter is on Kranky. They fit with Kranky but I don't consider them a Kranky band. They are more their own brand of Georgia based drone. Probably the last great indie band to come out of a long line of great Atlanta area bands. You should do a segment on that scene(which of course includes REM). I do love Windy and Carl Depths and Bowery Electric. I will have to dive a bit deeper into Kranky. I had a friend who was really into them during the pre Deer hunter days. I never asked Bradford if he listened to Kranky. We used to talk about MBV a lot. Also funny last time I saw him I went up to him and he didn't remember from my club days we chatted after shows and when he got me back stage to Stereolab. He thought I was some random fan. I'm glad he found a global audience however and a good level of notoriety
coming up roses is my personal fave
Nice video! What's the song at 5:50?
Great video👏
This is such a funny take on people who can't find the joy in sharing appreciation for the same thing because they try to possess the exclusive rights to liking something that is rare, obscure, or under appreciated.
I uploaded a couple Bailterspace tunes many years ago. Great stuff. How cool are you!
God, I love Dirty Three.
I’d love to hear her cover lounge revival or space age pop.
a ton of research here - wow
That was my younger days 80s music .my favorite was the great commandments by camouflage
I know many might disagree, but I think “needle in the hay” is some of his best work. It has that classic melancholy sound that smith is known for but the intense and raw sound of the guitar really adds a lot. But great list.

BETWEEN THE BARS WHERE?!!?!?
Daniel lanois and Brian Eno are really influential too. Two "rock" producers who basically went past rock. They are definitely more ambient but I think they are both worth mentioning.
Minami Deutsch, saw them in Austin TX. They were incredible
STELLAAAAAAAAA, WE MISS YOU SO MUCH! How can we discover great bands without your lists?
What you failed to mention what killed off new wave in 85 was the LA Glam Metal scene from 83-91. Starting with Motley Crue, Van Halen, Quiet Riot, Bon Jovi all the way to Mr. Big, Warrant, Extreme, and all the copy cat bands at the time who mainly wrote songs about sex & partying. Until Seattle Grunge killed it dead. But MTV also started to give the cold shoulder to most of the new wave acts they started the channel with. Goth, Indie, Shoegaze, and a few synth pop acts now had “Alternative” music as the new umbrella for both the US & UK markets. This got fractured somewhat as Chicago House music & Detroit techno as well as Industrial music moved on from anything that sounded new wave. You didn’t have the internet promoting any of these new styles. It all was word of mouth until REM, Sonic Youth, and some other bands had signed to Majors just at the end of the 80’s.
Thank you for the deep dive, she understood the assignment! 🙂↔️
This is awesome!! An amazing, informative and original account of some fantastic music created in a exciting time. I'm 63, was 18 in '79, and saw many of these bands live in those days, usually in scruffy, edgy basement-like bars with holes in the walls and dark energy. Bullseye!
I love Between The Bars, Miss Misery, Angeles, Waltz, Say Yes, and Needle in the Hay. 👍
best mathrock band is Invalids imo, they’re perfect
I was about to ask myself "Why did you include Bossanova, but not Doolittle here?", but then I remembered it was released in the 80s. It's crazy to see how much the Pixies defined the sound of a lot of bands. Great list, Stella!!
😂 what no f%#@&£ Slowdive. I loved that list, good job Stella ⭐️
Thank you!! 😁
"Dead Can Dance" in the D category ?
yes pitseleh is so top 10 worthy
So funny Stella lol.
ahahaha
Love a lot of these bands anyway. Kind of tranquil and hazy.
exactly~!!
Post-rock to me just sounds like downtempo or ambient electronica or even dream pop, shoegaze stuff.
MISTRESS by Red House Painters is very Dreamy.... American Music Club and Spain must be here in this video... I don't like too much all this depressive stuff never more, but I still believing it is very nice compositions... but so so so depressend... I prefer more positive music
very good! what about KRAAN?
What is Stella’s reaction to the Mark Kozolek allegations.
NDW was awesome. In 82, I learned the sound of NDW while staying with some of my family in Germany..
Marry me
Speed trials. Rose parade.
I think Pere Ubu belong on the list of precursors . th-cam.com/video/MdIi6vSG9aY/w-d-xo.html
Wow, amazing video, it encompass the basics and a bit more, I was very much into post rock around 10 years ago and you have reminded me of a lot of music I used to listen. Also I have started to dig the massive Stereolab discography this year and it is amazing! I came across your video randomly, but surely will check the one on Krautrock and the others, thanks a lot! 🙌
Thanks for your comment, glad you've found your way~! Hope you enjoy :)
Please check Vertical Patrols out of San Diego, CA.
Nice job Stella. Durutti Column, in my humble opinion, are hugely underrated and not championed enough as excellent musicians who write great music. I am glad that you gave them an honorable mention in this well researched video.
Couldn't agree more!
"Between the bars" not being here is a crime.
You forgot Horse Jumper of Love. One of my favorite bands. :)
What's the song used to intro "No New York" Compilation?
Great we you but where are you from
You're too young to know this much about New Wave! Good job.
The second british invasion was way better than the first so many great bands
Great video!
Thanks!
