Revisit this in a year or two. Whether you like it or not, people buying to collect or to hopefully make money at a later date make up a large amount of purchases. They also drive prices so an LGS can make money from single card sales. In addition, it allows players a trade market to get cards they want. The game alone will not generate enough money to make it worthwhile to invest into. That is doubly true for Disney who relies a ton on collectors and nostalgia. The whole thing is an eco system. All parts have to be there. No TCG in existence is flourishing with no collectability. Good luck though. I hope Lorcana makes it as the cards look pretty fun.
@@NOLA-vv3sz Having a certain level of collectibility and value in single cards is definetly part of the ecosystem but demanding to generate a certain interest on sealed product and treating the game like an investment vehicle shouldnt be the goal of the game designers. Let the market evolve naturally and adjust future print runs if needed.

But even Rudy seems to not remember that the "expensive" cards back in the day were MAYBE $100. Boxes were always going on sale. It was normal. The irony in this is that Lorcan has sold on Amazon since First Chapter. The TCG is in a healthy space, the collectability aspect is in a super healthy spot, the player bases are growing and major events are getting more attendees, even selling out in record times. The TCG isn't in a space to push a "Pump and Dump" agenda. Sure, you can make a lot of money in the hobby if done correctly, but it's not the determining factor on Lorcana's success. Lorcana is in a great place for healthy growth, and current players, collectors, and investors would agree. Even the new upcoming set has a lot of well done advertising, hype building, and slow releases to keep people excited. Lorcana hasn't even released to most international locations, use China as one example. It has tons of room for growth being only a year old TCG. Determining it's success after one look at Amazon, release FOMO as reference, and consolidating prices into a healthy range doesn't check out all that well. I understand the critiques of Lorcana/Ravensburger, but myself and most people in Lorcana probably wouldn't agree with this video. Some points check out, but small issues can be fixes/resolved in time.

I will say its clear most people dont know how Amazon's business works. Eventhough its on the same store front, theres a big difference between the inventory Amazon sold thry receieved from Ravensburger, and the inventory being sold now by an LGS chain that overbought. Just my two cents: I would personally start securing a position in the second set (Rise of the Floodborn) pretty soon. It's trending up, and if you know anything about the game itself, there are quite a few playable staples in that set that keep getting better with each release.
As a lorcana player i can see how from the outside these look like bad signs but ive been saying this shit has been overpriced for a while. 24 packs per box, 12 cards per pack and the boxes are 129.99 "msrp". I think its just finding its true price point
Boxes are 160-170 the MSRP set by Ravensburger is 143, which was already to low for an lgs to give a flying f about. 129 the product becomes pointless to carry. Ravensburger needs to reduce their cost price to stores to around 50 so stores can sell around 100 but otherwise expect Lorcana to die, and I say this as both a store owner and lover of the game.

While I can no longer find it listed on Amazon as of today (guess it sold out already), maybe someone else has a screen cap showing the seller? Very similar to Pokemon in terms of how the product comes out and the price that LGS sell it. Evolving Skies and Brilliant stars were both available for $100 in April of 2022. Would I like RB to lower print runs? Yes, but the product also needs to be widely available in order to grow right now.
It's a dump because it's being sold below distributor price. It was essentially for $88 after the discount on Amazon. It's a dump because it not only below distributor price, but because what it causes other sellers to have to sell it at. The new floor is lower, and while Pokemon might also run into this issue, they are A. also criticized about it and B. Able to recover from it due to the size of the Pokemon market. Widely available product is good, but it must maintain some value to stores as well so that they can continue justifying selling it. If you can get it at a lower price from Amazon, and you can't compete, you don't stock it, you dont stock it and suddenly there is a glut of product and everything including singles start going down with it.
Unless they expect an uptick in demand vs. the previously released sets, I think cutting back the supply a bit could be helpful at this point. Not to the original lauch of TFC, but make it a little harder to come by and try to keep people seeking it out. These last few sets are still out there and prices have dropped into the 120's or lower. Now what they really need is to somehow make a banger set with something or somethings that people are really excited about to drive demand and excitement back into searching out the product. I think people mostly found the recent sets underwhelming and they weren't drawn to keep buying it because there was nothing worth getting. Also, with making items and locations as Enchanteds it has hurt the happiness of hitting one as those aren't popular compared to characters, so they should go back to only characters as Enchanteds.
LGSs have their advantage in early release. You can get it up to 2+ weeks early by picking up at your LGS. Into the Inklands isn't even the current set, it's the previous set (3) as we're halfway to Set 5. Maybe I'm spoiled in San Diego, but our Lorcana League Nights sell out within minutes every week at full capacity. It's a thriving community because cards are accessible, and chase cards are attainable (but still not "cheap"). Throw in the lottery card Enchanteds, and you have a recipe for both reasonable singles prices AND people wanting sealed product. Win-win for players.
It's good for players, collectors, and investors who are reasonable. It doesn't work for people like Rudy, because they can't buy hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of product and immediately flip it for millions.

