I can understand people wanting to get off the plane quickly, but never understood why people want to be first to board. I'm the guy thats hangs about at the gate until theres no one left, then make my way aboard, i like to make the most of my freedom to stand and walk before I'm stuffed into a tube full of people.🤷♂️
So true! ...Except I'm with Bri who tells me that if we don't board there'll be no space left in the lockers... that the plane will leave without us... that there'll be no dinner left... or no wine...🤨🤪
Thank you, our dearest couple, for filling our days with so much laughter and joy every time we watch your vlog! 💖🥰We loooove your sense of humor - seriously, we can’t get enough.😜👍 We’re so glad you had a fantastic vacation, got some well-deserved rest, and made it back safe and sound to this beautiful country. Wooow… “a journey is a journey” - Brian, you’re a legend!🙉 The way you said it with such calm, poetic wisdom had us in stitches.😂😘 And of course, Liz, every "calm lake" needs a "bubbling river" to keep things interesting (same story here on our end 😂). You two are the perfect duo, always giving us the best laughs!💖 That travel story on your way back was something else! Seriously, why do airlines rush us when they know they still have to load the luggage? It's like a universal mystery🤔. You know, my old boss once told me, "The best vacation is the one where you sleep in your own bed." At the time, I couldn’t believe it and we laughed, but now, as the years go by… yep, there’s definitely some truth to that.🤔 Nothing beats the comfort of your own bed, right?😘 Sending lots of love to you both! Keep making us laugh!💖😘
"The best vacation is the one where you sleep in your own bed" Yep! That sounds good Renata (as long as I can still dream of my first class bed through the blue curtain...🤣🛌🛌 Love you both, thank you for joining us xx
Hi Liz and Brian, really enjoyed your travel drama and welcome back home to NZ. I have often wondered if its something about airports that is disorientating and no matter how sane one normally is things fall apart in unexpected ways. I fly every couple years to the UK , the first part of the journey being fresh and breezy goes like clockwork and after the first 12hr leg and change over for the next plane things tend to fall apart -its like the brain's gone on strike, arriving once at the north gate when it was the south and had to run for my life; thankfully only just in-time the next time i fell asleep in the waiting room and the 'stewardess' had a job waking me up to board, could not believe and was shocked and so embarrassed that everyone else had boarded ...i'm due to book the next trip and am filled with trepidation....
Oh....thank you for sharing this lovely and honest story. You are completely right, the first part goes like a dream and the second is often where it falls apart. Please try not to worry about your upcoming trip. You've got this, my friend. Could you perhaps set an alarm on your phone to go off an hour before boarding? This would take the worry away, I'm sure. Also befriending someone on the plane who is also on their own? That's what my mum did when she flew alone. Good luck and thank you again for sharing 🥰 Liz and Brian xx
We went to Norway in 2015. I was on crutches. Not one person let me out of my seat. Everyone just pushed by and we we ended up being last off. A staff member at the airport clocked me and took us through a couple of security doors into customs and took us right to the front. I limped by all of em!!!! “Taraaaaa D”@!heads” I thought 😂
What a crazy adventure. I haven’t had a dreadful experience at an airport thank goodness. But needed to fill in 5 or 6 hours as my father incorrectly read the flight time from London to Singapore. He was in a mood anyway so nothing was said. I spent the time seeing how many useful little items I could buy with all of our coins. I can’t remember what they were now but some were lollies and I think a magazine. Interesting experience. Your fish and chips and ginger beer sounds like a great welcome home.
Our best trip ever was to France. Our air nz flight broke down before we took off and the hour meant we would miss our connecting flight in sydney so they put us on a Cathay Pacific flight. It was amazing, the food was outstanding and my mum was in a wheel chair, we all got taken through any transfer and so on. So friendly were all the airport and flight staff to our mum and us. Even in france someone was there to meet us with a wheel chair. It was a treat. No queues anywhere.
Oh, that sounds fabulous, Anna! What a wonderful way to travel with your lovely mum, too. Don't you just love Air NZ!! They really are outstanding ❤️ Sending you much love, Liz and Brian xx
Wife and I just returned on Friday from a trip around the world. Went to Hilo Hawaii for waka ama world sprints. And then on to Europe ( France, Ireland, London) to see our daughter who lives in London. Went through some big Airports and some interesting things from different countries. In Honolulu Airport we were flying through San Francisco to Paris and security in Honolulu asked for a visa and also an address where we were staying in France. I told him NZers don't need visas for Europe and he actually checked. Interesting thing about that was the French in Paris just asked for my passport , stamped it and sent us through without any questions. Also San Francisco and Frankfurt on the way home don't do security while you're in transit. Must be a thing they do in Asia because we had a security check in Singapore on our way to Auckland. If people miss thier flights they take your luggage off the planes for security reasons. Something I noticed in London you may relate to is we were thier 6 days and I only saw one road cone. I knew we were back in NZ when we landed at Auckland Airport as we went past about 300 pf the bloody things just walking to the domestic terminal to catch our plane to Napier
Us Kiwis don't stand on ceremony very much. Perhaps planning connecting flights to allow for delays would be a good idea, embrace the suck of a longer layover rather than have a heart attack from stress about missing your connecting flight.
Liz and Brian, you always have such great tales to tell. 😁 I can never figure out why so many people have to be first off the plane. I've actually been pushed back into my seat by someone in a hurry to get past me. I'm also picturing the dash across the airport with the staff yelling Auckland, hurry hurry, run run! ☺ Isn't it always the way that you get rushed onto the plane and then sit for an hour before take-off. Not the most stress free way to end a holiday. Hope the rest of your trip was amazing and stress free! Welcome back to Kiwi land!
