The fact that you just went screw it and made your own slinky head is super funny and was also totally worth it since almost all the official figures look pretty bad
Yeah, I didn't realized that until I really went in and compare the toy to the movie stills, and that's when I knew it was hopeless to continue sanding.
I have one from the release of the original movie and it has the most sad, cross eyed, drunken expression and it has the string coming from center of his forehead
Tips for masking: don't use painters tape. That is designed for much thicker wall paint. Use dedicated hobby masking like Tamiya. It is more expensive but helps a LOT with thinner airbrush and hobby paint and can bend around corners without crumpling better. Also, really burnish the edges down with toothpicks and cotton buds.
@@zedabyu you could also look into liquid masking film. you brush that on what you want to mask and let it dry. then when done you just peel it off. its used a lot in water color painting
It's so weird to me. Toy Story is literally ABOUT TOYS, and it's also a CG movie. You'd think that not only with the whole selling point being the toys themselves, and the fact that they have movie quality 3D models, you'd think having screen-accurate toys would have been an extremely simple task, but apparently not. But hey, that's why we have you, to help fix these inaccuracies and give us the version we truly deserve.
Haha yes more work for me! Unfortunately the movie studios probably won't share their digital assets with toy manufacturers for free, so they'd have to make them from scratch with reference to concept art or what not. Even with special arrangements like for the Toy Story Collection line, they still couldn't get them right so... let's just say the people making the toys are not true fans of the movie and doesn't know what the fans really want.
Technically this is a case of the movie being inaccurate, as the Slinky Dog predates Toy Story by decades (and iirc the design used in Toy Story was introduced in the late 80s or early 90s).
@@cinnamonbun1379 no it isn’t, because this slinky toy made to imitate what’s seen in the Toy Story movie, it has nothing to do with the toy in the movie being inaccurate
@@juliet4093 The thing is... This one in particular is not the Toy Story toy, but the Slinky ® toy, which is the actual brand's name. The Slinky dog has different designs, the OG one being a toy from the late 40's - early 50's, and then with the years, they revamped the desing to the one is this video, which is the one the movie took inspiration from. Then Disney started making Slinky dogs (with the Pixar desing) with a license from Slinky. But the one in this video is not Disney's design, it's Slinky's, so that's why it's different.
man, now THAT looks like slink! It's so nice seeing him with leather looking ears, and his face looks so much more relaxed. Once you pointed out the terrible eyebrows I couldn't stop being bothered by them so it was a huge relief to see his natural brows back lol. The 3d scanner workflow was really interesting too, I like that you walked through your problem solving strategy for us and showed why it was important to have the actual size thing as a reference for the new one, it was cool!
I'm loving the efort in this video. But for Slinky and Mr. Potato head the toys are not supposed to look like the movie counterparts, it's the other way around, the movie characters are supposed to look like the toy counterparts.
So for Slinky's Legs. What I would recommend doing if you need them articulated is to sand down the cube part of the leg. I had to do the same part on my Buzz Lightyear arms. The Cube shape thats on the legs just basically dremel it or cut and sand it till its more round like a cylinder. It should help with articulation and make em easier to move properly. If they become too loose. Add abit of hot glue to work as friction to the edges. Hope this helps! Excellent custom man!
You are revolutionary in all you do. Love your work! I hope to someday do the same things with Cars diecasts because I'm not sure if you are aware, but they are extremely inaccurate to the movie. I admire the Toy Story community so much for caring about accuracy because the Cars community needs to do that more. Why must toy makers put no effort into their own products?! At least it leaves room for us customizers to leave our own little legacy in doing what toy companies can't. Keep it up!
Thank you! I guess it's not worth the trouble making toys meant for kids that would be destroyed ultimately, so it's better to make them durable than accurate.

Interestingly, that was one of the alternate storyline in Toy Story 4 when Buzz was stuck at the carnival. Instead of cheap carnival toys, they wanted to explore various Lightyear knock-offs! I would have loved that so much but oh wells.
You are really good when making movie accurate stuff but I wish you could put a little more polish or whatever it's called to make it more shiny it should be more shiny like your Jessie it should be more shiny🤔

Slinky is one of my favorites growing up. It's probably because we used to have a dog that looks like him.
Welcome back! Glad you're recovered. The custom head turned out really well, imo.
Took it from trash to collectable.
Getting rid of those hideous plastic lines improved Slinky soooooooo much.
I like your toys how you make them look more like the movie them they already did and they’re pretty cool how they look now
Slinky dog is MY FAVOURITE toy story character!!!!!
Perfect custom.
and you can make hamm bank for print?

Another thing that you should add to slinky dog is adding a better slink so it can stretch more further that the original

Even with the mistakes it looks better
Fun fact: Slinky in the movie is made of wood, unlike the real life toy which is made of plastic.
So you could of just 3d print everything and got a slinky 😂
Yep
the string in the spring parts of the toy is so that it would keep its shape and prevent it from being over stretched