The reason he continues to support MTG is because there is a much larger market for it than Lorcana. Lorcana, Metazoo, Flesh and Blood, One Piece, hell even Sorcery are all playing by different rules than Magic and Pokemon are.

Those boxes went into the $90 range. with a “msrp” of $144. They aren’t low any more! Or when evolutions was printed to oblivion, you could t give it away. I just don’t think there is anything to worry about at all when something gets printed to insanity and even dumped for a lower price. This is normal. Disney is releasing new sets at a rate similar to pokemon. Every few months. Same exact scenario. Why is this one a “bad management” move? Because it’s happening so early on with the lorcana name? Some sets will get printed a ton, some less. Some will be more popular, some less. Time will shape and age each sets position and place. First chapter is still strong at $200-$220. That’s $80 over MSRP.

Eh, its not as bad as Magic amazon dumps imo. Inklands isnt current set, theres pretty good LGS support from Ravensburg including high-value promo cards and earlier releases. I think the game is still healthy, if a bit imbalanced towards two color sets, and still needs a bit of work, but thats why Im waiting to see Set 5, 6, and if theres any rotation in play cards. Id rather have the first few sets healthily available and cheap, than limited and expensive. The first few sets are the "first hit" once you get your consumer hooked on your cardboard crack, then maybe roll back the production rates. Sort of like the route Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh went. Hell Magic re-printed Alpha twice in Beta and Unlimited. The legs of Lorcana will be decided I think in the next few sets and balancing. Not everyone likes hype-agro or discard, and right now those are the main two meta. Also, there are still high-cost cards in all 4 sets, even excluding Enchanteds. Not everything from ABU was immedietely expensive, some took years or decades to become more than 5 dollar cards for just being in the first printings. Also, you endorsed MetaZoo, so your track record for backing new tcgs isnt stellar.

I personally think that Inklands is a solid set. Truth is, it's a fun game! It's a lot more fun to play with people than magic. It's got a lot more broad, cultural appeal than magic. Rudy was wrong on Metazoo... so much so he scrubbed his channel so people wouldn't see it. When it comes to games other than Magic, take what he says with a handful of salt.

Depending on what happens with reprint plans in the coming months, and what they decide to do just before the World Champs in Orlando, Set 1 boxes could easily start churning up to $300, so I'd get in now for that set especially.
theres a sickening amount of Lorcana at my local jumbo taco box store. usually I like seeing the shelves full but the sheer volume of beat up packs and such was a poor look.

Lorcana suffers from the lack of a collector base due to the lack of flashy cards...and it goes back to the mistake of making their alt-arts texture free in a texture-ized card world and their reverse foils being the simplest possible, cold. Their goal of rivaling Pokemon, or even One Piece has seemingly failed, and I just don't see a 10-year path forward without a larger collector base.
Ask Magic players, I think they'd rather have cold foils rather than pringled regular foils. And as much as Magic gets rightly hammered for card quality, Lorcana is the worst. I think the mistake they made was to make items and locations Enchanted. Maybe locations for the intro set for those, but the Characters is what people want in full art foil, the other stuff is just a feel bad for hitting a case hit.

Thank you for putting this out there. I smelled it back in set 2 and didn’t even put a preorder in for Inklands. Distro tried to send me a ton for prerelease but I only took like 3 or 4 cases. Did the same for set 4 but only took 8 boxes of it and that was too much.

Widely available product is good, but it must maintain some value to stores as well so that they can continue justifying selling it. If you can get it at a lower price from Amazon, and you can't compete, you don't stock it, you dont stock it and suddenly there is a glut of product and everything including singles start going down with it.

Unless they expect an uptick in demand vs. the previously released sets, I think cutting back the supply a bit could be helpful at this point. Not to the original lauch of TFC, but make it a little harder to come by and try to keep people seeking it out. These last few sets are still out there and prices have dropped into the 120's or lower. Now what they really need is to somehow make a banger set with something or somethings that people are really excited about to drive demand and excitement back into searching out the product. I think people mostly found the recent sets underwhelming and they weren't drawn to keep buying it because there was nothing worth getting. Also, with making items and locations as Enchanteds it has hurt the happiness of hitting one as those aren't popular compared to characters, so they should go back to only characters as Enchanteds.

As of right now for me, Inkland booster boxes won’t even come up on Amazon.., only floodborn and Ursula.

LGSs have their advantage in early release. You can get it up to 2+ weeks early by picking up at your LGS.
Into the Inklands isn't even the current set, it's the previous set (3) as we're halfway to Set 5.
Maybe I'm spoiled in San Diego, but our Lorcana League Nights sell out within minutes every week at full capacity. It's a thriving community because cards are accessible, and chase cards are attainable (but still not "cheap"). Throw in the lottery card Enchanteds, and you have a recipe for both reasonable singles prices AND people wanting sealed product. Win-win for players.
It's good for players, collectors, and investors who are reasonable. It doesn't work for people like Rudy, because they can't buy hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of product and immediately flip it for millions.