And you always leave us lovely comments, Susan, thank you! Thank you for your warm welcome, and yes...the fish and chips softened the blow and made us happy to return! 😆😁
I believe the modern term for cabin staff is "flight attendant". All those people who got up early would have caused a weigh imbalance. Properly distributed weight is essential for keeping the plane level and avoiding crashes. A plane is not a bus, and what they did was extremely dangerous.
Hi Liz and Brian. Good to hear that you enjoy your holiday. Brian in your previous video I suggested that you must use "glow in the dark"when you visit the massage parlour again. Did it work? Did the elderly lady stop giggling? 😮😮 Granny South Africa❤
Dear Granny south Africa, I did indeed use glow in the dark for my massage and I'm very happy I did so. It sparked a wonderful conversation with my masseur about New Zealand and the glow worms...🐛 Yours, Bri xx
Hi guys , enjoy your channel, I’m an Aussie on GC ( Goldcoast) we have a lot of kiwis here , I was only Aussie in my rugby team , I also been 30 years on building site , and on top of all that , married a kiwi , well a “Jaffa “ , haven’t heard that mentioned yet , also my family also has connections to sunny stockport uk , so I sorta relate to what you’re putting out there , but over half the colloquialisms you have mentioned are Aussie too , “ fair dink” yes we do say that , really! Apart from sweet as ( unfinished simile) but we know the lingo and it’s a kiwi thing , we have lots of poms and lots of kiwis , and victorians which seem more foreign because of that weird game Aussie rules , I watched a game once , but on a whole if you ever get here there are a bunch of cross comparisons, ok cheers guys btw I’m commenting on an older vid !
Liz, I am kiwi born and your videos would be totally different if you had moved and settled in a bigger place than where you are... If you had settled in Auckland and had ten plus years in Auckland you would have different opinion on NZ.. Your point of view is the same as any small county town...
Above all, airline and airport staff all around the world want to get you seated on-time If you have hold luggage onboard and you don't make it to your seat on time. Baggage handlers will have to search the hold for your luggage so it does not fly without you being on board. That is for security reasons. Sometimes booking connecting flights close together can be risky as there may be delays on the first sector . On-time departure also depends on passengers.
hi loved this also reminds me of coming to the Philippines from Auckland to singapore i flew premium and thing i had payed premium all the way no it was only to singapore i hated singapore as i got off the plane there was nothing to say where i had to go to get my conecting flight to manila if had not been for 2 kiwi ladies that where catching the same flight and told me we on this train i left akl at 1am arrived in dumaguete Philipping at 11pm our time so i had 3 flights in one day
I’ve visited NZ half a dozen times and it’s not a laid back place , Auckland is just a giant car park and the stress that goes with it ; if I had a choice it would always be a life on the South Island , Bluff would suit me. NZ has all the rules and more as they mirror the UK ; don’t get me started on the disproportionate wealth between the Expats and the indigenous people….
I'm an Aucklander (have lived here all my 40 years on this earth), and Aucklanders are way more stressed out than when I was a child. The cost of living here is insane, as is all the never-ending traffic jams. I visited Invercargill in August this year for a couple of days, and gosh, the people in Invercargill remind me of West Auckland when I was a child. The real Kiwi spirit, with people having time to chat, that has got squashed out with the various stresses of living here now. Housing was affordable here 25 years ago, even 10 years ago. Small town New Zealand is way more relaxed than in the bigger cities.
Guangzhou Airport is large. It's pronounced Gw-on-jo (Gwonjo quickly but that's the pronunciation). The Kiwis should have at least waited for the plane to get to taxiing speed: they were clearly onto it re their connecting flight. Good that the Chinese officials were racing you everywhere, even if it required two legs to be used as opposed to wheels. That's real kind of the Chinese man too: he must have felt bad for you. The younger generation isn't necessarily as stoic as the older generations (ie 50's plus). My wife is Chinese, so I rely on her to tell me where to go in China, as I have no idea how to read the signage. They do have lots of travelators in the Chinese airports, which can increase the moving speed by 50%, but that would have been quite the sprint-hike. In general: I do find it frustrating how passengers will typically all queue up to leave as soon as the plane becomes stationery. As an 'always economy flyer' myself, who is invariably close to the back of the plane, I find it rather amusing how the majority of passengers immediately get their stuff out of the lockers, and then line up, for what will be over five minutes of waiting for the remainder of the plane to depart. It does put a bit of pressure though, especially when travelling with young children, to get all your bags sorted and ensure no children disappear, whilst not delaying the clearly rushing queue more than would be determined an unnecessary waiting time for two adults and three young children to get all their stuff out of lockers and move together. The joys of travelling!
Don’t see the time to get out from uk ….i am sorry but i just had bad experiences in UK….recently racism! I do live in uk,have been living for 10 years and I got British citizenship.
Incredibly stupid thing to do. The plane hits a bump on the tarmac and someone goes flying headfirst into someone else's face fracturing their skulll? Over what? A plane that was going to wait for you anyway or put you on the next flight? They should have been dragged off by police and charged with reckless endangerment.

When you started talking about Kiwis rushing off the plane, i thought it was going to be like a Monty Python comedy.

Love you guys so much! Don’t worry about unreasonable people on your flight, no matter where they are from, hopefully not all kiwis are unreasonable!
Thank you, Jude, what a lovely comment. We appreciate you so much and wish you a happy week! 🥰

1999 Urumchi landing on AirChina. Plane half fill . All those seats with passengers stayed up right. Those without. The backs fell forward.
We always use park n fly for parking near the airport. You can pay online or when you arrive
