oh Liz, that spider.. good god, I was helpless with laughter when you kept adding all the details to the story. I love the way you recount all these incidents! Happy journey and hope you find contentment with whatever life brings.
Well I’ll be darned. We live just down the road from Nelson. It’s a lovely little city nestled into the mountainside, parked right on the lake. You will be skiing at Whitewater. I’m sure they have a four-wheel-drive vehicle as the drive up to White Water ski hill is thoroughly entertaining. The mountain used to be owned by Nelson couple who sold it but the new owners have definitely kept the wonderful feeling of an awesome ski hill in big mountains. By the way up at the hill, the food is wonderful. The prior owner , Shelley Adams was an amazing cook. She has published a series of cookbooks that you’ve got to get when you’re there. They’re called the Whitewater cookbooks and we eat from them all the time. In fact, we just gave one to a friend for Christmas. Unfortunately, we won’t be in our little town of Rossland for Christmas, it would’ve been really great to go out for coffee or have a rip at the ski hill together. Things have happened in our family that necessitate us to be close and that is a 25 hour drive to the east. I’m sure the NELSON family will have a lovely time. I hope they get to hike Taranaki. Where you two live is so beautiful. For a big adventure they could drive the lost highway. I loved it, my honey, not so much! Have a wonderful Christmas you guys !
Oh,Mike!! I was hoping you would be home and we could meet up! We will wait until you next come to NZ and have a drink under the mountain. Thank you for all the great back story of Nelson, you’ve made us super excited! I hope your family are safe and well. We send you all a big hug and a ton of kiwi gratitude ❤ Have a happy holiday season! Liz and Brian x
You had me worried that you were leaving NZ for good. I think Canada is a great place to go to. I have only been to Vancouver and I've never met any horrible Canadians. My mum passed away on Boxing Day 4 years ago followed by my dad 13 months later. Mum loved Christmas apart from the cooking part which is what I loved. I spent the last few Christmas days with my best friends family (we met 36 years ago at age 10). This year it's a bit different. I think I'm at the end of my fight to live. I've had 12 years longer than the two years my lifelong specialists gave me. I need surgery but the chance of me dying on the table is 85%. On the other side I am unable to eat anything unless it's in a liquid form and the one metre of intestine I have left (we have between 5 and 7 metres) has small veins wrapped around it that grew when my venous system was damaged when clots formed when I was fed through my veins. So the result of that is I'm about to go through months of wasting away until my body shuts down which I'm not looking forward to. When I was given two years to live my parents, my best friend Jo and her husband Peter sat down to go through my last wishes and what I wanted to happen after it happened. I never knew it but my Dad had written a little speech to say at my funeral. I found it after he passed away and it said 'if I have to explain Amy in one word it would be battler. She has pushed through what most couldn't and if I could have half of her strength I'd be happy'. Christmas will be at my best friends sisters home and I can hardly get out of bed to shower and her sister lives an hour away. I need to be closer to my hospital. I kind of want to just ignore Christmas this year. I have two puppies that I want to spend the day with anyway. Sorry that was all a little morbid but I'm okay, I'll fight this. I really believe that you will have a really lovely Christmas and I'm looking forward to your videos. Stay safe, I love you both. Xx
Amy, thank you so very much for sharing your story with us. Your strength and resilience are truly inspiring. To know that you chose to share your story with us is an honour and a privilege. If I could come and give you a big hug and sit beside you and chat, I would, but instead, please know that we are sending you a ton of love and positive energy during this difficult time. Your Dad certainly knew his girl. Stay strong, Amy. You are loved ❤️ Liz and Brian xxxx
Oh! And to you too, my lovely friend. We appreciate you so much, Anna, you have been a fabulous support to us, thank you. Have a wonderful holiday season and we look forward to brining you a Canada podcast! 🇨🇦☃️🥰 Liz and Brian xx
My mum was all about Christmas too.. 29years ago , Christmas Eve, her passed in her sleep. I haven't enjoyed Christmas since then... I hope you have a fantastic time in Canada.❤
We’re so sorry to hear that, Christine. It's so hard... Wishing you peace and comfort and know that we are grateful to have you with us ❤️ Liz and Brian x
Ohh thats too funny, we just came to NZ from Smithers, British Columbia, Canada! We do our Christmas in your country! You will love Nelson, its a beautiful small city but ranked very high in livability. Have fun from Waiheki Island.
I lived in Vancouver for 10 years, love it, and it's just so chrismassy.... I'm a kiwi and back in NZ... so not chrissmassy anymore! You're going to love it. Although Vancouver wasn't that snowy haha it's easy enough to find the snow and fast! Nelson is pretty bloomin remote!! you'll love it though. Please visit Vancouver even for a day on your way through I would think? I just love it. You'll love it. Enjoy.
My first Christmas in Canada was amazing and everyone went out of their way to make it so enjoyable. I ended up living over there for nearly 10 years. Enjoy your holiday, a bit of 'The Holiday' movie (2006) and just go with what happens. Can't wait for your catch ups. 🎄🎄🎄🥰🥰🎄🎄🎄 Merry Christmas.