Every time Rudy wants to complain about a company ruining their game, it has to make you question why he still wants to buy, support, and sell MTG when they have been doing the same nonsense he says is bad for 5-10 years easy and are still doing it right now. But I guess it's not bad for Hasbro to do it. Make sure you keep buying MTG Collectors cause they are amazing.

He did not abandon Flesh and Blood, he was kicked out by Legend Stories Studios. He got bamboozled by MetaZoo. The reason he continues to support MTG is because there is a much larger market for it than Lorcana. Lorcana, Metazoo, Flesh and Blood, One Piece, hell even Sorcery are all playing by different rules than Magic and Pokemon are.

Eh, its not as bad as Magic amazon dumps imo. Inklands isnt current set, theres pretty good LGS support from Ravensburg including high-value promo cards and earlier releases. I think the game is still healthy, if a bit imbalanced towards two color sets, and still needs a bit of work, but thats why Im waiting to see Set 5, 6, and if theres any rotation in play cards.
Id rather have the first few sets healthily available and cheap, than limited and expensive. The first few sets are the "first hit" once you get your consumer hooked on your cardboard crack, then maybe roll back the production rates. Sort of like the route Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh went. Hell Magic re-printed Alpha twice in Beta and Unlimited.
The legs of Lorcana will be decided I think in the next few sets and balancing. Not everyone likes hype-agro or discard, and right now those are the main two meta. Also, there are still high-cost cards in all 4 sets, even excluding Enchanteds. Not everything from ABU was immedietely expensive, some took years or decades to become more than 5 dollar cards for just being in the first printings.
Also, you endorsed MetaZoo, so your track record for backing new tcgs isnt stellar.

It's amazing that you can open with MTG doing this exact same thing with too much product, which did NOT kill the brand and the brand continues to do well... but then you turn around and say that this will kill Lorcana.
Loracana doesn't have a large stable fan base. The game is barely a year old. Dumping loracana can be an extremely bad move. Only time will tell
It is like people don’t listen. He said MTG did it and required a course correct to only now start building things back up. He said the same thing about Lorcana but pointed out Lorcana would also have to course correct to repair damage. The difference is Lorcana id going this route extremely early in its life. Before the stable base is there. FaB almost killed their brand doing it. We shall see what Ravensburger does.
@@NOLA-vv3sz This game has the Disney IP behind it, and that drives a metric crap-ton of interest. Lorcana has a built-in base of people who want to buy it because of that IP. That counter-veiling force is much stronger, in my opinion, than one set being over printed and sold off.
This idea that one set sold at a basement price sets the value of all the other boxes lower is just... nonsense. Over-printing happens, duds come out... I personally think that Inklands is a solid set.
Truth is, it's a fun game! It's a lot more fun to play with people than magic. It's got a lot more broad, cultural appeal than magic. Rudy was wrong on Metazoo... so much so he scrubbed his channel so people wouldn't see it. When it comes to games other than Magic, take what he says with a handful of salt.

It also showed up around the time that every card game was getting hyped to the moon and back and people were locked inside. It isn't a bad game. Depending on what happens with reprint plans in the coming months, and what they decide to do just before the World Champs in Orlando, Set 1 boxes could easily start churning up to $300, so I'd get in now for that set especially.

theres a sickening amount of Lorcana at my local jumbo taco box store. usually I like seeing the shelves full but the sheer volume of beat up packs and such was a poor look.
They’ll be fine. Multiple enchanteds worth over $100 each set. Enough legendaries, super rares and rares to add some value. Arguably not a bad time to get in if you want to do singles
Did you even listen to the video or was your head up your ass while it was playing? Look what the Amazon dumbs did to Magic the Gathering and they have been around for 30 years and have a ridiculous number of sets, how long has Lorcana been around for and what set are they on? 4, only 4
Lorcana suffers from the lack of a collector base due to the lack of flashy cards...and it goes back to the mistake of making their alt-arts texture free in a texture-ized card world and their reverse foils being the simplest possible, cold. Their goal of rivaling Pokemon, or even One Piece has seemingly failed, and I just don't see a 10-year path forward without a larger collector base.
Speak for yourself man, Lorcana enchanteds make most Pokemon Alt Art's look mid.
Ask Magic players, I think they'd rather have cold foils rather than pringled regular foils. And as much as Magic gets rightly hammered for card quality, Lorcana is the worst. I think the mistake they made was to make items and locations Enchanted. Maybe locations for the intro set for those, but the Characters is what people want in full art foil, the other stuff is just a feel bad for hitting a case hit.
@@michaelrudolph7003 idk man, been in Pokemon for 10+ years. Magic art is dog in comparison, and Lorcana enchanted patterns rival some of the best Pokemon modern chases. Art wise, has a bit to go, but Lorcana art, as far as Enchanted's are concerned, make magic art look bad.
