You guys make me miss NZ so much. As a Kiwi in England I have to say the lack of ingenuity and encouragement here is disheartening. People here love to tell you why you can’t do something whereas back home it’s such encouragement and “if you don’t do it, someone else will. So go for it!” And then I miss the ‘’magic carpet rides’’ and just general fun and good times that kiwis bring

I remember years ago,we had to deliver a 400KG photo copier to a rural address,an architect. We arrived at the driveway in our truck,it was winding down, had trees hanging down. I got out, went downthe driveway, it was only sealed halfway, couldn't take the truck down at all. I was met by the boss of the company, he said "Yeah, bring it down mate", i told him the situation, i looked around, saw an old Landrover,i asked him if it was still running. It was so i asked if he could drive it up to the road,we can lower the tailgate, ans roll the copier into the back of it.
He was super keen,so he drove up, we put a metal plate across, rolled it into the back, and he drove down while we walked . When we got tp the bottom, the boss guy asked us how we would take it down,it was quite high up, i looked around and saw a trailer, said "Can we use the trailer?, we can lower it onto the trailer, and then tip it and roll it down onto the metal plate, then wheel it into the office. The guy was really impressed, and rang my boss to tell him all about it,boss was like " I taught him everything he knows" , he was drunk obviously .

This brought back memories as a kid being dragged by a fisherman in a land rover dragging us along Moeraki beach on a tractor tyre. It made the Moeraki boulders much more memorable!😅 We've always had the number 8 wire mentality simply because of the isolation and time to get spare parts etc, make do and mend or wait three months for a part to arrive, its a no brainer really.

Thanks Liz & Brian, glad that I could brighten up you day and I will make sure Hugh gets to see what you have to say.
In our earlier efforts to re-screen this around the country, Hugh was able to attend the screenings and accept the accolades of the thousands who attended, however unfortunately his health has deteriorated to the point where he is no longer able to travel.
Although I was not involved in the production of the original film, I did play a role in the making of documentary "That was New Zealand", and as my company now has the distribution rights, one place we would love to bring this film to is New Plymouth.
That was to be about the next on our list along with Napier, until Covid bought things to a halt and it must be time to restart the screenings and we will see if we can find one of the few remaining members of the production team still around to come with us. From the front row!

    Hi L & B
I'm sitting here coffee in hand on a Sunday morning listening to your delightful voices. I have a slight hangover from staying up and laughing at all the freaks and nutters on Eurovision last night so your soothing and friendly tone is like a comforting blanket.
Just a quick note on the royals. I really enjoyed the coronation last week. Nobody does it like the British eh! I am in favour of a constitutional monarchy because I think a family has the nations best interests at heart in the long term. Indeed, most of the world's most liveable and successful countries are constitutional monarchies. Also, the thought of another tier of politicians fills me with dread!
I really hope the Kiwis and Aussies keep the monarchy and recognise the importance of history and tradition to a nations soul. I find the republican movement to be an entirely joyless and resentful bunch.
Anyway...that's my two cents worth! See you next week 😊

What’s funny and another cultural thing I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but as a Kiwi in England - I do! You Brits will always talk about a celebrity or sportsperson and just say their first name so we have no idea what you’re talking about. People here say “did you see Kim’s new boyfriend” and I’m like “Kim who?” And they say “Kardashian!” Or whomever and you just did it talking about Richie McCaw. We Kiwis call people by their full names, you Brits by only their first names. Really weird

I was never too impressed with the idea of becoming a leader by accident of birth, and then you put that against a free vote that gave the USA Trump and it seems not such a bad idea. I did watch some of it but by midnight needed my bed more :)
We had an exciting visit with the queen and prince phillip. My brother had had a huge fall and had both his arms in cast from the top to the wrist bent at the elbow. Both of them stopped to ask how he had done it and as his older sister I explained his fall from 18ft above a golf course on a rope swing. They were totally lovely and chatted to us for a good few minutes. I sometimes wonder if being in Hamilton made it easier to meet them than in the uk. :)
