    Must be the 10th youtube channel I've seen trying to made RDFs shoot still haven't seen anyone be successful. Thanks for trying 😅

      Like the 10th time on this channel I have tried to get them to shoot well. Disappointed each time.

    Thank you. Appreciate you featuring this new StaBall powder. I for one really want it to be a solid success. U.S.A. Temp stable powders for all calibers is very good and important to many of us.

      The powder seems solid so far. The sd and es have been a little higher than I would like, however they are much better than the other ball powders I have used.

      @@RobsReloading If interested, I would be interested in your opinion and data comparing it with Varget and maybe H4895. I would think that would be quite helpful for we subs & should draw other views & viewers. Coming from your experience it would carry a lot of weight. Thank you for considering it.

    I have the same gun. I bought it because of your videos. Mine throws about 12 inches consistently unless I get my hand in the way.

    • @RobsReloading

      Mine seems to have worsened as the rifle has more rounds on it. I guess they make a kit to improve extraction/ejection I should probably get.

    Interesting. I have a Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor. It shoots < 0.5 MOA 5-shot groups with Hornady Match 140 grain and right around 0.5 MOA with 147 grain Hornady Match (for 5-shot groups). Last weekend I tried testing various powder charges with Nolser RDF 140 grain bullets. The powder was the regular StaBall. Man, were the groups ever disappointing. My average group size was 0.94 MOA for 5-shot groups (0.83, 0.45, 0.77, 1.12, 1.34, and 1.10 MOA groups in order of increasing charge weight). I'm going to load to the powder weight that gave the smallest group (0.45 MOA) and try to tune with my EC Tuner this weekend. The RDFs were really erratic. I'd have 3 or 4 rounds touching and one or two "flyers" way out of the group. I think the 0.45 MOA group was just a fluke where I didn't have any "flyers". Anyway, I guess I can't condemn them yet but it's not looking good.

    The 85g RDF in my 224 Valkyrie AR shoots 1/2 MOA and better. The 107g Custom Comp in my 6 SPC is similarly accurate. Both using CFE 223.

    Is the bolthead on that rifle correct size? You really need to look into it more, extract slower.
    If the bolt head is to large it will slip off, but given it is the correct size it should never let go before its out of the chamber.
    but as the rounds are not stuck in the chamber I think it drops the round when it goes out of the bore. so it might be the case starts getting in a angle to the boltface and drops.

    Disappointed in the EC tuner in this case. Not much difference between positions

  • @YERAFirearms
    @YERAFirearms ปีที่แล้ว

    Your tuner node is between 4-6,
    Note that the group vertical pattern is perfectly oscillating from high to low. The tuner is not decreasing group size, which expected and normal.
    The node for this type of "testing" is turf or peak of the sine wave of the center of the groups.
    First, do not use RDF, I never liked them for precision work.
    Try again with Berger or SMK, or DTAC
    To decrease group size, seating depth is the most important tuning factor after selecting the top match bullets

    The problem with Savages and very short cases is that the casing swings to the right as it is withdrawn. The left side of the head of the cartridge rises above the bolt recess and that allows the case head to shift to the left just enough to allow the rim to slide out from under the extractor. The case then falls into the action instead of being thrown out. Measure your brass rim diameters and the bolt face diameter. Your are going to most likely find the diameter differences are going to be about .008". You did not mention the brass brand, but some brands have a larger diameter rim diameter, and will eject better.

    • @RobsReloading
      @RobsReloading  ปีที่แล้ว

      Brass is Hornady brass. Your description of what is happening matches my experience. Did not no this was why however.

    • @ewathoughts8476
      @ewathoughts8476 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobsReloading You can sometimes replace the extractor ball with a .140" one (under the extractor on top of the spring. That may push the extractor a bit towards the center of the bolt face and may help. Savage long action design pressed into service on short actions means there is a greater angle developed as the cartridge case springs to the right. Sometimes you can find a stainless steel extractor that has a sharper edge under the nose and that will help. Until you find the parts just remove the ejector and the case will stay in the bolt face and you can easily pick the case out as part of the action cycling. A lot of those sliding extractor type push feed bolts have this problem. When you get the RDF to work, you may be the first. It also helps if the contact edge of the extractor is very sharp, helps prevent slipping.

    I have a savage 110 switchback in 6mm I just acquired. Can you tell me if you had any issues with the bottom bolt release when you put it in the chassis system? I have looked at some other chassis also and they specify that this model with the bottom bolt release will not fit in their offering for the savage 110. I would appreciate any info you could give to me on this matter.

      The mdt chassis I have on mine works fine with bottom bolt release. It has a cut out that I use a little Allen to activate the bottom bolt release. Not sure about other chassis.

    I thought I'd run this by you: Stabal Match is new. I watched 3 of your videos on 6ARC, 6GT, and 6..5 CM. Although you had one 0.11" group with the 6.5CM, basically your comments were not overly positive for either session. Different cartridges, different bullets, different bullet makers, but the same Match powder. Could it be the Match?

    • @RobsReloading
      @RobsReloading  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that so far the powder has not jumped out at me as an amazing powder or Varget substitute. However being a ball powder I have been somewhat impressed. I almost never use ball powders as I have never been happy with performance.

  • @robpederson281

    You need to work on powder charge and seating depth. Rdf are similar to Berger in my experience. Like to b tighter to lands. Shot many 2" groups at 600 out of several diff rifles with the nosler. It's your load. The tuner will tighten up a good load but not fix a bad load