Thank you so much for your lovely message, it means a lot to us! ❤️🎄 Merry Christmas to you, too. We can't wait to share our experience of Canada with you! 🇨🇦🇨🇦☃️☃️
BRI and LIZ both of you have to be the most brilliant podcasters out there, your insights and zest on everything is so wonderful, DUDES SPIDERS NEW PHONES UNDER GARMENTS hard case alright , safe travels merry Xmas to your whanau
Hey there; Sounds like a great plan. Not sure where you are staying in B.C. If you are in the Okanogan (Kelowna area), take the extra time to ski Sun Peaks, up north of Kamloops. It is a wonderful area for cruiser skiing, and the weather is generally better than other areas in Central B.C.. There is a reason Big White is named that - they get a lot of "white out" conditions when you can hardly see 10' in front. Sun Peaks normally has much better visibility. Also, make it a point to ski Revelstoke, now the greatest vertical in North America and still a small town. We will be at Whistler for Christmas with friends, but it is a bit of a madhouse now. We've been skiing there for over 50 years, and still know how to get around it.
Thank you for sharing, Hector! We can't wait to try it all out ⛷️⛷️Have a wonderful weekend my friend, thank you for being with us and we wish you a peaceful and happy December 🥰 Liz and Bri x PS: Enjoy Whistler!
🥶🥶 If we come back with our lips sealed together you'll know it was a success, Angelique 🤣 Have a wonderful weekend my friend, thank you for being with us and we wish you a peaceful and happy Christmas 🥰 Liz and Bri x
My mum passed away in August this year & since then, two friends have passed away. I can’t face Christmas this year, I will be alone anyway so will keep busy….always lots to do.
Oh, Michelle...it's so hard. Please know you are not alone. Sending you much peace and happiness, my friend. Thank you for always being with us, we appreciate you xx
I laughed so much at the story of Liz and the spider! I was in bed, in the middle of the night, and felt something on my cheek. Brushed it off but thought it was probably my hair. A couple of minutes later my husband said something was crawling on him and he brushed it off too. Or so we thought… I settled back down to sleep and had just nodded off when I felt something crawling up my inside thigh! You’ve never seen someone move, scream and leap out of that bed so fast! Turned on the light, pulled back the sheet and it was a huge cockroach! So traumatising! Anyway, have a great Christmas!
Oh Liz and Brian you make me laugh every time Liz is it so nice to hear you laughing real belly laughing I hope you all have a wonderful time in Canada making so many memories have the best time ever and I will be waiting for your podcast from Canada exciting times travel safe and come home refreshed and ready for the new year a very merry Christmas to you and a wonderful safe New Year 🌲♥️🙏
Thank you, Chris, that's so kind, we're so excited and can't wait to share with you! Happy Christmas, and thank you for being you, Chris...you are simply lovely xx🎄🇨🇦 Liz xx
The nicker story made me laugh until I cried! It's such a relief to hear that happened to someone else ( this time). It happened to me, too... similar circumstances.. but I was trailing toilet paper.. It was still attached to the roll... in the toilet cubical!.😂
Hahaha! I'm glad it made you giggle 😂 (wish my daughter felt the same...🤣) Have a wonderful weekend my friend, thank you for being with us and we wish you a peaceful and happy December 🥰 Liz and Bri x
Please do me a favour and leave a note for your family from Canada welcoming them to NZ from one of your viewers. I'm sure there are other Kiwis who want you to add their name to the note. Hope your white Christmas is one full of happy family times. Merry Christmas!
I moved to N E Thailand 4 years ago and love it. Love the food, the people and the freedom compared to NZ and so many places to see. You would too. I’m back in NZ for business now and hating it. Digital nomads are encouraged so something to think about.
Unlike Thailand. NZ has never had a military takeover of its Government. I would think. When it comes to freedom. That is reasonably high on the list. I live in NZ. And it is fascinating that you are back in the country for business reasons. But you hate it! So i guess, there is a good reason or advantage in being here at this point. Anyway, living in NZ. I can speak out. I can become politically active if i want to. And i am free to travel about as i please. And visit other countries, any time i want to. And yes. I can make money in NZ. And i can try a variety of food dishes from all over the world. So what exactly are these freedoms you speak of? That i don't have in NZ? And since i am free to go to Thailand. I can check out the reality for myself!! And when i look into things. I am diligent in what i do. Nomad Capitalists might be encouraged. But Nomad Capitalist, as in the TH-camr, is running a business. Which is based on promoting Thailand and other Asian countries, as places to relocate to! And selling his services, to assist people to do so! Since that is his business. Understandably, he is cultivating his customer base! It's not hard, to understand.
Reminds me of a meme "I call the big spider in my room 'Cotton Eye Joe' because there are 2 things I need to know: where did he come from and where did he go'" 😂 22:24
Sorry, I had to keep skipping ahead because it got drawn out too much. But, as I understand it, this is like that movie The Holiday? As a Kiwi who has traveled the world but never experienced a white Christmas, this is inspiring.
Only just touched base and thought you were relocating, All the best on your Christmas vacation. You've had a life changing year, hard to know what to say to you. All the best. Jingle bells Arohanui.
